After Klaus and Elijah kill themselves with the white oak, Klaus finds himself alone, in the darkness, he recalls questioning his brother, "What if there is nothing after this brother, just darkness" and his noble brother, reassuring him "We face it together brother"
But now, its him and only him in the darkness, 'You lied to me brother, you said that you will be there with me, always and forever, and now you've left." He walks in the utter darkness, aimlessly, hoping to get a scent or a hint of where his noble brother has went to, it is then that he hears his voice "Niklaus, remain where you are"
He turns to the sound of his voice but is disappointed when he doesn't see him, he hopes that it is just him and his brother but a deep gutting feeling is telling him that this is not him, this is some sort of hallucination he is starting to have, in this utter darkness, where he could see nothing, his desire to see his brother has become so overwhelming that his brain has started to create hallucinations.
Something happens, there is light, just white light in a far corner and it keeps growing bigger, Klaus decides to go towards it but recalls what Elijah's voice said, be it in his hallucination or otherwise, he asked him not to move, so he stayed, he stayed until that white light reached to him and eventually turned gold, revealing a Goddess, "Niklaus Mikaelson"
He wants to see her face but the light emitting from her is so blinding that he is forced to turn away and use the back of his hand to cover his eyes, anyone other than him would have just shut his eyes but even in death, his paranoia refuses to abandon him and he doesn't, he tries to peep through the space between his fingers even though it aches his eyes to even look at her.
It is then that he hears his brother's voice again, "Niklaus, it seems that the Goddess of love and purity is pleased with you, she wants to give you a choice, only if you're willing to accept it."
The Goddess speaks, "That would be enough Elijah, now that you have introduced me to your brother, I would like to speak to him directly."
"There is no way that a Goddess would be pleased from me, much less, the Goddess of love and purity. I doubt who you are, I even think that you are merely a hallucination or a witch who is toying with my mind with these little tricks."
The Goddess smiles and says, "When you died for your daughter, you redeemed yourself, when you made a sacrifice to save your family from Marcel, you redeemed yourself, when you turned the world upside down for your daughter, you redeemed yourself, when you chose to save Davina and asked your sister to find another one way to kill Lucien you redeemed yourself. I am pleased with you because you made the greatest of the sacrifices all in the name of love and family, it was your family's and your daughter's love that redeemed you, that saved you and for that, I am here to give you another chance, a chance to live, a chance to have what you couldn't have, a chance to change things for good."
Everything that the Goddess said was going above his head, he didn't quite understand what the Goddess meant, what she wanted to do, what she was saying and most of all, he was still thinking that it was all some hallucination, "What do you mean?" he questions her.
"Klaus Mikaelson, I the Goddess of love and purity is giving you a chance to relive, a chance to save your family, a chance to be better than what you are and a chance to live the life you have always wanted."
Nothing what she said was clear to him, all he knew was that he could feel the wind blowing, it was blowing so fast he felt like he was in the middle of a cyclone, he uses both his hands to cover his eyes when he feels dirt getting into them and soon, the wind stops blowing, he opens his eyes and is bewildered to find himself in the cave their family used to live in, in the tenth century.
He gets up and sees, Rebekah, Elijah, Kol and Finn are all dead, it is the night, there mother turned them into vampires, he sees Mikael bringing a girl in, obviously she is compelled that's why she didn't say a word when Rebekah fed on her, he knew he had to complete the transition but what did the Goddess mean when she said, a chance to be better than what he was, it is his turn, he does feed from the girl's wrist just like his siblings but before anyone could kill her, he takes the girl out and away from the house, heals her and compels her to forget.
When he returns, he finds that the first thing his family did was burn the white oak to the ground and soon the cycle began, Nik was always careful not to kill anyone and he would often escort Rebekah during the feed and would make her stop from doing the kill, but all this didn't go well with Mikael, each time he would stop feeding before the kill, each time he would help his sister control the bloodlust, it would just add to Mikael's rage against him.
It was not that Klaus wouldn't make a kill that made Mikael furious, it was that he could control the blood lust better than him, better than any of them, deep, deep down, Mikael was always jealous, he had the feeling that Klaus would better him and that feeling drove him crazy, that feeling made him want to crush his aspirations down even before he could do know how his abilities.
One fine night after Nik helped Rebekah feed without making the kill, Mikael came at him from behind, he had a leather whip in his hands and a wooden stake in the other, obviously Klaus smelled and heard him, as much as he wanted to kill him right there and then, he knew that he would need Viking ash in the future to kill Dahlia, so when he sensed Mikael coming at him from behind, he just pulled that necklace out which his mother gave him, to suppress his strength.
When Mikael attacked him with the leather whip, he dodged, but when he kept coming at him, it made Klaus lose his self-control, he remembered all those thousand years of running away from Mikael, when Mikael kept attacking him, in the beginning he was dodging but with the werewolf gene comes aggression, and with turning into a vampire, his aggression was magnified, all those years of hatred, of running away from this man, all that rage, all that anger, all the agony, it reached its peak and Klaus stopped right in his tracks.
He stopped, and gave Mikael an opening to come at him and when Mikael came at him with the white oak, Klaus broke his wrist and forced Mikael's hand to stake himself with the white oak, the white oak pierced Mikael's heart, he fell to the ground screaming and soon his body caught fire.
Hearing Mikael's scream, all of Klaus' siblings came out and saw him burning into ashes, Esther was the last one who came running, Klaus could see fear in her eyes, the fear was not of losing Mikael, the fear was because she knew that he triggered his curse, that when the next full moon comes, he will turn and her truth will come to the fore, but he is way past it, he just knows that he needs Viking ash to eliminate a future enemy so addressing his mother he says,
"Quick mother, grab a jar and collect his ashes, after all, it is one of the three ingredients, required to kill your sister."
Esther looked up at him in shock, she had never mentioned Dahlia to him or to anyone, how could he know that and to kill Dahlia, does he know that his aunt is immortal too, that she cast an immortality spell just an year ago. Esther was filled with questions when he continued, "The second and third ingredients being your blood and the soil of her homeland."
One day when
