I'm back, sort of, well good news is I am still writing but bad news is my focus is limited and bounces more than the plot bunnies. I will very slowly post this story as it will be a short story idea and is up for adoption after I post an ending. Its a very rough draft idea I am still working on but you readers deserve it. Also I am going to post some other works (rough drafts) through out the year.

I am sorry if any of you are looking for sequels to certain stories but I need to get my mind better focused to get them written.

With out farther headache... ON WITH THE MADNESS...

Harry Potter- The Broken Children

Summary: What was to be the savior of the wizarding world was lost, but when that world finds him they find an even greater problem. How will the powers that be handle the fact that their savior is broken in more ways than one.

Disclaimer: I don't own any original ideas/ characters/ ect of the Harry Potter universe. I do have a lovely mind that gets to be free ever so often to come up with these ideas.

Chapter 1- the one arm bandit.

Alastor Moody was not impressed as he arrived on the scene of a robbery involving magic. He watched from his invisibility cloak as the police took down the reports. Locked doors bypassed and safes opened quickly. Security systems fried out. Even the patrol guard was found unconscious but unharmed.

The magic signature was the same as the last four robberies this month. But the biggest thing was that there were no prior records for the signature. Moody glared around and noticed a small kid just down the road watching the officers closely...A little too closely. He walked over to the child to see a small girl of maybe 9 or 10 hiding off the main paths.

After the police started to disperse, the girl slipped into the tree line heading away from the roads. She kept heading along a barely visible path keeping her step close to lessen how wide the path was.

Moody followed her as his years of Auror work and paranoia was screaming at him. When he saw a large two story barn off in the distance covered in foliage and vines, he knew he was getting close to his target. He called in some back up as his magical eye spotted five others in the building.

He waved them down and cast a privacy ward around them. "Kingsley, Dawlish. I have a lead on the magical rodder but it is in the company of muggles and it looks like kids. The building up ahead has six children in it so the magical could be away. We need to ambush him so first things first. We go in and stun the children then wait for the perp."

They each followed his lead as he slipped into the shifted board that the girl used earlier. Once inside they made for the largest room in the middle. Sitting around a barrel used for firewood, they saw five of the kids. Three girls in worn out dresses and coats and two boys in equally worn out clothes. One of them seemed to be handing out food to the others. Off in the corner was another small girl wrapped in mothhole riddled and dingy blankets.

One of the boys was taking her a bowl of food. "Hey, you need to eat. You know they were bad people so we stole from them and when we send those papers to the police tomorrow they will be arrested. Right now you need to eat." The girl nodded and took the bowl. Moody noticed that the boy had a small metal pipe hanging off his belt like a weapon. He also watched the boy closely with how he moved and did things. With a signal to the others he snuck closer to get a good shot.

As he was aiming he heard Dawlish call out his spell. That mere second was all it took for the armed boy to spin and use the pipe to knock the spell back at the Auror. It missed but the surprise was good enough that the other children ran to the covered girl and helped her to a barricaded corner. The boy saw moody and lunged at him swinging the pipe down only for it to be blocked.

Moody holding his walking staff grinned as the boy was blocked then scowled as he watched said boy drop to a crouch and spun aiming for his legs. The staff slammed into the ground blocking that strike but the boy rolled away from his point blank stunner.

The eyes of the boy widened as he dodged the energy from the man's stick. He jumped back tossing his pipe to the air before reaching into his worn hoodie pocket and flinging a bola at the tallest man heading to the others. The man was caught and fell releasing his wand as he hit the ground. The other barely dodged a rock to his head as he grabbed the oldest looking girl and held her by the back of her dress. "Stand down boy and this one won't be hurt."

The boy saw the sudden look of panic in the girl's eye as well as the sadistic look on the man as he gazed at the girl. That was all he needed as the pipe landed in his hand and with a roar of hate the boy vanished.

He reappeared right beside the man and swung with all his might right to the man's temple. He grabbed the girl and ducked under the barrier. Moody watching with his magical eye saw the boy hold open a flap on the floor letting them run away. He read the lips as the boy told them to run to the other hideout and take the loot to get food. The girls protested but he hugged them with his arm and pushed them down the hole.

When Kingsley got his wand and vanished the bola he saw the unconscious form of Dawlish and the grinning Moody. "It looks like we found our thief but we had it wrong. He is a kid using his magic to protect the other kids and steal from local criminals… Shit! Grab Dawlish and get out of here now." The man complied and as he apperated outside and watched as the building started to rip apart in a storm of pure raw magic. Moody landed next to him and both eyebrows raised at the sight. When it ended the building was leveled and only the boy standing in the center of the devastation.

Breathing hard he aimed his pipe at the men. " Leave.. Us .. alone. Take that piece of shit with you… that girl.. We saved her from men like him. Ones with that fowl thing on his arm. You just made her relive that … go away." The boy disappeared, leaving the two men in shock.

"Master Auror Moody.. What the hell was that?" Moody looked at him and frowned. "That I believe was the missing Harry Potter."

Back at the second hideout, Harry appeared and collapsed. The others ran to him and helped him up. The girl he rescued hugged him and cried as he wrapped his arm around her. "Shh.. it's ok...I hit him really good in the head. Sam, did we get all the loot?"

"Yeah Bandit, But we lost the dinner since you had to bring the place down. I can pass out some bread and fruit but we need a real meal soon. How's the arm holding up?"

"It's Harry to all of you. It's fine, just sore and my little tantrum took a lot out of me. I think those were different from the others like me. Only the one I bashed had that mark. The other two looked upset when I mentioned he had it too. Come on, let's get to the safe room and get some rest. I'll seal the wall and stay with you."

As they slept Moody was talking with his boss, Director Amelia Bones. He explained the stake out and how he followed the girl. When he told of the fight, the woman was shocked that a child was so skilled in combat. She was even more shocked when he said the boy silently apperated beside Dawlish and nearly took his head off in rage. The fact Moody's eye saw magic swirling around the boy was not missed.

"I used some old counter spells and saw the mark myself. Dawlish is in suppressor cuffs and being interrogated about it at the moment. Ma'am, when the boy was focusing his magic to destroy the place, I saw his head. There is no mistaking it, That was Harry Potter."

Bones cursed and glared at the grizzle and scarred man. " I want you to track him now that you have the signature. Just locate him. I will need to see if we can approach him in a less hostile manner. Good work Moody. Now go see if the ex-Auror can give any names of fellow marked and unknown deatheaters here in the department."

Harry knew they were being watched and he sensed the hidden people not far from the hideout. They did not approach nor did they do anything to the place. He decided to get the others to the safe room to sleep one night and went out to the edge of the trees. " I know you're there, What do you want?" The first to appear was the scared man with the staff. Then a female with both hands up and open.

The man spoke. " I am Master Auror Moody of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement or DMLE for short. I want to finish our match and see what you can really do. However My boss wants to talk with you." The woman looked him over and gasped. "He really does look like James Potter."

Harry stiffened as he heard the name and held his pipe in a firm grip. "How..how do you know the name Potter. Why are you bothering us?" Moody glared at the woman and then sighed.

"Look. If you are Harry Potter then you have been missing for years and certain people of our world are looking for you…."

The boy growled. "Old man with a long beard and a really bad fashion sense? Yeah you can go and shove that staff right up his arse. He tried to keep me with those damned monsters in human skin. I will not go back there and I hope they are rotting in jail or worse…"

"CALM DOWN!...I see that we both need to step back and right now I want to know the truth. What happened to you? Last anyone heard was you were in a safe location till four years ago and then your magical Guardian says you're missing and calling for a search. What is really going on?" Moody gazed at the boy seeing the magical energies swirling just under the surface.

Harry breathed deeply and slowly relaxed. "They need to be safe, I can't keep getting them so close to danger just to keep food in their bellies and shelter over their heads. We are not going to let the system hurt us anymore. Each of us were sent back to our abusers time and again by the system. I want the best but I can only do so much." He absently rubbed his left shoulder. Moody sucked in a breath as he saw the familiar signs of limb pains in the boy.

"Call Me Moody. And I will bring you some food if you let us stay out here for a few more days. Only my boss and four of her most trusted know where this is. I won't force you to come with us till I get more answers. I want to know the truth." He was about to walk away before Harry called out. "Number 4 privet Drive Little Whinging Surrey."

They parted at that and Moody went right back to Bones. After some discussion Bones had some Groceries gathered for Moody to take back. She herself had to head home to her niece just to see if she would help.

88888888888

The day crept in and as the kids came out of the safe room they saw a couple bags with food in them. Herry let his magic flow over them and cleared it to be safe. After a light breakfast the boys did some sparring and the girls found some magazines to read and write on. They then found some stashed paper and pens and started to do other school stuff like maths. Moody was watching through the wall with his 'eye' when Director Bones arrived With her niece and some clothes in bags. He told her to approach slowly and loudly but also to wait to get too close. The oldest boy was very protective of the others.

She did so and waited a ways away from the entrance.." Umm Hello? I was told to bring some clothes for the girls here. I mean no harm, I was asked to come talk with all of you." She waited till Harry came out, Scowling.

"Who sent you!"

The girl pointed to a stern looking woman with a Monocle and greying reddish hair. "My aunt is the Director of the DMLE. She was told about your.. Current situation. She wants to give an olive branch to start at least some communications. As I am ten years old as well, she thought you would give me a chance? Oh here are some dresses for the girls. I was told theirs were worn out and it will be getting colder soon." She placed the bag on the ground and stepped back watching as he scanned it with his magic.

The boy nodded and took it back inside. When he returned he was smiling, if barely. "They say thank you but…. Can I ask for another branch… one of them is weak and her heath has not improved, I have tried many medications but it's not doing much to heal her. I can barely keep her well with my own .. magic … you called it."

"I'm Susan, Susan Bones. I can ask my Aunt if she can bring a healer to look at the child. If you allow it?" He nodded as she walked over to the woman. Soon orders were shouted and after a minute or three a new woman arrived in an old nurses uniform and a very clear frown.

When the woman approached Harry drew his pipe and wind picked up around him. Susan stood between the healer and the building whispering harshly at her. As Harry calmed down the woman glared at him. "I am a healer. Like your muggle doctors. I am called to check on a sick child but the very fact they are in this dump is most likely the reason the child is sick…"

"Do you talk down to all your patients that way? Do you expect me to let some arrogant and privileged snot of a person near my family. If you want to do your job then do it somewhere else. Susan I know you just warned her but since she did not listen then she will not come near Lily, send her away before I do."

Director Bones had already closed the gap and pulled the fuming woman back to the tree line. After a few words the woman scowled and left. The older Bones stepped up again but kept Susan just ahead of her as a distance line. "Mr Potter, I apologize for her behavior. She will not return and she just lost her contract with my Department to aid in medical needs. I ask that you allow one of my Auror to at least come near the girl to do basic field medic scans and see if we can determine what is wrong with the girl." Two other women stepped out to show who they were. Harry rubbed his shoulder again and called back to the doorway.

A few minutes later the girl was led out wrapped in blankets. Beside her were the others, each holding different weapons. 'Sam, stay close and if it looks like they are doing something bad, Take them out." Harry kept his pipe in a defensive grip and watched as the women slowly approached the girls. They slowly did weird movements with their sticks and the girl seemed to relax a bit.

One of them turned back to the Director. "She's a squib, her core is bound and it's hurting her from within. We will need to get her to a medical ward to safely remove it…" She turned to the Boys who were growling. " I want your permission to check all of you for this. If you are also squibs then we can help you."

Susan saw how the boys were getting upset and then cursed. " Healer! These children do not know our wording. Please calmly explain what a squib is." The woman looked at the boys and gulped. Then very carefully explained about magicals and those with very little magic being squibs. She then explained about bindings and why it was dangerous for those with little magic like the girl.

Harry held his pipe at the woman and told her to check Sam first. When he nodded and let her do the same movements she sighed, "He is also a squib but no binding. He does have lots of injuries and malnutrition." When she did the other three girls the result was the same as Sam's save for the last. The woman flared her magic causing Harry to react and a red spell flew from his pipe and stunned the woman. The other one was staying still with her hands in the air barely holding her wand.

The Aurors were about to storm them when Susan whistled, startling everyone. "Your name is Harry right? When that woman got upset at something her scan found she reacted. She didn't mean to do it as an attack. Will you let the other one wake her so we can know what was wrong?" Harry and Sam took deep breaths and Harry nodded to the other one.

Once the Auror was awakened she shook her head. "Wow, I've been stunned before but that one was a real doozy, I'm sorry about that. I found evidence of a crime most foul upon a woman let alone a child. Director I suggest getting all of these kids to a safe house and letting them rest before any questions. I also really suggest one with a med ward. That binding needs to be loosened at least and soon. We can remove it after they trust us."

Harry looked at the others who all went back near the door. Sam and Harry seemed to argue but finally relented a bit and agreed to something. The girls then talked and looked upset but agreed. Harry returned as the other went back inside.

Harry looked at the director with a cold gaze that should never belong to a child. "I want your word, No one will separate us, No one will try to harm them and that loathsome devil of a goat faced bastard will never be allowed near me without someone else there you trust. You were willing to let your family be close to us without knowing if we would harm her. That is what trust is built on."

"Agreed Mr Potter, now where did they go if you're willing to come with us?" The director looked confused till the other Five came out with old luggage cases and some bags.

Harry put his pipe away and took his case from Sam. Before he walked up he heard the scarred man laugh. " So how long have you been sporting that injury, Potter?" The woman who was looking over the girl called Lily looked at the boy and slowly held up her wand. Harry backed up growling but the four girls all stood to his side whispering to him. He relented and put his case down. Once the woman started casting her scans she gasped and fell to her knees.

"His..His arm…." She just stood up and walked away till she got to the director who whispered to her then turned to Harry in shock. "I.. I see, well come on then I will create a port key to a very safe location. Just please be calm when you get there. Magical travel is not very pleasant the first time and I will get a healer who will have better manners to help the young lady."

Harry nodded and watched as she did something over a long stick from the ground. "Since you're holding your case I will have to hold your waist to be sure you're included, the others only need to touch the branch and it will take us to the destination." They did so and soon spun away into nothingness. Moody ordered them to pack up and head back but he did give the place a once over. He was surprised to see it was well defended and they did clear out most of their stuff. He conjured a box and packed the rest for them and placed a notice-me-not on the building.

888888888888888

The spinning stopped and they fell into a pile save for Harry who quickly spun out of the woman's grip and away from the others. When she stood up and helped the others he pushed himself up and kept some distance. They looked around and saw the entrance way of some grand building. It wasn't over opulent but the size and design was not for a common home.

The girls were in awe and Sam was looking at the exits and pathways. Harry took a deep breath and let his magic roll out and around them. He turned looking at the corner with a cautious gaze. "What are you?"

The others turned to see what he saw but nothing was there till Susan looked around and chuckled. "Milla we have guests who don't know about the magical world properly, would you come out and greet them?"

The others jumped when an odd looking creature with long bat-like ears and large eyes appeared out of nowhere. "I am Milla, the Bones family house elf. I will be helping you if you need and will treat you as a guest of the house." The thing was wearing a small dress with some kind of emblem on the front. "Milla can feel lots of magic from this one, he can even find Milla when she is staying out of sight."

"This one is called Harry...Harry Bandit. That's Sam, Lily, Marie, Anna and Tali. You are not a threat just… I don't know. Thank you for the greeting."

Susan was giggling as the others looked on in confusion. When Susan reached for Harry's left side he quickly dodged and scowled. Director Bones saw this and pinched her nose. "Harry, that is twice I have seen you avoid contact with that side, I know about your...injury but what else is the reason to be protective of that side?"

He looked at Susan and sighed. "It's not pretty but I had to protect myself if someone tried to grab me." He carefully unzipped the hoodie then slid the left arm down. Susan and Amelia gasped as they saw the fake arm with sharp metal pieces sticking out toward the area people would grab. " I did not want anyone to get hurt when we landed. Now we need to get Lily somewhere to lay down...please."

Susan turned to the house elf and smiled. "Milla, can you get some warm soup made for our guests? We will eat in one of the bedrooms and let this one rest till the family Healer arrives. Show her up when she does, ok?" The elf nodded with a smile and disappeared. Turning to the others. " Welcome to Bones Manor, our home. This is the safest place auntie could choose and it has plenty of bedrooms. It's just Auntie and me here besides the other house elves so let me show you to the rooms and you can pick where you want to sleep."

Sam narrowed his eyes at the place. "Awfully big for just the two of you?" Sam looked at the two redheads. "Is that because you are the last of the family?" On the reply Sam apologised. Harry was still on the defensive but he was less aggressive.

After being led to a room across from Susan's, they let Lily and the girls take a bath in the ensuite then got her into the warm bed. A little later a table with bowls of soup appeared with chairs and a small bed tray for Lily. Susan watched as Harry waved his hand over it all and cleared it. He also fed the small girl before he even ate.

The older redhead one returned with another woman who looked less stern but very worried. The Director looked them over. My full name is Regent Amelia Bones of the House of Bones. You can call me Amelia or Auntie Amy while in this house. This is Healer Worthington, She has been the family Healer.. Err doctor since i was a teen. She will not talk to anyone outside of this room about what is found or done here. Will you allow her to help Lily?"

Harry walked up to the woman barely coming to her ribs and let his magic flow over her. " She is ok, no marks, and she has a good feeling about her." As he backed up he rubbed his shoulder again. She looked at the boy with a frown.

"After I care for the young lady, I must insist on looking at that arm. I have treated Mad-eye for the same symptoms when he first lost his leg. I know the signs of infection when I see it and I can get it to go away with a spell and a potion." The other looked at Harry with worried faces.

"Lily first, please. Then we will discuss it." The Healer agreed reluctantly and walked over to the girl in bed. " Hello, My name is Camilla, a flower like your name. I want to help you but first I will explain what I am doing so you will not be worried…." She did so loud enough for the others to hear. She explained about the stick called a wand and how it helps focus magic. Then she held out a bottle of strange liquid. "This is a potion to ease the pain and let you sleep. It will be easier if you are asleep to loosen the binding and if it is weak enough I can remove it. That will not be pleasant so I must insist on the potion." Harry stepped forward but the healer stopped him.

"The potion may not work right if you do that thing with your magic. I will tell you as a healer I made a Vow on my life and magic to never harm a patient and especially a child. Please give me a bit of trust on this?" Harry looked to the others then nodded. He watched the girl drink it down and made a face. "Yes it is very bad tasting but it works." Lily drifted to sleep and the healer waved her stick over the girl's cold stomach. Soon the girl seemed to relax but tensed for a bit then relaxed again. The healer was sweating a bit as she moved away from the girl.

"Madam Bones. Children, I have removed the binding and she will need rest for a couple days to let her magic settle. Also she needs to take nutrient potions for the next month, all of you do, please. Now mr…?"

"Bandit, Harry Bandit. They started calling me the One armed Bandit because of all the skills I have with just one arm." He slowly removed his hoodie with help from Anna. Everyone watched as he removed the harness and detached his fake arm. The healer was not happy to see the Offensive addition but even more unhappy at the discoloration of the flesh just under his shoulder.

She slowly approached and waved her wand over the wounded arm and hissed. "I can clear it up but you will have to drink a potion as well and I will need to come back to get all of you your immunization shots for magical disease. If you have this level of infection then you are in danger of getting a magical disease as well. Now this will hurt but it needs to be done to clean it out. Is that ok?" Harry looked around and agreed. He gritted his teeth a bit but never made a sound. The healer looked very worried and cast two more spells on the boy. "Mr. Bandit! Your body is on the verge of exhaustion and very low on magic. You need to be in bed as well. I was told not to separate you so please let them get you a second bed in here and lay down" The healer looked panicked but stayed professional.

She turned to Madam Bones. "He has severe Infection in his bloodstream, several broken bones are improperly set and his nerves are basically being overridden by his magic at all times. I have only seen this level of damage and defense in torture victims. I don't know how but this child is in worse shape than Mad-eye has ever been in."

Bones nodded and called for a house elf to bring two more beds into the room. She told them they could all sleep in this room till they felt ok enough to use other rooms. She looked at Harry and pointed to one of the beds. " I give you my word, on my blood and my honor, you will be safe here and you can rest in peace." Harry nodded and two steps to the bed he collapsed. The other ran to him but the healer walked up and lifted him to the bed. She told them he was simply exhausted and it finally caught up to him.

Susan and the women left them to get washed up and in bed so they could all rest. When the trio got down stairs the healer hugged Amelia and cried into her shoulder. " Amy.. that boy was in so much pain for so long but he was acting as if it was normal. He was trying to stay strong for the others. Where did you find them? He even has a large concentration of very dark magic near his head.. Don't think I did not see the scar when I picked him up. And that too is also not good. He was so light he barely even registered in my arms as holding a child."

Bones frowned. " Yes he is the missing Potter, we found him protecting those kids during an investigation, We also know the oldest girl was being sexually assaulted. All we have is his statement that the ones who did it had the dark mark and are no longer an issue. Please remember to keep this quiet. We will start to integrate them into wizarding society but we need to be quiet about it. Susan, I have to head back but I want you and the elves to keep an eye on them." The other two agreed and she left by tossing powder into the fireplace and stepping into the green flames.. Soon the healer did as well.

Susan went back up to the bedrooms and found a couple books to read as she sat in a chair in the now occupied room. She was drifting off to sleep when an elf woke her telling her it was dinner. She looked at the others in the room and asked the elf to bring it up again. Once the food arrived the children woke to the wonderful smell. They looked at the sleeping Harry and the food worriedly.

Susan sighed and asked if they would trust her that the food was safe. She told them that Harry needed to rest and that the house elves would bring him food when he woke up. They had a whispered meeting and agreed. Sam fed Lily in the bed as the others sat with Susan at the table. Anna, the oldest, looked at the book in Susan's chair. Susan told her to eat first then she could read it if she wished. Anna frowned. "We can read but still need help, Harry is very smart and taught us to read and write and even math and other school things. He would find learning books to help us. Do… Do you have any children's books?" Susan smiled and agreed to bring some up. She also agreed to help them with the reading and writing if they wished.

The girls were very hesitant but since Harry approved of the stranger they would try it. Sam returned to the table to eat and looked around at the room. "Susan, I need to know more about this..Wizarding world. We all do. Harry can get caught up but there is so much we don't understand. The whole wand thing, being a.. Squib..even, and who is this 'Mad-eye' the healer was talking about?"

Susan chuckled, "Remember the old man with the staff and lots of scars? He even has a fake leg. That is Alastor 'Mad-eye' Moody, due to that magic eye of his constantly spinning around in his head. He is very aggressive and cautious, his favorite saying is to yell 'Constant Vigilance'. He only Trusts healer Worthington and my Aunt over anyone else. He will even be defensive around you as well. There was a war among the magicals… Let me explain the House system and then the stupidity of 'Pureblood"... "

The other tensed at that word and Anna seemed to zone out. The others hugged her to get her to recover. Susan apologised for whatever she said to cause that. Anna was still holding Tali and Marie as she nodded. " I was taken from my orphanage. Two or three years ago. The men had those wands and a tattoo on their arms. They…" she spaced a bit but shook her head clear. "Harry arrived and all I remember was the men were gone, they were not there and the walls looked different. Harry led me out of the basement and out of a massive hole in the side of the building. We got away before the police showed up. He had given me odd bathrobes he found in the building to cover with as he led me to the hideout. Sam was his first rescue. They helped me out of my numb state. Soon we rescued Tali, Marie and finally Lily. She was being kept in a weird house no one noticed. We knew she was not well but Harry healed us so he tried to heal her.

Amelia Bones was just outside the door listening to the story. She was not happy this was happening and she needed answers. The fact they would open to Susan was a good sign but she knew it was a fragile trust.
