Family Matters
Author's Note: A short scene of an imagined family moment. For Week 4 for Febressuary 2022.
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
"You weren't supposed to be here, in the hospital, until tomorrow," Robby said chuckling as he turned and saw Agnes looking into a bag of crafts his mom had brought down from Detroit. They were standing in the hallway of labor and delivery.
"Well, the baby seemed to have plans that didn't include a scheduled c-section," Ressler joked nervously as he rubbed his hands together. "I'm glad you and ma were coming a day early because, as it turns out, we needed you a day early."
"How's she doing?" Robby asked as he gripped his brother's shoulder.
"Resting right now, but I gotta get back in there," Ressler said nervously. "We're both a little on edge. She's done this before but that was 9 years ago. And I'm the rookie."
Robby looked at his brother's pale expression and his nervous hand rubbing and knew he needed to say something to calm him down.
"After the second one it gets easier," Robby chuckled.
"Sure, it does," Ressler chuckled remembering Robby's ex Patty say how he couldn't even tell the nurse their last name when they got to the hospital to deliver their third.
"Well, ma and I will take care of Agnes and you take care of Liz and the newest Ressler when he or she decides to make an appearance," Robby smiled at his brother.
"Thanks man," Ressler leaned in and hugged his brother, needing his family's support and happy they were there.
Aram had offered to take Agnes when Liz's water broke but with Robby and his ma on their way it seemed easier to just bring her to the hospital with them. And, as it turned out, she was a welcome distraction for Liz in the first few hours. Now, as the contractions and pain got worse, it was good Agnes was heading out.
"Give Liz our love and we will be waiting for the phone call at your house," Robby said as Ressler handed him their spare set of keys.
"Thanks," Ressler smiled before he walked over to his mom and gave her a hug, then hugged Agnes before turning around and going back into labour and delivery.
"Ready to go eat ice cream, stay up late watching scary movies and order pizza?" Robby asked Agnes as he clapped his hands together.
Agnes looked at her grandmother, unsure if this was actually happening.
"Let's get a pizza," Lisa Ressler smiled and laughed. "Your uncle is a bad influence, and you need to get a good sleep before you meet your baby brother or sister tomorrow."
Agnes laughed and when Robby turned and crouched down with his back to her, she jumped on his back, and he piggybacked her out to his car with his mom chatting about a sign they could make for when mom and dad bring the baby home.
The end.
