The last thing Jesse could remember was being dragged up the stairs, as his chest grew warm and his surrounding faded to blurred then black.
Next thing he new was waking up in near darkness with a repetitive beeping sound to the left of him, that would play every few seconds. He felt short of breath and numb save for this acheing feeling in his lower right abdomen.
It was then the door creaked open as the sound of two people shuffled through it.
Silence filled the room as Walter stared at Jesse. This wasn't the first or even second time he had seen Jesse lay bruised and bloody in a hospital bed, but it was by far the worse. The young man was straped to an IV and was covered in bruises and swelling, mostly across the face, notably at his two swollen shut, red eyes.
"Is he, uh, awake?" The concerned voice of Walter inquired, clearly in a uncomfortable tone.
"Yea retard, he is" Jesse interrupted in a croaky, pissed off voice whilst trying to hoist himself up from lying flat on the bed, but instead collapsed back down, causing him to have a coughing fit.
The nurse was about to intervene when he finally stopped. "please don't try and move that much Mr Pinkman!" she said in a startled but firm voice.
Mr White watched in horror, not sure weather to be relieved or shocked at the boys condition.
"I brought a visitor for you in here with me if that's all right"
"Mr white, right?" Jesse croaked, whilst making a bleak face.
"That's correct, he's been waiting a rather long ti-"
"Could you give us sometime to talk?" Walter interrupted
"Well I actually have a few things I still need to go over with Pinkman" she paused to look up at Walter, but haven seen the concerned look on his face she had a change of heart "-But if its alright with Mr Pinkman, I could possibly give you a few minutes to talk alone?" She continued.
'I guess...' was all Jesse had to say to that, and with that said the nurse ducked out the door. Walter stood silently, listening as the nurse made her way down the corridor.
"Jesse, have they asked anything about what happened and how-" Walter said skipping straight to the concern.
"Not even gonna ask how I'm doing, and pretend to pity me?" He sighed in spite at his old friend.
"I'm sorry" Walter apologized, which was unusual for him to do. Seeing him blind, bruised and beaten up must really have actually pained Walter to see, Jesse thought to himself. "and your... condition, how is it?"
"I don't really remember the exact words the Doctors used, but something about being stabbed in the stomach and haven my ribs busted up"
Walter caught his breath just then looking the boy up and down for his battle scars "what about your eyes? They look... a little impaired"
"Oh shit they do?!" Jesse said semi sarcastically "the nurse said I have a black eye and non permanent retina damage. oh and its noticeable so I hear" he retorted in the same torpid tone.
the room filled with silence, only being elevated by the beeping of Jesses cardiac monitor. Hearing Jesse honest retelling of his injuries wrenched Walter to the core, even though he acted unphased by it. He could see how fed up Jesse was becoming constantly being beaten down whilst Mr white got away clean yet again. Walter tried to think of anything to say in this situation and fill the void of silence and growing tension, but he couldn't muster up anything to say in time.
"...No they didn't ask, to answer your question. I don't remember much from before Gus' men kidnapped me anyway, so I wouldn't be much help. Apparently brocks ok though " he said before stretching his arms out in the air. Jesse turned to look in the rough direction of Mr white "is that all you came here to find out?
"I suppose I should bring you up to speed then" Walter avowed "Gus is dead".
"How, how did you-" just as he began to unravel his current situation a nurse knocked the door.
"I'm sorry Mr White I'm going to have to ask you to leave" the nurse insisted.
"Whys that?" Jesse asked, having a paranoid feeling growing.
"I have two DEA men waiting in reception wanting to talk to you as soon as possible-"
The look of dread dawned both the men's faces, realising even with Gus' death they hadn't yet escaped with their freedom. "Thankyou for coming by Mr white" Jesse disgruntledly obliged, knowing Walter had to leave before the DEA saw him.
The message was clear and unspoken to Walter from Jesse. "Well I suppose I should be leaving then" he said whilst reluctantly stepping outside "I'll see you later then Jesse" he stated.
"yea maybe?" the uncertain Jesse responded whilst the door creaked shut.
On the other side of the door Walter malcontently shuffled through his pockets trying to find his burner flip phone. The phone rang for barely a few seconds before being picked up "hey its Walter, how soon will you be able to get down to the Lovelace medical centre?"
Sorry chapter 1 was a little uneventful but I had to set an environment, promise the plot and angst is better here on out.
