Sorry for the update ping I had to clarify some things with anote at the bottom of the chapterand fix a misspelling of Saphrons name as Saphire.
Inside of a dresser next to the messy bed of Jaune Arc lies a small leather wrapped book bearing the Arc family crest. Inside this notebook are the beginnings of a legendary huntsman, one revered across Remnant for his exploits and heroism. At least that's the way beacons blonde noodle would describe it.
In reality it was a diary.
A parting gift from his big sister Saphron before she left for Argus with her new wife Terra, he never really used it till he remembered its existence once he got his acceptance letter to Beacon Academy. That night he felt like shouting to the whole house but nobody but the little leather book could listen without alerting his family to his attempt at being a hero.
Now this diary labeled property of Jaune Arc lies in the palms of one Yang Xiao Long.
"Yang, you're terrible."
"Calm down Weisscream, what's the worst thing that could be in here? It's not like tall blonde and scraggly has some super dark and illegal secret, besides aren't you the least bit curious of how he really thinks about you?"
With a sigh Weiss pulls the chair from the sole desk in the RWBY dorm and opens a textbook in a rapidly failing attempt at studying for an upcoming quiz in Doctor Oobleck's class."Look Yang, as interested as I am in the inner machinations of that dolts mind I highly doubt your sister would be to pleased with you invading the privacy of her fist friend at Beacon."
"Actually Weiss I was kinda curious about Jaune myself, heck I was the one who told Yang to convince Nora to hand it over anyways." Ruby said as she poked her head from her bunk.
"Say Rubes how did you know about this thing and why'd you want it anyways?" Yang being the mama bear she is would be a fool not to question her little sister about what she's looking for in her closest male friend's now not so secret diary.
"Eh-? I mean I just uhhh wanted to get to know my fellow leader better.. YEA NOTHING WEIRD AT ALL!"
Again Yang would have to be brain dead to not take note of Rubys odd behavior, but she's a big girl now and she'd be there to make sure no matter what her baby sis is happy. "Regardless of who wanted what it's still a massive invasion of privacy, seriously do those words mean nothing to you two?"
"Nope."
"Nope."
With what felt like her hundredth sigh of the day Weiss produced some headphones so she could study in peace, in reality she was listening to nothing from her scroll she just didn't want to be caught also invading someone else's privacy.
"Okay fine, but if you two get too loud I will snatch that book and take it to Pyrrha, I'm sure she'd love to hear why her leaders private property was in your possession." And just like that the Icequeen of Beacon Academy was ready to eavesdrop on all of the dirty secrets the bumbling blonde had to spill, after all she'd do anything to avoid being called snow angel again.
"Well Rubes let's crack this bad boy open!"
Sitting on a beanbag chair in the dead center of the room Yang positioned herself in a comfy reading posture that still allowed Ruby to see the pages from her top bunk.
Looking at it the first thing the girls noticed was that the cover was genuine leather, it was worn showing that it's definitely seen better days but the real eye catcher was the Arc family crest proudly emblazoned on the front where the rest of the cover showed wear and tear the two crescents looked as if they were untouched by time.
"Wow, whoever gave this to Jaune sure knew how to make something look nice." Even Yang could see that there was obvious work put into the fine book.
"Hurry up Yang I would like to see the rest before we graduate please." For a shy girl someone really wants to see what makes the boy tick Yang mused to herself.
"Alright Rubes, chill out I'm getting going."
Upon opening the book the inside of the cover contained a pocket holding a single pen fashioned with wooden furniture and a golden clip with a small imitation of the two golden crescents found on the shield of Crocea Mors. On the first page in what was Jaune's handwriting were the words-
Property of Jaune Arc
Directly below this was a message from what seemed to be his older sister.
To my little brother
Out of all of the little rascals you were my favorite the rest will get their gifts when I leave. As for you I'm letting you have yours first.The pen in the cover is the last one grandpa Cyrus made before he got sickso make sure you never ever lose it. Take care of your baby sisters Jaune. I'm sure this will serve you well while I'm gone, if you ever don't know what to write pretend your writing a letter to big sister Saph.

"Ya know Ruby, I think we oughtto send Dad a letter to Patch." Yang was really liking the way this big sister was sounding maybe some day they could swap embarrassing stories of their respective adorkable little siblings.
"Aww his big sister sounds like a good one, doesn't she Yang?"
"Yup, I might have to swap some embarrassing stories with her sometime eh Rubes?"
Although she was making progress Ruby was still trying to completely break her social shell and Yangs teasing did nothing to really soothe her.
"Nope absolutely not, next page please!"
With a flip of the first page they were met with Jaune's first official entry.
"June 4th 78 years AGW. Hello-"
Knock Knock knock
"Hey girls it's me, Jaune. I kinda lost something and I was wondering if anyone had seen it."
Zipping from the top bunk Ruby barely gave Yang enough time to hide the book behind her back before nearly tearing the door from its hinges.
"Heya Jaune! What can the awesome Ruby Rose assist her best boy- I mean best friend?"
Not really sure what was up with Ruby he figured it was easier to just cut to the chase.
"So I kinda lost something and it's important to me, it's a book with my family crest on it."
With guilt eating at her Ruby had two choices.
Tell the truth.
Or lie.
She chose both.
"Does it look like this?" She then proceeds to grab it from Weiss's bed where Yang had thrown it in a bid to get it out her hands.
Recognizing his most prided possession second only to his ancestral blade he immediately grabbed it from her hands without so much as a second thought. "Oh my gosh thank you thankyouthankyou so much Ruby, where was it?"
"Oh uh I found it when you rushed out of Professor Peach's class." It wasn't far from the truth.
Turns out leaving the house with nothing but whatever you can fit on your person and a gym bag you don't think to bring much in the way of school supplies, leaving the financially unstable night to use his diary doubly as a notebook.
"Oh man you're a life saver Ruby I seriously owe you!"
Not really able to handle all the praise from her friend and crush she merely hummed happily in affirmation.
"Well VB Weiss is gonna be mad at us if we make much more noise so We're gonna have to go, have a good night Jaune." Thankfully Yang knew when Ruby was about three seconds away from critical failure and was able to bail her out before suffering from foot in mouth syndrome.
Unfortunately and unknowingly for the knight across the hall this would only be the first gaze RWBY took into his book.
"Man, I thought I was done for a second. I really need to grab supplies from Vale sometime." Setting his book inside his bag for tomorrow's classes he readied himself for bed and wished his team a goodnight before turning out the last lamp in the JNPR dorm.

Well I've officially rebranded on this site. This marks my first attempt at non academic writing in about two years so consider this first chapter as a dip in the water. As for the big things I am and always will be pro Lancaster. Been like that since day one when I started watching during V3s original run. Ahhh the good ol days. No Grimm whales or relics in sight, just terrorists and gangsters. Anyways this is Nate logging out at 1:15 am until next time fellas leave a commentor maybe a follow if this idea interests you.

Jaune will find out eventually what happens and he will react accordingly to someone reading his private thoughts.
Also for the purposesof this story there will be things that don't happen in cannon and Ruby being the awkward 15 yearold she is will do somethings that seem out of pocket, that's because teenagersare all out of line and have a moral compass that seems to be inside of a magnetic box.
We're also gonna pretend V3 never happened and that everyone got to go to class in peace hopefully I can end this by the Vytal tournament or shortly after it.
Anyways thanks for interacting with this story hopefully it'll turn into something worth reading with some extra time in the oven. I'll do my best to get something figured out in terms of an upload schedule I'm thinking maybe once every Wednesday or so.
