It had been two weeks since the Tahoe fiasco and a little less from when Walter declared his love for Paige . A declaration heard by every one except the person it was meant for. Walter had received the back handed threat from Tim and Cabe and Toby advising him Paige would be better off with Tim as emotionally he was not ready .
Paige was certainly showing her feelings for Tim always going off away from the rest of the team to laugh and kiss him ,but as Walter had noticed she always tried to be in his eyeline as if she was punishing him for what had happened in Tahoe .
Walter's thoughts were disturbed when he heard the garage door open followed by Paige laughing and telling Tim how she had enjoyed the meal he had cooked for her the night before ,almost drooling has she told anyone who was listening how out of this world his blueberry crumble had been and clinging to his arm like a limpet.
This was just to much for Walter so he got up from behind his desk and made his way to the stairs to go up to the loft. Once there he went to is white board and began working on it .Toby as usual had been watching Walter when Paige entered the garage and he quickly followed Walter up to the loft. "What's up 197 and what are you doing ?"
"I am working on a chart to APT "replied Walter "APT what the heck Walter " questioned Toby "It's a chart to show were Paige and Tim tend to go for their one to one's .By using the chart i can calculate were i can go to keep them out of my eyeline . See Avoid Paige and Tim "
As Walter was giving Toby a more detailed description of how it would work when they heard footsteps on the stairs and then "Walter are you up here ? " Paige shouted .Both Walter and Toby turned quickly to face the door and to hide the contents of the board ."Toby's up here with me " replied Walter .
Paige appeared at the door "Richard is here he needs to speak with you " "O.K. we will be down in a minute " replied Walter . Paige nodded and turned and made her way back down to the garage. "That could have been a little awkward "said Toby as he and Walter made their way to stairs and down to the garage.
"Good morning Richard what can Scorpion do for you today ?" asked Walter ."Well once you put details of your rocket on the internet my boffins used your design for the thruster for the rocket ,but we seem to be having problems since we had to enlarge the valve to accommodate the size of our rocket "
"Well it is certainly not Walters design i double checked the specs for Walter " said Happy with anger in her voice "OK lets go to you launch site and check it out for ourselves .Paige you take Tim in your car Happy can you take Toby Cabe can you take Sly and i will go with Richard as i have a few things i want to discuss with him " Everyone agreed and left the garage and got into their respective cars and left for the launch site .
On reaching the launch site they all made the way into the control room so Walter could check the readings it seemed apparent that a trip to the rocket was essential . Walter and Happy got into her truck and made their way to the rocket .
After a quick examination they found the problem . Happy was to go back to the control room for another valve that they could adapt .Happy was half way back to the control room ,Walter was annoyed at the way Paige was talking to Tim praising him on his crumble yet again so he removed his comms .
As Happy arrived at the control room she heard a large explosion turning she saw the top of the rocket ablaze .She jumped back in her truck and headed back to the rocket .The noise was heard in the control and all heads turned to the rocket .Paige screamed "Walter" all the others just stood there in stunned silence until the second explosion which completly engulfed the rocket with fire .
"Walter could never survive that "said Tim with no real grief in his voice Paige Grabbed Cabe and sobbed into his shoulder ,Sly fainted in a heap to the floor Toby just stood there in complete stunned silence .Happy pulled her truck to a dead stop and broke down in tears .Knowing that Walter's survival chances were zero .
"Your project as killed Walter". Stated Toby to Richard
As the blaze was so severe no trace of Walter could be found so there could be no burial so the whole team decided to hold a memorial service in the garage led by Ray .Once Ray had finished his sermon, Cabe stood up and spoke. "Walter was like the son i never had, for a few years we were estranged but eventually we met up again when i needed help with the problem at L.A .airport which is were i also met all of you .The past two years have been the best of my life for a long time .I will miss you son ." With that he turned away wiping away a tear from his eye.
Next to stand up was Toby "Walter my friend you saved me so many times when i was gamblering if not for you i would be dead now . I will miss you buddy"
Happy struggled to stand and supported herself by holding the back of one of the chairs. "Walter when you found me i was completly lost with no idea what i was going to do with my life , but you gave me a home and a family and a reason to live . I will miss you ."
Silvester could not stand he was just sitting on his chair wringing his hands and sobbing uncontrollably
Paige with tears in her eyes stood and in a very soft voice "Walter the day we first met i knew you were different but not sure why however when i saw you with Ralph and the way he reacted to you meant so much to me .Many doctors had written him off as mentally deficient it took just a couple of minutes to figure out he was in fact a genius and it is due to you he as progressed so well for that if for nothing else i love you and your parting as left a large gap in my life and my heart as well .I will miss you so much" She walked over to Cabe put her arms around his neck and cried uncontrollably into his shoulder . All the time Tim was looking more and more angry a thing Toby had not failed to notice.
The next hour passed in relative silence. Paige had finally left Cabe's side and gone to sit next to Tim who was still angry although trying to hide it , he gave a smile that did not reach his eyes as Paige sat down next to him . He was beginning to realize that Paige was and probably still is in love with Walter and not him. Toby was again reading him even though he did not realize it.
Since Walters death Ralph had been regressing back to what he was before he had meet Walter . Paige had noticed but what ever she did nothing seemed to help . The only person who seemed able to get him to do anything was Sly but even he was finding it difficult to bring him out of himself.
After about hour Cabe finally spoke and suggested every one go to Kovelsky's and have a meal to honor Walter with the previser that no one order FERMENTED FISH .
