THE LAND BEFORE TIME: COLORS OF THE WHISPERING WIND
CHAPTER 1: WHISPERING SPIRITS
In the beginning of our world's history, life was very different compared to what we're all used to now. The Earth was a very dangerous land where erupting volconas scorched the surface, great chasms dominated the land due to monstrous earthquakes, and last but not least…it was the time of the dinosaurs. Some were leaf eaters while some feasted on flesh, some were small and relatively harmless while others were hundred ton giants that reached the sky. It was a dangerous time for many, but for those who sought safety and peace,it existed in the form of The Great Valley.
It was a place where leaf eaters could come and be mostly protected from sharpteeth along with other threats, and it was a great place for their young ones to live in such as Littlefoot the longneck, Cera the threehorn, Petrie the flier, Ducky the swimmer, Spike the…..spiketail, Ruby the fast runner and Chomper the friendly sharptooth. While their parents had a slight degree of mistrust with one another due to their differences, they didn't stop their children from putting them aside and being friends with each other.
The sun was starting to set on another day in the valley and the children were playing a game of ball with a watermelon like fruit, while Littlefoot's grandparents watched from a distance. They weren't overly protective of their grandson but they just felt like watching over for a change since anything could happen in the valley, particularly when it came to the children getting into trouble.
"Hey Spike catch!" Littlefoot shouted as he tossed the fruit with his tail to which Spike promptly caught it with his mouth, only for him to immediately chomp down on it and get chunks of fruit everywhere.
"Aww Spike!" moaned Chomper in disappointment as Spike happily licked up the fruit chunks only for Petrie to giggle as he and Ducky rolled over a huge pile of fruit "We got more!" only for Spike's eyes to light up at the sight of it before trying to storm towards it.
"Ah-ah-ah!"
"Oh Spike, how large can your belly be?" Ducky playfully asked as Petrie frantically used his wings to protect the balls of fruit from Spike's jaws resulting in everyone having a laugh at the sight.
"They really do have his mother's spirit in them."
chuckled Grandpa Longneck as they both watched over the children to which Grandma couldn't help but agree "You may be right. I remember that she was just like them when she was young." before Grandpa nodded his head and suggested "I think we should have a talk with Littlefoot."
After Spike had finally decided to give up on trying to seize the extra fruit,Littlefoot perked up and turned around when he heard the voice of his grandfather call out "Littlefoot! Could you come here?" to which the young longneck politely excused himself "My Grandpa's calling me,I'll be back soon." before proceeding to join his grandparents.
"Hi Grandma. Hi Grandpa." greeted the young longneck with a light laugh to which Grandpa happily replied "I'm happy you and your friends are having fun,but there's something me and your grandmother are wanting to talk about with you." which prompted Littlefoot to grow a slight look of concern as he asked with a lowered head "Is something wrong?"
"No Littlefoot. Everything's okay." chuckled Grandma in response to her grandson's worry before Grandpa asked "Now Littlefoot,I don't know exactly how to ask this but….do you by chance remember much of your mother?"
Littlefoot was taken aback by his grandfather's question, while he didn't outright forget about his mother ever since making it to the Great Valley all those years ago,he had been trying to keep his memories of her from overwhelming him and bribing back that terrible day when he lost her forever.
"Y-yes I do Grandpa. Did you think I forgot about her?" wondered a now surprised Littlefoot to which Grandpa shook his head and answered "Of course I didn't Littlefoot. However I wanted to ask you because I see so much of her spirit inside you every day. When her time came, she told you that she would always be with you…..even if you couldn't see her. Your heart whispers to you,and I believe her spirit does as well….and you can hear it if you listen."
Suddenly a gust of wind began to envelope through surrounding field as blades of grass and leaves from the trees flew around Littlefoot, along with the faint voice of a woman.
Grandpa Longneck:
You will understand.
Listen with your heart, you will understand.
Let it break upon you like a wave upon the sand.
Listen with your heart, you will understand.
(Understand.)
After the strange experience with the breeze had ended,Littlefoot looked up to see his grandparents smiling down at him to which he returned the gesture and replied "Thanks Grandpa." before heading back to rejoin his friends.
Later on that night, the whole valley was in a deep and quiet sleep as a clear blanket of stars twinkled up in the heavens alongside the brightness of the crescent moon. Littlefoot and the rest of the children peacefully slept alongside their parents and herds, but the words of his grandfather still lingered in the young longneck's mind.
"You will understand "
Then unbeknownst to the valley,an oddly shaped cloud began to slowly form up in the sky and cover up the moon, but as time went on it began to look like the striking image of a longneck, but not just any longneck.
"Littlefoot." a soothing and comforting voice quietly whispered to which the sleeping longneck meekly moaned in his sleep "M-mother?" before the cloud slowly moved away from the moon, allowing its light to shine on the valley once again. But now the light looked like that of a large god ray,but as it approached the ground it started to split off into 7 smaller rays that each traveled across the valley at the same time.
The rays of light then seemed to each reach their destination, which happened to be one of the sleeping children,Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike, Ruby and Chomper. Neither the kids nor those near them were awoken by the light even as it started to grow brighter and brighter, before completely lighting up the valley like the sun at noon, but just as it couldn't possibly get any brighter, the light slowly started to fade away before the valley was back to its normal state, all except for the fact that the children were now gone.
