The bang of a gun echoed through the training hall. Immediately Serephina pressed herself closer to the wall, which gave her protection in that second. She unlocked the gun in her hand and closed her eyes for a second, then took off running.
With a skillful movement, the girl swung herself over the small wall and then ran a few meters through the hall, with its high ceiling and artificial light. Six obstacles loomed before her, two high walls on the sides and four lower coverings, at various distances from her. When another bang reached her ears, she immediately covered herself behind the high wall to her left. She was heard to swallow softly before gripping the gun tighter and then daring to come out of her cover. Within seconds, she had analyzed the scene before her. Maria came out from behind the obstacle farthest from her.
Both women fired their unlocked weapons and shot. Serephina did not perceive that Maria was a few milliseconds faster than she was. The rubber bullet hit her upper right arm, causing her own weapon to lose its grip and her bullet to hit the ground. The girl groaned loudly and her grip on her weapon tightened painfully. Immediately, the stinging, burning pain spread up her arm and she was sure that the blood was already making its way, along her arm.
After only a few seconds, the older agent stood next to her, took the gun from her and put it, along with her own, to the side. "Are you alright?" the black-haired woman asked softly, while grabbing the younger one's right arm and pushing up her sleeve. The addressed still gritted her teeth slightly, but still waved it off, "Just a flesh wound.", they both knew that was a lie.
An unpleasant sight revealed itself to Maria: The bullet had bounced off, but left a deep hole in the girl's pale skin, from the 8 millimeter wide hole , Maria was sure that this could be measured, ran the blood. Sighing, she let go of the sleeve again so that the fabric would cover the wound again. "Enough for today?" she heard the disciple's question, to which she nodded. "Good, I'll be in the lab if anything comes up.", with that the girl pushed herself away from the obstacle and, without another word, left the hall. Maria would have liked to stop her, but she knew that the brown-haired girl would not have stayed.
Serephina dragged herself across the aisles of the Helicarrier, the other agents silent, it was a quiet pack. People didn't talk in the corridors when they were alone, only when they went off in pairs. This led to a heavy silence in the corridors that Serephina disliked even as a child, but on this day she was grateful for their quiet.
Her lab was at the end of a corridor for research, a few crosswalks away. The hallway was empty as she dragged herself up to her door and punched in her code, three times she had to type it in before she could enter the room. In the room, a lone refrigerated shelf hummed along, containing some DNA sequences. Frustrated and tired, Serephina flipped on the light switch, which immediately bathed the room in harsh light.
On the two tables, each against one wall of the room, was still her unfinished project, with some food in between and some equipment displaying a bunch of messages. Ignoring the messages and flashing lights, the girl walked to the end of the room and opened a small drawer. "I should have seen it!" she cursed softly to herself as she pulled out bandages, compresses and a pair of scissors. Dropping down on one of the chairs, she took off her top and then began to dress her wound.
