Just a heads up! This story is going to take me I don't even know how long to finish, but I know it is going to be totally worth it in the end. I don't own Star Wars or anything in this fanfiction.
Mustafar
19 BBY
Padmé slowly landed her starship on a landing pad. She put her hand to her forehead to calm herself. Her mind was racing. Why would Obi-Wan tell her such horrific things? Her Ani? Killing younglings and destroying the Jedi? The Jedis he grew up with? Help destroy the Republic that she and so many others have fought for? She refused to believe it. She's known Anakin for so long and knew that he wouldn't do something so horrible. She hated to admit it, but what Anakin had told her a day before didn't sound right. The Jedi were peacekeepers. Why would they try to overthrow the Republic? It didn't make any sense. On top of all that, Obi-Wan had told her that Chancellor Palpatine was the Sith Lord the Jedi had been searching for and the one behind the war. He was a friend for so long to Padmé and she had helped him gain as much power he had gained over the last few years. He had used her like a pawn. C-3P0 was sitting next to Padmé and he watched her as she stressed about something.
"Miss Padmé, if you don't mind me asking and not that I am upset about it, why exactly did you bring me with you on this trip to this awful place?" Threepio asked. Padmé didn't want to try and explain to Threepio about what was going on since she didn't even really know herself, but sadly had an idea. She turned in her seat and instead told him something else that held truth: "Because you're one of my closest friends Threepio." She smiled at the droid, but then immediately stood up from her seat and spoke before he could respond: "Stay here. I'll be back." She turned and walked towards the back of the ship. She opened the ramp and descended down it and onto the landing pad.
Padmé immediately saw Anakin running to her and she started to run over to him as well. She didn't have to run far since he had seen her first. Padmé ran into his arms hugging him tightly. He hugged her back. R2-D2 watched from a distance and started to record the two of them.
"I saw your ship," Anakin told her. They both let go of each other, but made sure to hold the other at arm's length.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked her. He had told her to wait for him back at home for his arrival. Why didn't she listen? It's not safe for her, especially on a planet like this.
"I was so worried about you," Padmé told him. She let go of his arms and started to wipe his sweaty hair out of his face."Obi-wan told me terrible things," she said.
"What things?" Anakin asked in a stiff tone. Why would Obi-Wan go and see Padmé? He let go of her arms.
"He said you've turned to the dark side," she said, shaking her head not wanting to believe it. "That you...killed younglings," she continued. Anakin was afraid now since he knew what she had said was true and that now may change her look on him forever. He looked down and she looked at him anxiously waiting for a response.
His blue sapphire eyes looked back up to meet her brown amber ones. "Obi-Wan is trying to turn you against me," Anakin told her, believing it himself.
"He cares about us," Padmé told him, trying to comfort him. Padmé noticed how he didn't deny anything she had said that Obi-Wan had told her. This frightened her to her core.
"Us?" Anakin asked. So Obi-Wan knew about them. He did admit, he wasn't very good at keeping secrets from his old master.
"He knows. He wants to help you," Padmé said. Anakin smiled humorlessly knowing that wasn't true since Obi-Wan was one of very few if not the only Jedi that survived the purge. He knew his master. He wouldn't let something like this slide.
Padmé's heart skipped a beat when she saw her husband smile. Was this a joke to him? He did quickly regain a straight face when she began to speak again. "Anakin, all I want is your love," she told him, trying to reach him.
"Love won't save you Padmé. Only my new powers can do that," Anakin told her. How could she not see that he was trying to save her from death? How he couldn't do the same for his mother?
"At what cost? You're a good person. Don't do this," Padmé pleaded. Her terrifying realizations started to become true and she began to believe them.
"I won't lose you the way I lost my mother," Anakin said to her trying to make her understand. "I am becoming more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of and I'm doing it for you. To protect you," he said. Padmé still loved Anakin with all of her heart, she didn't care if what he did was true now. She just wanted to live her life with her husband and child.
"Come away with me," Padmé said as she began to run her hands through his golden hair. "Help me raise our child. Leave everything else behind while we still can!" She continued, still trying to get him to leave with her.
"Don't you see? We don't have to run away anymore. I have brought peace to the Republic. I am more powerful than the Chancellor. I-I can overthrow him!" Anakin explained. What Obi-Wan had told her was now confirmed. Anakin was just telling her yesterday that his loyalties lie with the Chancellor and now he was talking about overthrowing him. "And together you and I can rule the galaxy! Make things the way we want them to be!" Anakin finished. Padmé's eyes widened in horror and she took a step away from him. How could her Ani not see that she didn't want any of that? All she wanted was him and their child. She felt tears beginning to form in her eyes.
"I don't believe what I'm hearing," Padmé said, shaking her head. "Obi-Wan was right. You've changed," she said to her fallen husband with a sad voice. Anakin looked away in anger quickly, but immediately looked back to his wife.
"I don't want to hear anymore about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me, don't you turn against me," Anakin said coldly. Tears started to fall down Padmé's cheeks. This man was no longer her husband. She didn't know what this monster was that her Ani had become. Her face expression read sadness, sorrow, and horror. She took another step back.
"I don't know you anymore," Padmé said, now crying. "Anakin, you're breaking my heart. You're going down a path I can't follow!" She cried.
"Because of Obi-Wan?" Anakin asked, as if not even noticing his wife was crying. Her Ani would comfort her if she ever cried. The man in front of her now didn't.
"Because of what you've done! What you plan to do!" Padmé yelled, still crying. Why couldn't she understand that this path was the only one to save her from death?
"Stop! Stop now, come back!" Padmé pleaded. Anakin looked past her and to the top of the ramp of her ship and saw his old master with his fists on his hips. Anakin's blood began to boil. His emotions began to cloud his thinking. His own wife had betrayed him.
"I love you!" Padmé cried to him in one last attempt to bring her husband back to her. She watched in horror as Anakin's eyes immediately went from sapphire blue to a terrifying red and yellow and looked back at her.
"Liar!" Darth Vader yelled. Obi-Wan broke his stance and began to descend down the ramp. Padmé turned around to see what he was looking at. She gasped in horror seeing and realizing that Obi-Wan had stowed away aboard her ship. She looked back to Anakin.
"No!" Padmé yelled realizing that Anakin was thinking that he had betrayed her. But she didn't! She didn't know that Obi-Wan was on her ship! She looked back to Obi-Wan then back to Anakin while taking a couple more steps back as Anakin took a few steps forward. Vader looked at his old master.
"You're with him! You brought him here to kill me," Vader accused.
"No!" Padmé yelled again. She was about to explain until Anakin did something that both surprised her and broke her heart into a million pieces. Darth Vader raised his gloved mechanical hand and began to force choke his wife. She reached to her throat with both of her hands to try and pry off the invisible grip that had a hold of her.
"Let her go, Anakin!" Obi-Wan ordered. Padmé watched the glowing red and yellow eyes that stared back at her.
"Anakin, I love you," Padmé said, struggling to breathe. Vader didn't hear her say this.
"Let. Her. Go," Obi-Wan ordered once more reaching the end of the ramp and was now on the ground. Vader finally let go and Padmé quickly inhaled air and fell over unconscious. Obi-Wan and Vader watched as she fell to the ground. Vader sensed she was alive, but just unconscious. He was the first to look up from Padmé's form.
"You turned her against me!" Vader yelled at Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan looked away from Padmé and back to his old padawan.
"You have done that yourself," Obi-wan told him. Vader rid himself of his Jedi robes and let them fall onto the ground and began to pace from side to side. Volcanic explosions began to happen as the time for them to do so came.
"You will not take her from me!" Vader roared. Obi-Wan rid himself of his Jedi robes too.
"Your anger and your lust for power have already done that," Obi-Wan told him. Vader and Obi-Wan began to walk in a circle, but still kept eye contact.
"You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind until now. Until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy," Obi-Wan informed him.
"Don't lecture me Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do," Vader said. Obi-Wan and Vader had circled until Obi-Wan was standing next to Padmé and Vader was standing next to Padmé's ship.
"I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new empire!" Vader said boldly while facing away from Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan had knelt down and tended to Padmé to see if she was alright as Vader said this. Obi-Wan stood back up and was looking at the back of Vader's head.
"Your new empire?" Obi-Wan asked. "That's what I said old man," Vader thought.
"Don't make me kill you," Vader threatened.
"Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic to democracy!" Obi-Wan yelled.
"If you're not with me then you're my enemy," Vader said firmly. Obi-Wan saw that Anakin was not coming back.
"Only a Sith deals in absolutes," Obi-Wan said. He grabbed his lightsaber from his belt.
"I will do what I must," Obi-Wan said, almost trying to reassure himself rather than Vader.
Vader was hoping that he would say this.
"You will try," Vader said. Obi-Wan ignited his blue blade. Vader quickly grabbed his lightsaber and ignited it as well and Jedi flipped backwards towards Obi-Wan and started attacking. Their blades collided with one another. They moved back towards the building that Vader had come out of and out of view from Artoo as they fought.
Artoo stopped and saved the recording to his memory and quickly rolled over to where Padmé was and stopped when he was in front of her. He retracted his third leg back into his body so his one eye on his dome-shaped head could look at the senator. Artoo beeped loudly, worried that she was dead. When she didn't respond to him, he turned and rolled up the ramp and on board her ship to try and find something that would help her. He rolled his way over to where the cockpit was and found Threepio sitting down. Artoo beeped and Threepio turned around in his seat recognizing the beep.
"Artoo! What are you doing here?" Threepio asked the astro droid as he got up from his seat. Artoo rolled over to Threepio and looked up to him and beeped.
"Mistress Padmé is in trouble? Artoo, where is she?" Threepio asked, now worried. Artoo beeped for Threepio to follow him. Artoo turned around and rolled towards the way where the ramp was and Threepio followed him. They both descended down the ramp and Threepio threw his golden hands above his head as he saw Padmé's unconscious form and exclaimed: "Mistress Padmé!"
