Chapter Two: Her First Day
~Marinette~
Marinette hurries out the door of the bakery and runs across the street towards the nearby park. Today is her first day as an intern. It's been two days since she met with the stoic designer. Two days since she agreed to intern under him. It's been a rather peaceful two days, no akumas, no big homework assignments, and no Lila. Marinette is sure that Lila used Kagami's akumatization as an excuse to miss the rest of the week of school. She only showed up the day after the akuma attack to try to latch onto Adrien again. She probably stayed home because he didn't go along with what she wanted.
Marinette takes a deep breath as she makes it to the photoshoot. She checks the time on her phone. Good. I made it on time. She thinks to herself.
Marinette steals her nerves as she walks over to the people in charge. She hesitates as they seem to be having a conversation, but they notice her coming and smile wide.
"Ah, you must be our new intern. Marinette, correct?" A man with short, dark red hair says.
Marinette smiles, recognizing the man as Adrien's primary photographer, "That's me. Today's my first day."
He smiles at her, "Ah, first days. I remember when I first started working for Mr. Agreste. Adrien was just a toddler then. He always has been made for the camera. My name is Vincent. You'll be working close to me today. Mr. Agreste expressed that he wants you to get the full range of the fashion world, so you'll be helping me capture pictures of Adrien."
Marinette smiles wide, "I'm not much of a photographer, but I'm happy to help you with whatever you need. I'll do my best!"
Vincent smiles, "That's what I want to hear! Let's get set up. Adrien will be here soon, and we like to have everything ready by the time he arrives so that we can get right to taking the pictures."
Marinette smiles as she helps set up. She follows Vincent's instructions and meets a few of the other people working on the photoshoot. Soon they are done getting ready and Adrien shows up with his bodyguard.
He quickly makes his way to Marinette, "Marinette! I'm so happy you're here!" He exclaims.
Marinette blushes, "H-hi Adrien. I'm here to happy be. I mean! I'm happy to be here!"
Adrien smiles at her, "What will you be doing today? Have they told you yet?"
Vincent answers for her, "Marinette will be helping me today. You should go ahead and get ready so we can start. We can't waste this beautiful sunshine!"
Adrien smiles at his photographer, "You're right. I'll go get ready." He turns to Marinette, "I'll see you in a little bit, Marinette."
Marinette watches him leave and smiles softly to herself.
Vincent smiles at her, "I thought you seemed familiar to me. I almost had you join Adrien on a photoshoot before, correct?"
Marinette smiles nervously, "Yes, but the girl I was babysitting, Manon, made a much better model than I would have."
Vincent smiles, "She was exactly what we needed that day, but I think you will be a great asset to us as a model as well. You and Adrien make a nice match."
Marinette blushes profusely as Vincent leaves her with those words to fiddle with his camera. Marinette follows behind him and watches as he teaches her about the different settings and the ones he will primarily use. She absorbs as much information as she can before Adrien returns from getting ready.
"Ready to begin, Adrien?" Vincent asks.
"Ready!" Adrien responds as he makes a model pose.
Marinette watches intently as Vincent encourages Adrien to show different emotions and moves around to take his photo. Adrien changes his poses and expressions like a pro and Vincent captures each and every one. Marinette is so entranced by the whole thing that she doesn't notice the time pass.
She's brought back to the present when Vincent addresses her, "Marinette, I'd like to test your photo chemistry with Adrien. You'll be modeling with him on occasion and we were able to finish the photoshoot early, so we have some extra time to practice with you."
"O-oh, okay." She responds, "What do I do?"
Adrien smiles and takes her hand, "Just follow my lead, Marinette, we'll go through the poses together, slowly. We finished an hour early, so we have plenty of time."
Marinette blushes and nods her head.
"Okay, let's start easy you two. Stand back to back with only your shoulders touching. I want you to lean on one another, but just a little bit. Good, now both of you turn just your heads to the camera and look at me. Marinette, I want you to cross your arms and hold them loosely against you. Adrien, I want you to put your left hand in your hair like you're ruffling it up. Good." Vincent instructs as he captures their photos.
"Alright, let's do another one. Marinette, stay just as you are, but let your hands dangle at your sides. Adrien, I want you to turn towards Marinette and wrap your arms around her. Just give her a loose hug. Marinette, lean back on Adrien and use him to support your weight. Loosen your legs and relax. Good. Adrien, I want you to nuzzle into her neck. Don't look at the camera. Marinette, you keep looking at me. Now place one hand on Adrien's arm wrapped around you and place the other loosely in his hair. That's perfecto. You're a natural, Marinette." Vincent says.
Marinette's heart is beating a mile a minute. This pose will be the death of her. Adrien's lips are practically kissing her neck and his hair is so soft.
"You're doing great." Adrien whispers to her as he holds her against his chest.
Marinette smiles at him, feeling a bit more confident with herself.
Vincent smiles at the teens, "let's continue with this pose but make a few changes, Marinette, I want you to turn your head to look at Adrien. Both of you look into each other's eyes. That's it. Adrien, hold her closer, like you never want to let her go. Perfecto!"
Marinette stares into the beautiful green eyes in front of her. Her cheeks are flushed and her nerves are skyrocketing. They're so close to one another. Adrien stares back at her with an intensity that makes her weak in the knees. His arms tighten around her and he changes the position without guidance from Vincent. One hand moves to her shoulder and he slowly guides her to look at him. His other hand moves to her face and lightly cups her cheek. Marinette's hands move on their own to clutch at his shirt as they stare into each other's eyes. She vaguely hears Vincent's encouragement of their new pose as Adrien leans forward and rests his forehead on hers. Her breath catches and her heart skips a beat, but still, they continue to stare into each other's eyes. Emerald green and vibrant bluebell.
They're lost in their own world until Vincent's voice registers once again, "Alright! I think that's enough for today. You both did wonderful! Marinette, you are a true natural. You and Adrien will be a modeling match made in heaven!"
Marinette takes a deep breath and steps away from Adrien. He lets her go with a deep breath of his own.
"Wow, Marinette. You really are a natural. We only did a few poses, but you rocked them all. I've never worked with someone that I flowed with so easily." Adrien compliments.
Marinette smiles at his praise, "Adrien, you thank. I mean… Thank you, Adrien. I wouldn't have been able to do all of that without you."
Adrien smiles, "I'm happy to have helped, Marinette, but I'm sure you would've done fine on your own. I've never had that much fun modeling. It was great working with you. You always know how to brighten up my day."
Marinette nods her head in thanks as Vincent returns to speak with her once again, "Miss Marinette! You were simply amazing! You were a huge help today, both before and after the photoshoot. Let's get all this stuff packed up and then you can go home. I'll let Mr. Agreste know what an amazing job you did here today. If you can design half as good as you modeled for me today, then I think you'll have a lot of success in this industry."
Marinette's confidence grows as she listens to his praise, coupled with Adrien's praise, she feels as if she can walk on water. Marinette just can't get rid of the smile on her face as she helps take down the set. She says goodbye to Adrien as his bodyguard takes him back home, apparently, Gabriel never lets him help with the cleanup. Too afraid he'll get injured or miss another one of his activities due to the time it takes to set up and tear down a set.
Marinette is walking on clouds by the time she makes it home. This might just be one of the best days of her life.
