PART 1
CHAPTER 1
Rosabella Gilbert was the oldest of the three Gilbert Siblings. As a senior in high school, she was naturally wild and rebellious. Her behavior became worse with the death of her parents, she never came home anymore was always drinking and smoking. She had spent her entire summer at her best friend's house, Vicki Donovan. Rosabella barely saw her family save for Jeremy when he hung around them to get high and to screw her friend.
The summer passed in a blur for Rose and before she realized it, she had to return home to prepare for the new school year, which explained the banging on her door. She groaned in her bed slamming a pillow over her head to try and appease her hangover. Throbbing head aside she stood up and made her way to the shower once her younger sister's noise stopped.
Rosabella entered the kitchen just as Jenna held up lunch money. She grabbed the green bills in her hand and Elena's coffee in one smooth motion. The girl grumbled at the loss of her coffee, but Rose ignored her in favor of grabbing her keys and making a beeline for her car.
The familiar Dodge put a smile on her face as she climbed behind the wheel.
The ride from her home to school was short, but it gave her enough time to light her blunt and get high by the time she pulled into her usual spot. Rose had just closed the door of her car when Vicki's boyfriend pulled in beside her. "Hey, Rose! Looking hot today!" The Junior motioned to her tight leather pants, combats boots, and tank top. Rose had her leather jacket in her hands as the sun was warming up. Rose sent Tyler a nasty glare before walking away. "Wait up!" He called, running after the black-haired girl. Rose sighed, her good mood gone as Tyler came to walk beside her.
The hand that landed on her lower back made her shiver, but she moved away from him. Tyler sent her a smirk opening his mouth to speak. "It was a mistake," Rose said, cutting him off. "I was higher than a kite and you were the closest person to me. That's all it was." Rose hoped that he would take offense but the boy's ego was larger than what she thought it was. "The way you were screaming my name makes me think differently." Rose glared at him and sped up her strides, relief, and guilt washed over her as Vicki and her brother came in view.
At least now Tyler couldn't mention their little tryst that occurred the day before. Jeremy grinned at his oldest sister as she leaned up and kissed him on the cheek. Discreetly he handed her some pills which she immediately swallowed. Rose wrapped her arms around her brother smiling as he did the same pulling her further into his side. "Hey Vic, I knew I'd find you here with the crackheads." Tyler and Vicki embraced but he was staring at her. Their eyes connected and they had an intense second before he looked away grabbing the joint out of Jeremy's hands. Gone was that spark of attraction and in its place was anger.
"Hey, Pete Wentz called. He wants his nail polish back." Jeremy smirked standing up taller. "Pete Wentz, huh? How old school T.R.L of you. Carson Daily fan?" Tyler moved towards Jeremy anger clear on his face but Rose stepped forward just as Vicki pulled her boyfriend back. "Watch yourself, Lockwood."
The atmosphere was tense but it was broken when Vicki kissed Tyler to distract him. She glared at the couple before turning around and leading Jeremy a few steps away from them. She grabbed the boy's face, forcing him to look at her. "Hey," She slapped him lightly, "Don't mess with Tyler his bad news." Jeremy nodded, jaw clenched. Rose hardly believed he would stop poking the bear though, they were similar in that regard. She sighed and lit up another joint passing it to Jeremy to keep him distracted from the girl he loved being with another guy.
They smoked and spoke about small stuff simply to avoid silence, Rose barely registered what Jeremy was telling her nor her responses. She was somewhat on autopilot her mind wondering to the previous day. Vicki was her best friend but the two had a lot of issues with each other and had somewhat of a toxic friendship. Which was why she had slept with Tyler in the first place. The fact that he had rocked her world was after the fact, and now she felt guilty for enjoying their hook-up as much as she did.
The couple joined them after a while of being on their own, but Jeremy left not up to being in Tyler's company. Tyler himself left soon after to go and find Matt leaving the girls on their own. She glared at Tyler as he kept their eye contact even while kissing Vicki goodbye. When he did finally leave the girls sat on their own in their usual comfortable silence. "Do you plan to go to class?" Rosabella asked Vicki as the bell for first period rang. The girl nodded, "Have to turn up for the first day at least." The brown-haired girl stood up and motioned to the school. "Coming?" She asked.
Rose sighed, grabbing her keys out of her pocket. "Nah, The sympathy and questions are going to drive me mad, I'll be at the grill. Might pick up a shift." They hugged and Vicki walked Rose to her car before she made her way to the school.
Mystic Falls was a small town, everything was just about in walking distance of each other. Rose sometimes wondered why people in the town bothered to buy cars. Rose pulled up to the Grill seating herself at the bar. As an employee, she had no issues with her age when she ordered herself some bourbon to take the edge off of the pills she had taken. It wasn't long before someone joined her, and a stranger at that. Another perk or curse depending on how you looked at it was that everyone knew everyone in Mystic Falls. Which was why Rose could say for certain that the handsome man seated next to her was indeed a stranger.
He was pale, Rose noted, with blue eyes lighter than even Matt's and hair just as dark as her own. "So, why's a girl like you drinking on her own." He asked. The voice behind the face sent shivers down her spine. Throwing the rest of her drink back she answered. "Tragic past."
Damon expected her to fawn over him, clearly being too young to even be seated at the bar, but she didn't. She was hot, but something else had made him sit next to her. Perhaps it was because she shared a likeness with him. In that one brief answer, he could tell that she was cynical and had a grey view of the world. Damon could also smell the weed that clung to her clothes. Tragic indeed.
Rose wasn't stupid, she knew the older man was assessing her and analyzing her. "I'm about to work soon, so we can either go now or you can leave me the fuck alone and look for some ass someplace else." She knew she was being crass, but frankly Rose couldn't care. She never really did, sober or high. It was just her personality.
Damon smirked and finished his drink before grabbing her hand and leading her back to the bathroom. Checking that they were alone he locked the door and pushed her up against it. Immediately her hands found their way into her hair as he leaned down to her neck. He knew she wanted sex, and thought that he did too. But Damon needed to satisfy his hunger before anything else. He smirked as his fangs extended and cut through the flesh where her neck and shoulder met.
Rose frowned as pain exploded through her body, her mind struggled to understand what was happening. The man above her answered her question when he moved away from her neck, giving her a bloody smile. Suddenly feeling weak she slid to the floor holding her neck as the blood dripped down. "Hey, I can't let you bleed out yet. You taste surprisingly good. Not a fan of the extra buzz though." She narrowed her eyes as her vision began to darker. "What… What the hell are you..."
Damon was surprised at how calm she was being, usually, they screamed and tried to call for help. He could taste from her blood that she wasn't high enough to explain her calm reaction. Before he could further investigate the strange girl, she began closing her eyes struggling to stay awake. He sighed biting into his wrist before leaning down and placing it against her lips. He forced the blood down her throat and watched as the wound healed.
Damon slapped her face lightly, drawing her from her drowsy state.
Rosabella's eyes widened as her attacker held his face directly in front of her. She could see her blood covering his mouth and the fangs that were his teeth as well as the black veins that all began fading. Her heart pounded but she didn't scream, "What are you?" She asked, no waver in her voice. "A Vampire." He answered, tilting his head to the side, eyes unblinking. Rose felt he was waiting for her reaction, wondering what she would do. "And… you drank my blood…?" There was a questioning tone in her voice, a question which Damon gave a simple answer by nodding and licking his lips.
"Do you want me to scream or something?"
Damon paused realizing that the question was directed to him. "They usually do… It's the natural response. I'm a vampire, supernatural creature of the night. Murderer." He could have gone on, but the blank stare she was giving him unnerved him. Damon moved away from her, stepping out of her personal space. She struggled to stand but did so eventually.
There was another long pause. Both vampire and human not sure as to how they were supposed to deal with the situation. "So... Are you going to kill me or not? As I said, I have a shift to get back to." Damon couldn't understand the girl that he had just taken a bite out of. She had jumped at the chance to have sex with a stranger and when the said stranger turned out to be a mythical killer, she was concerned about getting back to her job.
Speeding in front of her made her heart rate spike but she otherwise didn't react. Damon made direct eye contact with her. "What is wrong with you? Be honest." He compelled. Rose didn't know the answer to his question but felt her mouth moving without her consent. "I'm cold. I used my best friend's boyfriend to get back at her for something stupid. I wasn't affected by my parent's death, so I avoided going home. I hide how bad of a person I am from everyone I know. I feel guilty that I don't feel guilty." The words came pouring out before she could stop it. Damon's eyes widened at her words, never expecting the darkness that surrounded them. Suddenly her reaction became clear, she wasn't normal. The confession continued and Damon made a rash and snap decision.
"I feel dead inside, I always have. But I feel worse than usual because I killed someone." Rose tried desperately to stop speaking but an unknown force took her over. Tears streamed down her face as her innermost thoughts were given to a stranger to do with what he pleased. "I killed someone just to see what it was like, then pinned it on someone else and got away with it. I liked it."
He wiped the tears away, a dark smirk on his face. "I'll make it all better." He wouldn't be alone anymore, someone just as messed up as him will be at his side.
Damon reached up and snapped her neck, the girl falling limp in his arms.
