Chapter 1. The King's men

Where the world is spun with ties of magic and power, decisions and birth guarantee the status quo, not having magical qualities classified the elite much more than having money. In that society the least favored were those non-magical referred to as lien, they would always be below the magicians, wolves, multiforms, which were always in turn inferior to the hilmen.

The hilmen, usually are men, they have magical powers that allowed them to control matter, which made them powerful wizards; they could also completely change their physical form in any other being as the multiforms, and they were also very intelligent and strong beings like wolfs. Therefore to be a hilmen was always to have power, to live and to be of the powerful elite of the whole kingdom.

However, the hilmen did not reproduce easily; for a hilmen can born one of the parents have to be a Hilmen, and not all the hilmen managed to have a hereditary like them. Less common was that hilmen be women, the hilmen women used die prematurely because they possessed in their being even more power than the men, the few hilmen women were very powerful and sough-after, they had the power to give life not only to another hilmen, they could effectively give life and cure, than to any other being.

Thanks of Hilmen existence the British kingdom was structured, in that moment is under the influence of the so-called King's men, counsellors and regents of de 14 Magical House. They are the powerful and influential 8 northern men, landowners from Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, York, Birmingham, and the 6 men from the South landowners from London, Cambridge, Oxford, and Hereford.

However, it was the men of the north who were the most powerful all of them were Hilmen, while the men of the south 2 were Hilmen, 1 Mage, 2 wolves and a multiform the last 4 were heirs of ancient Hilmen and therefore the reason for their rank, they could only be influential being from another clan when they were heirs of Hilmen, because they could in some generation reappear.

Being a man of the King meant responsibilities to the chamber and the counties, they could hold office or not, but they were always the King's chief advisers...

That morning brought not so much pleasant news for Thomas Bennet, who looked the envelope with royal livery with displeasure and suspicion sitting at his desk, he knew what that envelope meant, something that could happen but he wishes very much that it would never come. Thomas had been trained for it in Cambridge, because in his blood there was hilmen inheritance, by his great-great-grandfather Patrick Bennet, however he did not think that he would come to him.

Thomas Bennet never consider that he became a man of the king, since his grandparents and father were wolves, while his other relatives of the Bennet branch who were Hilmen were women. In that moment, his multiwizard uncle Oliver Collins was a King's man, but his cousins were lian, therefore they would not inherit the post as a man of the King.

He always hopes that his uncle would survive him, or that maybe one of his daughters would have a son that he would inherit or even his own nephew would father at least a multiwizard or a wolf. He doesn't expect it to come to him.

Purity and being a man represented the possibility of inheriting as well as power, Thomas was not an alpha wolf, he was a changing multiwizard, in fact he is the largest of 2 clans the multiform and the multiwizard, therefore he was superior to his cousin. Thomas is son of the multiwizard Eleonora Thames and alpha wolf Joseph Bennet, he was superior to his cousin and therefore to his son who was only just a magician or (who wielded a single power) and he was also superior to all his daughters according to the records.

Thomas was always aware of his magical nature but he was not attracted to him preferring to live without so many ties and behave like a Lian, the first years of his life he lived teaching at Cambridge, teaching and philosophizing he liked, but being part of the councils, working and controlling the land and people was not to his liking.

He fell in love and case with Francis a very beautiful Lian his origins were far from the magic line only had his great-great-grandmother who was a magical creature.

They had 5 daughters all except for Lydia possessed at least 2 magical qualities, Jane was according to her mother a magical creature; however her father knew that Jane was in really a magical Fairy... Francis was trained as a common lady with limited magical knowledge, in difference with Thomas did know perfectly the quality of each daughter, all of Bennet girls were registered different from who they really are, and they are grow up considering themselves like magical creatures with some quality different from the common Lian.

The other news that tormented Sr. Bennet, was precisely the arrival of young people from the north to the county, Francis fluttered all morning and demanded that her husband go to meet the knights, their village was simple, there were not many people with magical gifts, the Lucas and the Pilmet were the only families that possessed some magical quality and none was pure. Therefore it was his daughters not only the so-called Bennet beauties, but the jewels of the county all possessed magical qualities some of them to high degrees.

The men of the north were known as magical beings who sought other beings to increase their power, in their search many of them were capable of anything, although on the outside every man from the north was a gentleman really not all of them were precisely. That what least pleased Thomas, his daughters all of marriageable age would be in the center of interest, if as everyone presumed this gentleman from the north not only came by the house and the boundaries of the village, but by a wife.
