Hey readers, this is the first fanfic I ever wrote. I hope you all enjoy it. Fair warning – it does contain an incest (twincest) pairing though, so read at your own discretion. Any flames I receive about this decision will be promptly ignored and deleted.

Chapter 1: Twins-Who-Lived?

"Ah, Severus, I see you have finally joined us. Have a seat and tell me – what news do you bring me? What is the senile old fool up to?"

The Dark Lord Voldemort was quite pleased with how his plans for the domination of Great Britain were progressing, causing his mood to be quite relaxed and pleasant. His devoted followers were seated with him in the Conference Room at Malfoy Manor.

"My Lord," Severus gulped in hesitation as Lord Voldemort waited expectantly for him to continue. "Dumbledore was interviewing a woman for the position of the Divination Professor at Hogwarts, My Lord. She gave a rather troubling prophecy."

Voldemort inwardly frowned at this. While others dismissed Divination as something imprecise and unimportant, Voldemort knew better. He knew from his extensive studies of magic and the history of the magical world that prophecies tended to come true, in one way or another. Voldemort knew that his trusted spy Severus was capable of distinguishing between a true prophecy and the deranged ramblings of some pretender. "Hmm…this is somewhat concerning. Enlighten me, Severus, what was it that you heard this woman say?"

"I was only able to catch a part of it, my Lord, as my position would be compromised had I remained there to eavesdrop for longer." Severus said. "Here is the part I heard before escaping: The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies."

"That is quite troublesome, Severus. Who was it that gave this prophecy?", Voldemort questioned softly.

"Sybill Patricia Trelawney, my Lord." Severus replied dutifully.

"I see…she must have some sort of relation to Cassandra Trelawney – a rather talented Seer I have learned of during my studies. Back to our discussion, Severus, you informed me that James Potter and his mudblood wife had twin children the previous year, just on the cusp of August. And the Longbottom couple Frank and Alice have also birthed a child around the same time. Am I wrong?" Voldemort said, caressing his wand.

Severus was so shocked by the Dark Lord's insinuations that he couldn't trust himself to speak, instead just thickly nodding in agreement with his Lord. He had to warn Dumbledore immediately. Lily's life was not worth risking. He already had wronged her by ripping their friendship apart at Hogwarts, and he wasn't willing to do so again.

AT HOGWARTS AFTER A FEW HOURS

"Albus! Please, I will do anything! Protect Lily!" Severus begged in tears. He could not have his only real friend, the love of his life, and his only solace in this cruel world be killed because of his lapse in judgement.

Albus Dumbledore – Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, and Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards – was rarely seen with this cold of an expression on his face.

"And what about James, Severus? Not to mention their twin children. What will you have me do? Let them die?" Dumbledore questioned coldly.

"But Albus…Lily is…you are aware of my feelings for her, and…" Severus started to say.

"Am I, Severus? Would I truly believe that you actually care for Lily, if you would leave her family to die? It must be alright for you, right Severus? Let the family die, as long as you get what you want, and sate your lust? You truly disgust me, Severus.", Dumbledore spat. He was so furious with Severus that his powerful aura was palpable.

Severus realized his mistake. "I'm so sorry, Albus. I didn't mean to insinuate such a thing. I failed to consider her own feelings regarding this matter. Please, Albus, protect them all. Keep them safe. Even James." Severus quivered.

"And what will you do, Severus, to repay such generosity from my end. James and Lily are actively fighting for the Light against your Lord. Protecting them will lose my side two of the most powerful members. James and Lily have captured nearly fifty Death Eaters together. It will be impractical for me to utilize resources to protect them." Albus replied, wearily massaging his forehead. It was at such moments that he truly looked his age.

"I will make the required sacrifice, Albus! I will swear allegiance to your cause. As a member of the Dark Lord's Inner Circle, I am privy to his most important plans. I will act as a double-agent, pretending to spy for him by taking up a job as a professor at Hogwarts, but I will be a spy or you instead. Please, Albus!" Severus pleaded urgently.

"Very well then, Severus. I am aware of your skill as a potioneer, and poor Horace has been begging me to let him retire. I will hire you as the Potions Master at Hogwarts, and you shall teach potions to the students there." Albus said. "Agree to these terms, and I shall place the Potter House under the Fidelius Charm."

"Agreed!" Severus said immediately.

"Not so fast. You must also swear on your life and magic that you shall never ally yourself with your Lord again, no matter what happens. No need to swear a fealty oath to me, as I am not looking for a slave. I only require the assurance that you shall keep your word once I do as you ask." Albus said.

"Of course, Albus. I, Severus Tobias Snape, swear on my life and magic that I no longer support the Dark Lord Voldemort's cause, and my allegiance shall never be his in the future, so mote it be." Severus said, wit his wand pointed out in front of him. After a quick Lumos and Nox, Severus confirmed that he had truly changed sides in this war.

A slow smile grew on Albus' face. This would be the ticket to the victory of the Light. This new resource would turn the tide of the war. The very next day, Albus told the Potter family of the prophecy, and performed the Fidelius Charm on their residence, only requesting the Invisibility Cloak of James Potter in exchange. Albus couldn't resist using this opportunity to study the Third Deathly Hallow.

TIMESKIP TO OCTOBER 30TH, 1981

"Come here, Wormtail. Any updates on the whereabouts of the Potters?" Voldemort asked.

"M-My Lord, I was made the S-Secret Keeper. Sirius insisted that he would be a d-decoy and I would hold the actual s-secret." Peter Pettigrew said. He would be rewarded immensely for providing such critical information.

"Very good, Wormtail. Now give me the location." Voldemort prompted.

"Potter Villa, Godric's Hollow," Wormtail said.

"You shall be rewarded more than what you can dream of, Wormtail. I shall pay this place a visit on the morrow, at dusk." Voldemort decided. He turned to Severus, who just stepped forward.

"You have something to say, Severus?", Voldemort asked.

"My Lord I have a request.", Severus bowed, realizing that Albus failed in protecting the Potters.

"A request, Severus? Well, you have served me well for the last four years. I believe you have earned the right to request something from me. Go on." Voldemort prompted.

"Please, my Lord, whatever you do, I implore you to let Lily live." Severus begged.

"The mudblood? Why is it you care so much about her, Severus?", Voldemort asked curiously. Obviously, there were options among those of purer blood, were there not?

"I love her, my Lord." Severus said.

"Ah, love, an emotion I seem to truly be incapable of understanding. However, I recognize its importance. Several monumental historic events were centered around love. I shall fulfill your request, Severus." Voldemort assured.

"You have my deepest gratitude, my Lord." Severus said evenly.

THE NEXT DAY

The Dark Lord made his way over the cobblestones paving the way to the entrance of the Potter Villa. The sky was an angry, purplish red, as the sun had just set. A quick Homenum Revelio confirmed the presence of four people.

Voldemort broke the front door down, causing James to jump from his spot on the couch. Lily rushed out of the kitchen to see what happened. "Lily! Take the kids and get out of here! I'll hold him off!" James yelled, grabbing his wand as Lily gave a resolute nod and ran into the children's room.

Voldemort killed James before he could even fire the first spell. "Tch. What a waste of such pure blood. If only he didn't stand in my way." Voldemort shook his head in disappointment.

Voldemort made his way towards the children's room and entered just as Lily was taking the kids. Lily quickly put them back in their cribs, knowing it was too late. She stood protectively in front of the kids, guarding it against Voldemort's potential attacks.

"Step aside, girl." Voldemort said seriously, pointing out his wand.

"No, please! Not them!" Lily begged.

"Move, girl! There is no reason for me to attack you!" Voldemort said threateningly.

"Please! Leave them alone! Take me instead!", Lily wailed.

"Avada Kedavra!" Voldemort said, causing Lily to crumple on to the ground, dead. A dim light filled the room for a moment, but Voldemort dismissed it as backlash from the Killing Curse.

He saw the crib with the twins, frowning in disappointment at what he had to do. He could feel that these children could one day become a force to be reckoned with, if he did not kill them. "Harry J. Potter, a name for a commoner. He has a filthy, muggle swine name." Voldemort said to himself, looking at the green-eyed boy with jet-black hair.

Voldemort turned to the other child. She had warm, hazel eyes and fiery red hair. "Vera L. Potter. Now that's a name befitting a child of House Potter." Voldemort mused.

He pointed his wand to the boy. "Avada Kedavra!"

Suddenly, several concentric runic circles around the crib lit up, causing the curse to rebound on to the caster. 'Sacrificial ritual!', Voldemort realized angrily just as the green light hit him. A lightning shaped cut opened up on the middle of Harry's forehead. The magical backlash opened a cut from Vera's forehead, through her right eyebrow and eyelids, onto her right cheek, marring her pearlescent skin.

TIME SKIP – SIX YEARS LATER

"Freaks! Wake up! It is Ickle Diddykins' birthday! I expect everything to be perfect!" Petunia screeched at 7:00 a.m.

"Coming, Aunt Petunia." Harry and Vera said, almost robotically. To say that the twins were treated "less than ideally" by their relatives would be the understatement of the century.

The Dursleys would starve them, beat them up, and force them to do all chores in the house. Vernon once even burned Vera's palms on the stove after she broke a plate. However, the curious thing was that all harm inflicted on the twins would vanish the next day. Both knew this was not normal. When their cousin Dudley tried to learn how to ride a bike, he fell and scraped his knee badly. Another time, Petunia cut herself deep while cutting onions. Both injuries took more than a week to heal. Even after that, they left light scars.

However, the Dursleys took full advantage of the twins' healing abilities. They enjoyed making them suffer, even Vera. They had no qualms about hurting a girl. However, they refrained from causing fractures or organ damage. Vernon once punched Harry hard enough to break his rib, causing it to puncture his lung. The Dursleys were terrified of the consequences of such a thing, and promptly took Harry to the hospital, feeding the doctors some cock-and-bull story about Dudley accidentally crashing into Harry with his bike.

Harry luckily survived the injury, taking a week to heal completely, but the Dursleys never took the beatings that far again. The twins slowly learnt not to question the Dursleys and be as polite, obedient, and respectful to them as possible.

On this day, it was Dudley's seventh birthday. The twins watched sadly as an excited Dudley tore into his thirty-five presents, gleefully showing them off to Harry and Vera.

SEVERAL HOURS LATER – DURING THE BREAK AT SCHOOL

Dudley and his "gang of apes", as Harry often referred to them, were engaging in their favorite sport – possibly the only sport they played – Harry Hunting. They would never involve Vera in this, as even they were tactful enough to avoid hurting a girl in public. There was a stigma around such actions.

Harry ducked between two of the school buildings, hoping to find a place to hide, but Piers Polkiss, a thin boy with a face that was reminiscent of a rat, as well as two others from the gang, Malcolm and Gordon, rushed at Harry from opposite sides. Harry had nowhere to go.

'I need to get away! I need to get away! I NEED TO GET AWAY!' Harry thought, subconsciously willing himself to get away. He heard a crack, and as he opened his eyes, he saw that he was on the school roof.

'…What the hell happened?' Harry thought. He had a strange healing ability, the Dursleys call him and his twin freaks, and now this. He remembered how his teacher's hair turned blue once while she was reprimanding him. There was definitely something up. He had to discuss this with Vera once they got home. She possibly experienced stuff like this too, as she was pretty much in the same boat as him.

Harry got the beating of a lifetime that day, for "making Diddykins' friends punch each other", and his uncle dragged his barely conscious body to the cupboard and threw him in. Harry woke up several hours later in the evening, as he saw his sister stroking his hair gently, with tears streaming down her beautiful face.

"Vera." Harry croaked hoarsely. Vera gave him some water that she nicked earlier. Harry gave a grateful nod as he took a few sips. "What happened?" he asked.

"Uncle Vernon beat you into unconsciousness, Harry." She said with a twinge of anger. Harry winces as he rubbed his bruises. "Don't move, Harry. It's okay. I will take care of you." She said lovingly, as she gently hugged him. Harry and Vera were inseparable. Vera was all that Harry had, and it was the same for Vera. Either would die if it meant the other would survive – such was their love for each other.

"Thank you, Vera, but I have something to tell you." Harry said. Vera looked up at him expectantly. "You remember when the Fire Brigade found me on the roof?"

Vera nodded. "I just appeared there, Vera. I was on the ground, and a second later, I opened my eyes on the roof. It was like magic. With everything strange that we can do, I thing there is more to us than what we believe. I know this sounds like some type of story book plot, but I'm being serious here." Harry said.

"I have honestly suspected something like this for a while. You remember that girl who slipped and fell on her head hard enough to get a concussion?", Vera asked, causing Harry to nod. "She was the girl who would constantly bully me in school. On that day, she tore up my school books, ate my lunch, and tried to stuff an older boy's gym sock into my mouth. I wanted to hurt her, Harry. I wanted to know she shouldn't mess with me again. And then it happened." Vera confessed. "There wasn't even anything slippery on the ground, and the ground was concrete, as we all were in the playground. I have been denying that such a thing is possible, but I don't think we can ignore this anymore."

"You just gave me an idea, Vera." Harry said, smirking ferally. "Oh?" Vera interjected, matching his grin. "Let us learn to use this power and stand up to the Dursleys. They obviously don't understand reasonable behavior, so we will threaten them once we can use this power well." Harry said, his eyes shining with anticipation.

"I think that may just be the best idea you have ever had, o brother of mine." Vera said. "So, how do we start?" Vera asked.

"Well, I was able to teleport to the roof only after desperately wanting to get away from the ape gang, so I guess we can only use this power if we want to use it really badly." Harry said, as Vera nodded along.

"So, what should we learn to do first?" Vera asked. "I'm leaning towards fire. If we can learn to use fire, we will be able to do serious damage, and the Dursleys will fear us a lot more." Harry said.

"Harry, you idiot, this is a wooden cupboard!", Vera admonished, causing Harry to scratch his head in shame.

"I didn't say we have to train with fire here. We can do it in the garden. Away from the plants obviously." Harry said, as his ears reddened.

"That's fine and all, but I suggest we try something we can do here. I've heard of science fiction stories where people can move things without touching them. Should we try that?" Vera asked.

"That sounds pretty cool. It will help us avoid physical fights with the Dursleys until we can defend ourselves. I'll try with my sock first." Harry said.

Harry tried to will his sock into moving. 'Come on, sock, move! Mine and Vera's lives depend on learning to use this power! MOVE!" he shouted in his mind, shooting his hands out. The sock budged a little.

"Way to go, Harry! It budged a bit! On your first try!" Vera squealed, jumping onto Harry and hugging him. The Dursleys were conveniently outside the house, so they didn't hear Vera.

Harry blushed at the praise. "Why don't you have a go with your sock?" he suggested. Vera nodded and pulled out her own sock. They both continued to practice for several hours until they were exhausted. "You do know what this means, right Harry? As soon as we get good enough with moving objects with our powers, we can unlock this dreadful cupboard whenever we want!" Vera said, hugging Harry as he nodded and they both fell asleep.

TIMESKIP: A YEAR LATER

Vera and Harry were able to control how they move objects with magic to the dot. They could move objects exactly where they want them however fast they wanted to (up to a limit). They could even levitate each other and move each other around. They were able to unlock the cupboard whenever they felt like it and sneak out to eat proper meals. Petunia, Vernon, and Dudley were none the wiser, as they didn't see any difference in the amount of food left in the fridge. The twins knew the Dursleys were stupid, but not this stupid.

The twins also learned to create small flames in their hands, no bigger than stovetop flames. They were able to set things on fire relatively quickly, as they tested with papers, and woodchips. They still could not get their fire as hot as blue fire, but they were happy with each other's progress.

After the twins learned how to control fire adequately, they decided that they needed a way to cause the Dursleys pain without physically inflicting it. Physical evidence of them hurting the Dursleys would get the twins into trouble. Harry had heard that pain is felt by the pain receptors in the body's nervous system, which uses electrical signals to communicate. If he could overcharge the electricity flowing through the pain receptors, perhaps he could replicate a feeling of intense pain.

The perfect opportunity to test this theory came up when Dudley's Aunt Marge came to visit with her dog, Ripper. The little bastard always tormented Harry and Vera during Marge's visits, even biting them a few times. At night, Harry snuck into Ripper's kennel to try out the idea he came up with. This was a little more complicated piece of magic so it would take a few tries to work. However, Harry was no longer scared of Ripper. If the experiment failed and Ripper tried to attack him, Harry could always use magic to slam the little shit into a wall and knock him out.

After five consecutive nights of testing and tweaking this piece of magic, Harry finally was able to make Ripper howl in immense pain. A dark smirk crossed his face as he snuck back to the cupboard to teach Vera how to use this technique.

While Harry was working on this, Vera was not sitting around doing nothing. She was working on a way to knock the Dursleys out in case they became too violent. She couldn't afford to hurt them, due to the consequences with authorities, but she had to create a failsafe, in case her and Harry's plan went wrong.

She read that people could faint if they had an irregular heartbeat, and when she looked further into this during a visit to the local library after school, she learned about the galvanizer, which can stop and restart the heart using electrical impulses. She too used an animal to try this technique out using magic. She used a stray pig, and after several days of trying, finally managed to knock the pig out and reawaken it with magic. However, the downside of both of these techniques was that Harry and Vera had to touch their victims to make them work.

Harry and Vera taught each other their new magic techniques and finally were in the position to retaliate against the Dursleys. Their chance came on their eighth birthday. The only reason they even knew which day was their birthday was that their date of birth had to be provided to their school during registration.

A drunk Vernon yanked open the cupboard door, leering at Vera. "A pity that such a pretty girl is a freak. I'm gonna use you like a whore, you little bitch. I'm gonna make you scream for your dead parents." Vernon said, reaching for Vera, who was frozen in shock. She knew the Dursleys were horrible, but this was completely unexpected. Thankfully for her, Harry grabbed his uncle's fat forearm and glared at him.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing you little bastard? Bugger off!" Vernon yelled as he moved to punch Harry. Suddenly, Vernon screamed in absolute agony, causing Petunia and Dudley to come running towards the cupboard.

"Listen, vermin, and listen well. If you ever try something like that again, I will burn your eyeballs, stab you with all the knives in our house, and incinerate your corpse. Understand me?" Harry said, his rage making his eyes glow faintly. Vernon nodded furiously, but Harry didn't let go

"What do you think you're doing to my dad, you little freak!" Dudley yelled, charging at Harry. Vera sent him crashing into the wall with a gesture of her hand. Dudley crumpled to the ground unceremoniously, unconscious. Vernon also passed out due to the pain. Petunia looked at the twins fearfully.

"Look here, Petunia. From now on, you treat us properly, understand? Get your fat arse of a son and even more morbidly obese husband to do your chores for you. You will give us at least twenty pounds of pocket money each, and we will buy what we feel like buying and you won't say anything about it. You will give us proper amounts of food and the biggest bedroom in the house. You have two days to move whatever you want out of said room. You will buy us proper clothes and not interfere with anything we choose to do. Marge is also no longer allowed in this house. I don't care how you make that happen, but if I see her here, I will kill her. Finally, you will refer to us by our proper names. No derogatory or snide remarks. And I think I have shown you what will happen if you choose to be violent. Am I understood?" Harry snarled.

"Yes Harry." Petunia said tearfully.

"Good. Now, tell us about our parents – the truth. Not some bullshit about car crashes." Harry said.

"H-How do you know?" Petunia whimpered.

"Your abuse made for quite the learning environment. Now, tell us." Vera interjected.

Petunia told then the real story behind their parents' deaths, as well their general backstory. Both Harry and Vera were quite fascinated with what happened, and even read the letter about what happened at Godric's Hollow that Albus Dumbledore had written for Petunia.

"So, there are schools, shops, houses, and literally whole hidden societies full of these people?" Vera asked incredulously. Petunia nodded.

"So where to students of these schools buy their supplies?" Harry asked, causing Petunia to bite her lip.

"There is a little pub in London. Non-magical people like me can't see it, but you will be able to. I remember its rough location, and I can take you there, b-but you will have to find it yourselves. It is called 'The Leaky Cauldron'." Petunia said nervously.

"That would be greatly appreciated, thank you." Vera said.

"Take us next year. We have some things we want to explore before taking a look at the resources in this place you speak of." Harry said.

Petunia slowly nodded. "Will you two, um, continue to stay in this cupboard until Vernon and I move everything out of our room? I will explain all your terms to him." she said.

"Of course. Now, our twenty pounds each?" Vera asked, with her and Harry extending their hands. Petunia retrieved her purse and gave them the money they asked for.

It was still early in the evening, so Harry and Vera headed out to the toy store and the library, finding the books and boardgames with the more interesting powers, as well as detailed explanations behind them. Harry spent eight pounds on a second-hand "Lord of the Rings" book series, and the remaining twelve pounds on two second hand sets (different editions) of the boardgame "Dungeons and Dragons". Vera spent six pounds on the fictional grimoire known as "The Necronomicon", eight pounds on "The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts", and the remaining six pounds on "Wiccan Spells".

The books and boardgames were extremely interesting. They couldn't finish going through all of them in a week, of course, but they still continued to collect their weekly monies and save them for any expensive purchases.

The Lord of the Rings had several instances of elemental, illusory, telepathic, and runic magic. The twins didn't bother with the runic magic, as it would be unwise, or even downright dangerous to experiment with those without proper guidance. It was, however, difficult to understand for two eight-year-old children because of the old language used.

Dungeons and Dragons had the most diverse array of magics that could be explored. Protective magic, transfiguration, enchantment, conjuration, magic detection and identification, illusory magic, and necromancy were explored in this game. Whoever created such a game must have been a genius, as the more practical aspects of the game helped Harry and Vera better understand the possible applications of these magics.

The Necronomicon was the creepiest book they had ever read. Both twins had nightmares for several days after reading that book. They certainly were not going to try anything from that book – at least not until they were powerful enough to do so. It had dangerous necromantic rituals, explicit instructions on how to summon terrifying gods, and alteration rituals that, more often than not, involved self-mutilation. The author of that book was most likely a non-magical, but goddamn that man was messed up.

The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts contained occult spells that were designed solely to cause harm to others. It contained spells that would make entrails rot, skin and muscles gangrenous, lungs collapse, stomachs explode and expel their acid towards other organs. There were also occult and voodoo rituals that were definitely not for the faint of heart.

The Wiccan Spells Book was the most useful and least dangerous book from Vera's purchases. It contained detailed instructions on how to manipulate external magic, rather than using the reserves inside one's body. Its spells used a minimal amount of the practitioner's own magic to manipulate the surroundings to their own liking. It was useful not only in combat, but also in day-to-day magic.

As the months passed and the twins improved their magical abilities, they bought books on Mathematics, Sciences, and Social Sciences as well, in order to understand how the world worked. Studying science would greatly help with their magic, as it would be easier to use magic to augment natural phenomena than to work against them.

The twins also bought several story books with complex plots, as well as books on psychology, as they helped them understand people and the likely motives for their actions better. They found out that Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of the school they would later attend, was the one who placed them at the doorstep of #4 Privet Drive from their aunt. Apparently, this man was regarded as some kind of God in the magical world.

Now, why would any sane person put two infants at the doorstep of a magic-hating family on a cold winter night after the murder of their parents. This Albus Dumbledore fellow was incredibly lucky that Harry and Vera did not die of hypothermia. Harry and Vera could not trust Albus Dumbledore. At least, not yet. They read several stories wherein seemingly venerable and benevolent characters were actually sanctimonious, manipulative, and megalomaniacal bastards that screw everyone over. The twins both decided to give the headmaster some benefit of doubt, but his decisions so far with Harry's and Vera's lives didn't really do old Dumbles any favors.

During their training, Harry and Vera once stumbled across a grass snake in the garden, which caused them to discover that they could speak to snakes. They tried to see if this worked with other animals, but this ability to speak to snakes seemed to only work on reptiles. While each spoke to snakes, they felt like they were speaking English, but when the other twin focused on what one twin spoke, it seemed to sound like hissing. Strange.

When practicing magic from Dungeons and Dragons, the twins tried to use magic to will a change in appearance. They found that they were able to change their appearance quite easily. This puzzled them. Could all magical people disguise themselves like this? The twins needed to find out more about this from the magical world. They maintained a journal with questions they needed to find the answers to. This was why they waited before going with their aunt to the Leaky Cauldron. They needed to know what to look for. Otherwise, they would be clueless and end up wasting their time.

TIMESKIP – JULY 31ST, 1989

"Get ready and come here quickly, you two!" Petunia yelled. Harry and Vera made their way to the car after locking their room with magic and reinforcing the wooden door to make it more difficult to break. Today was the day. They would finally be going to the Leaky Cauldron.

As Petunia nervously drove – she was still really scared of the twins, what with all their magic experimentation – she explained about Diagon Alley and Gringotts to the two twins. Once the twins spotted the Leaky Cauldron at Charing Cross Road, Petunia parked the car at a nearby parking lot. It was 10:00 a.m. by the time they reached.

"Alright, Harry, Vera. I have some back-to-school shopping to do for Diddykins. I will be back in this exact parking lot at 4:30 p.m. Am I understood?", Petunia asked, getting a nod from both.

Petunia also told the twins about their popularity in the magical world due to the circumstances of their parents' deaths. Neither twin needed any extra attention right now, so they disguised themselves using their shapeshifting abilities. They also created aliases for themselves to use in these kinds of situations.

Harry James Potter became "Arnold Harvey Jameson", a tall, attractive, suave looking man. He had wavy raven hair and cold, black eyes, he had a sharp, strong jaw and stood at an intimidating, but not gigantic height of 6'3". Vera Lily Potter became "Lyra Vivianne Jameson", a buxom woman with flowing locks of auburn hair and icy blue eyes. Her features were sharp and aristocratic, and she stood at an above average height of 5'9". Vera tied her hair in an elegant bun, in order to further accentuate her high cheekbones and slender neck.

They had decided to use the same last names, as it would attract less attention if they pretended to be a married couple. Both blushed furiously back when Vera had suggested this. They went for the appearances they chose, in order to exude a mixture of intimidation and seduction. It would make people understand that they were not meant to be messed with, and shop owners would be more receptive to their needs.

As they approached the Leaky Cauldron, they noticed the strange attire of its occupants, so the twins subtly shifted their appearance once more to change their clothes into black robes.

The "couple" walked into the Leaky Cauldron, posing as Australians who had moved to Britain a few years prior. The innkeeper, a toothless walnut-looking man named "Tom", as Harry observed from his name plate, nodded to them as they walked inside. The twins made a beeline towards Tom. "Hello, Tom, if I can call you that?", Harry started.

"Of course, sir, what may I do for you and this lovely Lady?", Tom asked, as Vera extended a had for Tom to kiss.

"We were told that the place to come to for magical supplies in this country was Diagon Alley, which is accessible through this pub?" Harry prompted.

"Ah, yes, sir. Would you like me to show you how to enter the Alley?", Tom asked, moving to a walled courtyard behind the pub as the twins nodded regally.

"Right, sir you see this dustbin in front of this wall, simply tap the brick that is three up and two across from this dustbin with your wand, and you will be able to enter the Alley." Tom said, demonstrating with his own wand. As the bricks moved to open up a gateway to a cobblestoned street, Tom enthusiastically welcomed them to Diagon Alley.

Although they did not show any surprise at seeing Diagon Alley, the twins were in awe. There were so many amazing shops and stalls. There were robe shops, shops for books, and even a shop that sold broomsticks – which proved the myth that witches rode broomsticks, although in this world, both wizards and witches had the privilege. There were also shops for potion ingredients and wands. This place was simply amazing.

Harry was intrigued by the potion ingredients – as potions was a subject that neither twin could possibly try yet. In the fictional books they had, the ingredients for potions were not even real. Even if they were, they wouldn't risk preparing something as volatile as a potion without instructions from a reliable book.

They quickly identified a large, white marble building, which was Petunia's description of Gringotts. It was time to see if their parents had left them anything.

As they walked to the gates of Gringotts, they saw a short, mean-looking guard with wrinkled skin, as well as a pointy nose and pointy ears – a Goblin, just as Petunia said. His spear had a menacing glint to it, which made it seem capable of piercing through rocks as if they are butter. They saw a message on the gates – a warning – before walking in:

Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed,
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn,
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.

Both twins involuntarily shuddered before making their way inside the bank. They made their way towards the nearest free teller. "Hello, Teller Gornuk, the two of us would like to arrange a private meeting with any employee of this bank at the earliest possible convenience. Our matter is quite urgent. When can such a meeting be arranged?", Vera asked.

Gornuk peered at the twins for a few moments, making them feel as if he was staring into their very souls. "Alright, sir, I shall arrange a meeting between you and myself immediately." Gornuk put a form on the table.

"Sign these, sir and madam, and I shall immediately meet privately with you." Gornuk said.

The forms contained the terms and conditions that witches and wizards were expected to follow during private meetings. Failure to adhere to said rules would authorize the use of lethal force against the perpetrator. The forms were also to be signed using a Blood Quill, and contained a clause that held the Goblin Nation accountable for the mismanagement of the signee's blood.

Harry and Vera read the terms and conditions carefully, memorizing them before signing the form. Gornuk took the forms back and led the twins to a private meeting room.

"So, what is it that you would like to discuss?", Gornuk asked evenly.

"Before we continue, Gornuk, we would like to revert to our original appearances – for the sake of transparency." Vera said. Gornuk nodded, as the twins reverted to their original forms.

"Now, Gornuk, my name is Harry James Potter, and this is my twin sister, Vera Lily Potter. These are our identities to the best of our knowledge. We would like to know if our parents left anything for us. We would also like an audit to be conducted, in order to learn of any properties that we may own." Harry said.

Gornuk seemed pensive. "Sir, madam, I would like each of you to deposit a drop of your blood on our scanner here, so that we can confirm your identities. The properties you own will be listed on the resultant piece of parchment." Gornuk said.

The twins nodded, and Harry let Vera go first. After Vera's scan was complete, Harry looked at her parchment.

"Amazing! You have quite a lot of property, Vera. And I never knew our mother's name was Lillian, rather than Lily." Harry gushed.

"What do you mean I have a lot of property. We will share everything with each other." Vera said, holding his hand.

"Yes, yes, that's enough now. Mr. Potter, it is your turn." Gornuk said. Harry pricked his finger and let the blood drip onto the scanner. Harry and Vera looked at Harry's scan results.

"What? How is it that all our properties and vaults are the same? I thought there is always only one heir or heiress." Harry asked in surprise.

"Not necessarily. Sometimes the family can choose multiple heirs and heiresses and leave it to them to decide which one is better suited to the responsibility later on." Gornuk said.

"And why are we the heir and heiress of the Black family? I've never even heard of it." Harry continued.

"Your godfather, Sirius Black, blood-adopted you both and gave you your positions. He is currently incarcerated, which is why you don't remember meeting him." Gornuk said

"Strange. And what is this "Trust Vault" business about?" Vera asked, while filing away the topic of their godfather for later.

"Your magical guardian, Albus Dumbledore, felt that it would encourage you to spend your monies more frugally if he limited the amount of it that you are allowed to spend." Gornuk said.

"I hope there has not been any foul play by Albus Dumbledore?" Harry said.

"No, no, nothing like that. I assure you, Mr. Potter, that Mr. Dumbledore already has more money than he can ever spend. The Trust Vault was only created in hope that you would learn to be responsible with your money." Gornuk said.

"Then why have you revealed our other vaults already?" Vera asked. There was no accusation in her voice – only curiosity.

"We Gringotts Goblins are honor-bound to not hide any information from our clients regarding their positions. Besides that, the scanner cannot be fooled." Gornuk said.

"And what is this IMPA thing? What exactly does it mean? And what about IMRA?" Harry asked.

"To understand these concepts, think of your body like a gas cylinder. The gas inside is your magic. IMPA is the density of said gas – how pressurized it is. The higher your IMPA, the lesser magic you need to use to perform a certain spell. When your IMPA is really high, a little magic goes a long way. You will be able to execute complex and draining spells with little difficulty. The IMRA is the quantity of the gas that is your magic. The specifics of this measurement are quite self-explanatory." Gornuk said.

"Is there a way to measure these quantities ourselves?" Vera asked.

"Not until you learn enough Ancient Runes and Arithmancy theory. Until then, you must come to Gringotts to get such a measurement. Also, out of general curiosity, how did you both get your IMPA and IMRA values so high? I remember that even Albus Dumbledore only had an IMPA of 281 and IMRA of 520 when he started Hogwarts. That was the highest ever recorded IMPA and IMRA for his age group. How did a pair of nine-year-old children manage to beat that? Don't worry if you refuse to answer. Confidentiality is one of Gringotts' core values.

"It's alright, Gornuk. All I can say is…a lot of practice. Wandlessly." Harry said, causing the goblins' eyebrows to shoot up in surprise. However, Gornuk chose not to pursue this matter

"Alright then, those are all our questions…for now. How can we visit our family vaults?" Harry asked.

"Ah, yes, for that, you must visit the Potter and Black Account Manager. The same Goblin has been the account manager for both vaults since the friendship of your grandfather Charlus Potter and your great-grandfather Arcturus Black. His name is Bronchuk. I can contact him for you." Gornuk said.

Once they sat with Bronchuk and filled him in on everything that took place during the private meeting, Bronchuk spoke up. "Right. Since your heritages have been confirmed, wear these signet rings to gain access to your properties and vaults. However, neither of you will be allowed to claim your Wizengamot seats unless you decide which one of you represents which house. However, it is also a requirement that you reach the age of majority, that is the age of seventeen, before claiming your Wizengamot seats. Hence, you have more than enough time to decide between yourselves."

"I see. Thank you for telling us this. Now, could we please visit our vaults?", Vera asked. As her and Harry wore their signet rings. The Black ring was pure platinum and studded with bloodred garnets, while the Potter ring was white-gold and studded with

"Of course, madam, sir. Please follow me." Bronchuk said with a short bow.

Once they walked to a set of tracks that led deep into the underground, Bronchuk called for a Goblin named Griphook.

"Griphook, I would like you to take these two to the Black and Potter family vaults." Bronchuk instructed. Griphook nodded and led the twins to a cart. They first went to the Black vault, and once Vera pressed her signet ring to a rune on the entrance, the wall melted away to reveal a treasure so large that the twins had a difficult time wrapping their heads around it.

"Griphook, how does this currency work, and what is the exchange rate to muggle pounds?" Harry asked.

"Twenty-nine Knuts to a Sickle and seventeen Sickles to a Galleon. Galleons are the gold ones, Sickles are silver, and Knuts are bronze. The exchange rate is ten pounds to a Galleon." Griphook said.

"What? 493 Knuts to a Galleon? Imagine how difficult it is to calculate change after a purchase. Why don't magicals use round numbers?" Vera asked.

"In Arithmancy, you will learn the magical importance of prime numbers. Since the metals used to make the currency are Goblin-made, there are enchantments on them to prevent corrosion, keep the coins clean, and prevent people from melting them and selling them in the muggle world to accumulate wealth. These enchantments hold best if we define the coins' values as we did." Griphook said.

'Cool,' the twins thought as they nodded at the explanation.

"What do we do if the cost of an item we purchase is so high that we wouldn't be able to carry the required number of galleons? And it would be inconvenient to count so many coins as well." Harry asked.

"We use sale deeds for those. We supply the purveyors of such products with Gringotts sale deeds, on which the purchaser fills out the amount they wish to transfer, their vault number, and the vault number of the seller using a blood quill. Gringotts takes care of the rest. The magic in your blood makes the transaction possible only if the form is filled out willingly. Unfortunately, we have not found a way to circumvent forms filled out under the influence of the Imperious Curse, though. The Imperious Curse is an unforgivable curse that makes the victim do anything that the caster wishes him to do. A truly terrible piece of magic." Griphook said with a shudder.

The twins nodded grimly in agreement, imagining all the horrific things that people were capable of doing by using the Imperious Curse. Rape, suicide, and familicide were among the worst of the possibilities.

"Hmm…thank you for explaining everything to us, Griphook. Now, I need you to estimate the amount of money we will need to carry with us. We need a high-quality trunk that is larger on the inside, hundreds of books, with several possibly being rare or obscure, several potion ingredients, a high-quality cauldron, and possibly more." Vera said.

"I would say you should take one hundred of each type of coin, and use sale deeds if the price of the items you purchase is too high." Griphook said.

The twins nodded and began scooping the required quantities of each coin into a brown pouch that was larger on the inside. They also took the Black Family Grimoire with them. After Griphook had taken them to visit the Potter vault, they took the Potter Family Grimoire as well.

The twins made their way out of Gringotts after changing back into their disguises. They first visited Turunculus Storage Trunks. "Hello sir, madam, my name is Terrence Turunculus. Which of our products are you interested in?" a well-dressed, portly man asked pompously.

"Which of your trunks has the most space on the inside?" Harry asked.

"Ah, yes, that one. Please follow me sir, madam." Turunculus said with a bow, leading them to the back room.

"Here you are sir. A new, top of the line trunk we have created – with seven descending compartments. The first and second are residential – with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a kitchen. Your drainage and toilet waste goes to a storage tank that is enchanted to vanish the waste continuously. Your wash basins, toilet flushes and showers are enchanted to dispense water by means of a variant of the Aguamenti charm, and your kitchen stove is enchanted to produce flames by means of a variant of the Incendio charm.

The next two levels are training rooms, with self-repairing dummies and muggle gym equipment. The two levels after that form the library and storage compartments, which I believe need no explanation. The last level is the potion room. It is warded to protect the rest of the trunk from any accidents that take place. There is also complementary resizable safety equipment for safe study of potions inside the trunk.

The trunk has also been engraved with a runic array to prevent external forces from interfering with what takes place inside it. The runic array inside the trunk makes sure gravity acts in the appropriate direction. The arrays also prevent shrinking charms from altering the trunk's contents, and they make the trunk feather-light and unbreakable as well. Finally, there is a security system, which is a rune that you must add a drop of your blood to inside the trunk. It will give only the keyed individuals access to the trunk. It is placed inside so that people can key themselves to the trunk only with the owners' permission." Turunculus presented with flourish.

"This is one of the most impressive works of art I have ever seen, Turunculus. However, I have to say I am surprised by the inclusion of muggle gym equipment." Vera said.

Turunculus' demeanor slipped a bit at that. "The muggle gym equipment was the main reason why no one has bought this trunk so far madam. I have had twelve pureblood families take a look at this product, and I was extremely close to removing the muggle gym. However, they never realized the importance of physical fitness, madam. If you don't like it, I can show you some of our other products." he said.

"Oh, no, no you misunderstand me, Turunculus. We want to buy this. The muggle gym is unexpected, but not unwelcome. How much does this cost?" Vera asked.

"34,280 Galleons, madam," Turunculus said, looking relieved.

"That is quite a steep price, Turunculus. Mind if we take a look inside the trunk?" Harry asked.

"Of course, sir, but you must understand, the price is so high because I am essentially giving you a portable house. This is actually the price after a fifty percent discount, since you will be the first purchaser of this new product." Turunculus said.

The twins nodded as they were led inside the trunk. They were awestruck by what they saw. It was much better than they expected. The residential area was clean, spacious, and well furnished. The gym was quite interesting to the twins, who realized that they needed to work on physical fitness too on this day. The practice room, where they could practice their magic against dummies, or perhaps even start working on physical combat and martial arts, was another highlight. The library and storage compartments were just as they wanted them: empty and ready to stock up. The potions room was sterile and spacious, and safety equipment was comfortable and of high quality.

Vera quickly filled out the sale deed to transfer the Galleons from the Black vault in order to buy the trunk. Turunculus then allowed them to key themselves to the trunk's security system and had the twins unkey him.

After that successful purchase, the twins went to the book shop – Flourish and Blotts. After exploring for half an hour, they purchased the Hogwarts course material books for all seven years, including the electives of Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. They also bought the books "Curses and Countercurses", "A Beginner's Guide to Enchantments", "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", "Warding: Protect Your Dwellings", "A Guide to Duelling and Magical Combat", "Complex Charm Casting", "Practical and Defensive Transfiguration", "101 Charms for Healing and First Aid", "Potion Theory: How Ingredients Interact and Why Stirring Matters", "Apparition, Portkeys, and Floo: All You Need to Know About Instantaneous Magical Travel", and "The Dark Arts: A Guide to Identification and Protection Against Them", among other related books.

They visited the Magical Menagerie, which sold magical pets. They had no intention of buying a pet, but if they came across something interesting, they would be open to purchasing it.

As they entered and perused the animals on display, a turquoise creature landed on Vera's shoulder. Vera jumped a little, as she picked up the creature to have a good look at it. It looked like a feathered snake with a bird's head.

~Mommy? Please take me with you!~ it hissed.

"Ah, very nice, I see that our baby Occamy likes you. Would you like to buy him, madam?" The woman managing the shop asked.

"How much does he cost?" Vera asked

"680 Galleons, madam. I understand that he is expensive, but he is an Occamy after all, and I have already reduced the price, given that he seems to be your familiar." the woman said. Vera nodded, as Harry continued to look at the animals.

Harry came back to the counter with around thirty snakes slithering around him. Vera's jaw dropped. One or two was fine, but so many? How would he even feed them?

"What are you doing?" Vera asked neutrally.

"What? They were pretty cool. And fun to hang out with. Plus, they can get into all sorts of places. They'd make excellent spies when we go to Hogwarts." Harry said, adding the last part discreetly.

"How will you feed so many snakes?" Vera pressed on.

"A rat can last each snake about a week, so we get thirty rats and we can keep them fed next week. We'll try to figure something out after that." Harry said.

"Well, alright, but set them free or sell them if you cannot figure out a plan by then. Anyways, while you were busy, I found myself a familiar." Vera said, pointing to her Occamy.

"Cool. I wish I had a familiar." Harry said.

~We're here for you, master.~ one of the snakes hissed.

~Don't worry, master, you don't need a familiar. You've got us!~ another hissed, causing Harry to chuckle.

~Well, I guess I'll be happy with you guys then.~ Harry hissed.

~So, shall we go home then? Hmm…first I have to name you. How about Leviathan? Levi for short?~ Vera suggested, looking at the Occamy.

~I like it Mommy! Let's go home then!~ the Occamy hissed excitedly.

"You both are parselmouths?" the woman at the counter asked nervously.

"Yes, we can speak to reptiles. What of it?" Harry asked neutrally, causing the woman to gulp.

"Nothing, sir, nothing at all, my apologies." the woman said.

"Right. So, how much to these snakes cost?" Harry asked.

"8 Galleons and 5 Sickles apiece, sir." the woman said.

"And what is the best way to feed these snakes?"

"We actually have wet snake food, inspired by muggle pet foods and owl treats. One can shall be sufficient for two snakes, keeping them fed for at least three days. That equates to one can per snake per week. The wet snake food cans cost 9 Sickles apiece, and you'll need around 120 cans a month. So, your cost to feed them per month will be 63 Galleons and 9 Sickles, sir. Shall I owl them to you once a month, sir, after you make the required purchase today?"

"That is a good idea. I will send you the payment with your owl before it returns." Harry said.

After the purchases, the twins placed the animals in the trunk. Thankfully, they were all magical animals, so they didn't need to excrete.

After learning of how useful owls were, the twins later bought a white snowy owl from Eeylop's Own Emporium, naming her Hedwig.

By this time, it was almost 2:30 p.m. They only had two hours left until it was time to return. They had found an offshoot of Diagon Alley that seemed like a pretty shady place. According to the sign, this place was Knockturn Alley. There were several pawn shops, black markets, and others of the like. The twins wondered how any of this was even legal. However, they were not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. If there was any chance of obtaining rare or illegal knowledge, it was here.

They entered Knockturn Alley and walked into the largest pawn shop they could find: Borgin and Burke's. They saw several possibly dark and cursed artefacts, like a Vanishing Cabinet, the Hand of Glory, which held a candle that provided light only to the holder of the item, and a cursed necklace that claimed nine lives before reaching the shelves of this shop.

"And who might you be, sir, madam?" an oily voice sneered from behind them. They immediately turned around to see a greasy-haired old man.

"We could ask you the same." Harry said, giving the man an intimidating glare.

"Ah, apologies, sir. You may call me Borgin." the man said, looking slightly cowed.

"Now tell me, Borgin. I have heard that you are very discreet and respectful of your customers' privacy. Tell me if that is true." Vera said icily.

Borgin flinched. "It is, madam."

"Then since we are disguised, we obviously have a solid reason for doing so. Why do you choose not to respect that, Borgin?" Harry asked coldly.

"My sincerest apologies, sir, madam. I was not aware. I shall be more tactful from now on." Borgin said with a bow.

"See that you are. Now, Borgin, we would like to peruse your collection of books. Especially the more obscure, shadier ones." Vera hinted.

Borgin's eyes widened for a moment, before he schooled his expression. He looked out of his shop for a moment, before closing the door, locking it and flipping the sign to say "CLOSED".

"Follow me, sir, madam." Borgin said quietly, directing them to the back of the store. He directed them to a shabby library full of some new looking books, as well as several ancient tomes. The twins ended up buying several books, among which they found "A Beginner's Guide to Dark Arts", "Secrets of the Mind Arts: Occlumency and Legilimency", "Duel Like an Expert: By World Champion Antonin Dolohov", "Ritual Magic: Sacrificial Arts", "Magick Moste Evile", "Moste Potente Potions", and "Elemental Magic: Master the Forces of Nature".

The most interesting book had some weird impossible and meaningless shapes and squiggles on its cover and on all of the pages. However, as Harry focused harder, he saw that this book was literally priceless. It was "Parselmagic – A Compendium of the Serpentine Arts: By Herpon Ho Deinos". However, Harry decided to play dumb.

"Borgin, what's up with this book?" Harry asked, feigning curiosity.

"I don't know, sir. It gives me a huge headache if I even try to make sense of the stuff that are drawn on it." Borgin replied.

"Interesting. I would like to try my hand at decoding such a thing. Where and when did you get this?"

"Some Greek peddler sold it to me about five years ago." Borgin said.

"How much does this cost, Borgin?", Harry asked.

"I don't know, but I am selling it for 120 Galleons.", Borgin said.

"That is quite high a price. Halve it and we have a deal. After all, I cannot be sure if whatever I find in this book is worth the money and the effort." Harry said.

"Your argument is sensible sir. But what if it is valuable? I am willing to reduce the price to 100 Galleons." Borgin said.

"70."

"85, take it or leave it." Borgin said, somewhat irritatedly.

"Deal."

Once the twins finished buying everything, it was already 4:15 p.m. They had to get going. They were now more than 60,000 Galleons poorer, but they did make some excellent purchases.

Once they got home, they both organized the library, even adding the books they bought prior to Diagon Alley from the Muggle World. They put their six editions of the Dungeons and Dragons boardgame in the storage compartment, all the muggle science fiction books in one shelf in the library, all the muggle theorized spell books into another shelf, their Math, Science, and Social Science books in another two shelves, and they organized their Diagon Alley books into another group of shelves.

Things were going to get even better for them from now on.

End of Chapter 1

A/N: Let me know what you think about how I am taking this story guys. I know that in my profile I said I won't make them stupidly overpowered, and I am not. Whatever they are capable of now, they worked hard to obtain such skill and power for two straight years, and they will only get better moving forward. I look forward to your reviews!
