Littlepaw
Littlepaw hurried to keep up with his brothers feeling excited. Today they were on their way to the gathering to be sorted into their new clan. If he got into a different one there would be no more Brokenstar. If he didn't and stayed in Shadowclan...well…
He tried not to think of that as they reached the clearing of Four Trees. Brokenstar sat in front of the rock that the leaders addressed the clans on. His yellow gaze swept over his warriors milling around and Littlepaw shivered as they landed on him. Blue eyes met yellow. The apprentice quickly looked away and joined his brothers who were running around in excitement.
"Isn't this great, Littlepaw?" His younger brother, Brownpaw asked as he tackled their oldest brother Wetpaw.
"Yeah, I can't wait to see what clan I'll be in!" Wetpaw exclaimed. It was a tradition. You were born into whatever clan your mother was in and when you became an apprentice you had to go to the next gathering to be sorted. If there were no apprentices then it would just be a normal gathering.
"I really hope we're all in the same clan," Brownpaw said worriedly. "If we're not we'll be enemies and we'll have to fight each other!"
Littlepaw licked his brother's ear. "Don't worry, even if we're in different clans we'll always be brothers."
Just then Windclan arrived with Tallstar carrying the patched old sorting hat in his mouth. He was the one who led the ceremony. Windclan currently didn't have any apprentices so it'd be good for them if they got one from another clan.
Tallstar set the hat down near Brokenstar and sat behind it. Windclan spread out and started talking with Shadowclan.
Littlepaw felt nervousness rise in his chest. Soon he'd be sorted into his clan and his new destiny would begin.
Graypaw
"Do you think I'll stay in Thunderclan?" Graypaw asked his mother nervously. Before she could reply Graypaw's half brother Darkstripe walked by hissing, "I hope not!"
Graypaw glared after him and his mother said soothingly, "I'm sure you will and even if you don't stay, I'll always love you!"
"Even if I'm in Shadowclan?" Graypaw asked, having heard the rumors of how evil Shadowclan was.
"Even Shadowclan!" She confirmed, pressing her muzzle to his head. They had just reached the rim of the hollow leading down into Four Trees.
Bluestar's gaze swept her clan and she stopped to give each of her apprentices an encouraging look, making Graypaw feel a little less nervous.
"Ready for this?" Graypaw looked up to see his best friend, Firepaw with Ravenpaw by his side. "Yeah, of course I am!" Graypaw said and was glad his voice didn't tremble.
Bluestar gave the signal and as one the clan leapt down into the hollow and ran into the clearing.
Ravenpaw
Ravenpaw had one good reason to leave Thunderclan and one bad. The good thing was the fact that he might never see Tigerclaw again and he sure didn't give a dung. The other part was that he'd leave his friends and family behind though his parents were in Starclan. But he still had his friends and he'd have to turn against them one day if he left Thunderclan.
"It is time for the sorting to begin!" Tallstar announced and the clans gathered as one crowd, excitedly near the hat. Being the eldest leader, Tallstar was in charge of the sorting where he called them up one by one and put the hat on their head.
"Littlepaw!"
Ravenpaw watched as the nervous young tom, who still looked like a kit, padded towards the hat and Tallstar placed it on his small head as he sat down.
It covered the Shadowclan tom's eyes and Ravenpaw waited silently with everyone else before the hat bellowed, "WINDCLAN!"
Windclan cheered and Littlepaw, looking both nervous and relieved, scampered over to them.
"Graypaw!"
"RIVERCLAN!"
The cats who loved water cheered and Graypaw walked over to them, not before casting his mother a nervous glance, who Ravenpaw noticed, nodded at her son encouragingly.
"Ravenpaw!"
Ravenpaw almost fainted in shock and fear but managed to walk with trembling legs over to the hat.
"Hmm, well to be honest there is not a single thing with bravery in you but no cunning either," the hat said in his head. "So not Thunderclan or Shadowclan."
A part of Ravenpaw felt a pang of sadness because one, Firepaw might be stuck with Sandpaw and Dustpaw, and two his family lived in Thunderclan, but a part of him was happy because one, no more Tigerclaw, and two he wouldn't be in Shadowclan.
"You would do well in Windclan maybe...but I think you need the best for your destiny so better be…"
"RIVERCLAN!" He bellowed out for the crowd to hear.
As the hat was lifted from his head, Ravenpaw felt relief as he padded over to the fish-smelling cats. He caught Bluestar's gaze which looked warm and felt more confident as he sat by Graypaw who looked equally relieved he'd have someone he knew with him.
"Wetpaw!"
The gray Shadowclan apprentice was sorted into Riverclan as well and sat nervously next to Ravenpaw who gave him an encouraging blink as he caught his eyes.
Then Sandpaw was to stay in Thunderclan along with Firepaw, both looked pleased and were soon joined by Brownpaw who also looked pleased with his new clan.
Finally it was just Ravenpaw's brother, Dustpaw left. He strutted confidently up to Tallstar and the hat and after a moment he was sorted into…
"SHADOWCLAN!"
The cats of Shadowclan cheered but Dustpaw looked bewildered as he slowly walked over to the dark, smelly cats.
"Wow, I feel bad for him! He's in for a rough time!" Wetpaw commented beside Ravenpaw and the black tom couldn't agree more.
Dustpaw was casting Sandpaw forlorn looks but the ginger apprentice had her back to him, chatting animatedly to Firepaw and Brownpaw.
Ravenpaw was sure his brother's yellow gaze flashed with jealousy and anger but he wasn't sure.
"The clans dispersed afterwards with their new clanmates and Ravenpaw, not sorry at all to be leaving cats like Tigerclaw behind, walked after Graypaw and Wetpaw towards his new home for the rest of his life.
