(A.N. Since My Girls is slowly coming to an end and I've had this story stuck in my head, I figured I would get a start on it. I hope you enjoy and please let me know what you think :) )
The red numbers glared brightly: 11:26pm. She could hear the distant yelling from across the house but couldn't bother to zone in on what the most recent altercation was. She turned to the open window and sighed, staring into the dark Denver sky, comforted by the emptiness. 'Same problems, different day,' she thought to herself as her parents' fighting continued to echo through the house. She heard the quiet creek as the door opened and saw her little sister standing timidly in the dim light. Gabriella opened the covers and the little girl shut the door before climbing into her big sister's bed, cuddling into her side. "Mama and Papa are fighting and it's scary."
Gabriella hugged the little girl closer. "You don't have to be scared Livie, I won't let them hurt you."
"I don't wanna go to school tomorrow, they're mean to me."
The sixteen-year-old sighed as she looked at the six-year-old who was clinging to her. "I know they are, they're mean to me too. Have you told a teacher?"
She shook her head. "They pick on me more if I tell a teacher."
"I'm sorry sweet girl, how about I come down for lunch tomorrow, I won't let them pick on you."
"Yes please, I love you Bria."
The teen smiled at the name that the little girl only used when they were alone. "I love you too Livie." She glanced at the clock seeing that 15 minutes had passed. "You need to get some sleep, it's way passed your bedtime and you'll be very tired tomorrow."
"Can you say my special goodnight?"
Gabriella smiled and started gently scratching her back, whispering Olivia's special goodnight - something the teen had been doing for as long as she could remember. "Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high. There's a land that I've heard of, once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me. Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops. That's where you'll find me." She kissed her sister's forehead. "Tomorrow's another day Sweet Girl and I love you everyday to the end of the universe. Sweet dreams Livie."
"Sweet dreams Bria, love you."
Gabriella fell asleep that night with her little sister in her arms. Her previous statement held so much meaning to both of them, regardless of what they were going through, they had each other and tomorrow was always another day.
