Just a first short chapter to set the scene, hope you like the premise.

Take care!

Her whole body ached horrible, since the demanding rescue mission had consummated every last bit of her energy reserves. Every muscle burned with so much intensity, she had to purposefully try to ignore it and remind herself what was at stake. Her genes had been handpicked to make her the best version she could possibly be, but this has proven to be too exhausting even for her.

As of now she examined all eight patients, two of whom were beyond any help. They had been already dead for quite some time before she got to them. All suffered from effects of extreme exposure, starvation and dehydration, but those two bodies were almost frozen solid. They had no chance. She had to rescue those who could be rescued.

Turning her attention to the main control panel, she made sure all the alarms were operational in case of an emergency. The system would automatically sound if any vital sign reached dangerous level. That freed her hands to finally start practicing some sophisticated medicine.

The most important thing was to stabilize the patients, making sure their bodies would survive the treatment. There was urgent need for rehydration and liquid sustenance, but before any of those, the body temperature needed to be raised carefully, without risking going into shock.

Laura at last stopped for a moment, taking in what had happened in the last few hours. Drawing a few deep breaths, she closed her eyes and swallowed hard. Loud beeping from the machines was the only thing echoing in the room. She was too emotionally involved, which was understandable, but unfortunate. There was still so much to do!

She needed to rummage through the military stuff the team had with them to try to find the substance that enabled the Jaffa to function without his symbiote. She doubted that there would be enough to last the whole recuperating process. She would need to somehow manufacture more, which wasn't going to be difficult with the equipment she had at her disposal, but it might be time-consuming.

Another problem was the overwhelming dilemma whether or not to inject the Jaffa with the material without his consent or advice. While his condition was the best out of the group, it hasn't showed any improvement during the last hours. Still it was a risk to use an unknown substance and questionable to use it without the subject's agreement to it. She chose to postpone the decision until after the chemical analysis of the substance.

Seeing the famous original squad of SG-1 as well as the two other soldiers lying motionless on the hospital beds, connected to countless monitors, IVs and respirators had profound effect on Laura. Of course she knew who the people she cared for were, Balder had often told her of the Tau'ri. It broke her heart to see anyone in such a fragile state, most of all the flagship Earth team.
