Chapter 1: Petunia Leaves Vernon
The cool autumn air blows quietly through Privet Drive. People are laying in bed, sound asleep, blissfully unaware of the events that took place the night before. Owls flying around in daylight and shooting stars are strange, but everyone seems to have forgotten the odd events already. A soft crack sounds, echoing slightly around the empty street and bringing with it an old man.
He is tall, with a long flowing beard, half moon glasses sit on his crooked nose and he seems to be unaware that everything about him, from his robes to his boots would not be a welcomed sight on this particular street. In his arms he is carrying a small bundle of light pink blankets. A baby girl, wrapped in a blanket that is much too thin, with a mess of red hair on the top of her head.
She's sleeping soundly at the moment, blissfully unaware that the next morning she would be woken up by the sound of shouting. She shivered slightly as the old man placed her on the cold doorstep of Number Four Privet Drive, placing a note next to her and disappearing on the spot.
When she was discovered the man of the house shouted, he picked her up and threw her into the cupboard under the stairs. He then stormed out, his wife, Petunia, took the baby out of the cupboard as soon as he was gone, grabbed her son, and left the house, heading to an old horse farm that her aunt of the same name had owned and willed to her. She entered the house, frowning at the dust covered furniture before gently setting the children down, checking the poor girl's head and finding it uninjured.
She sighs and gently says, "Don't worry, Iris, Dudley. I'll try to make this work."
The next two years pass without incident. Iris and Dudley have become the best of friends and Petunia divorced her husband. Right now Iris is walking along the fence that lines their property, humming to herself and enjoying the sunny weather.
I pause walking when a shadow blocks my path. I look up and see a huge walrus of a man with a huge mustache. I tilt my head a bit and frown, unsure of who this person is. He glares at me and I try to walk away from him, but get stopped by him grabbing my arm and snarling, "You're the reason she left me! Come here, you little freak!"
The man lifts me up and a moment later I find myself flying through the air. I land roughly on the ground and quickly get to my feet, glaring at the man as I hear Auntie rushing towards me. Auntie Petunia arrives and sees what's going on. She tenses and says, "Vernon. You need to go. I've already called the police, you aren't even supposed to be here."
"She made you leave me!" the walrus, Vernon, yells angrily.
"She was a baby and you threw her into a wall!" Auntie yells back.
"You don't know what you're talking about! That freak is messing with your mind!" he yells before lunging forward and picking me up again. I begin trying to kick him away from me. He throws me again and I end up turning in the air. Something hits my face and I cry out before rolling back to my feet before jumping back at the walrus. He laughs at me and I roll under his arm when he tries to grab me, running back towards the house.
Auntie follows me and I hear the police arriving. Auntie inspects my face a bit before taking me to the hospital. They take care of the injury on my face and a few days later I get sent home. When we get there I go up to my room and climb up onto the counter of my bathroom, looking at the bandage that is covering the right side of my face. I tilt my head a bit before climbing off the table and going down to the dining room, where I find Auntie sitting at the table.
I walk up to her and climb onto her lap before looking at her and asking, "Who was the walrus?"
Auntie sighs before saying, "A very bad man named Vernon Dursley. He was my husband, but I left him because as soon as he saw you, he treated you horribly."
I frown a bit and say, "I want to be able to fight back if he ever comes back."
She sighs and says, "I don't think he'll come back."
"It's better to be safe than sorry." I tell her before getting up and walking out. Over the next five years I begin training my body and the guy, Vernon Dursley, made several reappearances, most of them leaving me with a scar of some sort. From what I understand, he keeps getting out of trouble because his parents are rich and keep buying his freedom. The last few times he came around I've been able to fight back well enough that he's been bringing weapons with him.
Now I'm eight and Auntie has just sat me and Dudley down at the kitchen table and explained quite a few things. Firstly, magic exists, which I knew because of all the times I accidentally caused something weird to happen, such as sending Vernon flying through the air with a magic infused punch last time he showed up, secondly, there is an entire hidden society of magical people with their own laws and government, thirdly, my parents, who I believed to be dead, are alive and have been raising my twin brother.
Once Auntie finishes explaining all this I take a shaky breath before asking, "They abandoned me?" Auntie nods hesitantly, "They did that so they could raise my twin?" Auntie nods again and I scowl, "I'm going to wreak havoc on them when I get to that little school of theirs."
Auntie chuckles a bit before saying, "I was planning on taking you both to the shopping district of theirs tomorrow. Is there anything in particular you two will want, we can get some of their money at their bank, I'll exchange it."
"I want to get books and stuff." I tell her, "If I'm part of that world, and they have their own laws and stuff, then I ought to know about those laws."
She nods and writes a note for herself before asking, "Anything else?"
"Can we get a potions book? A simple one?" I ask and she nods before writing that down and looking at Dudley, who shrugs a bit.
"Can we get Ice Cream?" he asks and Auntie smiles.
"Yes, we can. I distinctly remember Lily taking us to an ice cream shop in the shopping district before." she tells us before standing, "I'll get everything ready for dinner."
"I'm gonna go practice my archery." I tell her and she smiles at what she's deemed my newest obsession, which I started doing last year. I go and grab my bow and arrows before heading out back, where I set up several targets made of hay bales, with help from the farm hand, Richard.
I begin shooting them, contemplating the fact that my parents abandoned me as I do. I shoot a few bullseye's before pausing when I hear rustling in the bushes nearby. I look over and see Vernon step out of the forest. I sigh a bit as he glares at me and says, "Little Freak."
"Vernon, this is the third time this year, do you really think you won't be caught again? I mean, I know your parents will bail you out, but do you really think they'll keep doing that if you keep doing things like this?" I ask him with a sigh.
"They'll understand me doing this." he sneers at me as he pulls out something that makes my entire body tense up. "You're not walking away this time, Freak."
I quickly aim my bow and shoot him in the shoulder, a moment after I release the arrow, I hear the gun he's holding go off. I drop my bow and try to jump out of the way, but feel something hit my arm and cry out in pain. I hear Auntie and Richard rushing towards us. I hear Richard call out, "Hold it right there! Don't move!"
I wince and stand up, looking over and finding Richard aiming a shotgun at Vernon. I walk up to Auntie as I hear the, by now familiar, sound of sirens in the distance. The police arrive with an ambulance, I get taken to the emergency room and Vernon gets arrested, again. They treat my arm and a few days later they send me home. We watch the news when we get home and find that Vernon is waiting to be sentenced.
I go to my room and find that either Dudley or Richard brought my bow and quiver inside. I sit on my bed with the bow and begin checking it for damages. I then meditate, which I learned how to do when I was five, before going to bed. The next day auntie changes my bandages before breakfast and we eat. Once we're done with that Auntie takes Dudley and me to London.
