Part I
It seemed every home she found she would lose in the end, in one way or another.
When she was young, still just a child, she had been sent away, far away, from Caladan by Father to finishing school, left a child and came back a young woman, leaving her father, mother, brother and home.
That was when Gurney arrived, before her return, during her absence. The new Weapons Master of House Atreides intrigued her from the very beginning, and they spent a lot of time together upon her return, especially with her at her brother's side, alongside him in his duties more and more.
Now, Leto was Lord Duke, and she was still at his side helping him oversee the House and planet home. And Gurney was still there, as loyal as ever.
"Will you permit us to wed?" she asked her brother many years later, a time when her connection to Gurney was at its closest.
"If I say no will you listen?"
She smirked. "You know me well, Brother."
"Yes, I do, Sister. And of course, I wish you both every happiness, together and apart."
"Thank you, Leto."
"Sister."
And at that time they were happy. For how could they know, how could any of them know then, that this was in fact the beginning of the end?
