Sensing Magic

Lucy stared at the green spell that travelled from the Death Eater to her in shock. She was too fixed on keeping Harry safe to bring herself into safety. However, her shock only intensified, when Harry jumped in front of her, transforming into a phoenix as he did so, saving her from the deadly curse just in time.
'Harry!' she thought in shock. He was not dead. That she knew, because she could still sense him, just when a tiny baby's head appeared out of the pile of ice in front of her.
'Harry!' she thought to him, as she grabbed the naked baby phoenix into her snout.

"No!" Harry screamed and jumped in front of his familiar, summoning his entire magic to transform into his phoenix form, which he managed, just before the green spell hit. An instant later, he could only feel cold.
"Harry!"
"What happened?"
"Where is he?"
Suddenly, Lucy picked him up from where he was lying on the ground. She took him into her snout and gently nudged Ginny.
"Is that Harry?" Ginny looked from the tiny phoenix baby to the canine, who nodded and gently licked him over and over.
'Feels warm,' he thought, craving the warmth of her tongue on his naked skin.
"He must be cold." Harry recognised Hermione's voice, before he felt himself being wrapped into what seemed to be a warm shawl.
'Teddy, can you take me home? So cold.'
"Ginny, please give him to me. He asked me to take him home, and I'm faster, as I can just pop us."
An instant later, Harry felt himself being handed over and felt the distinct sensation of Teddy's popping. 'Thank Merlin, he took Lulu with us,' he thought, as he felt the magic of his family's living room.
'Mum,' he thought to his mother, seeing that she was sitting on the sofa together with Luna, while Felix was jumping up and down in clear excitement, before he seemed to notice Teddy.

Teddy uncertainly hovered from one foot to the other. "Professor?"
"Teddy and Lucy? Where is Harry?" Regina cast him a questioning look.
"Harry managed the transformation into a phoenix." Luna smiled broadly. "Why is he a baby though?"
Teddy quickly handed the phoenix baby that obviously had been too impatient to remain between the warm fabric he had been wrapped into to Regina.
"When we came out of the Three Broomsticks, it happened, but I am not sure what exactly happened. Harry, do you know?"
Harry relaxed under Regina's soft touch. 'I could sense Lucius Malfoy nearby, but before I could see where he was, I saw and felt the killing curse head towards Lucy. So, I transformed and jumped in front of her. As a phoenix, I did not die. I'm so cold though.'
"My poor child," Regina cooed, before she called Cicero.
Teddy smiled, when his father arrived an instant later. Regina began to explain urgently. "Harry managed to become a baby phoenix. Could you perhaps ask Twinkle how he cares for Fawkes after a burning day? He must know what to do. Harry tells me he's cold."
"Of course." Cicero gave Teddy a questioning look, before he popped away without further ado.

When Severus returned from Hogsmeade and heard about their son being a baby phoenix after taking a killing curse for Lucy, Severus sat next to Lucy on the sofa, where she was taking turns with Fawkes covering the naked phoenix with their wings and fur.
"Harry, can you tell me what happened?" His voice was laced with utmost concern.
'Hi Dad. Don't worry, I'm fine,' he reassured his father, before he repeated what he had already told Regina a few hours ago.
"Are you sure that it was Lucius Malfoy?"
'Yes, it was his magical signature.'
"Well, he could not kill you, as he has sworn me a wizard's oath to not harm you, so he chose Lucy instead. I'm going to talk to the Aurors."
Harry felt more than heard how Severus leaned into the fireplace.

A short while later, he could sense his unofficial godfather's presence.
"What happened?" the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement enquired.
Harry listened, gratefully, how his father explained everything to Sirius. "The problem is that he probably used a spare wand to save his own from any kind of inspection. Would it perhaps be possible to interrogate him under Veritaserum? I have a batch of the antidote to the antidote at hand."
Sirius chuckled. "We call it the inquisition serum, and yes, please, we've almost used up everything you provided before. I'll talk to Meli, but I'm sure that she'll agree to interrogate him in this case."
Do you even have to ask, considering that you're the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement?" Harry inwardly grinned, as he imagined how his father probably quirked an eyebrow at Sirius.
"Well, the minister is still my boss. Please give me the batch and I'll be on my way."
'Oh, I really hope they'll get to send Malfoy to Azkaban,' Harry thought, before he drifted off to sleep.

During the following three weeks, Fawkes and Lucy gently raised Baby Harry with the help of Misty and Cicero. Instead of using a phoenix perch like Fawkes' that Twinkle had recommended for the baby phoenix, they cuddled together on the sofa in the living room. 'Probably on Harry's request, as he wanted to cuddle with Lucy as well,' Regina thought in amusement. It took a week for the baby to spike first feathers.
One day, when Regina was correcting the third-years' homework, Lucy addressed her with a series of small yowls, and when Regina looked over and the canine carefully stepped off the two-week-old phoenix baby, she realised that a second phoenix was sitting next to it. It was about the same size; however, was spiking green feathers, where Harry had blue ones.
"Where does the second phoenix baby come from?" she asked in bewilderment, when the green phoenix let out a couple of trills in apparent excitement.
"Harry?"
Harry made a sound resembling a chuckle.
