CHAPTER 1: How Not To Start A Day
Chantal just wants to go about her day as quick and as normal as possible. When she got to high school, her parents beat a lot of ideas into her head. No having sex, no cutting classes, no getting bad grades...basically, stay on the right path and you'll get everything you deserve and more...as long as they could afford it and she does her chores.
Did all of that, but no car. Cellphone is a generation behind. But hey! She's apart of the cheerleading squad, had a bunch of nice and fancy clothes to keep up with the trends, and she has made plenty of friends...mostly on the cheerleading squad, but she did have a chance of getting a boyfriend on the football team. Just...not at the moment. She's too busy handling schoolwork and considering her colleges after she passes her final year.
And that's just before...SHE came.
The arrival of Star Butterfly caused a great disturbance in the natural balance of Echo Creek Academy. And not just for the students! The prospect of magic existing and being used really did shift the world of everyone at the school. Miss Skullnick became a literal troll, one of the nerd boys is now king of a nation of faeries, and there's no telling what sort of monster or magical mayhap might happen today.
Chantal isn't one of those students that wanted to get some magical gift or something like that. She's not really the most stand-out person available. Brittany liked to remark that she is plain looking, and her near mop-top haircut is rather basic for a cheerleader. There has always been the threat (Sometimes implied, sometimes direct) of her being kicked off the team if she didn't improve her looks.
Chantal wanted only one thing. Leave home, go to school, get this stuff over with, hang out with friends, go home, and wait for the weekend to come on around. Like everyone else. Avoid Star, avoid whatever nonsense she brings with her and...
"Hey!"
And there goes that.
"Star." Chantal groaned as she stood her ground, not even bothering to turn and face the approaching nuisance. "Is there something..."
"I need you to come on an adventure with me." Star asked, pulling out her wand. "Don't worry, it won't take that long,..."
"What, no!" Chantal shook her head. "I'm not your adventuring buddy! Shouldn't you be hanging out with Marco, or Janna?" She looked around at the other students passing by. Some of them were quickly hurrying along to avoid getting into contact with Star, some were stopping to look at the conservation between the princess and the plain-looking girl, while others were able to continue their normal lives while only taking small peeks at the two.
"Well, they're busy."
"Busy with normal schoolwork, like me." Chantal motioned with the books she's been carrying around. "I have to get to my next class before I'm late..."
"Those are math books." Star pointed out with her wand. "I thought math is generally seen as being the worst and most useless subject?" Chantal groaned. It's true, but she didn't want to admit that to Star. Didn't want to agree with her, just wanted to be free of her. "Trust me! Trust me! You'll really be into this. WAY more than math!"
"You say that, but I REALLY don't want to go on any sort of adventure with you." Chantal sniffed with baring her teeth. "Please, leave me alone." Star looked like she might throw a pout but she eventually shrugged and stood back. Chantal let out a sigh of relief as she started to hurry her pace towards class.
Why did Star want her? Chantal didn't know, nor care enough to try and learn the answer. That would mean talking more to Star. And that means listening more to her inane babbling or having to deal with her personal blend of psychopathy. Chantal didn't really care that she isn't the more adventurous person around. Pretty sure some of the students are giving her the evil eye because she passed up something they would love to go on.
No, no. Adventuring is not for her. She's just set to live a normal life. And not even that magical portal starting to pull her in is going to stop her..oh yes it will, never mind.
"WHAT, NO!" Gasped out Chantal as she got flying down to her stomach as she got pulled up by some invisible wind. She looked behind her to see a literal tear in the fabric of reality open to some pink forest-like area. And there's nothing she could do to stop her from dragged inside! Dropping her books to try and dig her fingernails into the floor isn't helping matters. And none of the other students are helping her. They probably don't want to get involved.
"Stop, stop!" Was all that Chantal could get out before he finally got dragged into the portal, with it closing up after her.
Nobody knew what had happened, and there's not much they could do. Some of the students quickly arranged a betting pool regarding what will happen to Chantal. Some believed that she would return changed into a creature. Some assumed that she would gain an additional limb. One guy thought she might come back as a battle-hardened warrior.
Regardless, they all believe that Chantal would return a changed woman.
