"You said we needed a Mage. So I found one."
"I said. Our Party needed a Healer."
"I mean, he's kind of like a Healer?"
"He's a Necromancer."
"He can heal Undead."
Two young men stood outside the Adventurers Guild. The evening light was fading behind the medieval wooden, tiled, and thatch rooftops. In another world they would've been called teenagers but not in this one. From the age you could Level, you became an adult in the eyes of everyone.
A slightly older male who would've been called an adult in another world gave the ill tempered blonde with the axe a sheepish look. "Actually, I don't know any Repair Undead spells."
The blonde, Katsuki Bakugo huffed and glared red daggers at the stranger. "So what good are you then?"
"Well. I did say he was a Necromancer, Kaachan." Izuku Midoriya fidgeted with the sword sheathed at his waist. "He could be useful."
Bakugo stared expectantly at the stranger.
The stranger with light hair and red eyes scratched at his bare arm. The stranger wore a dark cloak full of ripped holes and a very distinct smell hung around him like an aura. "Well. You see. I can cast Detect Life, Instigate Low Level Fear, Common Plague, and Hidden Darkness. Aside from what spells my class has given me through Levels."
"I don't know any of those!" Bakugo growled. "Just tell us your Level?"
"My Level?" The stranger was hesitant.
Izuku took one step in front of the stranger. "Kaachan, that isn't necessary. We aren't-"
"Shut it, Deku!" Bakugo interrupted Izuku. "I want to know that this guy isn't going to be a liability in battle. The last thing we need is for our Party Formation to fail in a fight because of some low Level loser sandbagging us!"
"That's mean, Kaachan," said Izuku.
"It's the fucking truth!" Bakugo yelled back at Izuku. "We needed a Healer. A Mage with some decent combat spells would've been okay. But a fucking Necromancer? Deku! Necromancers are evil!"
"This one isn't," Izuku said in defense of the stranger. Izuku turned and gave the stranger a questioning look. "Are you?"
The stranger was still scratching his arms. "I. I don't think so."
"Have you ever reanimated a corpse to kill someone you didn't like?" Bakugo questioned.
"No."
"Have you ever had thoughts about amassing a large army of Undead to kill all life?"
"N-no."
Bakugo narrowed his eyes. "Have you ever killed someone?"
"Kaachan! That's enough!" Izuku took another step and was now blocking the stranger from Bakugo's view entirely. "He said he wasn't evil. That's good enough for me. And he actually wants to join our party, that should be good enough for you."
Bakugo bared his teeth. "It isn't. I want to know his Level."
"Kaachan, that's-"
"It-its fine, Deku." The stranger put one hand on Izuku's shoulder. Both Bakugo and Izuku jumped at the strangers' use of Bakugo's nickname for Izuku. "My name is Tenko Shimura and I am currently a Level Five Necromancer."
Izuku's jaw dropped.
Bakugo closed his red eyes and exhaled. "Level Five."
Shimura nodded. "That's right."
Izuku turned to look at Tenko Shimura. This guy was Level Five? That was… "Incredible."
Shimura stopped scratching and shrugged his shoulders. "Not really. I've been around, traveling at night draws out the monsters. But you two already knew that."
Izuku and Bakugo did know that. From a young age it was instilled upon the young the values and dangers of the world. How not to leave the safety of the lantern lit village at night. For in the darkness the monsters hunted. Those brave enough to fight back against the monsters, against evil could gain their first Levels in a combat class. Those with a more academic mind might find their first Levels in research. And how even the mundane could eventually Level through tradecraft, though they Leveled slower than the combat and academic classes and they could not Level passed Twenty. While the combat and academic classes could reach a theorized Level Forty. Though there have been no records of anyone ever actually reaching Level Forty. Some have come close, like the Might Knight Toshinori Yagi who was rumored to be around Level Thirty.
For Tenko Shimura to already be at Level Five was a bit shocking to both Izuku and Bakugo. For one, not even they were Level Five. Second, Shimura didn't seem like a Level Five. From the way he acted demurely, dressed in old rags, and smelled like a rotting corpse.
"What Level are you guys?" Shimura asked.
"Level Three and Two," Izuku answered before Bakugo could stop him. "He's a Barbarian and I'm a Swordsman."
"Deku!" Bakugo all but shouted at Izuku.
Shimura blinked. "Only Level Three and Two? But I thought I overheard you guys turning in that bounty for the Gargoyle that attacked Kamino?"
Izuku nodded. "Yeah, that was us."
"You were eavesdropping on us?" Bakugo was irate. "Just what the hell are you up to? Fucking Necromancer!"
"Easy, Kaachan. Easy." Izuku waved at Bakugo before eying Shimura. "You were spying on us? Why?"
Shimura pulled his dark cloak over his head. "You already know why. I wanted to join a group of Adventurers. So I put a Listening spell on you guys right as you walked into the Guild. I put a spell on everyone who came in this evening."
"But why us? Was it because we seemed the least intimidating? Huh? You think we're weak?"
"What? No!" Shimura shook his head and scratched at his neck. It must have been a nervous habit, his scratching. It looked like he was pulling up skin beneath his fingernails. "You guys are anything but weak! A Level Three Barbarian and a Level Two Swordsman, slaying a Gargoyle? That's unheard of."
Shimura's praise appeared to mollify Kaachan a bit. "Yeah? Well, don't you dare underestimate us."
"I never said I did. Gargoyle's are typically a Party Level Seven Threat. You guys must be really good Adventurers. But then… why are you only Level Three and Two?"
Kaachan was quiet. "It's because we just started."
"Wait. You mean that you guys… your first Adventurers Guild Quest was to slay a Gargoyle?"
"Second," said Bakugo. "Deku here wanted us to start off easy. Some old lady's cat was stuck in a tree."
Shimura blinked. "That was a Quest from the Adventurers Guild?"
"Duh. The Adventurers Guild accepts all kinds of requests as long as they get a cut of the reward."
"I didn't know that."
"Some spy you are."
"Don't be mean, Kaachan."
Bakugo snarled. "Don't call me that! My name's Katsuki Bakugo. Don't you forget it or I'll murder it into you!"
Shimura shrunk a little. "But I thought that-"
"That's just what Deku calls me. He's an idiot. Don't listen to him."
Izuku's brows had been furrowed for some time. Finally, Izuku's green eyes met with Shimura's red. "You know a Listening Spell?"
"It's only a spell of Light Listening." Shimura was still scratching his neck.
"Some of your spells sound like skills a Rogue would have. And you are a Necromancer. That's a really versatile class. With Detect Life… that would make Dungeons so effortless."
Bakugo snorted. "Unless we're dealing with a Dungeon crawling with Undead. Detect Life, Deku. Not Detect Death. Odd spell for a Necromancer. But I suppose a Necromancer needs to know where a good stock of potential Undead is."
Shimura stopped scratching his neck and he finally glared back at Bakugo. "I wouldn't do that."
"Oh? Then I suppose all the stories we've heard growing up about Necromancers aren't true? Isn't that right, Deku?"
Izuku looked down at his feet. Bakugo was right. As a growing child and even as an adult, you hear stories everywhere about evil Necromancers. A class that gave someone the ability to control Undead people and monsters. And every single one of those stories told the tale of a Necromancer with an overwhelming vendetta against the living.
But…
Izuku observed Tenko Shimura, the first Necromancer Bakugo and him had ever met. He was poor. He looked homeless. He smelled terribly. His hair, Izuku remembered how greasy it looked before Shimura had covered it up with his filthy cloak.
Tenko Shimura had been the one to approach Izuku. To ask if he could join their Party when no one else wanted to.
Izuku remembered Tenko Shimura's nervous smile.
"My name is Izuku Midoriya," Izuku extended a hand outwards. "I would be honored to bestow upon you an invitation to our Party."
Bakugo froze. "Now, wait just a minute, Deku!"
Shimura took Izuku's hand. "I am honored to be accepted amongst your Party."
A faint glow grew around the two young men. It was like an ovrsiezed firefly minus the bug. Then it was over. And the three felt something change in the air around them. Izuku Midoriya and Tenko Shimura had spoken the words and they could not be taken back, not without a majority vote. The world knew this and accepted it. A binding contract. Izuku and Bakugo's Party had grown by one and that would change everything.
"So?" Shimura looked uncomfortable after letting go of Izuku's hand. "What now?"
Bakugo looked furious. "Now? Now we go out and find even stronger monsters to murder! Because now we have a fucking Necromancer in our Party Formation. Now, it'll take even longer for us to grow stronger. And we don't even have a fucking Healer yet which is what I wanted to be-fucking-gin with, stupid Deku!"
Izuku took one hand and swept the spit from his face. "Well then. That's what we'll do."
"What?"
"We'll fight even stronger monsters."
"What?"
"Because we now have a Necromancer."
"Fuck you."
"A Necromancer with reconnaissance spells. And a Necromancer that can fight?"
Shimura nodded meekly. He wasn't used to Bakugo's outbursts. If he remained apart of their Party then he would get used to Bakugo and his behaviors soon enough. "I. I know Death Ray and Bone Creation."
"Bone Creation?" Izuku asked. That was a curious spell. If it did what was implied, the possibilities…
"It's a spell that consumes a lot of mana. I can't perform it too often and I can't make very much. I have learned how to make daggers and arrows of bone. Not that I know how to use either properly. However there is always a market for weapons, that's how I've been getting by."
"Have you ever tried firing a bone arrow or dagger with magic?"
Shimura shook his head. "I don't know the Telekinesis spell. And besides. I don't think I'd have enough mana to switch between the two spells in combat, even if I knew Telekinesis."
"But why do you need Telekinesis to shoot bone creations? It's magic. I've seen Pyromancers cast Fireball without Telekinesis."
Shimura straightened his shoulders and stood tall. Taller than either Bakugo or Izuku. "Well. To put it in simple terms any non academic class might understand. Bones are material. Fire, water, earth, and sky magics are elemental. Healing is immaterial. Can you put a sword in a bow and fire it like a well made arrow? No, the blade would damage the string and you'd be left with a mess. Magic is not fucking simple. Magic is not equations and science. Magic is magic."
Bakugo shook his head. "Spoken like a true Mage. Fucking figures we'd get lumped with a useless Necromancer."
"What about a shield?" Izuku spoke up.
"A shield?" Shimura frowned.
Izuku nodded. "Yeah. A bone shield. Or maybe bone armor? Are your creations permanent or is their a summoning timer? I know Summoner's have a limited amount of time with their summons so I didn't know if that was the same with your Bone Creation."
"No, they are permanent. Otherwise I'd be chased out of every town I've ever sold bone arrows and daggers too." He scratched at his head. "Never thought about making armor."
"Could you do it?"
"Well yeah. But, it's not as easy as you'd think."
Bakugo harrumphed.
"We'll, you'll never know unless you try." Izuku beamed at Shimura.
"God fucking damn it." Bakugo sighed. He pointed at Shimura. "Fuck you." He pointed at Izuku. "And fuck you."
"So that's settled then." Izuku was still smiling.
"Wait so, that's it?" Shimura asked.
"Yep," Izuku said. "Welcome to the team."
"Fucking figures," Bakugo grumbled. "Not a Healer and not even a proper Mage. But a fucking dead body fucker."
Shimura looked appalled. "Ew, that's fucked! Take that back!"
"Make me!"
Izuku grabbed Bakugo and Shimura by the arm and pulled them away from the Adventurers Guild. All the while the two bickered behind him. A Barbarian, a Swordsman, and a Necromancer. Off to slay the beast in the Emerald Mountains.
This was another step forward to becoming recognized across the Musutsfu Kingdom as Heroes. Just like the Might Knight.
This was going to be epic.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: So I was working on the latest chapter for Izuku: Restarting From Zero when this came to me. It's a bit of an experiment to test my on the fly writing with little to no plan whatsoever for the plot.
This was originally going to be a RWBY fic but I changed my mind when I sat down to actually write. Oh well, what can you do. Now this is a My Hero Academia fic. The next chapter for Izuku: Restarting From Zero will be finished in the next couple of days. Thanks for reading!
