Kaden lost everything when Tachyon attacked. His wife, his son, his best friend. Almost his life, too. He should be thankful he's still alive, but an unfortunate set of circumstances has left him separated from his son, who is stranded in another dimension, all alone. He swears that he will reunite with him one day, but when will that day come? (AU)

1. Preface

Hello, dear reader, and thanks for checking out my little fanfic. I just wanted to take this moment to let you know a couple of things going into this.

First, no, I haven't played Ratchet and Clank before. Not since the PS2 games, at least, and even then the finer details are a little fuzzy. So, if there are a couple of things I have somehow overlooked, misconstrued, or outright missed in my research via the wiki and YouTube, sorry about that.

Second, this is my first time posting things on AO3, so bear with me if formatting is a little funky. And I'll try to update the tags as I go, but goddamn, there are so many of them that I don't know which ones to use. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Third, I may have a general idea of where the story is going, and prepped some chapters in advance, but it's largely something I'm making up as I go, letting the writing go wherever it takes me, for the most part. So, if you have any ideas for the story ahead, don't be afraid to drop 'em below in the comments, and I'll see if any catch my eye.

Finally, I like to think of this fic as a sort of 'spiritual reboot', shall we say, about another fic by Shell-Shocked-NinjaTurtleGal over on called 'Home'. It was one of those fics that really scratched that one specific itch of 'what if Ratchet met Kaden and his family, who are miraculously alive?' But then, lo and behold, like so many others, it is trapped in limbo, not having been updated for a little over 6 years now. So, I took it upon myself to sort of start over with it. It's far from being a one-to-one remake, by any means, but if you see some analogous elements between the two, well, thought I'd explain where that comes from.

I'm hoping I'm not stepping on any toes here, but then again, the author's last story was updated like 5 years ago, so I think it's fair game at this point. Let me know if it isn't, I guess.

And also, I don't have plans in abandoning this anytime soon, but then again, I don't think anyone plans on doing that, either. But if I ever do, I'll be sure to at least have the courtesy of announcing it.

And, without further ado, let's get into the story. Any criticism is appreciated!
