Hello, my viewers. This is a one-shot advent calendar of many genres which I suppose you could technically call it a crossover of sorts. This is inspired by Youtube and Deviantart, and here on Fanfiction as well. I figure that since it's the month of miracles and gifts, festive babies of different species would count for a gift/miracle to the parents everywhere.
I mean, we all hear and see stories of babies being born in December, especially when on Christmas or Christmas Eve. So, this story is the second related-Christmas story here. This chapter starts on Day 1 of December, though I am mighty late, but better than never, right? So, Merry Christmas to all! -Traveler.
P.S. A bit of bad news on the side. I cannot do fanart anymore for the recent stories including this one for Google Chrome doesn't employ Flash Player or Abode Flash anymore which both upset and devasted me. But I'd be very happy for all of you to remain using your imagination 100% for those stories.
-December 1, 1891-
It has been over two years since the grand adventure of Maggie and her new friends, and now something wonderful is happening on this day.
Over the Texas plains, the rolling tumbleweeds, through the town of Chugwater, far out on the outskirts laid a prospering, quiet piece of property that is properly called 'Patch of Heaven' for a very good reason, but today, it's not quiet when sounds of a cow in labor is piercing the air.
The cow in question is Maggie herself, and this is the first time she will give birth to a very special baby, a calf/foal hybrid at that. Oh, she had been surrounded by pregnant cows when she was only a calf, so she has some sense of how motherhood would be like, but she never would have thought she'd be a mate to a horse.
Oh, sure, most residents on Patch of Heaven presumed that Maggie was attracted to Bob, one of the bulls residing here, but turns out that Bob is more of a roamer, flirter kind of guy, and they were better off friends. Maggie was most surprised that the occasion of being mates with Buck has given a new life growing inside her, and she's being encouraged by her best girlfriends, Grace and Mrs. Calloway.
Like Maggie, Grace and Mrs. Calloway are expecting, but very early in their pregnancies. Grace to Barry, and Mrs. C to Junior, in order. Grace is a first-timer like Maggie, but for Mrs. C, she had her share of delivering calves when she was living in a dairy warehouse somewhere north of here, but she was rescued by Pearl miraculously when her old owners believed that she was done for dairy work and all after she got depressed about the stillborn death of her latest calf.
Like Maggie, she is anxious about the development of her baby, for Junior is a tame buffalo and Mrs. C is a farm cow, but a remarkable buffalo calf/cow calf hybrid would be a gift either way.
Deep inside Patch of Heaven, there's a crowd of animals around the barn, the doors mostly closed with a tad bit open, and right there besides the door, furiously yet nervously pacing is Buck the Quarter buckskin horse.
Lucky Jack commented lightly, "Buck, you are making me dizzy with 'ur pacing! It's gonna be okay. Maggie got Grace and Mrs. C in there, and Pearl is helpin' too.". A huff, "He's right, Buck!", Rusty the dog nodded in slight annoyance, but he got a glint of concern in his eyes, feeling for Buck.
Buck sighed heavily, "Sorry...It's just that...this is really happening, you know? It's hard to believe that I and Maggie became mates last year, and now...she sounds like she's in pain...". Mollie the pig reassured him, "Aww, don't be worried, Buck, she's workin' hard to give that baby of yours into the world. After all, giving life is scary, but it sure is worth it!".
More sounds of Maggie's labor have reached their ears, and to humans, it's mooing, chuffing, grunting, and bellowing, but to Buck and the others..."Ah! How much longer is this going? Oooh! That hurts like the heck! Please tell me it's coming!".
Mrs. Calloway replied reassuringly, "It's okay, you're almost there.". Grace gasped loudly, "I can see the hooves! Front hooves! Aww, is that the nose?".
Buck seemed to bit his bottom lip with his teeth when he heard that, and heard Maggie shouting aka bellowing, "I gotta push! Please tell me that I can push!". Mrs. C responded, "Yes, Maggie, push!", and Buck heard Maggie grunting as she gave out a loud moo.
Grace gave out a delighted shout, "That's it, Maggie. Aww, it's adorable! You're almost there, the shoulders are showing!", and Maggie bellowed, "Great nipples, it hurts!".
Buck heard Mrs. C reprimand Maggie, "I know I am usually polite, but for once on this day, give all your darndest you got, Maggie! You're a momma! Push!". Buck and the other animals blinked in shock, never expecting Mrs. C to be actually blunt like that.
Maggie gave out about the loudest scream which sounded like a chuff to the humans, and Grace shouted, "I see the belly, oh, the back legs! Yes, there's the tail! You did it, Maggie!", and Maggie groaned lightly, "Where the heck is Buck?!".
Buck neighed loudly, "I'm right outside! Are you okay, Maggie?". Mrs. C huffed, "Clean your boy, Maggie, before Buck comes in!". Buck gasped softly to himself, "A boy?", hearing the other animals cheer loudly.
A few minutes later, Buck heard footsteps, and the barn door opened up, revealing a weary yet smiling Pearl, "I shoulda known you were the father, Buck. Go on and see your boy.", clearing the way for Buck to make his way, slowly walking to the stalls of the girls, with Maggie in the middle stall, with Grace and Mrs. Calloway leaving the stall corners with their heads high, smiles adoring their faces.
Buck passed by them, and spoke anxiously, "Maggie?", and Maggie looked up with a tired yet beaming face, "Come closer, Buck, come meet your son. He's sure a looker.", before resuming her bath upon her and Buck's son. Buck came closer, and he blinked in amazement as he took in all the features of his son that's laying against Maggie.
His snout clearly took after Maggie's snout, and then higher up is a four-pointed star, and his ears are horse-like, but with a slight oval shape, and there's a horse mane, spiky and fluffy, and the eyes are cow-like, but with Buck's eye color of dark brown, and the lanky, long legs look horse-like with cow hooves, and the body is somewhat less broad than Maggie's, but with sharp hindquarters like Buck, and the tail is a cow's tuft.
And for pelt color, it's like a copper reddish-brown, with white socks on the legs, along with the star being white, and a blond-ish brown color in the mane and tail tuft, with the hooves a black color.
Buck smiled softly as the little one blinked at him in awe and curiosity, "You're right, he's sure a looker. And Grace's right, he's adorable...". Maggie smiled widely, "What should we call him? After all, he needs a name, a good one to suit his good looks.".
Buck smiled, "Well, I was thinking about the night we saw a shooting star, and look, he has one, so how about Sterling?". Maggie smiled warmly as she nuzzled her boy, "My little star. Do you like it, darling? Do you wanna be Sterling?".
The calf/foal hybrid gave out a shrill chuffing nicker, and Buck laughed softly, "Looks like Sterling's mighty proud of his name.", and Maggie chuckled lightly as she got up, nudging Sterling, "Let's have you find your feet first before you meet the rest of the farm, Sterling.".
Sterling gave out a grunting neigh, determined to follow his mother and father as he then focused on finding his feet, half knowing that this is his first day of life, and only that his life is only getting better from now on.
