The smell of diesel fuel consumed the city streets with the slight undertone of food from nightly street vendors. Peter slipped his mask up above his nose to sniff the familiar musk of his city as he perched among the gargoyles on the rooftop.
"Looks like the quakes have finally stopped..." Peter murmured as he let his legs dangle off the edge. The odd earthquakes had made headline news for a solid week and had kept Peter on edge. His senses spiked like a seismometer every time they made an appearance. Something didn't feel right but if they were done Peter wasn't going to pursue further. Turning his head to the side Peter gripped his saging messenger bag pulling out a lukewarm hot dog wrapped in foil. Unwrapping the dog, Peter watched as a couple of teenagers exited a movie theater laughing about a scene.
"Hmm maybe I should ask Ned,Gwen, and MJ if they would like to go see that new movie next week.." Peter hummed looking around at another couple hugging onto each other. As he wrapped up the rest of the hot dog Peter messaged his temple as he felt a ping from his spider senses . As predicted a ground shuddering tremor crawled up from below him. "Another quake?" Peter looked around as people below him gripped onto anything they could grasp. A blur of vibrant twitching cracks marred the road. Peter jumped down from his post pulling people away from the twitching veins that branched out from the road cracks. Bystanders pushed past him to get away from the large growing tendrils.
'Woah watch it!" Peter yelled among the panic only to get pushed down hitting his head on a discarded glass bottle. groaning Peter felt his spider sense go off again as the twitching galaxy colored veins circle around him. Peter felt the platform giveaway underneath him as he slid down into the twitching abyss.
"N-no." Peter weakly grabbed for the edge of the rift only to have it crumble at his fingertips. The next thing he felt was the sudden drop into the darkness below. Through blurry vision, Peter watched as the rifts opening paused, slowly retracting itself to close what it started. In a last ditch effort Peter flicked his wrist up watching as the white string from his web shooters propelled upwards towards a leaning lamp post. Peter's body jerked as the small white string held him in place. Looking up, Peter's heart jumped into his throat as the lamp post slowly slid forward into the crevice. "no,no,no!" Peter whined as he started to climb up his rope watching as the pole tilted closer to the edge. As his hand reached up for another shot out of the rift the pole gave way, sending his other webbing fallinging into another crack.
"Someone help!" Peter cried out as he tried to detach himself from the pole. As he fell further into the twitching rift he watched as the portal above him mended, sending a sense of relief and dread into his stomach. A flash of light behind Peter startled him as the feeling of something hard and cold hit the back of his head effectively knocking him out.
