Another story! I have come to bless my readers with a baby Luffy fanfiction. All of my baby Luffy fics are the highest read stories on and ao3. It's been too long! While this is *technically an au, it is all One Piece characters and I only made it an au because I didn't feel like world building and was just going for fluff galore. All you need to know for this is that the super powers are called quirks and some people like to be heroes. That's pretty much it. Enjoy~!
Luffy was playing with Paul when the next adopter man came in. He hoped he had a family soon. All the other little boys and girls were going, and he wanted to have a house, too. And he wanted a kitty, but first he had to find a mama or papa! That's what Miss Olivia said they were playing for. To find a nice home. And Luffy definitely wanted a kitty!
He was serving tea to his imaginary friend. He was purple with googly eyes. He was distracted from the man looking to adopt, entrapped with his conversation with his imaginary friend. There was nothing in the cup, but it had imaginary tea in it, so it made sense that an imaginary friend would drink imaginary tea. Of course that made sense!
The man walked to Luffy and sat down. He asked if he could have some tea, too. Luffy finally looked up, and saw the guy was very tall! And he looked like a grumpy grump, but still had a smile and cool purple hair. Luffy looked to Paul, and said, "Once Paul is done with his tea, you can have his cup," brightly.
"Is Paul your friend?"
"Yeah! I named him Paul because I thought to name him Paul, and it's a good name," Luffy said proudly. Once Paul was done with his drink, Luffy gave the tea cup to the grumpy grump. "I'm Luffy. I'll call you grumpy grump, 'kay?"
"That's fine. But I'm not actually grumpy, my face just looks like that sometimes," grumpy grump said reasonably, and took a sip of the imaginary tea. Paul looked affronted. He told him that sharing was important, and it was grumpy grump's turn for the tea. "I could give it back to Paul. I had water on my way here, so I'm not too thirsty."
Luffy shook his head. "Paul is bad at sharing, so I gotta teach him because Miss Olivia said sharing is caring, and I like that. Shishishi, it rhymes," Luffy giggled. Grumpy grump smiled, and took another sip of his tea. They had a small tea party, and ate the crumpets that didn't exist. But grumpy grump even made crunchy noises when he "ate" it. Luffy liked him!
He played with him, and after the tea got cold and all the food was eaten, he walked away to get his stuffed giraffe. "Look! This is Paul 2. She's a giraffe," Luffy said proudly. Grumpy grump smiled, and said Paul was definitely a good name and deserved to be used by two of his friends. "Shishishi, Paul gets jealous sometimes! But I'm teaching him not to be jealous. You should always be happy!" Luffy exclaimed arms wide. Grumpy grump agreed. Being happy was a great feeling.
"And being around happy people is also nice, too. Like a warm feeling," grumpy grump replied. Luffy beamed again and nodded. He liked being with happy people. Grumpy grump eventually had to leave once dinner came around. And even though Luffy ate all sorts of sweets during their tea party, he was hungry.
The very tall man stood high above Luffy. "Come see me again, okay? If you adopt me! Then we have to have a kitty, okay?" Luffy said with wide eyes. Grumpy grump smiled, and said he already had a kitty. "Is his name Paul, too?"
"I'll tell you next time."
"Deal! Bye bye!" Grumpy grump waved back, a smile on his face of what he could see. He was wearing a fluffy scarf, so Luffy only saw the smile in his eyes, which was easy to see of course. A person's whole face changed when they smiled a real smile! Luffy turned to Paul and praised him for sharing.
Then he hurried to the dining room for dinner, all of the foster children hurrying to wash their hands and get ready for food, too. Luffy washed his little hands, but forgot to dry them and dripped water all over. "Luffy, remember to dry your hands. No, don't use your hair. A towel would be best, but your clothes would be easier to use than hair."
"Shishishi!" Luffy giggled. "I hope I see grumpy grump again soon!"
"He said he'll be back tomorrow. You can see him then," Miss Olivia said, setting the table while the kids passed the silver ware around with the napkins. Miss Olivia served the kids so they didn't make a mess, and the noisy but cheery meal started. Luffy liked happy people! And he wondered all night what the cat's name was if it wasn't also Paul.

"This is your new room," papa said, Luffy sitting on his shoulders as he was shown around his new home. Karina, the kitty, was following them around curiously. She seemed nice so far! Luffy was so happy he was adopted and now had a family. But his name wasn't grumpy grump anymore, it's papa. He didn't know his actual name yet. Well, his name was papa. He was being silly.
Luffy got off his shoulders and bustled around the room, looking in the drawers and under the bed. "No monsters, right?"
"No monsters. Promise. There's a little blanket over there that Paul can use if he needs it," papa said kindly. Luffy beamed and nodded, and then put his clothes away. Shoving them into the drawer in wads. Karina came up to him, and Luffy hugged her tightly. She didn't complain, fine with this. She was squishy.
Luffy asked if she had slime in her. "Because she's squishy."
Katakuri shook his head. "She's just getting older and flabby," he answered, and sat down, so happy, it seemed, to have Luffy. Luffy was the only little kid there. It was a big house with lots of places to hide. All the doors were child proofed, so he wouldn't slam his tiny fingers. And the front door had a taller lock so he couldn't reach it.
He was allowed to explore the house, zooming into each room and down the hallway. Katakuri sat on the couch, and listened to him talk about everything he saw. He was quite the energetic four year old. The new father already knew how to deal with Luffy. He had his college degree in child care, having wanted to be a therapist for children.
Unlike his friend, who left hero school and actually became a hero, Katakuri's career was not what he went through high school for. Dragon had started his own family, but they were blood family with his wife. Katakuri chose to adopt, as he was single but really wanted a little one to raise. Maybe Luffy could be friends with Dragon's youngest at the time.
He knew their parenting styles were day and night, but he was still his friend. Probably his only friend. Luffy was still talking, and showing Paul around the house while holding Paul 2 to his chest. Katakuri just listened with a smile on. Keeping track of the kid while giving him space to explore.
He knew from the visits so far that Luffy liked to get his little hands in everything, and unintentionally cause messes. So he proofed everything that needed to be kept separate, and left certain drawers or bins out that had pillows and blankets, so pulling them out wouldn't cause a big mess and also wouldn't have the chance to hurt the four year old.
And Luffy did pull a blanket out halfway and then zoomed down the hall because he wanted to play with Karina. The now father smiled and didn't put the blanket away. He had a feeling Luffy would return to it suddenly, so he left it out. He came zooming into the living room again and asked for tea.
"Real tea?"
"You're silly! Shishishi, my tea just tastes like air. I want flavor tea, please," he said politely, holding Paul 2, before he stuffed it into his shirt so he didn't need to use both hands to pull her around. Paul 2 was a girl Giraffe while Paul was a boy. A purple boy with googly eyes and a tail that dragged very long, and so Luffy had Katakuri be careful to not step on it.
They had tea, Luffy's tea being iced, but in the plastic tea cup. Despite his seemingly scatterbrained personality and hyperness, he drank the tea and didn't spill any of it. He lifted his pinky finger, and said, "Did you know that expensive people drink like this?"
"I did know that. How did you know?" Katakuri asked in interest.
"I saw it on the TV. A princess had her finger up, too. So that means all expensive people do it, right?" Katakuri agreed. Why argue with this? Luffy was very energetic, but didn't make any messes but with the blanket. But by the end of the day, his various toys were strewn about the house.
Katakri would try and teach him to put his toys in specific places the next day. He could just relax and go anywhere he wanted today. He was already comfortable with the house, having inspected every nook and cranny. Uner all three beds, behind the doors. He looked in the sink and bathtub drains, too. So far, Katakuri was very happy he chose Luffy. He was cheerful, even more than he would expect any child his age. Developing quickly but still very undeveloped. Katakuri would use his knowledge about children to raise Luffy as well as he possibly could. With lots of love and affection.
Because he loved this child already. As he babbled at dinner, Katakuri felt he chose the right one, and was lucky he went to where he did when he did. Luffy had been there for two months already, and he could only assume he was too cheerful for others. Because he had no idea how he went two whole months without being adopted.
His parents died in a car wreck, so Luffy had never met them. He'd been with his grandparents before they passed away recently. All of his known family had died. Katakuri had many siblings, so Luffy definitely wouldn't ever be left all alone. When bed time came, Luffy put his toys in places he chose were their homes. So he did clean up a bit, but the places were not the greatest.
One pile of toys had their home being in front of the front door. Well, if Katakuri put them in a basket, it could be easily moved aside. He was pleased to see Luffy brush his teeth on his own, and then tuck himself in. But Katakuri made sure to be in there when he went to sleep. "Godnight, I'll wake you tomorrow."
"Can we have waffles?" Luffy asked sleepily.
"I'll do what I can," Katakuri replied. Luffy smiled and snuggled under the covers. Katakuri turned the night light on and closed the door until there was only a crack open. He went to the kitchen and took his phone, calling his nearest brother. "Oven, can you go to the store and get me some waffle mix?"
"Now?"
"Luffy wants waffles for the first breakfast," Katakuri replied. Oven didn't hesitate, and went and got the ingredients. He wanted to see Luffy really bad, his first nephew, but the boy was sleeping already. But Katakuri showed him a video of Luffy exploring the living room, finding the little easter eggs Katakuri had planted.
Different color ribbons in between couch cushions, behind the grate for the electric foire place. Just to get him exploring his surroundings and being excited while doing so. Oven thought he was adorable, but seemed like a handful. "And I have to deal with Paul's bad behavior. His imaginary friend." Oven snorted.
Katakuri knew he and Daifuku would be great uncles. They both weren't interested in having kids, but an extended family would be just fine. Didn't have to raise him, but got to be around a kid that was part of their big family. They had no contact with their mother since junior high after she went to jail, but there were a lot of siblings, ten of them, and so they were never lonely.
None of them were fond of or attached to their mother, so not living with her or seeing her anymore was not a big deal. It was welcome, actually. Katakuri put the waffle mix in the kitchen, and then started to read after Oven left. He wanted to see Luffy as soon as he was adjusted.
In the morning, Luffy was wearing his sweater even though it was July and not cold in the house, and was confused when the waffles were put down in front of him. "But… these aren't circles," he said, and picked at the waffle with his fork. Katakuri was confused. "They go in the toaster." Oh, the ones that came in a box!
"Oh, these are real waffles. The ones from the box are frozen ones. Just try out these and see if you like them."
"They're square," Luffy stated.
"They are." He didn't hesitate to eat, so it seemed their shape wasn't an issue, it was just a fact that he stated. He watched as Luffy's face lit up. "I put in a special ingredient. Can you tell what it is?"
"Orange juice!"
"That's right. I'm impressed you could tell," Katakuri praised, getting his own serving and sitting across from Luffy on his booster seat on the dining chair. Luffy poured the little cup of syrup on his waffle and ate it messily. Well, he'd wash his hands afterwards. The man wasn't going to raise Luffy on sugary foods, so there was only a finite amount of syrup he was given. He had plenty of fruit for sweet treats for the boy.
"Did you know that oranges are cistuses?" Katakuri asked if he meant citrus. "No, cistuses. Like lemons and tangerines!" Luffy replied. Katakuri said he'd never heard of a cistus. It was true, since it wasn't a real word. But Luffy of course didn't catch on, and just rambled about his favorite cistus. He sure had a lot to talk about.

"Are all of you tall?" Luffy asked, looking at Oven and Daifuku, his new uncles. He had ten aunts and uncles, so lots of friends/family to have! Papa said most of the family was very tall. "Will I be tall, too?!" Luffy asked excitedly. Oven said they didn't know. "Why?"
"You're a surprise kid. We'll have to wait and see what happens!" They didn't point out that Luffy wasn't a blood relative, he was adopted and didn't share any genes to make him very tall. He could still grow to be tall, of course, but it wouldn't be from being related to Katakuri and his family. Though it was fine, and nobody in the family thought bad of him adopting.
Luffy cheered, and zoomed away to fetch his imaginary friend. Daifuku thought it was cute, but didn't smile. He always had resting bitch face. Well, Katakuri always had, too, before he became a counselor for kids. Then he couldn't look angry or grumpy at all times. But he couldn't help it sometimes.
"This is Paul. He's my friend." Oven played along and greeted Luffy's imaginary friend. Katakuri wondered when the boy would grow out of it, and how it would happen. Sometimes growing out of your imaginary friend could be frightening. And he seemed to be close with his fiend that only existed for him. Well, they'd see.
Luffy played with his uncles outside in the big backyard, both of them tossing him back and forth, since they were tall and strong. He squealed, having a lot of fun, and Katakuri trusted them both to not drop him. All of his siblings had different parents, so they all had different, unrelated quirks. All had inherited their quirks from their fathers.
Oven could control his body temperature to get very hot. Daifuku could summon a genie. Katakuri's quirk was rarely used, as it had no real practical use but for making tools with the mochi after it was hardened. He didn't eat it or give treats to others. Even when the children wanted sweets, he gave them strawberries with sugar sprinkled on them, against feeding little kids unhealthy foods.
Eventually, Luffy got tired and said he wanted a nap. He hurried to Katakuri and lifted his arms to be picked up. The moment he was in his papa's grasp, he fell asleep, thumb in his mouth. The man brought him to his room and tucked him in. He closed the door most of the way, and then went to the living room, where Oven and Daikfuku were talking about their new nephew.
Not long later, he heard Luffy crying from his room. Katakuri hurried over, assuming he had a bad dream. But when he went in, Luffy cried that he peed himself. The man hadn't heard of Luffy wetting the bed by the foster mother, but he wasn't angry. "It's okay, it wasn't on purpose," Katakuri soothed.
He brought Luffy to the bathroom and rinsed him off before giving him a change of underwear. His brothers took care of putting the sheets in the washing machine. Daifuku replaced the sheets with another set. When Luffy came out, he was embarrassed, but Katakuri didn't do anything to make it worse.
"Have you wet the bed before?" the father asked lightly. Luffy nodded, but said it wasn't often. "Don't worry, you'll grow out of it. But when you go to sleep, maybe we should get some pullups," he explained. Luffy cocked his head, and Katakuri said they were big boy undies that made it so pee didn't soak the bed or clothes.
"I'll do those!" Luffy said, nodding vehemently. Katakuri smiled, and Luffy didn't go back to bed, he colored in his coloring book on the living room carpet. Oven and Daifuku didn't show an ounce of judgement over the boy's predicament. Pudding had wet the bed until she was six, but she was mocked and abused by it from their mom before she went to jail. Katakuri would not follow in her footsteps for how to care for Luffy's issue.
It wasn't like wetting the bed at his age was super rare. Many kids did that, and it was fine, there was no reason to look down on him for something common and currently out of his control. Oven and Daifuku left for dinner after Daifuku left to get some pullups, and Luffy happily ate his pasta, moved on from his wetting the bed incident. For bed, Katakuri helped Luffy into the pull ups. He didn't like wearing a diaper at first before the father explained that a lot of little boys and girls did this. It wasn't wrong or abnormal. Luffy felt better about it after hearing that, but didn't pee during the night again.
In the morning, he declared it at breakfast, like it was quite the feat. Katakuri congratulated him, and Luffy beamed for a long time, proud of himself.

"I want that one," Luffy said, walking next to Katakuri in the clothes store. Luffy was getting a new wardrobe. He was on a leash right now, with the harness wrapped around his chest and back. Katakuri just knew he'd run off if he got even a moment's chance. So he was making sure he wouldn't get away.
The boy had picked out only red shirts so far, since it was his favorite color. Different shades, but still always red. He liked exploring the section that was for mutant quirks. Some with more sleeves, others that were sized large. Some more that had spaces where any horns could come out. A removable spine for kids who had spikes, since they were common.
Luffy was interested in it all, and wondered what his quirk would be. "Whatever it is, you'll still be a good boy." Luffy beamed and nodded, putting a hat on with space for any head mutations. Luffy was obsessed with the concept of being a "big boy", but could not tell Katakuri what traits made that decision.
He picked out another red shirt, all the same size for him. He was small for his age, so the sizes of his clothes were all smalls or extra smalls. His feet were even tinier, so he had the smallest size as well. "I want food quirk, too! Then I could eat when I want'a!" Luffy said brightly, choosing some rain boots even if it wasn't a rainy season.
Katakuri wasn't poor, he was well off and could afford this easily. His job paid well, though he was on paid leave for now. His employer let him have this time. She knew all about child development too, and Luffy needed some bonding and trust time. He already opened up completely to Katakuri and stuck to him like glue when he wasn't randomly distracted. It was nice, and he was glad he chose to adopt a young child. The man pointed out that he couldn't eat his own mochi.
"Then my quirk will be even better!" Luffy declared. "I'm done shopping!" he suddenly announced, so they went and paid for his new wardrobe, a ton of red shirts, three pairs of shoes, and many shorts. He liked the straw flip flops the most, so he put those on once they were finished paying, and went back to the car.
Katakuri clipped him into his car seat and put on Christmas music, since it seemed he loved Chrstmas time. He even got Christmas lights strung along his bedroom walls, which he put on when he was coloring inside, or looking at picture books. Katakuri usually never used the electric fireplace, but Luffy loved it, so he kept it on in the living room.
He'd made plenty of adjustments for the boy, but none were a very big deal. And he didn't make messes and also wasn't demanding about things. He was polite, even if it seemed he didn't actively try to be.
They got a smoothie from the smoothie place, which replaced ice cream for the boy. He didn't complain about wanting sweets because Olivia had not given the children unhealthy food, which was good for Katakuri. He didn't need to teach Luffy to not eat sugar as if he were accustomed to it.
When they got home, Luffy folded his clothes as best as he could and organized his clothes in the dresser colors. The red drawer was his shirts, the blue was his shorts and so on. The jacket and bathroom robe were hung in the closet. He still had all his other clothes, but now he had more that he picked out himself. A simple boy, who only wanted red tank tops or short sleeved shirts and shorts.
He liked his flip flops so much that he wore them around the house for the rest of the day. He ate his home dried apple chips at the table for a snack and kept looking at his feet under the table, enthralled by his flip flops. It was so adorable. But Katakuri told him not to sleep in them, and Luffy instead put his extremely fluffy socks on his tiny feet.
He was wearing the pullups, which weren't uncomfortable, thankfully. The boy was grateful for them, and didn't see them as diapers. He was fine wearing them because he was happy his "pee wouldn't soak the bed". Katakuri put the forest noises on, and Luffy was out like a light before he even closed the bedroom door.
Katakuri went around the house and fixed the messes. Small messes. Moving his basket of toys to a safer place to not be stepped on. Putting the pillows back on the couch and wiping down the table. He spilled a bit of juice on it earlier, but hadn't noticed. He liked keeping the house as clean as possible. And it was nice Luffy wasn't messy, too.
But the father did make sure to keep markers and crayons out of sight when Luffy wasn't using them and he knew it. Luffy had expressed interest in the walls as a big whiteboard. So he had to be careful to make sure Luffy didn't use the walls as a canvas.
This story is so fluffy it might rot some teeth. Hope you stick around for the next chapter!
