Author's note: Hello Loves and thank you for checking out my story! I do appreciate the interest, and I hoping to improve on my writing technique so that I can possibly publish my own book one day, but we all must start at some point. So why not warm up with some good old fan fiction to get the creative gears turning! I've always had a activate imagination (though I think the ghost I might've seen though out my life weren't that of my imagination, Like my mother would claim.) and it takes me far into places, even with what little I had growing up with, was huge in the depths of the vast world I created in my head. It seems that I haven't grown out of it, and like me still as an adult that wears goth clothes, it has not ever been a phase. I just never really gotten to posted any of my work, and sadly a lot of it was lost. So to redeem myself from the lack of devotion I had for my creative self, I decided that now was the time to at least put effort into something that can grow a dream and turn it into reality. I have no intention of making any kind of profit off of this, but rather intend as a product of extreme creative outlet that I've adapted though out my own sessions in shadow work. What's that you say? Well if you don't know, it's embracing the parts of you that you don't like, as a sum up. Now enough of that, the next question I was asked by a friend was "Why the Slayers? They haven't had anything new in like 12 years?" The anime may have come to a hiatus, but the books are still being published till this day, and I think from I last gathered that the author was already working on the third story arc. Also the release and republished the Slayers light novels. They have been in both mobile and RPG based games (I think it call The Tale of Rays or close enough). The internet is an amazing thing, isn't it? But why the Slayers, out of all the recent and newer animes that are out and trending now, I choose something that isn't as trendy or popular (Though I would be surprised if its fan based is still thriving.), but that wasn't my appeal. Yeah the new anime is cool and all, but the Slayers were like my first anime I watched (Which I was like 14 when I aired on HBO or some other cable provider I can't remember). So that hits home, and I feel like that I should make some kind of tribute to something I've always enjoyed. Personally I don't care if it's trendy or it's the newest, I'm writing this because I want to, and life is about doing what makes you feel like you are at your best. So thanks to the Neptune and Uranus retrograde, and the a special one to the deities I believe in, this story came to me, and here is the aftermath of what one idea can turn into. I hope you all enjoy, because regardless if it gets attention or not, I'm still finna post this.
DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN THE SLAYERS or any of the characters, or places mentioned in this story. That's properly owned by the writer, Hajime Kanzaka. I'm just using them with my own characters and places (based off the other worlds that weren't really detailed about) to tell this three saga tell of what think is epicenes. It's just inspiration, and stated before, and it's being stressed now to clarify that I have no intention of making any sort of profit off of this story. You got to specify in this world, or else they will attack your crack!
Enough with my rambling on about senseless stuff and get on with the feature presentation:
The Slayers: Legacy
Chapter One: Just an Ordinary day, not for long if you're Lina Inverse…
It all started out as an ordinary day. You know nothing out of the unusual. It was a bright and sunny beautiful day. The sky was clear and blue, with not a single cloud in it. The birds sang happily in tune and children cheered wildly as they raced throughout the fields; chasing each other around, in their own little games like Tag and Hide and Seek. I felt like I was walking back in time as Gourry and I made a steady paced into the Kingdom of Zephilia, and we were heading our way to visit my parents, who owned a store in Zepheel. It been at least years since I've last seen them, and it was Gourry's big ideal of visiting in the first place. All he kept saying was he wanted to meet them and ask about something. That doesn't help as I wonder what he wants to ask my family and even more about what? Does he want my family's blessing for marriage? Is he that much in love with me that he wants to see how my family felt about the ideal? And if so, how come we never expressed it? My stomach did a flipped when I thought of the idea of intimacy beyond the ideal of cuddling or hugs. Besides, I still have plenty to tell both my mother and father, who where both a traveling swords man and sorceress. Granted, I'm much older than when I was when I started to travel somewhat on my own (Mind you that I'm currently at least eighteen. Wow, it's been nearly five years or more since I set foot out of Zepheel. When I left I was like fourteen or so.) I'm pretty sure that I am much more mature; in a since then when I was when I first met Gourry. I looked at him, same clueless yet carefree expression on his face that barely aged; his blonde hair shining in the sunlight, and his bright blue eyes scanning the scenery, as we venture forth to a village on the outskirts of the kingdom. The road twisted into that of a cobble stone path, which leads to the town. The town was just as rural and full of grape vines, untouched by time and just like I've remembered it. The buildings began to gather as we ascended closer to the heart of the town. The market place bustled with life; People of all ages gathered to sell variety of goods, and many more to trade off for better quality. There were groups of families who weaved in and out shops as each member searches for whatever they wanted. I know what I wanted as I felt a fierce growl from my abdomen; Heh. It seems like hunger has finally found me. We both did a bit of traveling before we reach the border. My delicate nose caught the scent of freshly baked beards and cooked meats. My mouth watered as I changed my course closer to the source of the delicious source of nourishments. I wondered till I saw the cart with food on it. A small girl with brunette hair was adding fresh cooked goods on it.
"Come on, Gourry!" My voiced chirped as I grabbed his hand and tug him forward with me. His head turn, and he trotted along as I made our way to the cart. He tilted his head as I approach the cart, sniffing at the breads. "I'm starving."
"But didn't you eat earlier Lina?" He inquired, as his index finger tapping at his chin as he watched me. Gourry's eyes peered at me, His arms crossed and he tapped his foot.
"Yeah," I gathered the girl's attention, and pointed to the assortment of breads I wanted. "But that Fish didn't keep up as long."
"Anything else?" I could barely hear the girl. Her voice was soft as a gentle breeze. I nodded my head and she followed me to the other side of the cart. The combinations of rosemary and garlic lingered where the meat rested.
"Sure." I eyeballed every delectable piece that caught my attention. "I'll have five of these, and three of those pork roast."
"Lina!" I heard Gourry called. "That's a lot of food. Are you planning on sharing? I'm hungry too."
Me? Sharing? Oh Gourry! You're lucky to even have me. I glanced at Gourry and stuck my tongue out at him.
"Typical Lina." I could hear him mutter as I watch the timid girl load up the meats I've picked and placed them in a paper bag with the breads. I tend to the girl with a couple of coins as Gourry tuned towards a large, shady oak tree. We seated ourselves underneath it, and I carefully place the food, opening it to both be feasted on. It was great, and the view was amazing. For once I was glad to actually enjoy life without a single worry about what could happen next…
Well I think I've might've jinxed myself with that one. It happened so fast and out of nowhere. We were just sitting under the shady, enjoying a picnic, Minding my own business as I watched a group of young girls skip rope (Which I did when I was probably their age) and out of nowhere there was this blinding flash of light. It lasted for a minute, but then it was shortly followed but a thunderous boom that was strong enough to shake the ground below us. Many people tumbled downwards, including some of the older buildings.
"Lina, Are you alright?" Gourry grasp my shoulders, checking for any injuries. A branch near us fell out during the strange earthquake.
"Yeah. I'm fine" I said as I watched the dust clear and some a few of the town's folk climb back to their feet. Some assist the elderly that have fallen, and the children ran back to their home shrieking for their mothers. I would have done the same as well, for the most part that is. I still couldn't tell them what my sister did to me after she caught me trying to use her to make money. I brush myself up as I rose to my feet. There was a moment of silence before the rest of the town started to panic somewhat
"What do you think happened?" Questioned Gourry as he moved out from where we were sitting to take a better look. I shrugged at him. For all I know, it could have been some sort of freak earthquake, at least from what it felt like. The flash of light was odd, that I've never recall seeing unless someone was casting a high level spells, like a Dragon Slave, and if they were, it had to be at a decent distance to have the aftershock, if that was aftershock at all. Gourry rushed out from under the tree and went out to see what a newly formed large group where pointing at. I followed him, it was hard to see passed the crowd but I could hear Gourry react with a loud gasp.
"Lina, Come here." He grabs me and boosted me high enough to see, that somewhere out in the west, was a huge, radiant pillar of beaming light. It pulsated with raw, fresh energy. Whatever it was had just made that. Pretty impressive to me, the sorceress genius I am, but to the rest who aren't like me, of course seen it as a 'bad omen'. I mean, not to spook myself out, it could be both, or neither. I want to say that I'm pretty sure that Zephilia wasn't the only kingdom to notice that, and I wonder if it had a different impact to the kingdoms that reside closer to the event of Light. It shook the citizens of this town pretty much to where they have been too distracted by each other's theory to even resumed the rest of their day. I even want to put on a bet that its probably already attracted the attention of both the Mazoku and Dragon race alike, and it won't be long until something grand, either bad or good (there is not telling) will eventually reveal itself. I'm personally not too worried about it, unless I'm dragged into it of course. Which usually I am, and let me not jinxed myself for the second time.
The waters within the Demon Sea twisted and turn with rage. The waves as dark as the night's sky rise and fall, crashing about as the ocean churned in darkness. The atmosphere around soon matched the waters below as storm clouds began to gather and swirl, with bolts of lightning that it the sea below. As the tempest gathers, a great hole torn asunder in the heavens above, and a burst of light blasted forward. A burst of both energy and sound erupted as a figure, surrounded in light, slammed into the sea. The figure then sank in darkness before being consumed by sea foam.
I am starting to feel like I have this ongoing, constant cycle of where everyone wants ME, of all people, to go do their gopher work. Especially the well known Knight of Cepheid, who loves to cause a major inconvenience and have I do it, all because she doesn't want to? She never sets foot out of Zepheel! But no, she instead have her little sister go do it. I groan as a letter was waved in my face.
"Here you go!" A strange yet familiar raspy growl which was spoken in both an unnerving tone came from behind me. I spun around, and it was Dilgear! Wait, what? He works for her now? I did kinda wonder where he wondered off to after the first Rezo was defeated. So this is where he has been. What a Shocker! Not bad for a half dimwitted troll werewolf, but it seems like he has a thing for working for dysfunctional families. I mean originally he was working for Both Zelgadiss and Rezo, and now he is being my older sister's personal errand boy. Talk about jumping ships! I felt my heart pounded loudly in my ears as I opened the wax seal from the letter. Gourry, who always noisy when I get mail, gathered behind me peering over my shoulder as I ran to myself what She wrote:
"Go check out that light." That was all. Nothing else. She's always been a short yet simple when it came to what she wanted done. Only five words, but no one who ever thought that five, simple words can make someone completely freak out and wished they weren't alive. The worst part was I can't tell her no, she'd kill me if I didn't go do it. I felt a sense of dread weighing my spirit down, which made my blood run cold. Why do I always have to get involve in these matters? It's her job, not mines… UGH! So much for seeing mom and dad! Looks like I will have to stop what I want to do and get this done and over it. I glared at Dilgear as he nervously said a farewell before setting off to where home town was. I didn't say anything back, and watched in silence as he disappeared within the crowd. It was a moment after Dilgear left when Gourry decided to open his mouth:
"Lina," He licked his lips, pointing at the parchment with my sister chicken scratch on it. "Is that what I think it is?"
"Are you serious?" I shrieked as I rolled the parchment up, stuffing it in my travelers' pouch. "What do you think it is?"
"I dunno."He shrugged. "I figured it was like the last time you gotten one of those."
Sadly I couldn't tell him that it wasn't. The last time, A golden dragon priestess named Filia personally handled me something similar to this, but that was because she has try to make a personal request to someone who she didn't not know who refuse and lastly, suggest me. I also can't really tell him what it's about, other than to go investigate the light. There is no telling what we may go tied up with this time. I gritted my teeth and shook the more I thought about it. There is never a way out when it comes to these types of ordeals. Gourry and I set off to find a Inn nearby.
"So we have to do this?" Gourry asked as he pushed open the oak door to one of the local inns, allowing me to enter first. This Inn had a bar in it, and it was quite packed with many of traders and common folk alike. I just wished I matched everyone's mood: Cheerful and in a drunken state of bliss. I looked at Gourry as pitiful as I could before answering his question
"We have no other choice, Gourry." If he only knew the dire consequences, or understood why I nearly wanted to buried myself the last time I was asked like this, then he wouldn't be asking the obvious. Gourry sat in a chair next to me and pouted, like he actually for once didn't want to do this.
"Ah man. I really wanted to see your parents." He stated as he took a sip from the beer that the bar maiden sat before him. I was completely with him and nodded after I took a swig out of mines.
"So do we have to leave tonight?' His eyebrow rose as he peered over the rim of his tanker. I shook my head
"I planned on leaving first in the morning to head towards the West. " We had just traveled a good ways before we even got here, and now we have to literally turn back around and go the opposite way of where we originally wanted to go. I was at the point, with this along in the combination of things in the making, of where I just wanted to eat, drink, and go to sleep. Maybe this is all a dream and I don't have to go. I pinched myself out of curiosity, Yep, I felt that. This isn't a dream at all.
As we ate I ran down a plan with Gourry of how I wanted to wake up earlier enough to catch one of the carriages that was heading in that general direction. At least it will take us closer to where we need to be without the excessive walking and the time it takes to make it out to where the pillar resides, that is if the pillar manages to last that long enough for anyone to really track it (meaning as anyone that is humans, I image a monster and dragon could easily scoop that area out in no time, us humans don't have it that easy). This was a time sensitive task, and I hope I stressed it enough for a simple minded git like Gourry to comprehend. He seemed like he was, or at least acting like so by nodding his head. After we ate we then went to the inn keeper and rented a room for the night. I slapped a few more coins on the desk and in return the keeper slammed the key to the room next to my hand. Gourry and I thanked the dude and then made our way up a spiral staircase. There was a small loft with a handful of doors, which I went to the one inscribed on the iron key. I unlocked the door, and with a long squeak, it reveals a cozy looking room, trimmed in bright reds and soft greens. A single lantern flicker a light, giving it more of a warm feeling. I kicked my boots off and removed my mantle, which landed on the floor with a heavy clunk. I reached as high as my little body could and stretched, and with a whirl I found myself face planted on the softest pillow I've ever laid one, well one of the softest that is. As I inhale, the scent of fresh air and soap tickled my nose. I could hear Gourry shuffle around as he removed his heavy armor, sword, and boots, and then his weight as he shifted himself into a comfortable spot on the bed. The warmth from his body radiated, which made me warmer. I snuggled closer to him, in which I felt the weight of his arm on the small of my back. Soon I felt sleep take over, and in no time, we both had dozed off.
The sky continues to churn with dark ominous clouds as a storm has completely formed around the Pillar of Light. Winds blew and howl like hounds hunting in the night. Rain and hail flail from all directions, and thunder roars and lightning bolts scattered in their chaotic rhythm. It was a horrible state, and if there was anything living that was caught up in such a tempest; the very winds may torn such a poor creature into shreds. Yet, in a blink of an eye, a strange man, like a priest of some sort, appeared in mid air. His dark robes rustled against his body as the storm winds blew all around him. His head tilted, as he seems too been scanning the surface of the angry sea. A frown scolded his fair features for he could see a single thing in sight near that blasted pillar. As his hand grasp a long shaft he carried with him, a bolt of dark energy erupted from it and went aim to the Light, which reflected it completely off and unfazed. The priest them made the attempt to levitate forward to the Pillar, and the closer he got, the more its energy continue to push against him. Unpleased he stood with his arms crossed his eyes opened, and violet cat like iris glared at the lights direction.
"This is not good" He noted out loud, "She isn't going to like this at all." And with that, just as fast as he disappear, the priest waved his staff and vanished within an instant.
I was awake before Gourry was, but spent what felt like forever trying to wrestle his enormous leg off me. I was lucky that it woke him up in the process of trying to wiggle free from underneath it. We grunted and Groan as we gather our belongings and set off to where the carriages where being loaded. The sunrise painted the sky a bright pink and gold, and much to my dismay, the pillar was still gleaming just as bright. I want to be optimistic and say that hopefully it won't take as long to find out what and where it is, so I can come back and do what we wanted to do. There was a caravan that was heading to the outskirts to Telmoord, and it would take a few days time to get there. We both agree to it and gave the guy a gold coin for his troubles (meaning carrying extra weight, and extra weight as in Gourry, since he is double my size). We load up onto the caravan, and with a crack of a whip, the horses neighed and took off. The ride was bumpy, and there was a small stop in Dryad as the carrier has a few trades to do there, which after wards we got back on for the second half of the ride. We got off at the second stop, and from there we continued our pace on foot towards once again, Atlas city. It was at least mid afternoon when we had made it to the trail though the woods to the entrance of Telmood, so we may have at least a few hours before the sun sets to make it to the village if we don't get side track. The canopy of green leaves danced and twirl in the light as the breeze pushes though them. I hummed a tune to myself as Gourry and I continued to walk. There was a blood curling screech that happened deep within the woods to the left, and out came a man, judging by his looks, he may have been a bandit. It was hard to tell because he ran at top speed pass us. There was another one who rolled out of the tree line, we watched as he stumbled to his feet and staggered forwards. He then trips on his own feet, and with that he looked at us, his dark eyes widen with utter fear.
"RUN!" He shouted as he pointed at the area that he rolled like that mad man out of. "Make a run for it. She is crazy and is not worth the price on her."
"The price on her?" I repeated as I looked at Gourry as if he knew something I didn't. I know I have quite the reputation of me (Including my title, Enemy of all who live, which is really flattering to have if you ask me. Its better then what else people have gotten creative and called me) but I haven't had a warrant or a price on my head in over a year at least. Gourry gazed at me back and gave me a look like he had no idea what the moron was rambling on about.
"HEY!" There was voiced that boomed from that same area. It sounded feminine at that. "YOU FORGOT SOMETHING!"
Just then another man went flying, like he was tossed, from the wood and crashed with a smacking sound into the other guy who attempted to warn us. The way the guy landed kinda made it look like they were kissing, almost. I giggled as both guys fell onto the ground. They groaned and shift around, searching for their bearings. There were another set of foot falls coming from the woods, and the guys who were picking their asses off the ground began to panic. It was in a few moments that the owner of the voice, who yelled at the guy before throwing one at him, stepped out of the woods. In my surprise, it was a woman, and from what I could tell from this distance, she was pale, tall and had a lithe build. She wore a Black fitted trench coat, which had bushy fur around the collar and the trims. She had long, really wavy ebony hair, which had a sole white streak to the left of where she had her bangs rested at. She even also wore a pair of red tinted sun glasses. She appeared to being her late twenties, and I could tell that she was one of those women who were considering being above average. Ack! It's always women like her who usually make me feel insecure about my body in many ways, but enough of me ranting about my petite build, my attention was now on the guys who were struggling to get up before the woman graced us with her presence. One manages to dart away, leaving his partner behind to face the woman. There was a slight smirk on her face as she stride toward the whimpering dude, who looked like he was about to pissed his pants. As she makes her way to him, I could have sworn I've seen her skin sparkle…
"Get away from me you monster!" He cried as he tried to turn heel and haul ass, but failed as the woman grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt. With a squeal she flung him upwards to where his feet dangled a foot off the ground. Alright, I have concluded that this woman wasn't an ordinary one at that, there was definitely something odd about her. She barely flinched as the guy kicked and squirm himself loose from her grasp. He started to cry when she brought him closer to her face.
"I got your Monster." She said in a soft tone as she stared down the poor soul though those tinted glasses. She then grinned slightly before yelling "BOO" in the dudes' face. The guy literally soaked himself as tears streaked across his face, and with a chuckle, the woman tosses the guy, who then landed on the ground with a audible 'Oof'. That was a first, for me that is to wittiness some handle a few bandits like that. The bandit took off shortly in the same direction that his comrades took off in, which left Gourry and I alone with the strange woman. Our attention then turns to her, and she did the same with us. I shifted under my own skeptical feelings, especially since she just stood there, quiet and watching us to make a move or not. Finally after what seemed like a while, Gourry was the first to speak.
"Hey. I'm Gourry. Gourry Gabriev." He began, gesturing to himself and speaking slow. "And this is Lina. Lina Inverse. We are adventurers." I sighed as Gourry waved in my direction. We waited for a reaction from her, which she had none. She then stepped forward and spoke in a clear voice:
"My name is Proserpina." She placed her hand on her breast. "Proserpina Stone."
Well, Gourry, you made that a lot more easier then I would. I was debating myself to talk or become defensive, but Gourry must've seen something else. I know he may not be the brightest, but his instinct is rather keen, and he is known to be observant in situations. Gourry then stepped forward with his hand outstretch towards Proserpina, in which she grabs briefly to shake.
"See." Gourry voice was full of mirth as if he had made a new friend. "We aren't bad guys."
Sure. Gourry what makes you think she isn't one at all? I'm over here still being a tad skeptical about a woman that can toss a full grown man like a rag doll. Their handshake was brief as Proserpina let loose her grip. I eventually got curious and wanted a good look at her, and made my way to Gourry's side. As I look up at her, the sun caught her odd skin again. It did sparkle, and it also had a strange pearlescent gleam in her complexion. The closer I got the odder things about her I picked up, like the specks of sparkles were…scales. I think Gourry and I have might have gotten too close to her, because as soon as Gourry reached for the sides of her head, she stepped back. Proserpina had a wary expression on her face, and Gourry lean closer to me.
"I think she's got horns." He whispered in my ear, and my eyes went to where he originally tried to grab her at and no shit, there was something protruding, about the size of my pinky, from the sides of her forehead. They weren't really all that noticeable at first, well at least until Gourry pointed them out. They were black as her hair on the ends, and were ivory towards the scalp. She must have also heard Gourry say that to me, because she had glared at him and scoffed, crossing her arms. I noticed on her hands that she have very long, claw like nails.
"Are you guys done staring?" She asked as her eyebrow arch upwards. "I take it you don't see types like me on the daily?"
We both nodded our heads, it was true. We weren't sure what she was, at least not yet.
"She looks like one of those things…." Gourry blurted over my shoulder. His eyes darted back and forth from Proserpina and me.
'Like one of those things….' I thought to myself. What could Gourry be going about now? What is he aware of that I'm not catching on other then this woman has scales, horns, and claws?
Gourry press forward to where he was in front of Proserpina again, who shifted under her feet. He opened his mouth and closed it, and narrows his eyebrows, before turning to me.
"Lina," Oh boy, here we go. "What's that thing call that Zel is?"
"Gourry, what the hell are you getting at-"My own train of thought caught me off. Zel, or Zelgadis, is one of our friends (well mostly mine) is a chimera. Wait a minute!
"Sorry Gourry." I murmured. "I think you're looking for the word Chimera…" Gourry Blinked and his eyes went wide. "Yeah she looks like one of those Lina!" Both of our gazes lingered on Proserpina, who held up her hand in defense. I'm going to agree with Gourry on this one.
"Please don't get funny ideals." She suggested in a nervous voice. "I've had been dealing with some crazy ass people ever since I've gotten here." She took a deep breath. "First it was my tail, then my eyes, then your people want my skin-"
"Whoa! Whoa!" Gourry voiced boomed over hers. "Nobody here wants your skin or horns." He stated pointing at her. "And what do you mean by your eyes, we don't even know what they look like because you're wearing those!" Gourry pointed at the shades she still had one, and with a scold that formed on her lips, she removed them.
Gourry and I gasped in shocked. Proserpina's eye color, was no lie, as gold as they can be. Now I see why she was hunted. Someone saw her eyes and was like thinking they could make a fortune off those peepers she had. I'm confused about the tail though, and from what I can tell I doubt she had one. The trench cost she had on really fit to her form. So she just seems to be a Chimera of some sort of composite that may be of Dragon, mixed with a lesser demon, or creature of some sort, and a human base from what I can tell. At least that is what I've could place together for her strange appearance in some way. I'd say she lucked out, compare to what I've seen, she's rather gorgeous!
"Hey Proserpina, Right?' I address after her and she nodded. "We are just trying to figure out what you are, and possibly where you're from, because the both of us have traveled all over this land, and this is our first time of seeing someone-"I paused, searching for the right word. I didn't want her to feel any more uncomfortable then what she was already feeling. "Of your composition"
"I don't think where I'm from exists here." Proserpina turned in the direction where the pillar was. She let out a sharp exhale. "And I'm not quite sure if I can go back. Well at least not now."
Her words echoed in my head. 'I don't think where I'm from exists here." I am getting the feeling that our new acquaintance may just have that "I'm from a different world" vibe from her. She may be from one of the few parallel universes, and from all we know her civilization may be more advance. Judging by the way she dress, and her composition, (I'm still ruling with the factor that she is a Chimera, maybe of that of a higher caliber, which may rule the fact that her world is way more advance then ours) Proserpina just seems like a woman, who is really out of place, and is currently on the run for who knows what, other than she claims that she is being hunted just because of her exotic features. I still can't believe people, of all the things, to resort right to the most violent way of welcoming an outsider into our world. I'm starting to feel like she may have as much questions as I do, which may end up benefiting me in the long run. I weighed out my options, there was no way I intent on starting a fight; besides, Proserpina seem rather peaceful in the first place. I could probably ask around and see what she is up to at least, but it seem like Gourry had already beaten me to that bright idea…
"Where are you from then?" Proserpina and I exchange glances before responding to Gourry.
"I came thought a portal my brother had opened, He had… pushed me in" Wait a minute, am I hearing this right? Did she just say portal? Like a gateway portal?
"How does that even work?" Good old Gourry again beats me to the punch to another question. "I know Lina is a Sorceress, but this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone opening a portal." Gourry wasn't entirely right, in fact, the last portal, or gateway as it was called, was opened by a god, which included weapons in the nature of the Sword of Light, which was original from Dark Star's world. It somehow to found its way within this world, and mange to float from owner to owner, until Gourry was the last person to solely process it. It was destroyed, along with the other four, when Dark Star Dugradigdu was defeated, and its remaining energy was used to close up that gateway to that world. So, how can Proserpine claim that her brother somehow opened yet another gateway? Is that even possible for human to even achieve such an art? Her answers are only going to make more questions. I feel like I am gonna end up running in circles without a rundown first of the background of her world's gods and demons, and it they have any type of knowing about the Lord of Nightmares.
"My brother inherited that from our mother." Proserpina's confident tone broke the current silence, which was starting to make my ears rings. "I inherited different abilities as well, but my brother was able to open a portal, but not just to here, but the other one as well."
Her brother went to a different world? Proserpina then begin to explain of how there was a bloodline of her mother's side, who are born with unique abilities. She added that her brother and she are twins, but yet they are both heavily contrasted. He was gifted with the ability to open gateways, or portals (whichever made more sense at this point. I think they are both in the same) which she got the other gifts, that are somewhat explain in the terms of both 'destruction and the stars' (That went completely over my head to be honest). She went on about how her mother pushed them both, even intense at times with cruel training, to get the both to activate their abilities. Speaking of which, I'm pretty interested in what she is capable of, besides having in human strength. I'm beginning to get irritated because I can see the sun starting to set, yet I rather sit here and talk with Proserpina about the possibly of inherited magic and how that all works. At least I'm under the impression that it is some sort of magic to begin with. And I wonder if there is some type of key or items, similar to like how the five weapons's of Dark Star was used to open the gateway to his world. Maybe their version of Chaos is what they call the Lord of Nightmares (being that it is the Sea of Chaos.) or some other name. I so wanted to ask more, but when don't have that much day light to sit idly and talk about worlds.
"Hey." I called after both. "Let's hold this off for now, as much as I want to ask way and chit chat, but we have to consider collecting some firewood, and maybe catch some food, before we lose sun light that is." Proserpina nodded, but Gourry stared off in space for a bit before he then jumped to his feet. The three of us worked together, harvesting edible fungi and wood for fire. We were lucky to have a small stream nearby, perfect for my all time favorite: FISHING! I search for me a flexible stick, and plucked out one of my long hairs, and with a couple of fastens you get a classic Lina Inverse's Rod. Great for multiple catches! Limited time stocks only, please place your order as soon as you can.
I flicked the worm at the end to get it to wiggle, and with a sling, it landed with a splash into the water. I whistle out my own little spell to catch these fish. Ha. It works every time. I felt a good tug, and with a slight whip, a good size carp flies out of the bank, and onto the ground, flopping helplessly. Proserpina sat there with such an amused look on her face. It felt pretty good to show off some of my impressive skills, which also includes fishing. She searches for herself a flexible stick, and like me, plucked a strain of hair. She flicks the worm to get it to wiggle and then, with a really great cast, launches it. It was a moment after I caught a couple more fish that she pulled in a much bigger carp (Hey! Not fair!) We worked together catching more fish, until we had a decent pile going on. Gourry was successful at getting a fire going while we girls worked on getting the rest needed for a decent meal. We lined the ingredients together, wondering what we are going to make out of it all.
"We could make a stew." Proserpina suggested, and it sounded great as my stomach response with a long growl.
"But we don't have a pot." I just realize that. We may have come a tad unprepared, and I was more focus on getting there to the blasted pillar as fast as I could. So I didn't plan on taking a long break, little less camping out. Proserpina was to blame on that change of plan.
"Oh I got one." Proserpina opened her coat, which beneath that look like she had on a solid black top, and what looked like a corset like bustier of a pomegranate shade on top of it, which fitted snug under her bust. She had one black worn pants, and heavy looking boots. There was a slight gleam on her neck, but I couldn't tell what it was. She was fumbling around on her left side, in what looked like a pouch, it was black as well. My eye caught a shiny glint or a handle of some weapon that was tucked in what looked like a harness. Proserpina then pulls out an apple sized object; some type of silver cube, made of out with what looked like smaller cubes.
"This thing is so neat!" She exclaimed as she moved each little square, twisting them to rotate each individual square. "I bet you don't have one in this world, huh?"
I felt like she was bragging, but then again, if I had something like that I would brag was well. Like have look at my nest stuff, too bad your world doesn't have it. I would be guilty of the same thing. Proserpina then grins as she then presses the top center cube. A glowing light then envelops the cube, which transforms into a much larger one. That was pretty impressing! I looked at Gourry, because he silence had me concern, and he was transfix in a daze, slightly drooling on him. I wonder if there is anything in Proserpine's world that could fix his lameness. Proserpina opens the box, and pulls out a large side cooking pot.
"And we now have a pot!" She sounded so proud of herself. I would be, she did just make dinner way better! I helped her set up a holder out of strong limbs, then we sat up the pot, added some water, and added the roots, mushrooms, and a few herbs she had stashed in that cube. "We should add the fish last." Proserpina stirred the pot with a ladle. The water twirled with bubbles as it began to boil. She continued to stir, until the roots were soft enough for her to add in the fish.
"So," I began as I watch her stir it on final time before setting a lid on. "If your brother can open gateways, I'm curious to exactly you are capable of?" I hope I wasn't pushing it when I asked that. I can see Proserpina sidelong glance me as she released a small sign before turning to face me.
"I want to assume that your world doesn't have knowledge of the origins of 'the Demiurge and the tangible?" She politely asked while reading our faces. Gourry bored his usual dumbfounded expression and I just raised my eyebrows and shook my head. "Well my abilities or magic, is based off the knowledge of the Demiurges, and the deities beyond that, and the influence they have on our world due to our connection with these certain higher existence." Proserpina pursed her lips for a moment before continuing; "Well, we call them the curves and angles. The tangible is the reality we know that lies in the curves, while the demiurges, celestial and primordial being existed in the angles. Each curve and angle is a state divided by great boundaries." She stopped to make sure that we were still following her. "Go on." I encouraged her as I shifted under my weigh. The ground is only but so much comfortable after a while.
"it's pretty complicated to explain at this moment, but here a simplified version of it; in the very beginning, there was nothing but the Void, a state of nothingness, or what we called the dark Womb. From the dark Womb, or the Void, exploded with a great burst of energy, the World Soul was emerged from the darkness. Next came forth what we call Chaos whom became the creator, our Demiurge, which crafted what we know as the Tangible, or the physical life we are currently experiencing at this moment. Each one lives in a different domain, yet the ones above can interfere with all, while the Void is the most distance. I was taught and train to both connect and channel this energy at command, even one of that which calls a small fragment of the void itself."
Gourry raised his hand. "What are their names?" He inquired. Completely off subject to what Proserpina was explaining, which she just look at him with a questionable expression. "What do you mean by names, Gourry?"
"Of the gods you believe in?" Since when he was so interested in gods of any type, let alone he couldn't even remember the names of the ones we have in this world! "Why is that so important?" I hissed at him. I figured that she would eventually get to that point at some point. Proserpina removed the lid and stirs the soup again. It smelt divine. I could feel my mouth watered as the steam puffed out into the air. I admit that girl does have taste. Yet their beliefs on how the world work is somewhat both interesting, yet farfetched. It would be something I would eventually dig around if the subject was of topic. "That's a rather lengthy list, you have names, and then you have the epithets…" Gourry just sat there looking all completely blank, with no thought, or a blink to register that he had any kind of grasp on this subject at all. I think his brain went on a shut down, because he started to drool a bit on himself. His thoughtless glance went from Proserpina, to his bowl, maybe he has hoping the food would help him understand it all. I doubt it, so I threw a rock at him, which smacked him on the side of his forehead.
"Ow, Lina! He whined, as he pouted. "That hurt. Why did you do that?"
"Eh," I finished the last bit of my soup before helping my side to thirds. "You look like you were about to fall asleep there, so I did what I thought was right." He narrowed his brow at me and frowns. "Throwing stuff at people is not a nice thing to do." I can be nice, but I can't help that I'm this way to Gourry. He's not bad, but he is more dense then stone. The soup didn't last long, and I think I gotten like five bowls before Gourry went full piggy on the last of it and gobbled it up before I had the chance too. It was tasty, yet filling. I yawned as I stood up. Yep, here comes the sleepiness after you eat. I just wished I had a place to lie down at. I looked down and saw Gourry hunched over the fire, poking at it as he shifted though the embers. I kneeled down beside him, and he leaned over towards me.
"Awe! Look at you two!" Proserpina cooed, as she blew a couple of kisses while she dried out her pot. "So sweet!" I glared at her. She looked at me and giggled. She then fumbled around with the same cube from previously, and then pulled out some blankets and a sleeping mat, which she tossed towards Gourry and me. We unfolded it and flatted it down. It began to take shape and puff out a bit. I grabbed myself a blanket and plopped down on the mate, and holy shit, this thing is like lying on a cloud. I let out a sigh of content. Good call, Proserpina. Wrapping myself up in what was incredibly soft blanket, I could felt my body melt as I got really comfortable where I was at.
"Where is your mat?" I heard Gourry asking Proserpina. I turn my head to look at her.
"I don't need one."
"Well, where are you going to sleep at?" I snorted. Geez, Gourry. What are you her father?
"I don't know." Proserpina said casually. "I may just post up in a tree?"
"Why would you want to sleep in a tree?" Gourry does have a fair point.
"Well, Gourry. If you were being hunted, the last place you want to sleep is on the ground, which will make you easier to see, right?"
"OH, that makes sense." He nodded. "But would you fall out of the tree and hurt yourself?"
Proserpina let out a laugh. "Don't worry about me, I got this. I'm going to wrap my legs with a bungee cord."
And with that, she jumped and disappeared. Gourry sat there and blinked. "Where did she go?"
"I'm up here." I heard her voice from somewhere in the tree canopy above. "Good night Guys"
"Good night." I felt Gourry wiggled himself into a blanket next to me. He was soon drifted into sleep, while I watched the last bit of the embers pop and crack as the last bit of the flames died down. My mind raced and wonder, I thought about today, especially after the ways things had all came about: The pillar, the letter, the bored ride here, at least up to the point of meeting Proserpina. That was the highlight of events so far. Even though what she has so far said doesn't connect any dots, I'm hoping she at least sticks around long enough for me to figure out the intentions of why she is here in the first place. Is this something that has been going on in that realm, being that those powers that she mentioned, they got it from their mother. Does that mean Proserpina is more then what she leads on to be, or is she bluffing? Is really a thing known as Chaos magic out there? I stared up at the trees, knowing that she was tied up somewhere, probably wide awake, watching the ground below. I fought the urge to yell out to her, but still choose to lay there in silence. I shouldn't get carried away by those thoughts, and it could end up horrible. I feel like with dealing with a rather friendly (or at least she seems to be overall) chick who happened to be from another world. I may have to be nice, and not step out of place. It wouldn't hurt to make a new friend, and I definitely don't want her as an enemy. Who knows, maybe she has a few powerful items on her, and she gives it to me. Maybe one like that neat little cube. I grinned at myself, and closed my eyes.
