Hi, so this is my first story of this fandom. I am so happy to write Charmed a TV show I fell in love with when I was thirteen when there were four women who were badass, strong and dominated a world that was trying to destroy them. Upon re-watching the show during lockdown I redeveloped my love for it and put in plans this story.
Firstly let me say-l love Paige-Rose did such a good job coming into an established show and creating a character and making it her own but there is something to be said for Prue and Shannon and especially for Prue and Andy who had so much potential (with the exception of Jack there was never anyone after that for her) and I think the idea that she died and was reunited with him was just the writer's way of giving them a Happy Ending after they died because Shannon and Ted had so much potential and chemistry together.
So this story is that Happy Ending but if they lived. This is seasons 2-3 specific and though some episodes will be the focus some might not be included in 100 percent detail. Also dialogue will not be the same as the show so please keep that in mind. Some events of episodes will be changed as this story is AU and will have the Happy Ever After that both Prue and Andy deserved.
For those of you who have read my work before you will know that spelling and grammar are not something I am great at so if I make mistakes I am apologising in advance.
As I've said I love Paige and I love Rose but this story doesn't include her.
Disclaimer-Nothing is mine just this little plot.
Please Read and Review and let me know what you think of this first chapter.
Before And After
Charmed AU-An AU of Seasons 2 and 3. Fate throws Andy and Prue a bone and they get their happy ending. Andy Lives/Prue Lives. No Paige. Episode Sporadic.
Chapter 1-Men Plan, God Laughs,
In which Prue and Andy are thrown a bone and nobody quite knows how.
He had accepted going into the house that he was going to die. Or at the very least going to gain some catastrophic injury that would ensure he never made it back to his apartment. The best case scenario was far behind but then again when he had put on the uniform and clipped the badge to his waist Andrew Trudeau had known what he was getting himself into.
But he couldn't let them die.
He had known Prue, Piper and Phoebe since they were children and they had been friends for a long time before his feelings had gone to the surface both when he had been a teenager and lately. And like he had known all those months ago when he had seen her at the hospital looking for her sister he knew they had never gone away.
Even now as he kicked down the door he knew that it didn't matter what Prue was. Because witch or not he knew that it didn't matter to him anymore. She was still Prue Halliwell. She was still the same girl he had loved for most of his life and would probably die loving.
He got one glimpse of her on the floor crumpled like a little rag doll and Piper and Phoebe screaming at him and then Rodriguez turned around his eyes red and wide like that of a snake and then something without warning hit him so hard in the chest he felt like he had been winded by a hundred thousand baseballs to the torso and he was thrown backwards so hard he was sure he was destroying a good portion of the house as well as Penelope's prized figurines something in which he was sure he was going to pay for if he was lucky enough to get upstairs to the…well…whatever it was.
But that didn't happen.
For a split second he lay there so convinced he was dying. His entire body was aching as if he was in shock and there was blood dripping from parts of his body and he was pretty sure his knee and his arm were torn in places it shouldn't be.
But he wasn't dead.
Clearly that was not what Rodriguez wanted because his expression told Andy as much as he staggered to his knees and then promptly fell back down again. He needed to get to Prue.
Suddenly a long leg was kicking the damn co—no—demon out of the way and he saw Phoebe Halliwell swing her leg round in a move that if he did it would pull his back in two and suddenly Prue was there her dark hair swinging around her shoulders and her eyes alight with something that was so…powerful (for lack of a better word) and then it was all a shock of light and burning sparks that scattered across the floor and the walls and the windows and then suddenly Rodriguez or whatever the hell he was, was gone.
There was second where Prue was still standing and then she saw him. Her mouth dropped open even as some wind blew across the house almost as if sending out a warning to the three sisters who lived inside it but Andy didn't see that or care about that.
He blacked out with Prue's eyes in his mind and her running footsteps in his ears.
It didn't matter that she was too late.
She was alive.
And Andy could live with the rest.
There was something beeping, a horrendous kind of beeping that seems to seep into your brain and force you to listen to it even as all you want to do is succumb to the bliss that is sleep.
And it was bliss. It was a comfortably kind of warmth and though it wasn't his own sheets (his were soften than this) it was better than he had been feeling in months when his brain had been plagued with putting the pieces together of a puzzle he could not comprehend and then the constant spinning that it had endured when finally he had. He wasn't even plagued with the nightmares that came with seeing his career go down the toilet.
So all in all for Andy this was quite nice.
Except for the beeping.
The beeping was the thing of the devil.
Who actually probably did exist because at this point nothing would surprise him.
It was that that woke him, not the thought of the devil but of things existing that shouldn't have. And he was sure, so sure he was dead and quite frankly Andy thought that for all the shit he had put up with over the years he should be in the upstairs bit not downstairs and he wanted to see it.
What he got was a hospital room.
And when asked Andy would acknowledge that, that was when his exhausted brain kicked in and he realised that actually he might not be dead.
It was definitely a hospital room. That much was clear and he was hooked up to many a machine. He managed to lift his hand off the bed but it fell down again as if it was not attached to his body and when he tried to push himself up the pain that shot through his entire body made him gasp aloud.
"Easy there" came a voice that he recognised. "Easy there partner"
Morris. Morris was here, he would know what had happened and he would know what to do and Andy relaxed falling back into the instinctual habit of trusting your partner that was so ingrained in you when you took the job. It was so much easier than contemplating the supernatural and when he laid eyes on Morris the man gave him a tired smile but didn't treat him like he was laid up in hospital of which Andy was immensely relieved about.
"How you doing?"
"Crap"
Morris laughed and then reached beside him for the cup of water and the straw which he attacked greedily. Settling back down he raised his eyebrows at his partner and Morris did not disappoint.
"So Rodriquez attacked you" Morris said quietly. "At the manner. He apparently went after the sisters to get to you but Prue gave you the tip off you and you went after him. He attacked you, attacked them and in the process disappeared"
Morris shot him a look and even in his drugged out state Andy knew it to mean that his partner who was effortlessly smarter than he appeared knew that this story was mostly bull and that he only wanted to know the bare bones of what he could sell to their superiors. Also Andy was willing to bet that Morris was pissed as hell that Andy had gone in there alone though if he'd taken his unaware partner into the chaos that had been the manner there was a very good chance both of their pictures would be going on the wall of the departed brothers and sisters.
Morris seemed to understand that though and when he spoke his voice was softer than Andy had ever heard it and that included the whisper that he had his back when he had gone into the ambush that had been the Internal Affairs meeting.
"You've cracked three ribs, torn your right rotator cuff, fallen badly on your knee and all but snapped your left ankle in two not to mention the head injuries. It will be a long time coming back partner but if you can make it through the PT then I want you back with me. I'm your partner Andy. I'm not going into the field with anyone else watching my back"
He must have caught Andy's surprised expression (he had believed his career to be well and truly dead) and he laughed.
"The sisters they spoke to command, you've been out three days so you missed most of it. Well Phoebe did…loudly. Pretty sure she scared Captain Michaels balls back up his backside as well. Told him emphatically that you saved all their lives. Considering the fact that a cop just tried to murder another cop well…providing you make a full recovery…this all goes away and your back with your gold shield"
Andy swallowed. Hard.
That…that left a lot to think about. He was not however going to think about it right now. Right now he hurt too much to think about weather or not he was ever going to bust through doors again.
Or if he wanted to.
"Where are they?"
Morris didn't waste time.
"Piper's and Phoebe took Prue back to the manner. She's been exhausted waiting here for three days for you to wake up. Hasn't left."
He shot Andy a loaded look and then looked down twisting his own wedding ring around his finger.
"Seems like she really cares about you" he said with such a false innocence it wouldn't have fooled a rookie three hours out of the academy. Andy would have rolled his eyes but everything hurt too much to even do that.
Damn it.
But there was one more thing he had to rule out. Because a man hunt and an injured cop in a civilian's house could only mean a search had been done, forensics and DNA and God only knows what else. Hell for all he knew Rodriguez had ghost fingerprints like the last one.
"Do you…do you…"
"I'm gonna stop you right there" Morris said with a finality that was shockingly clear. "And I am going to tell you the same thing that I told Prue when she looked at me with the same expression—with tears I might add—I don't wanna know. I don't need to know. I know you know and that's enough for me. The bare minimum so that I can do my job with a relatively clean conscious and no more nightmares than I already have ok? If I need to know, you can tell me and they can tell me but I am really praying that I never need to know"
And Andy knew what he was getting at and what Morris was saying underneath all the coding of his words.
"Thanks Daryl" he mumbled.
And with that thankfully, blissfully, the door opened, and a nurse came in. She did something for a second and then the morphine kicked in again and he was out like a light.
When he woke up he was aware that someone was in the room shuffling through papers and he turned to see Piper Halliwell her hair tied back in a neat plat muttering under her breath as she shifted through paperwork with the expression of someone who had no idea what she was looking at but knew it was going to cost her something.
Speaking as a cop who used to look over case files with the same expression Andy knew the feeling.
He coughed and Piper jumped looking up at him and then her expression creased into that same kind smile she'd had when they were teenagers and his Mom had just passed and she'd come round with homemade cookies and not cared that he cried his way through eating them.
"Hey Andy"
"Piper" he said coughing a little and taking the water she offered. It was getting easier now he realised to sit up and talk and move around though his body still felt besieged by what had happened.
"Easy" she said fluffing up his pillows and her expression was such a mom-like kind of thing that he felt like he was going to cry. He got himself under control the second the thought about it and if Piper saw anything like she had done all those years ago she pretended not to notice it.
"Easy there Andy, you've had a rather nasty few days"
Andy swallowed.
"How long was I asleep this time?"
"Only two more days, the nurses are pretty convinced that you can be lowered off the morphine now the worst of your injuries are healing."
Andy heard it but didn't register it. It took him a moment to realise that he was waiting for her to come through the door. Even now with so much in the air, he was waiting for her.
"Where's? —"
"Phoebe? Oh she's supervising the replacement of gran's glass cabinet. We managed to find a spe—well—we managed to repair all the figurines but the cabinet needed to be replaced completely. Do you want me to go and call your Dad? He's on his way down but I think what with the airports—"
Andy smiled. Even as battered and as bruised as he was Piper was still Piper. She had a lousy poker face and tended to rabble when she was nervous which still made it absolutely shocking that she was able to hide such a secret from him the seasoned detective for so long.
"I don't mind you saying the word spell Piper"
And he didn't. He had come to the conclusion as bad as an example as it was that the world of witchcraft and warlocks was like the mafia. Once you were in you were unable to get out. Once he had come to that conclusion he was actually all right with it. It had always been the decision making that had kept him up at night. The agony of choice. Once he had decided upon which path he was going to go down he generally stuck to the same choice. And he had chosen his path when he had gone through the door of the house fully expecting it to be the last thing that he did.
Piper said nothing but simply stared at him for a second and then nodded.
"Alright" she said finally. "But your partner absolutely doesn't want to know Andy and the last thing we want is to cause you more trouble"
"Don't worry about Morris…he's a lot smarter than people realise" he said pushing himself upwards again and finding to his absolute delight that he could actually push himself upwards on his own without it being absolutely agony.
"He'll know what he needs to know when he needs to know it and not before. Trust me your safe"
It was clear that Piper did not fully understand that sentence but she took him at face value nonetheless.
"Well I'm glad your on the mend anyway. And that your job is safe"
"Where's Prue?"
Yeah. It was time to bite that bullet.
Piper paused looking down at her sheet of papers and Andy saw through the handwritten calculations that she was looking to buy some kind of property. Piper stared down at her paperwork for a second and then looked up at him.
"She's at work. Andy. She's…she had a meeting and she had to go in. She's…she's got a big auction to work on and she's…"
"When is she coming in to see me?"
Piper's expression told him without words that at best she didn't know and in the worst case scenario she did know but didn't want to say. Either way it was clear what she was trying to say. Prue didn't want to see him. She wasn't going to come to see him and trapped in this bed Andy couldn't go and see her either.
Piper opened her mouth and then shut it and as the nurse came in she took her leave. Andy stared resolutely at the ceiling and refused to let the emotions that were battling around inside of him show because it didn't matter how much pain he was in or how much everything was hurting it was the simple matter of the fact that Prue was not going to see him, was not coming to see him after he had almost died that made him feel if possible, even worse.
So there you go, I hope you enjoyed this first chapter and hopefully I will bring you the next one soon. I like to do a double update around the holiday's so this one should be followed by the next.
The bit about Andy's Mom dying is my own creation but considering all we really know about him is that he has a Dad who was also a cop and an ex-wife I don't think it was to creative a stretch that he might have lost other family as well.
Next Chapter-Prue's version of events as a demon steals the Book of Shadows and guilt and grief tries to batter the relationship between her and Andy.
