(AN: So, here's another plot bunny. Inspired partly by the glut of Gate crossovers out there and only a few quality Spec Ops: The Line crossovers. Special shout-out to 15Zero and his awesome Gate fic Here We Go Again, may your updates be frequent and equally awesome. So this story, as with the synopsis, you know the drill, a mysterious Gate appears in Ginza, the Japanese Self-Defense Force kicks ass and takes names, and then goes in. But now, there's a twist. Because now the JSDF will be fighting alongside the denizens of Spec Ops: Line, including the Damned 33rd and Delta Squad. So read, comment, and jeer away. Standard disclaimers apply, Gate and any other IP's belong to their respective owners, SO:TL belongs to Yaeger. Don't Sue.)

(Excerpt from AAR debriefing for Operation Reclamation, audio recorded testimony of Martin Walker, Captain, U.S. Army, 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment–Delta, timestamp: 12/20/2012 0030 hours local time)

"Is Colonel John Konrad the greatest man I ever served with? Well, I dunno. There was this one time, in Kabul when he dragged my bleeding carcass half a mile to an evac chopper. So, maybe I'm biased. But the facts don't lie...the man's a fuckin' hero.

Do you even remember the 'Ginza Incident' in Japan? All those news reports about a Gate appearing in the middle of downtown Tokyo and causing havoc? Those whispered innuendos on reddit about a bunch of crazy medieval types murdering bystanders and takin' hostages?

You were probably all safe and sound at home, watching TV, while Konrad was leading the Damned 33rd out of Afghanistan. They had to take a detour from the Middle East, making a stopover in Tokyo instead of Bahrain, so they were there in the thick of it when shit hit the fan. Instead of just waiting around, Konrad ordered the 33rd into action, and working alongside the JSDF he pushed the invaders back through the Gate.

The colonel saved countless lives, and was fêted as a hero by Japan and her citizens. But the colonel wasn't ready to rest on his laurels when there was still work to do. He volunteered the Damned 33rd to go through the Gate on a mission to rescue all those civilians taken prisoner, bet all you did was send a check.

Rumor has it that the Japanese government wanted the 33rd to go through the Gate, act as a scouting party for the JSDF, but the Pentagon wasn't having it. They ordered Konrad to stand down, and await further orders. He defied that order, and the Damned 33rd stood with him. With the Japanese government's tacit approval, Konrad mobilized his entire battalion and went through the Gate, vowing in his last radio transmission that he wouldn't come back until the 33rd had rescued every last civilian hostage.

That was six months ago. Nothing came out of the Gate. Then, two weeks ago, we picked up a weak transmission coming through the Gate."

"This is Colonel John Konrad, United States Army. Attempted evacuation of hostages from the Gate ended in complete failure...Death toll..Too Many… "

Captain Martin Walker woke up with a start, in complete darkness. He fought down the rising panic and took a deep breath, remembering his training and through willpower forced his racing heartbeat to fall back down to normal. He glanced around, for a moment he was disoriented, as he was sitting in the driver's seat of a military truck but not driving. Then he remembered.

The Delta Force captain was riding in a Komatsu LAV of the Japanese Self-Defense Force, which mean the steering wheel, and by that extension the driver, was on the right-hand side. He glanced over and saw an older-looking Japanese soldier wearing the distinctive camouflage fatigues of the JSDF. Sergeant Major Souichirou Kuwahara momentarily took his eyes off the windshield as he addressed Walker in accented but fluent English.

"Everything alright, sir?"

Walker said nothing as he stared into the darkness ahead, through the windscreen of the armored vehicle, its headlights pierced the gloom but revealed nothing. Further up he saw a set of red lights as the lead LAV was on point, the Walker remembered his mission. After receiving the distress call from Colonel John Konrad and the Damned 33rd, it was decided that the U.S. and Japan would send in a joint team, composed of elements of the Japanese Self-Defense Force's SF Ranger unit, and the United States' own 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment–Delta, aka Delta Force, to perform reconnaissance. Their mission was simple, locate the distress beacon, and find out if the 33rd or any of the hostages were still alive, then report back. Walker's thoughts were interrupted as his radio crackled to life.

"Hey Cap! Captain Walker!"

It was SFC John Lugo, his RTO, medic and linguistic specialist, currently attached to the LAV on point, callsign Kame One. Walker ignored the fact that his RTO was breaking radio protocol and keyed his throat mic.

"What is is, Lugo?"

"Gotta situation, sir!"

Walker smiled to himself. He had an idea what it was.

"Mission critical?"

"No, sir!"

Walker continued to grin as he responded.

"Then take it up the chain, sergeant!"

"Roger that! Lt. Adams!"

This time another voice came through the static.

"I hear ya, sergeant, what's your status?"

The Delta captain could hear humor in Adams' voice. Lt. Alphonso Adams was Walker's second-in-command, his heavy gunner and demolitions expert, and attached to the LAV on rear-guard, callsign Kame 3. The rapport between operators was clear as Lugo responded, not without humor.

"Status is harassed, sir!"

Walker chuckled, and heard Adams snickering through the static as he responded.

"Say again, did not copy your last...you're coming in broke and retarded."

There was more laughter as Lugo replied.

"Repeating, sir! Reporting friendly-fire incident with insurgency attempting to breach the U.S. Zone designated as my pants, sir!"

The Delta captain laughed openly as he responded.

"Lemme guess, Sergeant Shino's not keeping her hands to herself?"

"Affirmative, sir! S'like playing pattycake with an octopus! An' it doesn't help the fact that I'm only catching every other word she's sayin'!"

Walker chuckled.

"Delta Squad's own cunning linguist, fluent in six different languages, and can't understand our JSDF counterparts?"

"Hey, I can speak Japanese, just not as well as Gulf Arabic or Farsi!"

He glanced over to the older JSDF sergeant and then continued.

"Might I remind your sergeant that you were the one who volunteered to take point in Kame One? I believe your exact words were 'Can't wait to get jumped by these hot Japanese babes'."

There was more laughter on the radio comm, even earning a smirk from Kuwahara. Adam's voice came through the static.

"Jackass! Serves you right, leaving me in the rear with the gear an' these fuckin' D&D nerds…"

The smirk finally left Sergeant Major Kuwahara's face as he activated his radio, then spoke tersely in Japanese.

"Sergeant Kuribayashi, cease and desist your harassment of of your American counterpart."

There was a brief pause in the radio, followed by a female voice in Japanese.

"You're no fun, Sergeant Major Kuwahara! Lugo's a hardcore Special Forces!"

"That's Sergeant Lugo to you, and it doesn't matter. You are embarrassing yourself and the JSDF in front of our allies. Cease now or I will move you to Kame 3. I'm sure Itami would love the female company."

There was another pause, and this time Lugo spoke up.

"Not sure what the sergeant major said, but tell him thanks, the busty octopus is now behaving herself, although she's sulkin' something fierce."

Walker glanced over to the older JSDF sergeant, who smiled again.

"My humble apologies, Captain Walker. My…subordinates are usually better disciplined. Sergeant Kuribayashi is very...enthusiastic."

"No worries, sergeant."

Captain Walker turned his attention to the darkness ahead.

"Everybody's on edge and ready to take on whatever's out there. We got this..."

(AN: Famous last words, what could possibly go wrong? This story is something that I've been wanting to write, since for the most part my works have been from the Damned 33rd's perspective, so it's a nice change to write it from Delta Squad. So this is a one-shot for now, I need to get a couple more chapters ahead with my other story An Officer and A Witchling before I even think about updating this one, but I churned out this plot bunny as a means to relieve some writer's cramp. If there's enough interest, I'll continue the story. Spoiler alert, there's more to this gate than just the Gate...so stay tuned!)
