First ever multi-chapter, LONG non-One Piece story! I'm so excited to post it! I did my best to keep most of the characters in character, but it's my first time exclusively writing them, so please be kind. Though some are purposely out of character for reasons. I read a story where it took place around the major events of the canon timeline, so that's what I did!

Rated M for a mildly sexual scene that has very little description. You can skip them if you want. I wrote this while at my family's home for Christmas, holed up in my bedroom lol. MalexMale relationships, beware.

Also, there is quite a bit of child abuse in this. A lot. It's from Shoto's point of view, but I just made his childhood worse. Spoilers for Dabi's past, but I'm sure everyone knows who he really is by now.

Enjoy~

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" Endeavor raged at his seven year old, youngest child while he was laying a hospital bed, IV bags in both inner elbows. There was also a metal jug full of blood next to his bed. He unconsciously pulled the blankets up to his chin, worried that Endeavor would get physical with nobody there to witness.

Touya had gone to the cafeteria to get some food for himself. He was the one to stay over when mom had to go home to keep an eye on the other two. They were all worried about him, but the doctor and specialist said only a few people should be let inside while the attack was still fresh. So Touya offered to visit the most often. Endeavor hadn't come before, yet he walked in and started screaming at Shoto.

He wished he had another blanket, literally feeling the heat coming off of his angry father and abuser. He'd never been able to feel that, but he was aware of more things now than he was before. When it was cold, he shivered, when it was hot, he sweat. It didn't seem to matter he had a quirk of both ice and fire, the temperature still affected him.

Honestly, he had no idea what to say, and did his best not to cry. Crying in front of Endeavor got scolding and threats. Shoto was surprised his father would get into a rage fit in public. Sure, he wasn't on duty and this was an isolated room, but if he got caught, it might look bad for him. And he didn't like things looking bad for him.

Still, Shoto didn't reply, and just wanted him to leave. At least he didn't smell like the nurses did. He smelled bad, in a way the boy couldn't identify. Not like a rotten smell or anything conventionally bad. He just wouldn't be able to describe it if he even tried. "Answer me! How did this happen?!"

Hadn't his other family told him about it? Shoto would much rather not be the one to have this conversation. He was about to try to explain the attack, what he remembered, but then Touya walked in with a tray of food. He saw Endeavor and his eyes narrowed in distaste. He hated the man with a passion.

"What are you doing here?" he asked in disgust, like Endeavor was an eyesore, something awful to look at. "Don't you know you're supposed to be quiet and calm?" he snapped. It was true, Shoto's senses were now heightened and bordering painful. And angry or excited people had their hearts pump faster, which made them smell stronger. Touya and the other three were understanding about it, when they visited. And when his mom talked on the phone with him, she always had a soft voice, sounding calm.

Shoto assumed she was being hurt at home because of what happened to him, even though it was nobodies fault. Nobody should be blamed for it. Shoto was young, but he knew that it was irrational to point a finger at anyone, let alone his family. And the one who attacked him was dead.

In fact, he was dead because Shoto's quirk activated and burnt him alive. He was unconscious at that time, so he couldn't hear the man's screams. But others did, and found Shoto in his condition. Bloody cuts and marks everywhere, and looking deathly pale and feeling cold. It had been in the ambulance when he woke up, and was restrained to the bed.

It had been terrifying, and his throat burnt worse than any fire. They'd given him a juice box, and he hadn't known what was in it until he was told, and then he started to cry. He was glad none of his family had seen him that way. He didn't want to worry them or seem weak. Or incur Endeavor's disgust on a weak emotion.

"Be silent, Touya," Endeavor said in a threatening voice. The teen walked to the wall and pressed the nurse's button, never breaking eye contact. A nurse came in, one specializing in Shoto's unfortunate situation. She was the one that gave him the type of blood he said tasted best. Went out of her way to help make him more comfortable.

"Is there a problem?" she asked pleasantly, looking at Endeavor as if she knew what he'd been doing.

"Endeavor is harassing Shoto and yelling at him even though he knows stimulus is bad right now," Touya explained, still glaring at the pro hero who didn't deserve to be a hero. Shoto knew this from watching All Might videos. Not all heroes were mean like he was. Some were very nice. So he didn't understand why his father was ranked so high when he was mean.

Before the nurse could give the man an order, he left without a word to his youngest and oldest sons. Shoto brought his legs to his chest and hid his face in his arms propped on his knees. "Don't worry, I won't let him mess with you," Touya promised. "Do you want any snacks? I brought some vending machine crap. You'll get to eat something sweet for once." Shoto wasn't allowed sweets because anything unhealthy was bad. Very bad. But he knew others ate it and it was yummy.

But he was unsure, not knowing if he could handle it or if it tasted good. "You could dip it in blood."

"I don't want anyone seeing it…" Shoto said honestly, quietly. "It's gross and creepy." Touya sighed, but not in annoyance or irritation at his brother's words. He really didn't want anyone seeing it, because it looked very wrong and disconcerting. Even if his mom and brother weren't bothered. They didn't seem bothered, at least.

Both were understanding and tried to help him. That's why he had a metal jug, so nobody could see it like he wanted. "It's not gross or creepy. It just is what it is. There's no changing it, and no point of wishing it would. It's not gonna," the fifteen year old said bluntly. Painfully honestly. Shoto looked at the jug, and hunched his shoulders more.

"It doesn't… bother you, Touya?" Shoto asked, his voice meek, afraid and quiet. He was expecting a bad answer. There was no good answer to that. Nobody would think it was anything but bad. Even if it made Shoto feel better after drinking. It was thick, like a sort of watered down smoothie, and it didn't taste bad.

But what was bad was knowing what it was. "I mean, I don't like you have to do it, but I don't think it's bad. Consider it like a medication. You have to take it to be healthy, right? If you need it, there's no one that should change your decision. Plus, it would keep everyone else safer." The big brother's voice was very soft when he said that. When he reminded Shoto that he could become violent if he didn't have enough.

Hearing this again, he brought his head up and reached for the jug. He opened it, and Touya handed him a little empty jello cup. Shoto poured a bit inside, his stomach cramping at the sight of the blood. Touya handed him the chocolate bar, and Shoto dipped it inside. He wanted to hide what he was doing, but Touya wasn't watching, was looking at his own food.

He ate the candy bar, and it tasted really good. He couldn't tell which was better, the blood or candy. Shoto then drank the cup of blood, and wanted to get rid of it. Touya reached out a hand, and easily used his fire to destroy it. His flames were so hot it was vaporized, and no smell came from it. It didn't melt like it would under Shoto's flames.

"Wanna play cards?" Touya asked. "I sneaked some from the gift shop."

"You stole?"

"It was for a good cause. And it wasn't like I was given money for anything but food," the older said with a smirk. He and Shoto played cards then, on the little bedside table that could move with wheels on it. Touya returned the tray and other things he ate from after Shoto fell asleep when the sun was coming up outside.

"Shoto!" Fuyumi called, running forward to hug him. The smell of new blood assaulted him, and he backed away. Touya noticed and put a hand on his shoulder. Tightly, as if showing he could restrain him as he was now. The disrespectful word to use for the very rare people who were turned was "newborn". The more proper was called "neonate". It meant the same thing but it was considered more proper.

Fuyumi walked up to him slowly, with a smile. When she hugged Shoto, he couldn't help but breathe in deeply, and his pupils were blown wide. He wanted to bite, but he didn't. He was conditioned so far to not do that, and would continue his lessons on how to function now. It was night time right now, and everyone but Endeavor were there to see him again.

Endeavor wasn't present when his newly defiled child got home. Not that anyone was surprised. And Shoto didn't want him there. So, Shoto pulled away first, glad it was hard to see his eyes in the dark. They were a red, but not vibrant. More like a reddish brown tint, so not totally obvious he was a vampire at first glance.

The teeth were only a tiny bit pointy. They weren't long or noticeable, which was good. "How are you feeling?" she asked. Then Natsuo and mom came out, but neither hugged Shoto. Either because they were scared or they knew better to make him uncomfortable. Shoto didn't want to talk about his cramping stomach or burning throat, so all he replied was that it was cold outside. "Then let's hurry inside!" Fuymui said, and they all headed into the house. But with paper walls, it was still cold. Even putting on a parka, it was still chilly.

So, his mom immediately ordered a few electric fireplaces to put in the rooms Shoto went into. When they got inside, Touya told him, "Good job." It was simple, but kind and considerate. He'd noticed the reaction probably. Shoto was so lucky to have him. For a long time, Touya acted like he disliked the young boy, but it had faded over time.

It was only once he was attacked and different that Touya started to show a lot of care. Shoto hoped it would last, because it was wonderful having his oldest brother care for him enough to miss school for him. Though he never liked going anyways. Shoto was out of school for the rest of the year, which was only over a month until the school year ended.

After Touya left to put his things away and take a shower, Shoto went downstairs, and peeked around the corner at his mother. "Mom… are you scared of me?" he asked, surprising her since he'd been quiet in his socks, not the slippers that made scuffing sounds on the wooden floor. She turned around with a kettle on the stove for some tea, and walked to him.

Crouching down, since Shoto was small for his age, she took both of his shoulders gently. "I am not frightened. You're my boy, I could never be scared of you."

"What if I bite someone? Then will you be scared?"

"You can't transfer it to others with a bite, so you don't need to worry about that. And you're still in training to help you, right? If you did bite, it may be a bit scary for a small amount of time, but it would pass, and we'd still love you very much," his mother said sincerely, her voice a bit serious. The vampire teared up, and started to cry, gushing out apologies.

She hugged him, and again he reacted the same way, but didn't hurt her. He would never hurt his family. He would try not to, at least. "It's not your fault. All that happened was that you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. We all got separated, it wasn't only you, honey," she said. "Nobody should blame you."

"Dad does. He asked me why it happened, and he blamed me. I don't wanna see him or do the training anymore!" he said, voice a shout at the end, full of desperation. His mother smiled sadly at him, but spoke honestly. Shoto was glad she didn't lie to him, it seemed. So far she'd been very upfront with her feelings and thoughts.

"Well, perhaps this incident will turn him off from training you. Maybe he'll sort of give up. And you can spend more time with your siblings and not be hurt anymore," she said. Shoto was not upset that he'd be deemed a useless failure, like his siblings before him. Maybe he could hang out and play with them.

And maybe he wouldn't be hit anymore. "I wanna be a hero though. Not like dad. Can I still be one?" Shoto asked, voice tinted with desperation.

"You can be whatever you want to be. By the time you're old enough to consider the hero profession, it will have been seven years. By then, it won't be a problem anymore. And you'll just wear the special sunscreen when outside during the day. It might not seem that way, but you will get accommodations for this. Like someone who was hurt or sick, they would get accommodations, too."

"I'm sick?"

"In a way," she said, now being careful with her words. "But it's a sickness you can't pass on, and shouldn't affect your daily life much. Think of it as something like diabetes. It's a serious illness, but only if you don't take precautions. They can live perfectly normal lives." Shoto didn't really think that was the same thing.

Sick people weren't shamed or feared for being sick. Shoto had already met people in the hospital that purposely went the long way, or walked past him quickly without making eye contact. It hurt, but Touya said he'd have to "get used to it, because people are assholes". And he hadn't been wrong so far.

Well, not everyone had been bad. There was the nurse, and the first responders. Shoto's stomach rumbled, and his mother went back into the kitchen and made something with blood in it. Watching her with wide eyes and pursed lips, he saw her put on gloves to cook, and not look bothered at all. "Are you making food for me?" Shoto asked curiously.

"Of course. I looked up recipes that include blood, and most aren't that hard to work with. I'm wearing gloves just for a precaution." She cooked him soup, the chicken marinated in blood. He ate it, scarfing it down, as it was delicious. He beamed and happily thanked her, hugging his very understanding mother.

His sleep schedule was a bit messed up, and so he was still awake when Endeavor came home from work. Shoto locked his bedroom door, and hid under the blankets. He didn't want to be yelled at or hit. What would happen if he got aggressive? Would he try and hurt him, and get in trouble? And what would cause him to become aggressive?

Shoto didn't think of himself as someone who got angry easily. He did cry a lot, but it seemed that was a family thing since Touya had always cried a lot, too, even if he hated it. The newly turned vampire could hear Endeavor from the first floor training room. He eventually went to bed. His mom didn't sleep in the same room anymore. She was in the guest bedroom beside Fuyumi's.

During the night, when everyone was asleep, he went downstairs and got a small cup of blood. He didn't look at it, and threw the disposable cup away, and then went to the upstairs bathroom to gargle some water to get the blood out of his mouth, even if it did taste good. He fell asleep when the sun rose, his window closed and curtains down.

When he woke, it was to the sun sinking. He sat up and rubbed his eyes and yawned. Standing up, he got dressed in new clothes, and went downstairs. Everyone else was at school, so it was just his mom. Endeavor was in the training room. Shoto hoped he never saw it again. At least, not in the same way.

Not being hit and all in the form of training or punishment for being bad at said training. "Hi, honey. Are you hungry?"

"Mm. My throat hurts."

"I'll get you something special." Shoto was overjoyed when he got a mug of hot chocolate with some blood in it and marshmallows. "I had grandma go and get some chocolate. I think you deserve it." He smiled and gladly sipped the drink. He shivered, and mom got him the throw blanket off of the couch, wrapping at around his shoulders lovingly.

"Don't feed him crap like that," his father said in an irritated voice.

"He deserves it after everything," she said, actually standing up for Shoto, which was odd. Usually she protested for things like the rough training, but never really pushed. Shoto knew she was scared of her husband. At least the kids loved her. Besides Touya. He didn't like her, or Endeavor.

He only loved his siblings. Mostly Natsuo. Endeavor glared down at his wife, and she clenched her hands, uncomfortable. He glared down at Shoto like he was an eyesore, and then left the room, and then the house to go somewhere. The boy didn't care where. "Now, finish and then get ready to leave. We have the training tonight."

She was going with Shoto to learn better how to help him with his new issue. He dressed in warmer clothes, and the two headed to the big garage. He sat in the car seat in the back, and they drove to the rehab place. The city lights were bright, and the sky was dark by now. The other three would get home on their own, easily being able to walk from their afterschool activities.

Was the night time all Shoto would see again? "Mom, when can I go out in the sun?" the boy asked. "I don't wanna be stuck only at night, but I get sleepy when it comes up," he explained. Mom glanced in the mirror, with Shoto making eye contact in the reflection.

"Well, you'll need special sunscreen. I'm not sure how to help after that, but that's why I'm going through some lessons as well."

Shoto said, "You're a good mom." He didn't notice the complete look of shame and guilt on her face when he said it. He was looking out at the city lights instead. When the smell got too strong for his comfort, he rolled down the window and put his head near it, breathing in the outside air, not the enclosed space.

When they got to the building, there were a lot of street lamps on but next to no cars. Maybe people were only there during the day. They both headed inside, Shoto holding her warm hand, and went to the front desk, where there was someone working. The vampire boy could hear people in the building, so it wasn't deserted despite the lack of cars.

He didn't think the interior was too bad. It wasn't white walls and white tile. The floor was wooden and the walls were a light blue. It looked comfortable, and not like a hospital. "Well, Shoto, Rei, you'll both be in the same training for now. After a few lessons, Shoto will branch out to go on his own. There's more for him to learn than you," the receptionist said, sounding happy.

The mother and son followed her inside. This time was more lessons on what to do to make Shoto accommodated.

"A low energy and quiet home will be best for him to adapt to the changes. For the first few months, his sense of sound and smell will be heightened. Sour or spicy food scents may make him feel sick, and too much noise could possibly rupture his eardrums." Shoto looked to his mom about the noises, knowing his home wasn't a quiet place. Touya and Endeavor shouted a lot.

He felt Touya would try and be more quiet, but he wasn't sure about their father. "Are sweet foods alright? He has had some chocolate since being turned."

"Sweet foods are fine. They're even encouraged. Mixing blood with foods are the only ways it will taste good in the beginning. Adjusting with sweets is a good first step, mixing the taste of something as strong as sugar will ease him into other more neutral tasting foods." The mother was taking notes on a notepad.

Well, maybe Endeavor wouldn't get angry about it if it was good to help him. Shoto listened closely, but was glad his mom was taking notes in case he forgot about anything. He was asked a question that made him uncomfortable to answer in front of Rei. "Have you had any reactions, yet? Maybe someone got too close and made you uncomfortable?"

The boy looked up nervously at Rei, but his mom was giving him an encouraging look, and he turned his gaze back to the worker. She looked like a doctor, only she had pink patterned scrubs, unlike anyone from the hospital who'd helped him out right after. "Yeah. When my sister hugged me… But I didn't do anything," he added in a hurried voice. His mom didn't look upset or anything, just took some more notes.

"That's normal, and will happen many times. You shouldn't feel wrong for it. It's also likely your mouth will be uncomfortable, like when a baby is teething with their first teeth growing in. For most of those who come here, we suggest a mouthpiece used by professional athletes alleviate some of the discomfort." Shoto didn't like hearing he'd be in pain. This sucked so much, he wanted to be normal again!

There was some more time explaining things, but Shoto found himself getting increasingly uncomfortable. "I wanna go home, now, I don't feel good." So they left, the woman, Tami, being very understanding and just giving him a mouth piece in an unopened bag, and something called "blood powder" which could mix into drinks easier than adding blood and stirring it around. It was fast and easy since he could carry it around in his pocket.

So he was happy to get new things, but was also happy to go home. Everyone was already there, with Fuyumi cooking dinner. She was good at it when their mom was hurt or upset. Shoto put his things in his room, and Touya wondered how things had gone. "We learned a lot of new things today," Rei said. "I've written it down to brief you all on it."

She sounded happy. "I'm sorry, everyone," Shoto said quietly.

Touya stood up and walked over. "It's not your fault," he insisted. "You didn't ask for this to happen." The boy knew that, but he just felt like a burden and inconvenience. Rei got her phone out, and ordered bulk of the extreme sunscreen he needed. Endeavor got home early, and Shoto didn't know how he'd react to all the accommodations that would be best for his first few months of this new body.

Because it was, it wasn't his body anymore. Not human. It was awful, knowing that. It wasn't like mutant quirks, where they just looked nonhuman, Shoto actually was. Everyone called it some sickness - when they were being nice about it - but it didn't change the fact that he wasn't the same anymore.

So, Rei gave him a copied list of everything they'd learned that night. "Since you're his father, you should know these things, too," she said. The kids waited with bated breath, as Endeavor read the list. It was two pages with Rei's small handwriting.

When he was done reading, Endeavor looked up at Shoto angrily. Though he always looked angry and bitter. "It says you can still use your quirk."

"Well, yes, but he needs to learn how to deal with this before practicing his quirk," Rei insisted, but was smacked for back talking. Shoto's pupils widened so much they took up his whole iris, and he was grabbed by Touya quickly and restrained, kicking and screaming about dad not hurting mom.

He was strong enough to yank Touya off his feet, but then was pinned down. Rei hurried over and sat in front of him on her knees. "I'm okay, honey," she said, but her voice was shaking and she'd teared up from the strike. Endeavor just watched with disgust and left them. Shoto eventually tired himself out and just laid there, limp on his stomach.

Touya pulled away, not needing to restrain him anymore. "Touya, honey, please get some blood." He did as she said, and came back with a blood bottle, which could be bought in packs like a pack of beer or soda. Shoto sat up, and started to cry and sob. He had lost control, and it felt awful.

In the back of his head, he'd been yelling at himself to stay calm, but it hadn't worked. He didn't want to drink, but did anyways. Rei hugged him, petting his hair softly. "I can take more than a little slap, honey. But thank you for wanting to defend me. But attacking him will only make things worse."

Behind her, Touya looked disgusted by her words. He gave Shoto a sad smile, showing he forgave him, and then left the room. He didn't come down for dinner. It was nice that Endeavor rarely joined them. Rei was shaken the rest of the night, and Shoto wished he wasn't making things worse for everyone.

Shoto was in a terrible mood the rest of the night. Since he had now officially gotten used to his different sleep schedule, he was alone much of the night. When everyone was asleep, he went outside to the large backyard, and played with his ice. He didn't want to use his fire. He never had. It was always on Endeavor's face, and Shoto had to see it every day. Fire just reminded him of his abusive father. He didn't care about surpassing All Might like Endeavor shouted about all the time.

Shoto didn't want to focus on his future right now. At least, not far into it. He just wanted to get used to his new life. He tried making shapes out of his ice, but all that came were chunks of uneven shapes. He couldn't make any figures. When he gave up on that, he went to the back shed and got a pick axe that was old and rusted, and started trying to sculpt something.

It only resulted in more broken ice. He headed to the koi pond and sat at the edge for a bit, knees to his chest as he watched the fish swim around their very nice and expensive habitat. It hurt that his father was more willing to accommodate fish than he was Shoto. Maybe because the fish were pretty and Shoto was now some ugly monster.

And he'd proven that he was one by attempting to do something to protect his mother or take revenge afterwards. How… how would he handle it from now on? He could hear better now, and would be able to hear if he was beating her. He couldn't go berserk every time someone was beaten.

Mom said it was fine. Shoto didn't really think the same.
