Aegis Knight
The wail of warning sirens tore through the evening air. Some eyes looked to the sky out of panic, shock, while others were quick to scream, "Get to the house!" "Get to the shelter!" as they felt the distant thunder of approaching danger. Tremendous footsteps stampeding across the wastelands still shook the grounds of their humble, little town.
"Warning! A-Class Tauroblaze on approach! Warning! Please, move to the nearest safest location!"
The downright horrific cry of the raging beast with their home directly in the path of its rampage. They could see the lights of its flames on the horizon and that terrifying light would only grow and flicker whenever it would release another of its bone-chilling roars.
The was only one man to walk against the tide of the panicking civilians. His boots ground over the gravel speckled dirt road cutting directly through the middle of their fair town. One hand in his pocket, the other holding the half-smoked cigar that still smoldered. Inhaling deep, he exhaled a long stream of grey smoke.
"Warning! A-Class Tauroblaze on approach! Five hundred meters out and closing!"
"Tauroblaze, eh? Hm, at least it's an easy one this time around," The man said to himself as he walked at a casual pace. Even as the streets emptied and doors to cellars were barred and reinforced, he continued to walk toward the danger. He continued to smile, to act with little to no urgency in his mannerisms as the hulking, burning form of the monster was plainly visible down to the burning orange of its eyes.
"A Tauroblaze. Classified A-Class threat. Been dealing with quite a few of those…" He could feel the rumble in greater force now. Small rocks around his feet skipped and danced as the earth shook.
It cried out violently yet again releasing long, twin streams of thick, white smoke from its nostrils and leaving a growing cloud of gas in its wake. Its body was overall stone-like, an angry crimson red molten underneath. Its body was continuously wrapped in lines that bled molten rock and spewed small bursts of fire. Flames enveloped its four hooves as it galloped full-speed toward Alyssum. Open vents on its back released stronger, explosive bursts of flames like gunshots. It seemed to speed up with every blast.
It lowered its horns that glowed red like they were super-heating from the fire within its own body. It had a targe now for its fury.
The man tapped the ashes from the burned tip of his cigar. Holding it between his lips, he lifted both arms and stretched. He lifted them high, stretched his back, worked those muscles, and ultimately he slipped back into a rather relaxed stance. "Come on… Get nice and close!"
He raised his right hand, a glowing, green pentagonal shield appeared on the back of his hand as he pointed his open hand toward the charging Tauroblaze. "Heroic Shield First - Aegis!" A spark of green magical energy formed over his palm then erupted into a far larger, massive, round shield befitting the size of the beast making a beeline for him!
Horns met shield! "AAaarrggwwwoooo!" The Tauroblaze roared, immediately stopped in its tracks as the magic shield was struck! A shockwave erupted through the air!. The immensity of the collision caused rhe ground around the pair to chip, crack, erupt and explode outward in a shower of stone! Wedges of earth upturned creating a ring around the duel between he immovable object and the force that did not want to be stopped!
A mighty surge of wind pushed around the shield and created a whirling dust storm around the smirking man. The Tauroblaze turned on the jets, five simultaenous streams of fire ejecting from the vents in its back as it pushed and pushed against the shield! It's eyes burned, it left out another bone-shaking cry of pure rage and the flames around its hooves danced higher to its knee joints.
The man did not move. His smirk never faltered for one moment even as the flames of Hell surged and the lights danced across his face. The boots he wore simply dug further into the earth, but no ground was ever given to the monster.
"Ah… I thought you might do better!" With a shove and surge of magic power, the shield spell he cast pushed back against the Tauroblaze and sent the beast flying! It left the ground anf flew several meters, turning and tumbling across the wasteland grounds!
It righted itself and scrambled to its feet. With a mighty cry and a target for the outlet of its unyielding fury, the Tauroblaze used the vents across its back to blast forward and rocket itself toward its new enemy. The heat nd molten rock of its core burned hotter and hotter until its inner blaze erupted outward and became a rushing coat of red hot fire! It was a charging meteor on a collision course for the man.
"Heroic Sword…" He put forward his left hand and a glowing, blue sword symbol appeared on the back of it, "Third, Muramasa!" He took a drawing stance with his left hand at his hip, fingers together and hand stiff. He swung the moment the Tauroblaze came within just a meter of him, when the heat of its raging inferno had started to singe and burn his clothing.
The flames vanished as a large upsurge of wind passed through the Tauroblaze, and the monster flew past him cut cleanly in half.
He adjusted his tattered clothes. Looking over, the halves of the monster were already started to smolder and ashen, per the usual death of a Tauroblaze.
"I hope my new crew has as easy a time as I do…"
He, Yaeger Grellem, looked forward to the arrival of the new recruits. Aegis Knight needed an influx of new blood. Asyllum needed to be a bit more lively.
