Shit

He ran as fast as he could. How could a college be so big? This place was a maze.

Late on the first day? His mom would kill him. He looked at the campus map in his hand, looking around and trying to figure out where he was. How was this place so huge yet so empty? Where were other students? Or staff?

A "you are here" dot sure would help right now. He traced over the page with his finger, tracking where it looked like he walked through.

He stopped at a point, pausing to look around and realize he managed to figure out which of the twenty million halls he was in.

His class was just up some stairs and past a few other rooms. He looked up from the map, and his eyes met the newly added escalator.

Fairy Tail was for the rich, that's for sure. He ran to the escalator, and even walked up the moving stairs to save time.

He placed one foot in front of the other, until something stopped him. His feet froze and his hand gripped the handrail a little harder.

She was beautiful.

On the escalator going down was without a doubt the prettiest girl he had ever seen.

Her shiny blond hair laid perfectly over her shoulders. She wore a turtleneck with a skirt, unintentionally matching the schools colors. Her jewelry laid perfectly against her wrists, and complimented her skin tone.

She slightly bobbed her head, listening to music through earphones. She had a plain black backpack on, but still held a book in her hand as she crossed one foot over the other. She read the back of the cover of her book on her decline, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear and absorbed in her own world.

He didn't realize he had turned his head to watch her until his feet met the floor, tripping over the slight bump.

He got up and dusted himself off, looking back down once more to see the girl still reading the cover as she walked out of his line of sight.

He checked the time; it was 9:29 A.M.

One minute until his class started. He once more ran down the hall, reading off classrooms in his head.

"327b… 635b… 492b…"

"713b!"

He rounded the corner into the classroom, locking eyes with his best friend: Gray Fullbuster.

Gray rolled his eyes at the sight of him, panting and the slightest bit of sweat showing from his run to find the room.

He took his seat next to Gray, who mumbled "idiot."

Class started and class ended, and of all the classes he was taking this semester he already knew he was going to hate calculus the most.

His slight ADHD didn't help him focus on the lecture either, but the whole time he found his mind wandering back to the girl he'd seen on the escalator.

And he didn't know why.

Well, he knew he was stunned from her beauty, but all he could imagine was how everything about her had seemed perfect.

After class was over, he told his best friend about her and how he couldn't stop thinking about her.

"Sounds like you like her," Gray said.

"Like her? I don't even know her."

"Then you would've stopped thinking about her, flame brain."

That was another thing. Gray had been his best friend since childhood, but like any true friends they had their fair share of fights.

When they were younger they would bicker so much that their parents would say they were like fire and ice.

They started insulting each other as such, and though they've lessened on their fights, the terms have stuck with them.

"Maybe I just want to get to know her, ice princess," he said, sticking out his tongue for effect.

"Yeah, cause you like her, dimwit," Gray said, slinging his backpack over his shoulder.

They began walking out together, heading to Gray's next class.

"I don't like her! I just—"

"You think she's hot and want to know more about her, I get it," Gray stated.

He gave him an annoyed look.

"First off, ew, girls shouldn't be called hot. Secondly, I am not the romantic type."

"Uh huh, sure. She's got you wrapped around her finger and she doesn't even know it yet."

"Stop acting like I'm some dog on her leash. Maybe I'll say hello to her."

"Right, cause with your charm that'll have her running a mile the other way," Gray scoffed.

"Okay, icicle—"

"And here's my next class," Gray said, analyzing his paper and making sure the numbers on the room plaque matched.

"Seriously man, if you see her again, just ask her name or something. I don't know, small talk," Gray said before walking into the room and taking his seat.

He rolled his eyes at his best friend. He was too cocky for his own good.

If he saw that girl again, he was gonna make some kind of move. Not romantic, because he didn't like her like that.

Yet.

Maybe.

He didn't know.

Either way, Natsu Dragneel wasn't about to give up.

He looked down at his watch.

He had thirty minutes until his next class. He went to get a snack, and decided he'd get to the next class early. With his luck though, Natsu would probably get there late anyways.

He picked up his pace, just in case.
