The following Sunday, Sakuya called everyone to the castle. She started off by bringing Rias and Shoichiro into her lab.
"Rias, I finished analyzing your robes to try and figure out why you had that heart attack during the Rating Game."
"Oh really? What were you able to find out?"
"Actually, before I make any conclusions I'd like to run a few tests. And I'm going to need Shoichiro's help."
"All right."
"I'm going to basically hook you up to my computers... which means you need to get naked first."
"Umm... okay. Shoichiro, do you mind stepping out of the room for a moment?"
"...Seriously?" he scoffed, but he did as she asked. Once he was out of the room, Rias stripped as Sakuya had requested.
"So tell me," Sakuya probed as she applied the electrodes to Rias' bare skin, "what exactly are your intentions with my little brother and sister?"
"What? What do you mean by 'intentions?'"
"I mean you already got what you wanted, right? The end of your engagement to Riser Phoenix... yet you still insisted on living with not only him, but his other consort as well. Naturally I'm more than a little curious as to why."
Rias was nervous at this sudden interrogation. "Why are you asking me this?"
"...Because he's my baby brother, and it's my duty to look out for him."
"You don't trust me."
"On the contrary, I trust you wholeheartedly. I know that whatever feeling you have for Shoichiro are genuine -"
"I do not have feelings for Shoichiro!" Rias hissed embarrasedly.
Sakuya merely cocked her eyebrow. "Really? Is that why your heart started racing when I mentioned that?"
"No it didn't!" Rias trying to bluff, but only for a moment. "...how could you tell?"
"Umm, hello? I have your tit in my hand as we speak."
Rias slapped Sakuya's hand away out of sheer reflex, which the good doctor just laughed off as she attached the last couple electrodes. "I'm just trying to help you out, Rias. My brother likes you, that much I can promise you. And I can tell you like him."
"Really? You... really think he likes me?"
"I'm a scientist; I make it my duty to observe the world around me, as well as the people in it. And my scientific instinct tells me that his affection for you has grown."
Sakuya gave Rias' breasts a firm squeeze out of nowhere. "As well as his arousal... geez, how does he find all these girls with phenomenal ta-tas?"
"I guess he has a type..." Rias deadpanned as she finally put her robes on.
"Maybe..." Sakuya attached a few leads to the robes and called Shoichiro back in. "All right, I want you to power up your Clockwork Blaze twice."
"All right, easy enough."
{BOOST!}
"Rias, I want you to bring up your magic power. Just to the point where I can measure it."
"Okay..." Bringing up her aura of destruction was easy enough.
"Perfect... readouts are stable."
{BOOST!}
"Now Shoichiro, transfer your power to Rias."
"Got it." He laid his armored claw on her shoulder.
{AMPLIFY!}
"Okay... hmm... I see... Shoichiro, do you remember how many times you boosted before transferring to Rias in the Game?"
"Twenty."
"Ah hah... just as I suspected!"
Sakuya pulled up the readouts on a large screen. "Dragonweave amplifies the magical power of anyone who wears it. Shoichiro's Sacred Gear amplifies anything he touches with it. What happened just now was, your Clockwork Blaze worked on both Rias and her robes, which in turn also worked on Rias. Her power output went up 16 times, when it should have only been four. Which means in the Game, you boosted her power by a total of... let me do the math... Dragonqueen's grace, over one trillion! Needless to say it ended up being more power than she could handle, and her heart almost exploded as a result."
"Holy shit... but Asia also wore dragonweave robes during the Game. Why wasn't she affected in the same way?"
"I actually have a couple theories theory on that, but I'll have to do her physical before I can confirm them. The simplest one would be having Twilight Healing within her to keep her systems stable. The other... well... bears more research."
"And when do you plan to do this... research?"
"Right now, it's why I called you all here. Somehow in the confusion of the Rating Game, Lord Beelzebub's 'hybrid pieces' experiment seems to have been forgotten, but I should probably provide him some results. I'm giving everyone a full physical, complete with DNA analysis."
"Interesting... Rias, you probably want to do yours first since you're already hooked up to the machines." With that, he left to wait his turn.
Sakuya completed her examinations and her findings were... interesting, to say the least.
Rias and Kiba were still 100 percent devil.
Akeno was half-devil, half-fallen angel.
Koneko was half-devil, half-something else which Koneko chose not to disclose at the time.
Shoichiro's Pawns were 100 percent angel - apparently fallen and holy shared the same genetic archetype.
Lysandra was still 100 percent dragon.
Finally, all that remained were Asia and Shoichiro himself. She began with Asia.
"Okay, you know the routine by now."
"...yeah, I guess so." Asia stripped down naked at the doctor's orders. She had undergone these examinations every month since she first showed up at Arceus' castle and was subjected to Lysandra's magic ritual.
That didn't make it any more comfortable, though.
Sakuya directed her to the scale and took her height and weight, as usual. "Hmm... five-foot-nine, and... pounds."
She then whipped a measuring tape around Asia's torso. "Thirty-four under, and forty-two over... lemme do the calculations..."
Sakuya facepalmed at the results of her measurements, before repeating them twice more to ensure they were accurate. "You're a 34DDD now... dammit Asia, stop growing!"
"Sorry, can't help it," Asia said sheepishly as she got dressed.
"...I know you can't." She'd never admit as much out loud, but Sakuya was sorely jealous of the other girls' curvy proportions. "What I don't know is what's causing it."
"Can't you guess?"
Sakuya looked at Asia like she'd just punted her in the babymaker. "'Guess?' Asia, I am a scientist; I do not 'guess.' I reason based on logic and evidence - I do not 'guess!'"
"All right, I'm sorry!"
Sakuya took a deep breath. "Sorry, I just get extremely infuriated by suggestions that I 'guess' at anything science related. Mostly because I hate being wrong... anyway, you know the last step."
"Right." Asia gave her blood sample for analysis, but while she waited Sakuya decided to needle her over her choice of undergarments.
"And how are you seducing my brother in a sports bra and white cotton panties?"
"I don't know!" Asia replied, completely mortified.
"Neither do I... I just don't get it."
"...But if it makes you feel any better, I'm not in them very long when I'm around him anyway!" Asia snapped back.
Sakuya couldn't help but laugh at that. "Fair point. He loves you, and that's all that matters." She turned to the DNA analysis, which her computer had finally finished. "Well, this is interesting... 90 percent dragon, 10 percent devil."
"Wow... so you're saying I'm no longer a human?"
"Not from a genetic standpoint, at least. Your biology and physiology are completely different. How can I explain this... your body is still built like a human, but not necessarily operating like one. With that in mind..."
Sakuya reached for a drawer, but quickly closed it. "Never mind... I need to examine Shoichiro before we go down that route."
"Go down what route?"
"Never mind, forget I said anything." She gave Asia a sisterly hug before escorting her from the clinic.
Finally it was Shoichiro's turn. His height and weight were just as surprising as Asia's - six-foot-nine and 276 pounds - but at least his rapid growth could be pointed to the fact that one of his parents was a dragon. He submitted his blood for analysis, and...
"90 percent dragon, 10 percent devil."
"You're kidding me, right?"
"You can read the screen just as well as I can, right?"
"So Beelzebub lied when he -"
"No, he didn't lie... he was wrong." Sakuya was quick to cut him off because she knew where he was going with that outburst. He had felt manipulated by the devils ever since meeting Rias Gremory, and the idea that Ajuka Beelzebub had deliberately turned him into a devil against his consent would do nothing to further that opinion. "He said it himself: the idea of the Hybrid Pieces was a theory that you were testing for him."
"Looks like this particular theory failed."
"Exactly: it failed. That's an inevitability in science."
"Inevitability?"
Sakuya sighed. "You have to remember: you study science. As admirable as that is, you're studying the work of people who have come before you, people whose work has been experimented, proven correct, replicated... imagine how many people's work you haven't studied because they were proven wrong."
He rolled his eyes. "Fair point."
"But back to your DNA - you've been evolving more and more into a dragon since you first awakened. Then you became a devil, which overwrote what little human DNA you had left."
"Overwrote?"
"Human DNA is subject to a myriad of mutations. It's the most malleable genetic material there is, because changing it is a simple matter of changing the protein bonds where they link. All it takes is arranging a few carbons, hydrogens and oxygens in a different pattern."
"Interesting... I guess I'll take your word for it."
"Although..."
"Although what, loj muam?"
"...nothing. I just need to see Asia again. But before I do..." She tossed him a specimen cup. "Do me a favor and fill this up."
"With what, exactly? That is an oddly unspecific request."
"With... you know."
"I really don't." She said nothing, just made a vulgar hand signal. "Oh... that? You couldn't just ask for a semen sample, doctor?"
"...whatever, just give me the goods."
He rolled his eyes, but stepped into the restroom to give her the 'goods' she had requested... although certainly more than she had expected.
"What am I supposed to do with all this?"
"Whatever you asked for it for in the first place, I guess."
"Geez... do you, you know -"
"Fill Asia up this much? No... she can't really handle it. But I do it to Kalawarner, and I paint Lysandra with it - she's a real cumslut."
Sakuya just facepalmed. "I could have gone my entire life without -"
"Seeing your sister and imagining what her face looks like dripping with cum?"
"Yes. Exactly that."
"Well, now you'll never get that visual out of your head."
"...Why exactly are you the way that you are?"
"Because people bring it out of me."
"Dragonqueen's grace..."
"Hlub koj, loj muam," he said with a smirk.
Sakuya stared daggers at him while her systems analyzed the sample he had so generously provided. "Hmm... this is very interesting. At least I still won't have to worry about any nieces or nephews for a while."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"Think back to the conversation you and I had where I told you demidragons typically can't reproduce, because their sex cells don't know whether to try to produce a dragon or a human.
"I remember." It was the day he had learned his older sister Haruhi would never have children of her own, which is why she 'adopted' him from their mother.
"Remember how I said that genetically you were now 90 percent dragon?"
"How could I forget? It was five minutes ago."
"One thing about dragons is they don't reach sexual maturity until they're about 30 years old. Being a human biologically and physiologically means you can perform the act itself, but being a dragon genetically means it's... well..."
"Means I'm a few years away from being able to actually have kids of my own."
"But you will, in time. And I theorize based on the evidence available to me right now" - she was unbelievably careful not to use the word 'guess' - "that when you can, your contribution will be one hundred percent dragon."
"So mine and Asia's babies will be demidragons, just like me?"
That gave Sakuya pause, as she remembered that Asia's DNA was proportioned exactly like his. "Actually, now that you mention that, I need to speak with her again. Which means you need to go."
"All right, if you insist." He left and sent Asia back to see Sakuya. "So remember when I said I don't guess at anything - I operate on logic and evidence?"
"Yes..."
"Well, I need to ask you something: what can you tell me about your parents?"
Asia was stunned, and barely whispered her answer. "Other than the fact they abandoned me at a church when I was born, not much..."
"Dragonqueen's grace, I had no idea... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so insensitive."
"Why did you ask?"
"Because you and Shoichiro have a lot in common, and I had hoped to reach a logical conclusion about why that is. But there are just too many unknowns at work."
"Oh... I see."
"But, if it will make you feel better, I'll do the closest thing I'll ever do to guessing."
"What's that?"
"Looking at everything in front of me, I can safely conclude your draconic evolutions are due to one of two things. Either it's being born with the Aspects within you, or one of your parents was a dragon."
"You really think one of my parents was a dragon?"
"No, I'm just acknowledging the scientific possibility of it, based on the evidence I have available to me. It'd be nice if Yserastrasza had anything to contribute."
[I do not,] the Green Dragon Emperor replied curtly. She wasn't one for idle chatter the way Chronostrasza was. Her entire existence up to this point had been predicated on staying silently in the background, bestowing her gifts with as little fanfare or spectacle as possible. In fact, Asia Argento might be the first host she had ever even revealed her existence to. She had her reasons for that, but they were hers and hers alone.
"...Of course not. Well, there we are," Sakuya said with a shrug.
"Yeah... there we are," Asia said, trying her best not to break down in tears. Sakuya noticed that and put an arm around the girl, and that was it. She burst into tears, wails and sobs, and Sakuya just hugged her for several minutes until her outburst had subsided.
"Asia?"
"...yes?"
"Even if you go through life never knowing who your parents are, remember this: we are your family. You have brothers, sisters and a mother who love you like you were our very own, and I know you and Shoichiro are going to make a great husband and wife one day."
"I know... and thank you, I love you all too. But... do you really think... Shoichiro wants to, you know... marry me?"
"What? Asia, you... okay, maybe you don't see the way he is with you the way the rest of us do, because he's with you, but believe me when I say this: when you're with him, it's like... I don't know, like a switch gets flipped or something. If you don't believe me, here's what I want you to do: go find him and sit in his lap. Don't say anything, don't do anything else. Just sit in his lap, and watch what happens."
"Okay, I'll give that a try." They went to the living room, where Shoichiro was sitting around the table enjoying tea and chatting with the rest of the family. Asia silently slipped around to one of his sides and sat in his lap as Sakuya had instructed her, and he kissed her on the forehead and wrapped his arms around her. Suddenly he was louder, chattier, laughing and smiling more, evident to everyone at the table except him and Asia. Sakuya just smiled as she took her seat.
A great husband and wife indeed...
About a month passed, and everyone was settling into life at Kuo Academy.
It took him a while, but Shoichiro finally got used to seeing his mother and siblings - seven full-blood dragons in human form - at school every day. His mother Arceus had become a math teacher, apparently under orders of the Dragonqueen and with the assistance and support of the Devil King Lucifer, while his siblings had all become first-year students.
And every day, Arceus would scold Shoichiro for wearing a black leather vest with his school uniform at the behest of Sona Shitori, which guaranteed he would continue wearing it just to get under the student council president's skin.
At night, he was training more with his Sacred Gear itself while also doing his normal physical workouts. He was now strong enough to create small bursts of dragon fire, then Amplify them in different ways.
Although living with Rias was... straining, at times, she was showing him the ropes of being a devil lord. Apparently one thing devils did was perform services for normal humans, whom they would then form contracts with. The summons were done with fliers, which Shoichiro had to create the sigil for himself - he took great pride in that. She had also taken him and his servants to find familiars of their own. Asia found a small blue dragon that spat lightning instead of fire, and the two took to each other right away. Shoichiro, meanwhile, had tracked down a peculiar creature Chronostrasza called a mana hunter: a four-legged lizard-like creature with white and red scales that fed exclusively on magic.
The angels weren't entirely too keen on performing such duties, as they still had hopes of one day returning to Heaven together, as a unit. Fortunately, Shoichiro managed to find requests for them to fulfill that were... tame, by devil standards at least. Misato found someone who wanted help cooking, while Yuriko met someone who just wanted someone to sing them to sleep. Shoichiro, Asia and Lysandra did most of the heavy lifting, although he did have a rule: no requests involving sexual contact.
Not because he didn't want 'his girls' sleeping with other people, he didn't like the idea of them being forced to do so by the rules of the contract.
One night Shoichiro jumped to a client's location, and his magical radar just blew up as soon as he landed. Whoever made this summon, it was definitely a powerful individual.
"I guess Kalawarner is busy tonight?"
Shoichiro turned to the sound of the voice, and saw a fairly ordinary looking guy. He had dark hair with some light fringe at the front, a scraggly goatee, and he wore a plain grey robe that could be found literally anywhere... so just who the hell was he?!
"Yeah," he replied evenly. Kalawarner hadn't even been in town since Shoichiro's group started taking summons, so how the hell could he drop her name so casually?
"Well, such is life sometimes... care for a drink?"
"Sure... what have you got?"
"All I have is sake... but you're a minor, aren't you?"
"Sake's fine."
"If you insist."
Shoichiro and his client spent several hours drinking sake and playing video games, before the client was ready to call it a night. "What would you like as payment?"
"Hmm... how about the truth of why a fallen angel is summoning devils?"
The client was shocked, but only briefly. "How'd you figure me out?"
"I sensed a strong magical power as soon as I arrived. Not to mention you name-dropping one of my servants as soon as you opened your mouth, who just so happens to also be a fallen angel. Therefore, logic dictates a good chance you're a fallen angel as well... and a pretty strong one."
His client rubbed his chin in careful thought. "You're as smart as she said you were... the truth is, it's hard to find a good drinking partner."
"A... drinking partner? You couldn't just call up another fallen angel for that?"
"Other fallen angels are intimidated by my position."
"What position would that be, exactly?"
"Oh, right... I guess I should formally introduce myself." He uncased twelve black wings. "I am Azazel, Governor General of the Fallen Angels. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Shoichiro Seiryuu."
PoV: Shoichiro
Rather than teleport home, I decide to walk from Azazel's apartment.
I judge it to about an hour and a half trek, giving me plenty of time to think.
Feels like forever ago when I was a normal, average human teenager. Being raised by two normal, average human parents.
Before I was - in order - gutted like a fish by a fallen angel, reincarnated by the dragon spirit possessing me, informed I was actually part dragon, and made into a devil.
Then I started surrounding myself with devils, angels and fallen angels, who according to Kaa-san are basically holding out a ceasefire on some ancient war.
The Devil Kings of this era made some sort of deal with the current Dragonqueen, which involved making me a devil.
And to top it all off, the former boss of one of my main squeezes has enlisted me to be his drinking buddy.
Well... at least my life isn't boring.
Oh... did I mention the part where I found out my grandmother is actually my mother, my mother is really my sister, and my stepfather can no longer live with us because we're all not really human?
But getting back to Azazel... turns out he got one of my fliers from Kalawarner before she left for her training. He's been sheltering her ever since the ritual went bad - no thanks to me - which apparently pissed off some other pretty high-ranking fallen angels. According to him, the whole plot to steal Sacred Gears was at best done without his knowledge, and part of an insurrection at worst. Keeping them all in line has been... somewhat challenging, considering he doesn't know the extent of the corruption in his ranks, or their true motives. Or so he claims, anyway...
Needless to say, my main concern is for the safety of my House, my family and myself, but he assures me that he has his people on enough of a leash to where they won't retaliate against us, out of fear of reprisals from him. That's good to know... although I do remind him what happened at the church just to be on the safe side. News he is all too familiar with, having heard the story from Kalawarner as well as other fallen angels.
Interestingly enough, he not only apologizes for but accepts responsibility for Raynare murdering me in the first place. Putting that together with his de facto adoption of Kalawarner, and I get the feeling that I can kind of trust him, and I feel like having him on my side is better than not. So we agree to get together for drinks again two nights from now.
The devils are already on my side, having forged a formal alliance with the dragons. Cozying up to the big boss of the fallen angels might not be a bad idea... add to the fact that I'm also sheltering several heavenly angels, and maybe it could be enough to end this conflict between them for good... but those questions are way above my pay grade.
I'm about halfway home when it starts to rain. At first it's gentle, cool and refreshing, the kind of rain I'd take Asia outside in so we could slow dance in the backyard. But by the time I'm a couple blocks from home, it's turned into a full-blown thunderstorm.
I've read enough classical literature to know it's a bad omen, so I can't help but only be partially surprised when a man stumbles out of an alley. At first it looks like he's drunk, but he tilts toward me begging for help... and to top it all off, he's dressed like a priest.
Then someone follows him out of the alley, cackling like a madman and waving a big fucking sword around like a toy.
"Neener-neener, yoo-hoo! It's been a while, hasn't it... did you miss me?"
I don't fucking believe it...
