"Niklaus, this is the first time Elena has faced the horror of human cruelty, just let her be for some time."
"I didn't save her for her brother, I saved her for me, so don't get in the way of me getting what I want from her."
"Niklaus, I won't get in the way of you getting what you want, all I ask, is that you give her some time to heal."
"I healed her with my blood."
"Not that kind of heal Niklaus, I say you give her time to heal the psychological damage that has been done to her."
Klaus eyes the doppelganger sitting in the edge of the swimming pool, hugging her knees and staring into the water.
"Fine brother, I will give her time to heal, and once she starts to take, I will take from her what I want." Klaus leaves from there and Elijah looks at her, feels bad for her, decides to talk to her then drops the thought and leaves.
One week passes by, Elena doesn't say a word, she comes down only for her meals when Klaus sends a hybrid to inform her on the same, she stays mostly in her room, sometimes comes out to just sit by the pool and watch the water.
On the eighth day, she spots Mikael through the window, she has seen a lot, she has been through a lot, all this time she kept wondering why did she survive the crash, why did she survive what led her to this mental stage. Since then, she has just been lost.
Mikael has already broken Rebekah and Elijah's neck, he has compelled Klaus' hybrids like he did on the homecoming dance. On his orders the hybrids are holding Klaus down on his knees, there is blood on his mouth, Mikael is responsible for him. Mikael is gleaming with the sheer joy of what he is about to do as he holds the white oak stake in his hand and pulls it behind before pushing it towards his heart.
The white oak touches the tip of his T-shirt and then the weapon drops from Mikael's hands, his skin turns grayish, veins show up on his skin and he falls to the ground dead, no, not dead he sees, daggered. He looks up and sees Elena standing there, with Mikaels being daggered, his compulsion on the hybrids breaks and they release him.
Elena turns to leave to her room but Klaus speeds to stand before her.
"Why did you save me? Just one flick of his wrist and I would be dead, you would be free, yet, you chose to save me, tell me, were you expecting some reward?" he says the last part mockingly.
"I didn't do it for you." Is all that she says.
"Oh" Klaus appears shocked, "Elena finally spoke."
Elijah and Rebekah wake up, they see Mikael daggered, and the white oak fallen loosely on the ground, Elijah secures the white oak with him. Rebekah gets the details of what happened after her neck broke from the hybrids.
"I didn't do it for you Klaus, I did it for myself."
"And I am supposed to believe that why?"
"Because I am trying to hold to that one thing that keeps me human, even if it means saving you."
A mocking smirk spreads across her lips, "Aww, do I keep you human sweetheart, or I need you human for my own reasons."
"Klaus, after they took me, after they tortured me, they crushed my every belief, I was lost, but today…"
Rebekah slams Elena to a wall, Elijah shows up from behind, "Rebekah you don't have to do this, let her go."
Rebekah doesn't pay heed to her brother and looks deep into Elena's eyes, "Why did you have the dagger?"
Elena blinks, Rebekah repeats her question and Elena blinks again, "Rebekah, I will tell you after you drop me down."
Rebekah is a bit shocked that Elena is not compelled because she knows that they haven't fed Elena a drop of vervain since Niklaus brought him here. Elijah uses this opportunity to push his sister away from Elena, "Make her tell me why she had the dagger Nik, was she planning to dagger us all again."
Klaus' eyes dart up to see someone and that someone comes and pushes Niklaus so hard, he falls across the hall.
"Kol" Rebekah says her brother's name.
"Ah, seeing the look on Niklaus' face tells me he wasn't the one to remove the dagger from me. Then he looks at his two other siblings whose expressions were giving away that it wasn't them either and then he looks at the lovely doppelganger.
"Oh, so it was you Elena. Well thank you for removing the dagger from me but" he looks at Klaus, "I want to get back at Niklaus, so for that I think I will have to turn you. I guess that would be the perfect revenge against Niklaus." He grins
He advances towards Elena but both Rebekah and Elijah hold him down and Klaus is the one who breaks his neck.
"So, you were telling me something Elena, yes, why did you save me?"
"When I saw Mikael from the window, it was an instinct, I knew I was no match for his strength, deception was my only tool. I was so self absorbed in the past week, I was so lost, but when I saw Mikael, I just moved, and I found myself in the room where you keep the coffins, I saw Kol's and when I removed the dagger from him, that is the moment I knew I felt like myself again, so I did what I wanted to do, and I did it, I daggered Mikael. I will not lie to you, I did it because I felt good while doing it.
I didn't do this because I expect any reward from you, I did this because it made me feel like me again."
