Hello there, my name is Crystal Brick and I'm here to post a story (obviously). I have been thinking of this story for a while now and I think I'm ready to post it. I've been inspired by those New Perspective stories by KenitohMenara and the subsequent short universe that followed after. I don't know if they are still going but that's how it is. To tell you the truth, I didn't like some of the content in their but I loved how they've introduced the concept of humanity losing their place in the world and pokemon taking over, never saw many stories exploring that concept. So I wanted to explore out in detail and such. Shout outs to KenitoMenara and the other writers who worked on the New Perspective stuff.

To be clear, this story is not in the NP universe, I consider it to be it's own universe with it's own thing. Normal animals that exist in out world also exist in the Pokemon world as their own separate species from pokemon. If you have any question about this series, just post comments in the reviews and I answer in subsequent chapters. I will update irregularly but I'll try to post as much as possible. Enjoy.

Chapter 1: A New Day

*Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!*

I cracked open my eyes and rubbed them. I really hated that alarm clock, what sort of cruel person would create such a thing? I rolled over to the side and slammed the button so hard it silenced the device forever… until tomorrow.

I yawned and hopped out of bed and surveyed the room: superhero action figures and comics adorn my bookshelf, posters of cool pokemon hanging off the wall, my video consoles… Man I love being a kid.

The light from the mirror caught my eye, it has been a while since I took a full look at myself… why not? I walked over and saw the figure in the glass; just an ordinary seven year old in his pajamas. I flexed my muscles in a show of strength. "Just need to keep eating my vitamins… hm?"

I glanced over to the calendar to see the number. "Oh my god… It's Christmas!" I yelled before covering my mouth. Whoops! Too loud, hopefully I didn't wake dad up.

I ran down the stairs watching my feet all the way down. I almost jumped into the living room. Ben was helping Dad move the presents out of the tree. Uncle Leo was also there, staring off as he sipped something that looked like apple juice from one of those fancy tall glasses I've seen at restaurants. Rosey, our lucario was resting on the couch but her head perked up when she saw me. She happily leapt off the couch and stood by me, giving me a hug alongside with a couple of licks to my head. I couldn't help but giggle.

Dad adjusted his glasses and chuckled. "Welcome to the land of the living son, how did you sleep?"

I rubbed Rosey's back. "It was amazing, Dad! You wouldn't believe what my dream was!"

My brother was massaging his neck, moving his dog tags in the process. "Let me guess, is it the one where'd you gained superpowers and become part of the Y-Men?"

I playfully gasped. "How did you know?"

"Pfftt… Imagine you without comics is like imagining a grilled cheese sandwich without the cheese. Speaking of which..." He went over to the a paper bag on the table where'd Leo was sitting and pulled out several Y-Men comics! "Found these on my way home; brand new and laminated."

I broke from Rosey's grip and took the comics from his hand. I looked at the cover, VictorY of People #1 and Mutation of Youth #6! "These are brand new! I gotta read this!"

"Ahem." Dad coughed, looking me straight in the eyes.

"Right… Thanks so much, bro!" I hugged his legs. "You're the best."

Ben patted my head. "Anything for my little scoundrel in chief. Should we start?"

"Yes… it's about time. Leonard, want to sit by us?" My dad asked.

My uncle was scrolling through his phone as he took another sip of that fizzy apple juice. "I'm busy; be there in a minute."

My dad sighed, he seemed to be sad. Why would he be sad on a day like this? He clapped his hands, gaining my attention. "Alright son, let's kick this off with a special gift that Santa and I signed personally… Right-"

"Woah! You know Santa Claus!?" I blurted.

"Why of course! Him and I have a lot in common! And boy isn't he a swell guy!"

Rosey rolled her eyes as my brother face-palmed himself. "Dad..."

"Ben. Hush. Your gift is right under the coffee table. Take a look." He pointed to the small piece of furniture by the couch. I went on my knees and took a look inside: There was a large cardboard box inside. It didn't have a wrapping or even a bow on it. It was totally bare.

"Uh… thanks Dad?" I pulled the box out in the open on the rug. I noticed something else about my gift. Small little holes had been pierced all over the lid… and it was moving? I popped open the top and looked inside. I held my breath.

There was an animal inside. It looked like a dog and it was small, a puppy. The fur of the creature was the color of a cinnamon roll. It looked up to me with sparkling eyes, hanging its tongue without a care in the world.

"Sweet!" I grasped the dog and held it within my hands. "It's a…! It's a..." I furrowed my brow, tilting my head to the side. "What pokemon is this? I haven't seen this one before."

"Oh my god!" Ben face-palmed his head but this time he was laughing. In fact, the entire room was filled with laughter; even Rosey cracked a smile.

My dad knelt down to my level. "Calvin. This ain't a pokemon. It's just a dog, a golden retriever to be specific."

"Golden Retriever?" I looked at the puppy more closely. I knew Humans and Pokemon weren't the creatures living on planet Earth. I think my teacher called them… animals. They were like pokemon in a way but with superpowers. I guess we're similar in that aspect.

A part of me wanted to sighed right there. I've seen the amazing stuff the pokemon were able to do. They had all sorts of abilities like the Y-Men! I wish I was born with the power to fly, move stuff with my mind… anything special really! Anything really as long as it's cool. Humans really don't have anything special over pokemon really. Well… except with the ability to think and create cities and stuff. Some people might say that's an ability of itself. I guess that's kind of special. Still I wonder what would happen if the Pokemon managed to be civil as us? Nah… impossible for it to happen.

The puppy stared at me. I never had an animal dog before. They say animals have a harder time understanding humans, that our bonds wouldn't be as strong as a trainer to its pokemon. Knowing that, could we really get along?

The puppy liked my face with its tongue.

"I love him! I love him, dad!" I gave the puppy a big hug. "Thank you, thank you very much dad! I'll cherish this forever. I'm going to call you "Roll"!"

"I knew you would love ii! So glad you two are already making friends." He presented me with a dog collar with a metal tag on the front. "We'll have to go to the pet store to get the name registered but taking care of a pet is a big responsibility, Calvin. Are you up for it?"

"A hundred percent! I won't let Roll down!"

Dad laughed. "Alright, now just to put this on..." Dad knelt down and attached the green color around Roll's neck. It fitted him perfectly. "There you go, son! Makes him look cute don't you think?"

My dad kept talking but I didn't listen. My attention was fully on Roll. He looked in my eyes and I looked in his. Even though I have no powers, I promised I would protect this dog with my life. I gave him another hug… no… he smells better than cinnamon.

Present

I stared at the lone collar in my hands… It feels so long ago. I put it back in my pocket. The fire crackles on the snowy floor of the forest. I rubbed my hands over and over to retain warmth but it wasn't working; even with mittens I feel myself becoming into a popsicle.

"Ah… so hungry." I went into the back of the rusty delivery van. It had been abandoned long ago, before this happened I think. It won't drive but at least it will provide me comfort against the cold.

I went straight to the passenger seat and looked inside the cardboard box. A bag and a chocolate bar… Crap... the only other food I currently have… was salty chips and expired chocolate. "Oh no. No… no, no, no, no!" I slammed by hand on the leather of the seat. "Dammit… this won't last. I need to make another run."

How could I run out so quickly? It seemed like I had a lot when I got this. Now I have to scavenge again. I pulled out the map of Kalos from my pocket, scanning my eyes through the landmarks of red circles and crosses. "The next town is close, I can make it without a problem." I realized what I just said. "No, it was too naive to say it wouldn't be a problem. I might get caught."

My stomach began to hurt, I looked at the junk food with longing. "I have no choice. I have to take the risk." I gathered my backpack and quickly consumed the last of my food. Then I smothered the fire with the surrounding snow and walked down the road; staying very close to the trees.

It was a while until I reached the town on the way I saw those billboards they've replaced after the war: a picture of floatzel and lopunny having a picnic under a tree. "Happy New Year! to one and all! For-" Is all I read before I scoffed and spit on the road. Happy New Year? They have the audacity to steal our crap and pretend it's theirs?! It's not even New Years yet! Why would they even celebrate holidays? They're not people!

I shook my head. Getting too angry would only be a distraction. Still I couldn't shake the fact off. That stupid war. No one knew how it happened exactly. We were all just doing our own thing when the pokemon everywhere just attacked out of nowhere. Kanto. Sinnoh. Aloha. Galar. No region was spared, the entire planet suffered throughout the entire globe.

I didn't see it for myself but the news said the pokemon were hunting us, either slaughtering us for sport or enslaving us until we kicked the bucket. Then after the dust settled they began imitating us; going to work, watching movies… stuff like that. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself.

The army couldn't squat against them. Many groups were formed to either hide or fight the pokemon. I was one of the lucky ones who managed to find refuge with a larger group, but. I- Don't think about. Don't think about it. Don't think about it. I violently slapped myself. No… dammit I promised myself I wouldn't think about it again… Why the hell am I going back on my promise?

I heard footsteps… I froze. I cracked my head and saw an aegislash and gallade chatting among one another as they walked down the path. I dove towards the bushes. Thankfully they didn't notice the shuffling and just walked past. I waited until I was sure they were gone.

I narrowed my eyes to the sky; full moon. There are still stray pokemon walking about but the roads are otherwise fairly empty. Makes sense… most people would be relaxing in front of the fireplace, snuggling in their own homes whilst I'm freezing my butt off here. Sucks to be them right?

I've gotta stop with the internal sarcasm. This can't be good for my health. I took out my map again and reviewed it's contents more closely. "The restaurant district is somewhat far… if I stick to the alleyways I should reach there relatively quickly. You got this Calvin. Today is a new day. Today is a new day."

I silently repeat my mantra as I sneaked into town. Today is a new day, that is the phrase my dad tells me all that time back then. I never knew what he'd meant, and it's not like I can ask him now. But I find that saying it makes me… lighter? It's hard to explain but I feel somewhat calm whenever I say it. My own personal good luck charm.

I entered the bounds of the town and kept my guard up. I desperately looked for an alleyway. My apparel is white as the snow, so if I do encounter any witnesses I can just drop to the floor and let my artificial camouflage do the work. I saw a pair of pokemon having fun in the snow. They were both psychic types and they threw snowballs at each other.

I found the alleyway, I entered and not before I scowled in the kid's general direction. Why do they get powers and we don't? It was unfair, so unfair. There was a time where I'd admire them, still couldn't believe I actually did that. Sadly I still envy them though. If only they had seen the sign earlier, we wouldn't be in this position in the first place.

The tight alleyways were confusing as hell but the map showed me the way. I made many turns left, right, and center. I still was only half-way there. Dang it.

I was so engrossed with the paper in my hands, I accidentally bumped into a trash can which fell on its side and the contents were poured out. I stiffened, the snow muffened the noise considerably but it was still noticeable… Thankfully, no one has spotted me yet.

I looked down at the trash. There was unuseable junk in the pile but there was a bunch of edible stuff mixed in. Half-eaten candy bars, pizza boxes with some pizza inside, even several cans of unopened soda. I hit the jackpot.

I went on my knees and dug out the goods. There was a time where human society frowned upon digging your meal from the trash, now it's considered to be an excellent survival tactic. Funny how things change so quickly. All of the stuff that's safe to eat has already been exposed to the air which means I can't really take my pack with me. So I obeyed my stomach and just scarfed it down. It tastes so good… I missed food like this. Considering that I could almost see my ribs that's an understatement.

I stopped when I heard laughter. Human laughter.

I looked both ways, it didn't come from the alley. I tuned my ears more closely and it pointed me to a window a little high up where I'm standing. I should have just ignored it but something pulled me in. I had to investigate further. I moved the other trashcan up the wall and climbed it. I looked inside and was shocked.

A raboot, a scorbunny and a leafon was playing a board game on the rug. But that's not what caught my eye, they were playing with a human child. It was a girl, from the looks of it she'd appeared to be no younger than eight. She was in her pajamas. They all laughed, then the girl shared some marshmallows with the scorbunny next to her. It gladly took it.

I lowered my head, I couldn't believe it. "How the hell?" I whispered to myself. They said that the pokemon were out to exterminate us. How… why… doesn't add up. Maybe… it was mind control! Psychic types were capable of messing with your mind… I think

But if that's the case… Why are they playing with her? Am I missing something here?

I don't know how long I stayed but I heard footsteps in the snow, my heart stopped. No. I cracked my neck to the left, the glow from the streetlights from outside was visible on the rear end of the brick. Shadows of various pokemon danced along the wall. They are coming this way! How did they find me?! I was silent!

I raised my head a bit more; a camera on the high end near the roof. They saw me! Shit! I stepped back instinctively, the lid wasn't properly secured than I hoped. The top flinged me off of my perch. I had to resist puking as I felt rotting garbage clinging to my chest.

The shadows began to howl and pick up their pace. They lost the element of surprise, I have to book it! I scurried up on my feet and sprinted hell out of dodge. I couldn't help it, I took a quick glance behind. I fell on the snow and got back up. It was hard to see my pursuers but I definitely saw a zoroark! A fricking zoroark! Those alongside dittos were the bane of human resistance! They were so effective because they blended in and reported to the pokemon when you least expect it! They were powerful spies, and I got one chasing me! A ZOROARK IS CHASING ME!

I heard cries of the pokemon chasing me I couldn't tell exactly they were coming from. It was like any second they can pounce me! Why did I ever come to this town?! There's gotta be another exit! Up ahead I saw an iron fence, it's tall but no barbed wire on top. On the other side was the rear of a building, but what caught my eye was the steel ladder attached to the wall leading up to the roof. I don't like the risk, but I have no choice!

I sprinted fast enough to reach the gate. I heard cries coming from the left and right of me, must be in an intersection. I gripped my fingers and the tip of my shoes through the metal diamond holes. It was much more painful; the cold is slowing down my muscles. This is going to be fun.

I went over the top when I felt a tug on my heavy pant leg. I turned my head to see an infernape keeping a hold on my leg. It reached out more and now had its paws on my entire sneaker. The pokemon was very determined to pull me off, I could have sworn my knuckles popped in the process. I was tearing up at my desperation, I attempted to wiggle my foot from its hold but it only seemed determined to grip me harder.

The zoroark and its friends were catching up to me. I yelped and kicked the ape in the face, my sneaker slipped off in the process but that's a loss I'm willingly to take with open arms. I crashed belly first on the opposite side but the snow was kind enough to break my fall.

I shook the white flakes from my hair and ran to the ladder, I climbed up without hesitation. I heard metal creaking down below. I stared over my shoulder, a grovyle reached into a little satchel that was hanging from his waist. It pulled out a key and inserted it into the lock. The gate had opened up just like that, their little set back had been reversed.

My lungs were beginning to hyperventilate, I can already feel the rumbling down below- the vibrations on the metal coming ever closer to me. Why won't they go away! I finally reached the roof and ran across the other roofs of the connected buildings. I encountered a dead end in the form of the edge. I looked down to see the main street, the restaurant district- the goal of my scavenge. Pokemon were still around in this area, doing their own thing when several of them started pointing to me. Now I'm becoming a twinkling star in the night.

A pit was forming in my stomach. "This is it isn't it. I'm screwed. I'm going to die..." I muttered to myself. The footsteps that were charging at me had stopped. "No… I'm not going down like this. I'm not!" I strained. I quickly hauled off the backpack in my pack and opened the zipper. I reached inside and pulled out my trusty weapon, a large butcher's cleaver, it felt nice to wield this again. I just hoped this isn't the last.

I turned around to my pursuers: the infernape, the grovyle, leafon, a drifblim and the zoroark I had feared. They formed a half-circle around me with the zoroark taking the lead. They all were shocked, the zoroark was the only pokemon that didn't flinch. He must be the leader, how strong are the nerves on this 'mon!

The zoroark talked to its members without turning its head. The leafon talked back but was immediately shut down. The zoroark carefully got closer with the grovyle and the infernape following close behind. The illusion fox faced my direction and spoke to me, but I didn't understand a thing that this animal was saying. How can anyone? They have their own special language!

But I didn't care what it was saying, these things were out to kill me! So why should I hold back! I have nothing to lose. "Get away from me you monsters! Back I say! Back!" I swung the knife in the zoroark's direction. It dodge the swipes without any problem. On my fourth swipe it grabbed my weapon from the handle before knocking it out of my hand altogether. The grovyle caught the knife and inserted it into his bag. I'm all defenseless now, my one trump card has been lost just like that.

They were ganging up on me now, my tears and snot began flowing like a river. My lungs were burning so much. I refuse to let myself be captured! I don't want to be tortured!

I snapped my head behind me; a small pile of snow rested at the bottom; smooth landing. It'll be risky, but it's the only option I have left. I looked back at the zoroark, its eyes widened. It must have known what my plan was. It now sprinted right at me. I broke away from the stare and leaped as close as I could to the pile of snow. But my aim was off.

It was hard to see, but I could have sworn I had seen a bench.

I landed on my back and heard snapping, I couldn't pin-point where it came from. I felt an instant, piercing, unbearable pain in head and knee. I thought I would scream but I couldn't move… wait… how did I get here? My… Do I have a headache? It feels… odd.

I was straining to open my eyes but I barely managed to do so. I saw a bunch of pokemon had formed a circle around me, they all were crying… why are they sad, it's Christmas… or is Thanksgiving?

Something landed in the snow next to me. A zoroark pushed through the crowd and stared right at my, its eyes watered like a faucet. It zipped open a satchel off its hip and pulled out bandages. It knelt down and picked me up within its arms. My hair was being pressed up against, and it was getting tighter and also warmer.

The zoroark spun me around slowly and pressed me up against its black fur. I'm... enemy… this isn't right… I still feel flesh… cold… I can't feel…

...so...cold…

...
