Chapter 1
Shy's Traumatic Past
One peaceful night in the Unikingdom, Unikitty and Puppycorn took their adopted daughter, Kittycorn and her girlfriend, Shy to the movie theater so they could watch a movie together. It was a fun time for all of them. After the movie ended, they walked back home as they talked about the movie.
"So, what did you think of the movie, Shy?" Kittycorn asked her girlfriend.
"It was amazing, Kittycorn!" Shy smiled. "I've never seen a movie like it back when I was living in Frown Town! What do you call the kind of ending where everyone is happy and everything is resolved in the end?"
"You mean a happy ending?" Kittycorn gave an amused grin towards Shy, to which she nodded in response.
"We're glad you liked the movie, Shy!" Puppycorn spoke up. "I always enjoy going to the theaters with Unikitty and Kittycorn. Especially when it comes to eating the snacks."
Unikitty giggled. "So, how are you enjoying the Unikingdom, Shy. It's been awhile since we let you move in the castle with us!"
"It is wonderful, Queen Unikitty! I don't think I've been this happy since-" Shy paused as she remembered the fun times she had with her parents, who were now deceased. "Well, since a long time ago."
It wasn't long before everyone returned to the castle, ready to get a good night's sleep. Both, Kittycorn and Shy gave a couple of yawns as they reached the castle's front door. Right when Shy was about to open the front door, Kittycorn called out for her.
"Oh, Shyyy!" Kittycorn spoke in a sing-song voice. "You forgot your goodnight kiss!"
Soon, Shy gave an amused smile before she blushed slightly. "Come on, Kittycorn! You know how your parents get when we kiss in front of them."
"But it's just one kiss. Pretty please?"
"Oh, alright!"
With that, Kittycorn and Shy embraced each other before kissing each other on the lips.
"Aww! So, cute!" said Unikitty and Puppycorn in unison.
Shy simply giggled at that. "Okay! Goodnight, everyone!"
It was at that moment when Shy made her way back to her room. Shy changed into her pajamas before she jumped into bed. Ever since she was accepted into the Unikingdom, Shy had a happy life with Kittycorn and felt that her dark times were finally over.
A couple of hours had passed before Shy began to fall asleep. Suddenly, memories of her past started coming back to her. She began to dream of a time when she was a child, back when her parents were still alive. Several memories of the fun times she had with her parents continued flowing back to her until she started to dream about one fateful day.
Shy had a memory of herself back in Frown Town. It was a time where she was 6 years old and still living with her parents. She wore a light-blue dress that had the same color as her hair. Throughout the day, she was playing with her favorite toy, a stuffed teddy bear that she named, Teddy. The stuffed teddy bear had a blank expression and had two black buttons for eyes. Whenever she got scared she would always count on Teddy to make her feel safe.
"Sue." The little girl looked up upon hearing the name she was born with. "It's time for dinner." Her mother called for her.
"Coming." The child sat at the table next to her parents.
"So, has Teddy stayed together this time." Sue's dad asked her. "I think this is the tenth time we had to repair him."
Sue nodded with a smile. "Yes, Daddy! Teddy might not be good at staying together, but he is great at protecting me!"
"Yes, he is! He is a very brave bear!" Sue's mom smiled before setting the plates out on the table.
The family began to eat their dinner. After awhile they all heard screams coming from outside. Sue's parents knew that there was something wrong, so they told her to stay put before they took a peek out the window. It wasn't long before they both gasped and whispered something to one another.
It was hard for Sue to hear what they where saying. The most they she heard was 'the most feared doom lord of all time' and 'I thought he was just a myth.' This just filled Sue's head with questions. Who was just a myth and what was a doom lord? Before she could comprehend those questions, Sue's parents picked her up and carried her to their basement to hide her from whatever was lurking outside.
"Listen, Sue! We need you to stay here for awhile." Sue's dad whispered.
"What? But why?" Sue was confused by what was going on.
"Your father and I feel that something dangerous is nearby and we need you to stay safe. Here, take Teddy." Sue's mom handed her the teddy bear. "Just stay down here for now, and remember, we love you."
Sue's parents hugged her before they walked upstairs. A few minutes have passed, but to Sue, it felt like hours. The tension got worse when she heard yelling coming from upstairs. After awhile the yelling turned into bloodcurdling screams. Feeling scared and confused, Sue hugged Teddy tightly as she was close to crying.
As suddenly as it started, the screams died down. Several more minutes had passed and Sue was more scared than she had ever been in her life. It was at that moment when the basement door opened. Sue hoped it was her parents coming downstairs to comfort her and tell her that everything was okay. Instead, she saw an old man wearing a black cloak. He had a grey beard and eyebrows and stared at Sue with burning red eyes. He walked down the stairs and it wasn't until he reached the bottom of the steps when he began to speak.
"Is your name Sue?"
"Y-Yes?" Sue spoke in a timid voice. "Who are you?"
"My name is Master Death." the old man introduced. "I am a friend of your parents. I'm very sorry to tell you this, but your parents have passed away just recently."
"Wh-What?" Sue gasped upon hearing that. "Do you mean that they are g-gone?"
"Unfortunately so."
Shocked by what she heard, Sue broke down, crying. Master Death placed a comforting hand on Sue's shoulder, looking sympathetic.
"I am truly sorry, Sue. Your parents were great people. They told me that if anything ever happened to them, I should be the one to watch over you. The world is a dark and cruel place and you need to learn how to survive in this world. Do you understand?" Sue truly didn't understand what Master Death was talking about, but she gave a silent nod anyway.
Ever since the death of her parents, Sue had no choice but to stay with Master Death. She was forced to leave everything behind, including Teddy. She stayed with Master Death at an abandoned building for a few days before he decided that it was time for Sue to put on her doom lord cloak.
It was at that moment when Sue stepped out of her room, wearing a cloak that was completely black, apart from a green symbol at the front. She looked up to her mentor before she decided to speak.
"Why do I need to wear this, Master Death?"
"Because if you want to survive in this world you need to learn how to become a doom lord and I see great potential in you, Sue." Master Death paused for a moment as he observed Sue's shy behavior. "Hmm. Sue doesn't seem to be a suitable name for you. From this moment on, you shall be known as Master Shyness!"
Suddenly, Shy woke up from her nightmare with a scream. Shy took a couple of deep breaths before realizing that she was in Unikitty's castle. Shaken up from her nightmare, Shy buried her face in her arms as she started to cry. Even though she was free of Master Death, she still couldn't get over what he had done to her.
Not only had he forced her to become a doom lord against her will, but she also found out that she was living with the very man who murdered her parents in the first place. Despite living a happy life with Kittycorn, Shy could never truly forget the pain from her traumatic past.
