Blueeyeddevil06, thank you for being my beta and working on yet another story for me. You make me a better writer.

They lived in a world where doppelgängers were revered. Damon had originally applied to guard Elena on a dare. He saw her on television and commented on how beautiful she was. His buddy, Enzo, bet if he got to know her she'd be a bitch. The argument that followed resulted in the dare from Enzo for him to get to know her and prove him wrong.

Damon's past was colorful, but while a doppelgänger was important, they weren't guarded by governments. Elena was being held by Klaus Michaelson, arms dealer and jackass.

Damon was still drunk the next morning when he applied for a position to be her bodyguard.

Klaus took a long drink of his scotch and stared at Elena. "You need to lighten up."

"I don't like how your men look at me."

"If they touch you, they die. Lucky for me you're as frigid as they come."

She glared at him. "Ah yes, my precious virgin blood."

"Precisely, my pet. Now, what is it that you're actually 'demanding' this time?"

"Just tell them they can't touch themselves when they're guarding me. It's gross."

Klaus laughed, "You enchant the men, my dear."

"Please," she lowered herself to say. She really wanted him to comply.

"Fine, I'll order them to behave. Just know when they go home, it's you they think about when they -"

"I get it!" She yelled. "It's only because I'm untouchable. I'm forbidden, and that entices them."

He shook his head in humor. "Keep telling yourself that."

Damon had been bored years ago and consented to work for a mob boss in Boston. As a vampire, he made an excellent hitman and his reputation in the underworld grew. When his name popped up, Elijah, Klaus' right hand man and brother brought him the news.

"Damon's looking for a job."

"And that interests me because...?"

"He wants to guard Elena."

Klaus' head popped up from the paperwork he was looking at. "What's the catch?"

"I don't know. That's your specialty. I thought you'd want to be informed."

He pondered the development. "He'll want some of her blood. Normally, I'd never allow that, but he's more than qualified. I'll meet with him and see what he wants."

"You'll only be able to drink from her once a week."

Damon sat back, keeping calm. He didn't know why he'd want to drink from her other than the obvious reasons. Problem was Klaus was acting like it was a big deal.

"That wasn't an opening to negotiation," Klaus insisted. "It's all I'll allow, and the increased abilities you get will make it easy to monitor."

He pretended like he was pondering the idea. Increased abilities? That he didn't know about.

What he said was, "If we can come to terms on the rest of it, I'll agree to that stipulation."

Klaus smiled. He knew he was being more than generous with his offer, but he needed her well guarded. He wasn't the only one who wanted her blood, and Damon was ruthless.

When Damon shook his hand and stood, Klaus was actually smiling. Then he added, "Oh, and she has to stay a virgin. Guard that, too, with your life."

Damon called Enzo as soon as he left. "What the hell does doppelgänger blood do when you drink it? Klaus said I could once a week." He added as an afterthought, "I hope I get it from the vein."

"What are you talking about, mate?"

"He said it would give me increased powers."

"I'm calling Bonnie, I'll find out what she says."

Enzo lied about calling Bonnie, but he wasn't ready to tell Damon yet. Right now, she was glaring at him. "Really?! You answered the phone!"

He looked down at her naked body with his cock in her and looked contrite. "He had an interview."

She threw his phone across the room and raked her nails over his back. "Doppelgänger blood unlocks new powers in vampires that drink it. Pull that shit again, I'm going to give you the worst headache of your life."

"I won't do that again, my sexy witch." He then began thrusting into her. "I'll make it up to you."

Damon was sitting in the conference room being briefed on guarding Elena. He was half paying attention when they said, "Make sure she doesn't escape." That got his attention.

"Escape?" He asked, sitting forward in his seat. "She's a flight risk?"

"Yeah, well… she objects to being, in her words, a 'blood bag with legs'."

The other guy in the room laughed and amended, "Sexy legs."

"True."

Damon brought everything back on point, "So I guard her from others and escape."

"Exactly. And since you're a powerful vampire, Klaus is trusting you to do just that."

"Why not compel her?"

"Doppelgängers can't be compelled." He then handed over a pamphlet. "And here's a list of the other things that make her exceptional."

"Thanks," Damon's eyes flicked to the pages, reading quickly. Damn, no wonder Klaus kept her at such a high monetary cost. Her blood was incredibly powerful. Bonnie, Elonzo's secret girlfriend, was going to find this fascinating.

He was right. Bonnie was incredibly excited over what she was reading. "If this is true, with the way things work, she's more powerful than he's admitting."

"How do you know that?"

"The way magic works. I can't believe it's her blood that's in the secret liquid they sell to make spells stronger. They're probably diluting it for public use. His witch would have access to incredible power though."

"Don't you use that?" Enzo asked.

"Not anymore. Not with the way Damon was ordered to keep her from running away. It's not like I really need it anyway."

Damon liked her for her confidence. It wasn't bragging when she said it, just fact. She was incredibly powerful and from a long line of prestigious Bennett witches.

She then looked at Damon, "Are you really going to be one of her captors?"

He rolled his eyes, "You know me, I don't play well with others. Klaus is expecting me to betray him. Why disappoint?"

Enzo said, "Because he'll be on guard."

"It adds to the challenge. Make plans to hide her. We'll take our time. Bonnie, that means you need to do your witchy voodoo crap to keep her hidden."

Elijah walked into Klaus' office. "So you trust him?"

"No, I'm not a fool. I'd rather have my enemy in my pocket than in the shadows. Once he's intrigued, he's relentless. Now I can keep a close eye on him."

"And let him drink from her? That will give him more power."

"My witch can track her blood, even when it's out of her body."

Elijah smiled, "And after drinking her blood, it would stay in him for a week."

"Exactly."

Elena went back to practicing the piano. She didn't love learning, but it passed the time. As her fingers played the melody by muscle memory, she thought of her desire to escape.

The problem was, even if she got away, it wouldn't last long, and it would anger Klaus. When she disobeyed him and made him angry, he'd drain extra blood from her, leaving her weak and unable to move.

He reminded her constantly that she was powerless. She hated the feeling.

In her dreams, she would run away and find a new life, locate her brother, and eventually find a man to fall in love with. They would live by the ocean and she would take long walks along the beach with her love hand in hand. It made her long for things she couldn't have. Her gilded cage had locks and bars on it. Ones that blocked out a chance of happiness.

She finished her song and heard clapping. She turned and stared into the blue eyes of the most gorgeous man she'd ever seen.
