AN: I've always enjoyed the concept of this type of story, and decided to try my hand at it. It's one of the sequels to my first story that I mentioned. Hoping you all enjoy it. I don't have this one finished, so please review and give feedback or even ideas of what you might like to see. Working on two other stories at the moment, but felt like getting this one out first. First chapter is mostly the epilogue from the first book, though with some differences, mostly as a start off to the story, but also for a quick refresher.
Chapter 1
Harry smiled as he looked out at all his friends and family in his backyard who had gathered for the first time in years. It's not that they had grown distant, but they all had lives, and while many of them got together often enough, it was rare that all of them were in one place at one time. It was the fourth anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, and they had nearly all of their friends and family present. His backyard was full of Hogwarts Professors, former DA members, former Order members, his now large family, and some of his coworkers, though mainly the ones that had fought in the battle.
Alicia and Jason were chatting with Kingsley, Arthur (Weasley), and Sirius, most likely discussing some of their recent captures. Kingsley and Sirius who were both quite proud of the young couple also enjoyed a smug pride that came every time another country's Ministry had to request their aid.
Alicia and Jason had flame traveled in from Brazil where they'd been for the past couple months hunting some dark wizard and his acolytes that the Brazilian Ministry had contracted them to capture or kill. They had been married for nearly three years and currently traveled the world continuing to learn obscure or different branches of magic while working as free-lance Aurors that foreign Ministries hired to deal with dark witches and wizards or other issues. After the war, Alicia had gone back to St Mungo's to finish her residency while Jason had joined the Aurors to help track down all of Voldemort's supporters that had escaped the war just like they had both planned. They had been engaged within six months and married six months later. Two years after the war, when they both felt the Ministry was fairly back on its feet, they both left their jobs and started traveling the world, taking contracts to help other countries solve their Dark Arts problems creating quite the reputation for themselves despite their age. Between contracts, they'd find new places to take temporary jobs teaching whatever was needed or taking small contracts at local hospitals to try and cure or heal whatever injuries or diseases were present among other things. Harry was quite happy for his friends who always looked like they were having the time of their lives whenever he talked with them via enchanted mirror or was able to meet up with them. They visited often enough, since travel was so easy for them, or made it easy for others to visit them in whatever exotic place they were in on extended holidays.
Kingsley, who was still Minister of Magic, Arthur, who was now Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement (DMLE), Sirius, who was Head Auror, and John (Spinnet), Head of the Hitwizards, were in the process of setting up a mentorship where they'd send a pair of Aurors or Hitwizards to train under the Witcher's for a short time, as well as assist with whatever assignments the couple was working on. It was a highly endorsed concept that was hopefully going to be a reality in the next few months. It certainly helped that at this point the DMLE was basically ran by old Order members, DA, or Harry's friends and family. Frank and Alice Longbottom, Rick Savage, Brian Proudfoot, Dora Lupin, and Alex Witcher were the six top Aurors in the department under Sirius with Percy, Cedric Diggory, Harry, Neville, and Ron being among the most successful aurors in the younger generation. Several DA members which included Susan Bones, Seamus Finnigan, Lavender Brown, and Katie Bell were members of the DMLE in the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol (MLEP), not including the other order members like Hestia Jones who had already been in the department. Even Remus had joined the DMLE once the anti-werewolf legislations had been thrown away allowing him to get a job in the MLEP.
Harry's wife of two years, Ginny, was chatting with Isabelle, Alicia's sister and now Fred's wife Jamie, and Luna. Ginny and Isabelle were still best friends, so she was always so happy to see her friend whenever she was able to come around, or the now two times they had taken a long weekend to visit her. Ginny now had four sisters in law with Bill married to Fleur, George having married Angelina, Percy having married Audrey who he'd been with for the entire war, and Fred having married Jamie. All five got along famously, much to the family's happiness, and were often seen in the company of one or the other. Ginny was now a starting chaser for the Holyhead Harpies Professional Quidditch Team and was proving to be one of the best chasers in the league. While Quidditch was her profession, she still kept up with her studies, even occasionally coming into Auror Headquarters for sparring practice with some of the Senior Aurors who at this point were all friends or basically family. She was one of the first to pick Alicia, Isabelle's, or Jason's mind when they came into town, hoping to start learning some new branch of magic.
George and Angelina got married about a year and half after the war. In her spare time, Angelina helped run Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes with George and Fred, since they now owned a shop in Hogsmeade as well as an international Owl Order business, but for her main career, she was a starting chaser for Puddlemere United. The matches against Holyhead were some of the most fun to watch as well as a giant excuse for a war in the Weasley-Potter-Spinnet-Witcher family.
Fred and Jamie had hit it off near the end of the war before starting to date a few months after its conclusion. They'd been married for about a year now, with Jamie still a reporter for the Daily Prophet, and helping to run Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes in her off time. They had a fun household that only brought the Potters, Spinnets, Witcher's, and Weasley's even closer which was really saying something.
Luna had become a magizooligist and traveled the world helping to conserve magical creature habitats, as well as discover proof of many of the creatures she had always claimed existed. So far, she had already found proof of the Crumpled Horned Snorckack. Hermione received the first copy of the Quibbler with the proof which had everyone, including Hermione, roaring in laughter. She was dating a man named Rolf Scamander who was the grandson of the famous Newt Scamander. He was a nice guy, and Luna was very happy. She still wrote for the Quibbler and wrote one of the more popular segments, "International Travel and Magical Creatures."
Isabelle had come in from China, where she worked as a curse breaker for Gringotts. Whenever she could get time off, she generally would come back to Britain for some time to visit her friends and parents, though she also was known to travel to wherever Jason and Alicia were. Jason and Isabelle still shared a very close bond, and both made sure to visit each other often enough. Isabelle had returned to Hogwarts to achieve a few more NEWTs and Masteries before becoming a curse breaker first for the Ministry, also joining the Ministries Hitwizards allowing her to be right in the action when it came to taking down Voldemort's last supporters or destroying their strongholds and homes defenses. She'd been at the Ministry for roughly a year before she left to join Gringotts, first being stationed in Greece for a year and then being sent off to China where she'd been for roughly a year now.
Bill and Fleur were talking with Molly (Weasley), Sarah (Spinnet), Dora, Andromeda, and Minerva (though Harry struggled to call her that). Bill was carrying their youngest child Dominique, who was just under a year old while they all supervised their oldest, Victoire, playing with Harry's Godson, Teddy. Dora was holding her youngest child, Alyssa, who was near the same age as Dominique.
Bill and Fleur had Victoire on the second anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. Both were still curse breakers for Gringotts, though neither really did much curse breaking anymore, both having more administrative jobs. Molly, who was more than happy to babysit her grandchildren and pseudo grandchildren like Teddy and Alyssa, generally dealt with the kids during the day while everyone else was at work. It made her super happy, and she always joked how being a grandmother was a much better gig because she'd play with them all day, make sure they were well fed, and then send them home when she got tired at the end of the day.
Sarah was still at St. Mungo's as was Andromeda. They had helped to create programs that allowed for medical training while at Hogwarts, and better training for members of the DMLE, through a mentorship program. Hogwarts now offered at Healing class that was taught by Poppy (Pomfrey) and assisted by a rotating mediwitch from St. Mungo's. They were making it so that more people had basic medical knowledge and abilities, as well as helping to streamline the process of becoming a mediwitch or mediwizard.
Minerva was Headmistress at Hogwarts and was a frequent guest at Weasley-Potter-Spinnet-Witcher functions, having been a mentor and friend to all. Filius (Flitwick) who was talking with some former DA members like Dean (Thomas), Lavender (Brown), and Padma (Patil) was Assistant Headmaster and was also a frequent guest at their homes. Both had done their best to try and revamp Hogwarts curriculum slightly in order to try and find the students who might have the drive and intelligence to pull off a Mastery in a subject during their time at Hogwarts. While it was rare to come out with multiple masteries like Harry and his friends had, it was no longer uncommon for someone to obtain a Mastery in some subject while still at Hogwarts.
Harry looked around and saw Isla (Witcher), who was still a Senior Unspeakable, talking with Jack and Juliana, both still Curse Breakers, now based back in Egypt. He continued to look, seeing many other DA or Order members like Parvati, Hannah (Abbot), and Cedric (Diggory).
He finally found the last of his close group of friends and family in the forms of Ron and Hermione who were talking with Charlie, Neville, Hagrid, and surprisingly, Severus (Snape).
Severus was still Potions Master at Hogwarts, but he had become much more relaxed and a bit kinder after the end of the war, since he no longer had to appear to be a blood purist and spy for Voldemort. He still scared the hell out of most Hogwarts students, favored Slytherins, and had a very no-nonsense attitude, but that was to be expected.
Charlie was still happily working with Dragons in Romania, and Hagrid was still the Care of Magical Creatures Professor at Hogwarts. He'd made large improvements to his teaching abilities over the years, and the class was now a little less dangerous (marginally), and very informative. He never did shake his love of teaching about very dangerous creatures.
Ron was an Auror, though he'd admitted to Harry that he wasn't sure he wanted to do it for much longer. He was thinking about working with Fred and George at Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, and the Twins were more than happy to welcome another one of their brothers into the fold. He and Hermione were engaged and lived together.
Hermione was now working in the DMLE herself, though it was a relatively new assignment. She'd gone back to Hogwarts after the war to make up her last year, before joining the Ministry in the Department and Regulation of Magical Creatures in order to help revamp many of the bigoted laws that had been in place, thus attempting to mend many of the damaged relations between wizards and magical beings. She'd since made the move to the DMLE and was adding her tenacity to the efforts by the rest of them to remove nearly every bigoted pureblood law that had ever been made.
Harry walked around, playing the dutiful host, talking with as many people as he could, which wasn't hard, since they were all people he enjoyed talking to. Finally, he decided he'd wandered enough and looked around until he spotted a specific person. He walked up from behind her and wrapped an arm around his wife's waist, and she leaned into his side. He smiled at Jason and Alicia, who she was talking to.
"So, Brazil better than Taiwan?" Harry asked, interestedly.
"It's certainly close," Jason said. "Extremely cool culture, and they have a unique style of dueling that brings mixed martial arts into the fold."
"Well, you already added swords to your dueling styles," Ginny said. "What's one more thing?" she said with a sly grin.
"True -," Jason began before stopping in shock.
Harry felt his body being pulled as Ginny turned at him and yelled, "NO!" panic in her eyes.
Harry turned to look behind him and saw a mass of dark energy that was pulling him in like a black hole. Ginny grabbed onto his arm and tried to start pulling him away, as he started to struggle, but they not only were not gaining any ground, they were losing it and fast.
Jason and Alicia were trying to cast charms with incredible desperate speed, but it was clear nothing was working. They both gave up and tried to grab Harry's other arm, and now all four of them were being sucked into the dark vortex.
"Let me go," Harry told them desperately. "You'll be sucked in too."
"So be it," Ginny snarled back. "I'm not leaving you."
"Izzy," Jason called, his voice strained. "Track us down!"
Harry could only feel a sense of gratitude before the four of them were swept into the vortex and disappeared from their now panicking friends view as the vortex faded away.
