Author's Notes: I wrote this originally on one of my older accounts, but I lost it when I couldn't get into the account. Then one day I randomly found it while I thought about it. So I am working on it again and hopefully this time I can finish it. Enjoy!
Chapter One: Giving Her Up
Minerva McGonagall was pacing back and forth in her husband Albus Dumbledore's office.
"We can't! We just can't give her up, Albus. I won't allow it!" McGonagall yelled as she angrily paced back and forth.
"Minerva, my love. Please calm down." Dumbledore said. He hoped his wife's yelling wouldn't wake the sleeping baby upstairs.
McGonagall only paused her pacing to look at her husband who was leaning against his desk.
"How can I calm down? My husband wants to give up his only daughter!" McGonagall exclaimed.
McGonagall began her pacing again. Dumbledore just sighed. He walked over to his wife to pull her into a hug. McGonagall cried softly in the arms of her husband.
"Please don't make me let her go." McGonagall whispered.
Dumbledore placed a kiss on top of Mcgonagall's head. "We have no choice, my dear. We need to protect her."
"I can't."
"Shh.."
Dumbledore held her for a few minutes longer.
"I am sorry to interrupt, Albus, but Hermione is crying." One of the portrait's said.
McGonagall took a deep breath. She moved out of the Headmaster's arms to go tend to the crying infant.
"Will she be alright?" Snape asked at the entrance of the office.
"I hope so, Severus. A mother's love is quite powerful." Dumbledore said, turning his attention to the Potions Master.
Snape nodded his head once. He knew all about a mother's love. He lost the love of his life because of it.
Dumbledore walked into their baby girl's room. McGonagall was singing a Scottish lullaby as she rocked Hermione in the rocking chair. Hermione was giggling as she listened to her mother. She was trying to get her to fall back asleep.
This was the last thing he wanted. He had to keep her safe though. And hiding her true identity amongst the muggle borns was the best thing for them. Thankfully a Muggle family he knew was willing to take her in.
"I don't want to lose her, Albus. She means too much to me." McGonagall said.
"We aren't going to lose her. It is just till this ordeal with Voldemort is over with, my lovely wife." Dumbledore said.
McGonagall raised her head to look into her husband's darling blue eyes. "You promise?"
Dumbledore smiled and nodded his head.
Dumbledore stood outside the Granger home. He used his deluminator to dim all of the street lights. McGonagall came out of the shadows. She held their bundle of joy in her arms. Dumbledore allowed McGonagall to place a kiss on the baby's forehead.
He then took her from his wife to place her on the doorstep. He also placed a letter on top of her.
"Good luck Hermione Ariana Dumbledore." Dumbledore said.
