The Oberon (Code Geass x Fairy Tail)

Prologue

[~][~]

It was nighttime at Ashford Academy and all students are already asleep. Except for two who are living in the clubhouse. Lelouch Lamperouge, a raven-haired teen with violet eyes, entered a bedroom. Sitting next to a bed in a wheelchair is a girl with honey-blonde hair dressed in a yellow nightgown. She is his little sister, Nunnally Lamperouge. Unlike the other students, they lived here because of the grace of their mother's friends, the Ashfords.

"Alright Nunnally, it's time for bed," Lelouch said as he helps his little sister get to bed. He lifts her out of the wheelchair in a bridal carry and lowers her on the bed. It became something of a routine for him every day throughout the school years. He had just pulled the covers over her when she spoke up.

"Big brother…?" Nunnally asked, causing the older teen to look at her. "Can you tell me a story…like when you used to when we were younger?"

Lelouch grimaced. He remembered the time where he and Nunnally still lived at Aries Villa. When they laughed and played in the guard. Where Lelouch would make a crown of flowers for her to wear. Especially her innocent eyes as she begged him to tell her a story and her excited sparkling smile as he told her trifling stories. If she told him that he could see that dear smile once again, he will do everything in his power to grant her wish. If only to soothe her battered heart for when she sleeps.

"Alright," Lelouch said, taking a book off a nearby shelf and pulling up a chair so he could sit next to her bed. "Which would you like to hear? How about your favorite? Alice's Adventures in Wonderland?"

"No."

"No?" Lelouch was taken aback by his sister's blunt answer. Nunnally loved the works of Lewis Carroll. He puts the book back and takes another. "Okay, then how about Jack and the Beanstalk?"

"Not that one."

"Fantastic Mr. Fox?"

"No."

"Cinder-Maid?"

"I'd love to hear that at some other time."

"Well, what do you want to hear?" Lelouch asked with a frown.

"I want to hear a new one," Nunnally said. "You always make up new tales for me to hear. I want to hear one of those stories."

Lelouch was silent for that.

"You know I don't do that anymore," Lelouch said, lowering his gaze.

"I know, but please? For me…?"

The silence was his only answer, but Nunnally waited for a story. To be honest, ever since their arrival in Japan and the invasion, all his thoughts were focused on fulfilling his promise to a childhood friend. That he would destroy Britannia and the man who abandoned them. He couldn't tell Nunnally all that. The last thing he would want is for her to be scarred further.

Wait a minute…what if he were to spin a tale about those times…

"Okay, I have one," Lelouch said with Nunnally's face lighting up with joy. "It's like Alice but with a male protagonist. But I must warn you…it can get a little sad. You might not want to hear all of it."

"You worry too much big brother," Nunnally scolded. "I can handle anything."

"Okay. Just remember, you said you can handle it," Lelouch warns as he cleared his throat to begin the tale. "Once upon a time, there was a prince. He lived in a grand castle with a beloved family. He and his sister played with their mother, the queen, in a beautiful garden. That castle was like the only world they knew, and they were happy."

"What he didn't know was that his father the king was a cruel tyrant," Lelouch's face became twisted with anger. "He would take whatever he didn't belong to him and held no love for anyone. Not even his wives and family. All it took was one tragic day for him to realize it. On that day, his mother was unjustly murdered, and his sister was crippled. But his father didn't care. When the prince confronted him, he banished him and his beloved sister for his impudence."

"Sound a lot like our father," Nunnally mumbled sadly. It took everything he had to restrain himself. He no longer viewed that man as his father. Taking a deep breath, he continued the story.

"Exiled from their home, they fled to the land of the east. They met a squire of a noble household that took them in. The squire didn't like the prince at first. But in time, they became the best of friends. Unfortunately, tragedy struck again when their father invaded the land of the east. Within a month, the land of the east fell under his domain."

"Just like when Japan became Area 11," Nunnally mumbled.

"I know," Lelouch said. Hopefully, she hasn't figured it out. "I can stop if you want."

"No! Keep going!" Nunnally insisted. "I want to hear the rest."

"Okay," Lelouch let out a bitter smile. "The squire and the prince went their separate ways. He and his sister the princess found old friends of their mother to take them in. But once again, something happened."

"What happened?" Nunnally asked.

"The prince has been whisked away to wonderland," Lelouch said, drawing a small gasp from Nunnally.

"Wonderland?" Nunnally asked.

"Yes…wonderland like in Alice's adventures," Lelouch said with a smile. "But it gets a lot darker. You see, the prince found himself in the company of the squid men."

"Squid men?" Nunnally asked. "You mean one of those animals with the slimy tentacles?"

"Yep. Just imagine people who have squid for heads. Anyway, the squid men wanted to eat his…I mean, turn him into one of them. The prince didn't want that, so he fought back and managed to escape from their tentacles. The squid men lived underground in the darkness so he tried escaping to the surface so he can reunite with his sister in the land of the east…but he found out the truth that the wonderland is divided between two lands…Underland and Overland."

"He couldn't get home…" Nunnally said sadly in realization. "What happened to the prince? Did the squid men catch him?"

"They did. The prince fell into despair when he realized he couldn't get home. He allowed the Squid men to take him. But then…"

"What happened?" Nunnally asked. If Nunnally could open her eyes, they would've been wide with anticipation.

"He was saved by a fairy," Lelouch answered with a smile. The gasp that came from Nunnally made it worthwhile.

"A fairy?" Nunnally asked breathlessly.

"Yes, a fairy saved the young prince," Lelouch said warmly. "The fairy didn't just fight off the squid men…he even saved the prince from the pits of despair. After the battle, the fairy took the prince to a kingdom full of fairies. He stayed there until he can find a way back to his world. Throughout the years, it became something…no, it became a home to him. A home that is much better than the one the cruel tyrant had offered."

His words are filled with warm emotion. Briefly, a smile crept onto his face. One that isn't false and didn't try to hide it. It warmed his sister's heart that the prince found a home. He may not be real Nunnally listened intently as her brother continued the story. But then, she began to feel sleepy.

"On his quest to return home, he met a colorful cast of characters in the kingdom of fairies," Lelouch continued, his smile becoming more genuine as he did. "A dragon…a snowman…a knight…a celestial gatekeeper…a flying cat…and many more. Together, they took on many adventures throughout Wonderland. Side by side they fought against monsters and those that threatened their kingdom. He even met a few people that were taken from his world. They were like a new family to him…a genuine family. One day, he found a way to go back to his world. But…"

Lelouch's smile turned upside down as his face fell. When he continued speaking, the warmth is replaced by a mournful side that he never showed to anyone. At that moment, his hands begin to give off a soft red glow.

"The prince found out that…he had grown to love his newfound family…" Lelouch said, his voice becoming filled with sadness and breaking. "The days he spent with them…we're the happiest days of his life. More so than the life he had before the tragedy that took his mother and crippled his sister. He didn't want to leave…but…he knew that he still had things to do in his world…and he had to get back to his sister…so with a heavy heart, he went back to his world…"

Lelouch let that sentence trail off. He couldn't continue speaking because he feared that he would break down. What was intended to be a fairy tale for Nunnally ended up reminding him of the heart-breaking decision to leave his family. The family that he truly loved as much as he did Nunnally. It took all he had to contain his tears as he wiped his nose with his arm. His eyes widened when he saw the glowing flesh.

"Crap!" Lelouch cursed as he took deep breaths to recompose himself. The glow begins to become dim with every breath. Finally, it faded altogether, letting Lelouch relax with a release of breath.

"That was close," Lelouch breathed out. Part of him was glad that Nunnally couldn't see him right now. Otherwise, he would have to give her an honest explanation as to why his flesh is glowing. He couldn't lie to his sister. Somehow, she can always tell when he's lying by grasping his hand.

He turned to face Nunnally, only to find her asleep. It seemed that his story put her to sleep. Which is good as he didn't want to expose the truth about his disappearance, which happened to involve the story he told her. Not that she remembered, which greatly pained him. But it was necessary when she was nearing her breaking point. With a small smile, he leaned down until his face is close to hers.

"Good night Nunnally," Lelouch whispered as he got up and walked to the door. He turned off the light as he exits the door. The raven-haired teen leaned back against it. Lifting his left hand, he recalled the memories of his time there.

First came the bad ones, which involved the squid men that he told Nunnally. That was all he was going to tell her. If he had to tell her the truth, she would be suffering nightmares like he did. Not after the abominable things that he saw them create and tried to turn him into. He had to resist the urge to cover his left eye where that thing entered his head. Luckily, he didn't go through the change. What he gained through that experience is the power that will allow him to accomplish his goal of destroying Britannia and finding his mother's enemies.

His anger and fear faded when he remembered the people who managed to melt the ice within his heart. People he fought, ate, and even laughed with. A hot-headed pink-haired idiot who demanded that Lelouch fight him every single time he came to the guildhall. A black-haired idiot who clashed with the hot head whilst stripping. A red-haired woman in armor with a great sense of justice would often break them up and try to keep order within the guild while hypocritically causing disorder herself. Even the feared getting on her bad side. And the newest addition to the family, a blonde-haired girl who he admired for her stance against her father. More faces flew across his mind. The last one was that of a diminutive elderly man who gave off a grandfatherly vibe. He remembered the last words he said to him before he left for this world.

"Don't say goodbye…"

On the back of his hand is the tattoo of a black fairy with a tail.

Greetings and welcome to the new year readers.

This is something that has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to get done as I update my other fics before I can focus on building my life. This was only to be a glimpse at a potential crossover that I had in mind. I mean, that's why it's called a prologue, right?

I'm going to add a slightly different twist. I'm not going to give any spoilers because I'm such an incorrigible tease. All that I can say is that Lelouch has a unique circumstance for being a wizard and it's not the fact that he's a dimensional drifter. Any guesses as to who the squid men are?

Thank you for reading and let me know what you think. Who knows, maybe I can update this before I take on the journey of building my life. I can make no promises though.

Until Next Time.
