Heyo! I know that I have tried my hand at writing before and it didn't go well, but it's been a few years and I worked really hard on getting my skills up and I'd like to say that I'm much better at grammar and spelling now. I hope this goes alright, please tell me what you think in the comments!
Sabrina Grimm had a wonderful life.
She had a loving family, comprised of her two parents, who worked as detectives for the city police department, but loved to spend time together as a family. Her father was kind, but strict and loved to joke around with them. Her mother was strong and witty, always ready with an intelligent comeback to any kind of conversation. Then there were her two younger siblings, Daphne and Basil. Daphne was a hyperactive girl of 11 years old, and Basil was a spunky prankster of 6 years old.
Sabrina was entering her sophomore year of high school and that meant Daphne would be in the seventh grade, and Basil would be in the first. Sabrina wasn't one to sugar coat the truth, so she honestly knew that she was one of the more popular girls in her school, her friends were kind and truly understood her.
Sabrina looked beautiful, had a great family, awesome friends, had good grades, and she was on the school's track team in the spring, currently in personal training until the season began.
Everything was about as good as it could get.
. . .
That is, until she got detention for something she didn't even do.
Fifth period meant lunch at the canteen. Sabrina was sitting with her friend group, all of which were considered the popular girls. Though she never intended to be friends with them, her best friend, Bella Williams, had ones dragged her to sit with them and Sabrina hadn't really regretted the decision. Except when they tried to make her wear dresses and skirts, then she drew the line.
Despite her natural beauty, Sabrina never really tried to show off, normally wearing jeans and plain shirts, or for the occasional presentation, she wore a blouse to seem more presentable. Sabrina did have dresses for functions her parents would bring her to, the house parties she went to with friends, and for Homecoming, but those were more like once a month ordeals and only for two or three hours.
"So, let's talk Homecoming." Spoke a stunning blonde by the name of Lorelei.
"Seriously, it's almost two months away." Sabrina spoke, baffled.
"That's hardly enough time." A perky brunette by the name of Amelia agreed with her friend.
"Brina, you need to start more attention. Girls are trying to get guys, and they know that, all the guys are trying just as hard to get our attention. Flirting is meant to be subtle and sabotage is meant to be brutal and unforgiving. It's how things work." Lorelei educated, a sickeningly sweet tone to her voice.
"Wow, that sounds so important." Sabrina rolled her eyes.
"Why don't we get you nachos before a fight breaks out?" Bella interjected, a playful grin on her features. Bella was a short girl with light brown hair that had been dyed blue at the tips. She had a round face, which only made her features look more innocent. Sabrina half-smiled and half-smirked, nodding her head in surrender.
"I could've handled that." Sabrina pouted when they were far enough away.
"Oh yes, that was apparent by how blue in the face Lorelei was getting." Bella shot back.
"Did you see Mandy choke on her apple?" Sabrina grinned mischievously.
"You're horrible." But Bella was smiling despite herself. The girls had gotten the still-warm, cheesy nachos and payed for them before beginning to head back to their seats. However, poor placement of a wall that curved and turned fully around made the two collide with a boy clad in a green sweatshirt.
"Oh shit, sorry about that." Bella spoke quickly, a flurry of papers falling from the book the boy held close to his chest. It was Robin. It wasn't a surprise that Bella and Sabrina knew him, they were in a few of the same classes freshman year, and other than that he was branded as a freak. Never nice to anyone, morbid references and all that. Sabrina knelt to help, using her free hand to collect the papers, which had fantastic illustrations of Fairy Tale characters in other looks. Villains portrayed as teachers and heroes wearing popular brand clothing.
"These are really cool." Sabrina complimented, offering a small smile. She glanced up, the papers extended to Robin.
Maybe that was mistake #1.
In a swift movement that Sabrina could barely describe, Robin had knocked Sabrina's nachos into her shirt and stolen his papers back, hastily shoving everything in the cover of an old, hard-covered black book. Sabrina instantly stood up.
"What the hell?!" She raised her voice slightly, not exactly yelling but attracting the attention of a couple people at nearby tables.
"You, of all people, aren't allowed to look at this. Dog-face." Robin insulted, shoving past Sabrina.
"Hey, I'm not done talking to you." Sabrina, yanked his shoulder, causing Bella to tug on Sabrina's arm anxiously.
"Brina, maybe you should just let it go. People are-"
"What gives you the right to treat me so rudely when I was just trying to help?" Sabrina interrupted, glaring furiously at the blond boy in front of her. He was a full head and a half taller and his curly hair only added a little more to his height. His green eyes were stone hard and angry.
"Sorry to have offended the plastic in the making, but if you stop focusing on other people's lives, then you'll have more time to fix your own." Robin bit angrily. By now, the lunch monitor Mr. Stevens, who was also a gym teacher had made it over. Unfortunately he was very strict and loved making every child's life a living hell.
"What happened here?" He interrupted.
"It was just an accident sir, nothing to worry about." Bella stammered.
"Did you spill nachos all over her?" Mr. Stevens directed at Robin.
"She threw my art all over the ground." Robin shrugged, blatantly lying.
"That is so not what happened." Sabrina complained.
"I don't want to hear it, detention for the both of you." Mr. Stevens scribbled on two red slips of paper, handing them to the exasperated teenagers in front of him. Sabrina had expected Robin to get detention, was grateful for it even, but her? What had she done wrong?
"Brina, let's go clean you up." Bella suggested.
"I have an extra shirt in my locker, let's go." Sabrina finally decided, the two heading off, but not before sending Robin one more death glare. The blond boy simply tugged his hood over his head and walked out of the lunchroom in the opposite direction.
So Sabrina was had changed and headed back to the lunch room, listening to the conversations of her friends, who had by now heard the story from Bella. They were debating what was wrong with Robin, and as rude as the boy had been to Sabrina, she didn't think it was the kind of conversation that she wanted to have about anybody. Especially behind their back.
"Maybe he's just a mental case off his medication." Mandy giggled.
"Seriously, he just knocked them all over Brina like that? Completely psychotic." Lorelei scrunched her nose up in disgust.
"He could be drunk, or high. I mean my uncle gets angry when he's completely stoned." Amelia added her two cents.
"Maybe we shouldn't be so mean about it." Sabrina suggested.
"Are you . . defending him?" Lorelei asked, raising her brows in suspicion.
"Absolutely not. I just don't want to hear about him anymore. It's not worth our time." Sabrina covered quickly. No, she wasn't exactly a mean girl, but it didn't sit right with her having to act as though she hated someone who had been mean to her. Sure, she wasn't planning on being friends with the guy any time soon, but she definitely didn't want to tarnish his already awful reputation by spreading rumors about him. Yeah, she wasn't defending him, just offering a simple courtesy.
"Mom, I said I'm sorry, I swear I told you everything." Sabrina told her mom, school having ended two minutes ago and the hallways buzzing with gossip and conversation.
"How did you not stand up for yourself? Did you tell anyone else what happened?" The voice of Veronica Grimm asked through the line, exasperated. "I don't want you walking home so late."
"I know mom, but it's not that far and I promise I'll be fine. It's just until five. Five isn't that late." Sabrina reasoned. "Besides, dad was working from home today right? Can't he get Basil and Daphne?"
"Yes, I'll give him a call. This better be a one-time thing, Sabrina, or so help me-"
"It will be, mom. Don't worry. I swear." Sabrina promised. "I love you."
"I love you too, be safe!" Veronica hung up quickly, heading back to work as Sabrina turned for the classroom, her shoulder brushed by Robin, who had shoved past her, away from a nerdy looking boy with wide-rimmed glasses and well-kept blond hair.
"Puck!" He called, in an accusatory way. He made his way to Sabrina. "I apologize for my older brother, he's rather moody these days."
"It's . . alright. I'm sorry, you two are brothers?" Sabrina observed, noting that this boy was noticeably cleaner than his elder brother. His clothes seemed to be neatly pressed, even after a full day at school, and stood up straight and proper, unlike his brother.
"Yes, my name is Mustardseed, and I do know how strange it sounds." Mustardseed smiled awkwardly.
"Get that a lot then?" Sabrina quirked her lips into a small smile. "You want me to tell him anything? We're heading to the same detention."
"Just ask him to wait for me, please? He's my ride home." Mustardseed asked awkwardly.
"You got it. . . And did you call him Puck?" Sabrina wondered.
"Just a nickname, don't worry about it." Mustardseed was then off in the direction of the construction and business wing of the school. Perhaps he was a part of a robotics club, he certainly looked like he could make a career out of working with programming or something computer-centered.
So Sabrina headed to the gym, where she found Robin sitting in the furthest corner of the bleachers, up at the very top, a good ways away from Sabrina when she entered. His hood was still up, keeping his hair mostly hidden, with tangled strands poking out as he focused on sketching in his book. Shaking her head, Sabrina climbed up one step and sat down, slinging her bag next to her feet. Mr. Stevens had finally entered from a door that led to the back fields behind the school, he was also one of the three football coaches.
"Alright, you two are going to shine the trophies in the trophy cases. The two of you can go free when you're done. Mr. Zhang is going to be in the hallway supervising." Mr. Stevens stepped into his office before producing two buckets and towels. Inside were cleaning supplies. "Use these, and when you're finished, Mr. Zhang will let you go. Understood?"
"Yes sir." Sabrina responded quietly, nothing coming from Robin.
"No drawing." Mr. Stevens frowned, causing Robin to slam his book shut and stuff it in his back, an annoyed expression on his face the whole time.
So Sabrina and Robin took their buckets and filled them with water. Then they moved to the hallways where the class cased had been opened and allowed access to the trophies inside. There were about eight cases, four on each side, and they could hold about six to eight trophies each. At most, she'd be shinning thirty-two of these worthless pieces of metal.
"Your brother wants you to wait for him." Sabrina informed politely.
"How nice of you." Puck mocked, already haphazardly scrubbing the metal statue.
"Only because he was polite. You're rather rude." Sabrina snarled, whipping her head around to the trophies and getting started on her own.
"You're so insufferable because you just don't understand how horrible you are. You're like the worst kind of person." Robin scoffed, shaking his head.
"I'm the worst? Why don't you try egotistical, lying jerks? Maybe you're an outcast for a reason." Sabrina grumbled.
"Oh there's a reason alright." Robin sounded increasingly more annoyed.
"Are you going to tell me?" Sabrina asked pointedly.
"Why should I?" Robin rolled his eyes.
After that, it was silent between the two of them for a while. The occasional student rolled through, then some teachers. Sabrina had shifted to the second case, a little after Robin had. She was being more meticulous, while the green-eyed boy hurried through his work.
"How do you even know Sonya Parker anyway?" Sabrina finally mumbled, catching Robin's attention.
"You know her?" He asked, no particular emotion in her voice.
"Yeah I know her, freak baby, why do you?" Sabrina shot back, earning her a scowl.
"My mom reads those kinds of books. Let's just say she and my dad don't get along." Robin offered cryptically, but it was enough for Sabrina to put a few clues together.
"That sucks." Sabrina shrugged, unsure how to approach that issue. "My friend read it when she was getting through her first break-up. Not sure if she found it particularly useful, but it was interesting to see her reading a book."
"I didn't know Barbie knew how to read." Robin mocked, a softened glare still gracing his features.
"Barbie has been fairies, princesses, mermaids, dentists, doctors, singers, actresses, and royalty. Ken is the trophy husband." They were both on the third case now. Puck still a little ahead of Sabrina.
"You and your plastics are just so . . ." Puck trailed off, but Sabrina noticed the uncomfortable expression on his face.
"That's so offensive, you haven't even met them." Sabrina defended. "We're not plastics."
"Ahuh, I can't believe girls are so focused on stupid things like hair and makeup and wearing the right clothes. Going to Homecoming or other stupid dances. You realize that there are more important things than social media right?" Robin asked, ranting slightly.
"Who hurt you?" Sabrina mocked, earning an exasperated sigh. "And I don't have social media. You could just talk to us. Sometimes the greatest adventure is simple a conversation."
"Amadeus Wolfe. Too easy. And I don't really do talking to people." Robin responded.
"You seem to be doing just fine to me, Robin." Sabrina sighed.
"Puck."
"What?"
"Call me Puck. It's what my friends call me. If I had more than one."
"Well now you do." Sabrina smiled and moved to the fourth case, the cleaning continued in silence for a while and Sabrina took the second to last trophy from the case when Puck came over, beginning to clean the last. Sabrina could now clearly see all his features. His slightly curled blond hair was messy, but looked more as though he just hadn't combed it. His eyes were green and had softened from the fiasco at lunch, but now Sabrina could see the bags under his eyes. Other than those things, Puck looked better than average, he was fairly attractive, just his words were a bit too rough around the edges.
"We're done." Puck snapped Sabrina from her intense staring as his green eyes met her blue ones. She nodded, putting the trophy back in place. They both headed out and Sabrina made to walk away when Puck grabbed her backpack strap.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"I was upset about you looking at my drawings because . . well . . . here." Puck moved to grab a small piece of paper folded many times over again from his pocket. He put it in Sabrina's hands and she carefully unfolded it, finding that it was of her and her friends, except they were all styled as Barbie dolls, smiling. Except Sabrina, who was drawn in her normal outfit with a bored and snarky look on her face.
"This is amazing." Sabrina snorted into her hand. "I love it. Why couldn't you show it to me?"
"I thought you'd think it was creepy, but I guess you like the attention." Puck insulted casually.
"Maybe I do, stalker. Can I keep this?" Sabrina asked.
"I guess. I don't really need it." Puck shrugged. "That was it by the way."
"Oh, sorry, guess I was distracted. You really should draw more stuff like this. It'd be cool to see it." Sabrina then turned and began to head home. Maybe, just maybe she didn't mind detention.
Hello my lovelies~
I have a very thin outline of this story right now, so I know how it ends and the major events I want to happen . . . It's just getting from all of these points that's the issue. So I don't know how many chapters this will be. I'll attempt to update twice a week, and we'll see how that goes. Thanks so much for reading and please give me feedback! Love you all, bye now!
