Prologue - I See The Light
Alone in the dark, a young boy stared toward the blue tint that coated the fragments of a once whole sphere in the night sky, he had heard of this 'Blue Moon' but this was the first he's seen one. It was nice, it gave him something to watch given all that had transpired for the last two weeks, things were so new and strange, almost overwhelming him to the point of restlessness.
Sat with his elbows propped on the windowsill, he kept the covers close to his body as his eyes followed the twinkling stars. What he failed to see were two silver eyes watching him. "Boo," The voice of belonging to the looming shadow rang out, startling the boy as he almost fell from his bed, hearing the soft giggle above. "Whoops."
"Not funny," He breathed, wiggling upright with a faint rosiness to his cheeks. The woman with raven hair, soft, red highlights tinting her bangs, sat down beside him. She had a motherly aura surrounding her, and the strange shade of silver continued to fascinate his sense of curiosity. "..."
"Can't sleep tonight?" She asked, receiving the same, blank stare, and silence. This wasn't so regular but she did worry about his health. Patting her knees, she smiled down at the boy. "Well, that certainly won't do, come here." Her arms reached out for him to slide between. Silent, the boy slowly did as she asked, then was immediately scooped up and pulled back toward his pillows, though now he found himself snuggled against the woman. "Hehehe..."
"...I can sleep fine," Was his bleak response, but so far, he didn't budge, meaning she had won over his trust. Then she found the piercing, tiger-orange orbs glancing up at her, a shade of orange she really liked for his eye-color. "You don't need to worry, Summer." Inwardly, she refrained from showing her slight disappointment at her own name, she really thought she was getting closer to earning his affection.
Smiling all the same in the darkroom, Summer hugged him tightly. "I know, but I do, I'm your parent so that's my job to worry," Summer reminded him, poking his nose until his hand brushed her teasing hand aside. Then her little idea cropped up with a sly smirk. "How's this, let me help you fall asleep and if that doesn't work I'll leave, sound fair?"
It was a tempting offer, he liked making small games like this, they were short but tantalizing, and was his biggest weakness he knew Summer would exploit. Sighing reluctantly, her futile grip was already very demanding of her own lack of energy to leave. "...fine." Crossing his arms, he faced the window and in turn, the moon above the treeline."
Gently resting her back against the board of the bed, Summer felt her eyes rest on the white mound of hair under her. Humming the familiar melody she let her arms hold the boy with a tender, protective embrace. "All those days, watching from the windows. All those years, outside looking in. All that time, never even knowing. Just how blind I've been~"
Summer's voice was a soft timbre, soothing and sweet in the night while the boy felt his gaze level to the moon, cheek creased against her warm arm. "Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight. Now I'm here, suddenly I see. Standing here, it's all so clear, I'm where I'm meant to be~~" He felt her breath tickle his hair, eyes wide at the stars while his heart tightened a little. "And at last I see the light...~-"
"-And it's like the fog has lifted. And at last I see the light, and it's like the sky is new...~" Summer brought her voice lower, her lips curled back sweetly as the boy's body became far less rigid in her arms, head leaning back into her side while her left ran through his hair gingerly. "And it's warm and real and bright, and the world has somehow shifted...~"
The boy's eyes were starting to feel heavy, the world around him was all just warmth to him, comforting despite the coziness of his room, all while a voice sang in his ears, breaking a small smile across his face. "All at once, everything looks different. Now that I... see you...~"
Closing the song off midway, Summer leaned closer to hear the whitette's gentle breathing against her arm. Feeling her eyes linger lovingly at her son, she leaned down and softly kissed his head, resting her own against the board as her eyes closed, still ghosting her fingers through his white curls. "Goodnight, sweetie."
To Be Continued...
A little short to set the story off, things are about to get really dark so a fair warning. Just how will this world and story change now that there's a new individual cast into its story? I hope you enjoyed it, appreciate the support as always, enjoy the rest of this tale!
The song is I See the Light from Tangled (Though I suppose that was obvious).
