ACT 1: CHAPTER 1
A NEW BEGINNING
Cold. That was how he felt right now. His eyes closed, his life slipping by the second. Madara Uchiha knew this feeling from before, but this time he did not have a plan to come back. He had accepted that this was it, his death. Everything he had in this life, dreams, ambitions, family, everything was dead, but he found solace in the knowledge that he at least could make peace with his one friend, Hashirama.
Darkness crept around him, embracing him in its unforgiving cold. "Yes... this is my end." Madara thought and allowed this sensation to take him. However, he was not prepared for what would come next.
As the darkness swallowed him, despite being aware that he was dying, the feeling that he could 'sense' his surroundings never faded. "Is this... how one goes into the Afterlife?" He asked himself, but after a while, his sensation only grew. It was then that he was sure of the conclusion. "No... not the Afterlife. I am waking up... does that mean I am not dead after all?"
Slowly, his consciousness came back to him and he opened his eyes, seeing a very unfamiliar kind of ceiling. Right away he could tell that it looked like he was within the inside of a tree re-modeled to serve as a home.
"Good, finally awake" An elderly, female voice spoke, the tone indicating that she was clearly not in a joyful mood. "If you can get up, then you can get dressed and get out!" She followed up right away, the already clearly audible irritation in her voice only growing.
Madara was still coming to his senses, so he was silent, turning his head while laid down, observing closely and taking in every bit of knowledge his eyes could catch up on. "My sight does not deceive me. I really am alive... but where am I?" He thought before turning his head to his left and saw the source of the voice. An elderly woman with pink hair which was rather short, tied together to a bun held together by what appeared to be a needle that did not stick out too far from either side of her head, not giving itself away as some form of visual decor.
The woman let out a long sigh and placed her hands on her hips. "What? Lost your tongue?"
Madara very slowly pushed himself up very slowly, noticing that he was covered by a blanket. He was almost naked, save for his undergarments. The first thing he noticed right away was that Hashirama's face on his left chestside was gone, his torso was fully normal, his well built, muscular stature restored without a literal face to creep the sight out. "Weird..." he concluded before he turned to the woman again and opened his mouth to speak, noticing that his words did not come out of his mouth quite yet and he instead felt a stinging, sore sensation. Immediately, he moved his hands up and signed that he wanted to drink, suspecting that his throat was simply dry. After the elderly pinkette delivered, while looking once again more annoyed, Madara attempted to speak again. "Where... am I? I do not recognize anything here... and... I was sure that I was dead."
"You were not dead by a longshot when I found you. Injured, yes, but you'd have lived." The elderly woman responded. "We are in a secluded region near the town of Magnolia, if that's what you mean by 'where'." She added, crossing her arms over her chest. "Looks to me that you have recovered thought, despite being out for almost 2 days straight."
"I've been out for 2 days?" Madara thought again, glancing down at his hands, seeing that they looked the same as he remembered them. He continued to inspect his body bit by bit, feeling up his face to get an idea of his facial structure. No, there was no denying it no matter how hard he tried, he was truly alive. However, once he settled his own worried, he turned his attention to what she said. "Magnolia? I know of no such location..."
"Not from around here, then?" The elderly woman continued, rubbing her temples in frustration with one hand before crossing them again. "Well, that's not really my issue. Now get dressed and get out, you're healed from what I can tell and I see nothing that should warrant another medical examination."
Madara narrowed his eyes and glanced at the woman again before looking back to his own hands. "A different age maybe? Or a different land? Maybe even a different world... I see, so I was not revived again. But... I was not reincarnated either. I would have sensed that, and if I had been reborn anew, I would have definetly lead an entire life up until this point. So... what is this condition I am in?" He questioned, analyzing the situation as deeply and thoroughly as he possibly could. "Eliminate all that is impossible... not reincarnated, not reborn, not revived. Or maybe revived, but with my body intact like this? Definetly not related to time, so not a different age. The name of this town... 'Magnolia' rings no bells at all, so it is definetly not something within the Elemental Nations. Different land or different world, it is. But different land would require my body to be physically moved, which ties itself together with time. Even if it was just a few days, it would have suffered decay. Reviving a decayed body would have brought upon consequences that this woman would have informed me of, as she appears to be someone with medical expertise. The only conclusion, the only thing that can be possible, then, is that I was not revived. This is a new life I was given, within a different world. A different universe entirely..."
The elderly woman let out a deep, annoyed sigh before she reached for Madara's clothing, which were the same ones as he was known for, being a pair of black pants and a simple shirt that he wore beneath his red plated armor, his gloves and his sandals. "I washed these for you, by the way. They were absolutely stained in blood."
Madara just nodded slowly, still processing his conclusion while he began to dress himself while getting up from the bed. He noticed that his weapons were not with him. No Scythe and no Gunbai. "Not too big of a deal, but still a shame. I liked that Gunbai." He thought to himself. His attention returned once more to the woman. "Since this is a different land, I must assume that mine is a different life. I am in a world unfamiliar, where my name does not even exist. I must aquaint myself with my surroundings but also ensure whether or not I have my abilities and which ones. First things first..." He thought, then opened his mouth. "It appears I owe you my life, if what you told me is true. I have no recalling of how I got wounded, or here. I do know who I am, where I come from and such, so it is not memory loss, or only short-term" he lied, making a plausible explanation for her without giving away anything beyond the absolute minimal necessary. "But even if I had these memories, I am still in unfamiliar territory. Its customs, its map, its currency and culture. I know nothing. Could I bother you to ask me where I might find a sufficient start?" He questioned her, his tone sounding controlled and somewhat indifferent.
"Tch..." The woman scoffed before she nodded. "Magnolia is to the east of here. Roughly 3 kilometers away, or about a 45 minute footwalk at a calm pace. It is a big town with a church at its center and a lake at its northern outskirts where Fairy Tail resides."
"Fairy Tail?"
"Magnolia's Guild" The woman answered. "If you need a job, you look like you can fight somewhat, so maybe a Guild would be a good start."
Madara nodded slowly and walked towards the door of her tree-house to walk out, stopping as he opened said door and turned to her with a side-glance. "I owe you my thanks, but I would like to know your name before my leave."
The woman, once more seemingly getting more annoyed, just scoffed. "Porlyusica. Now get lost!"
Madara just closed the door behind him and began to walk eastward, having decrypted which direction east was after observing the sun's position, analyzing the color of the sky, running a rough guess of the temperature and the season by scanning the forest's status and managed to conclude that it was right around noon, meaning the Sun was facing south, so east was to the right of it. And as he walked, he decided that he would make a run-through of his Abilities to see which ones he does and does not have, assuming he does have any.
ONE HOUR LATER
Madara finally arrived at the gates before Magnolia, scanning the structure thoroughly and making notes of the architecture and the design-aspects of the city, as it only further underlined his already confirmed suspicion that this was foreign lands.
In the time he walked to the city, he took it a bit slowed while he was testing his Abilities. So far, he concluded that he has:
- Access to the Jutsus of all 5 Elements; His Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and Susano'o; Sensory Abilities and his complete Taijutsu Muscle-memory intact.
What he did NOT have were the Rinnegan and its powers; none of his Summons, even the weapons; Hashirama's cells in his body, erasing the face but also meaning no passive regeneration and no Wood Style.
In other words, he was an unchanged, full-blooded Uchiha without any modifications. But he was also able to confirm that he was still at the height of his powers. His strength was as it were during the final fight with Hashirama, where he 'died'.
"However..." He thought as he had run into a few... complicated observations. His 'Chakra' felt different than it usually did. Instead of being a blood-like set of streams running through the body, it was more akin to a sensation that engulfed every single one of his cells. Secondly, he did not need any of his handsigns to use any of his Jutsu, which made it a challenge as he was so used to handsigns that it's second nature, and unlearning that was going to take some time and getting used to. Nothing difficult, merely frustrating, thought. However, combining both issues was where trouble began. It meant that his Jutsu-use was slowed down, and he had to re-learn how to get a grip of his Chakra from scratch. "As if this body had been made anew, cell by cell. It is my body, yet it is not..."
While he thought about his re-discovery of his powers and how he would best approach re-learning everything, he slowly managed to walk his way towards the Guild. And as it appeared, he had found himself at quite the bad timing, because what he saw before him was the Guildhouse, which had 'FAIRY TAIL' written big over its entrance, but it was badly damaged. Large, metallic cylinders were poking through the ceiling, puncturing the building across various lengths. The building held strong, not collapsing from the damage, but it was clear that the interior was worse off than the exterior.
Then he saw a crowd surrounding a few people who stood out somewhat. Those people, for the most part, seemed to be quite angry, except for one slightly older, very short-statured male who acted unphased and unbothered, which only seemed to rile up some of the younger ones further. One in particular was very vocal about his distress. Pink hair, highly energetic and expressionate and from the looks of it, someone who takes even the smallest insult towards his Guild serious.
"Heh... reminds me a bit of Naruto... a loud-mouthed fool who wears his heart on his sleeve while keeping his arm stretched out. But, if he is like that, it must mean he is also very earnest and tries hard. A hard-worker." He analyzed silently as he kept approaching the group. "It appears I have arrived at a bad time..." he voiced indifferently, making everyone stop in their tracks slightly.
While most just continued to chatter amongst themselves as Mira was explaining the reason for Makarov's seeming indifference, said Guildmaster turned towards Madara, eyed him sharply for a second and chuckled. "And what can we do for you?"
Madara decided to be up-front about his current situation. "I am not from around here. These lands are foreign to me, but I was advised that the best way to get accusted to my surroundings would be to work for a Guild. I was recommended to seek out Fairy Tail." The black-haired Shinobi answered before crossing his arms. "Though I must say, it appears that you are in the middle of a war, so I should probably come by a bit later."
"Oh, there is no need for that!" Makarov spoke somewhat energetically. "You can join us right now. We will re-build the guildhouse. You can ask Mirajane to get your guildmark and inform yourself about the structure of this country and its rules!" He explained before he turned towards the guildhouse again and just went inside.
Madara glanced around slightly while a white-haired, admittedly very beautiful young woman approached him. She was quite a bit shorter than he was, but she wore her head high. "Welcome to Fairy Tail. I am Mirajane, I work as the guild's receptionist and bartender. I will be your guide for any questions you might have." She introduced herself, her tone being very friendly and welcoming.
"Just a bartender?" Madara thought while slightly narrowing his eyes. "Your strength is not to be sneezed at compared to the others. You do not fool my senses." He kept thinking before he turned to the others, who by now had calmed down themselves and just went ahead with their usual antics, which were a guild-brawl started by Natsu being cantankerous with Gray, which ended up dragging the others into it one by one. Once inside the Guildhouse, while Mirajane went behind the barcounter to get out a magic stamp for the guild logo, Madara just boredly glanced around to get a feel of his surroundings and to look at those young fools fighting with each others. "Is it always so noisy here?"
Mirajane just hummed in approval and nodded her head. "Fairy Tail is a place where our members are very lively and expressionate." She responded before lifting the stamp. "Now, in what color would you like the guild logo and where on your body?"
Madara thought about it for a good moment before he reached for the hemm of his shirt and slowly lifted it up along with his chestplate until his pecs were visible. "In a deep shade of red, on the right of my chest."
Mirajane then slowly placed the surface of the stamp on Madara's chest and the logo was thus imprinted on him, which he followed up on by lowering his shirt again. "Now, I hear that you are also not from around here. Would you like to introduce yourself? And do you have any immediate questions?"
Madara slowly nodded. "My name is Madara Uchiha. I have a large number of questions, but I will forward the most pressing first-"
"HEY NEW GUY, FIGHT ME!" Natsu roared with vigor as he leapt towards Madara, his right fist engulfed into flames, ready to strike him down.
Madara just scoffed boredly, not moving a muscle while the ribcage of his Susanoo formed, taking the hit without flinching. Afterwards, the right arm of Susanoo grew, but only in the form of bones, gripped Natsu and slamdunked him into the ground with enough force to damage the ground with a visible crater. While everyone else was processing the sight, seeing Natsu knocked out so easily and without any issues, Madara returned his attention to Mirajane. "What is the currency of this land and what is its current value for average, frequent purchases like a meal or a house?"
Mirajane was happy to answer, leaning against the barcounter for a bit. "The currency is called Jewel and it is one usually aquired in larger numbers. The cheapest consumable, a glass of water, has an average price of around 150 Jewel. Average monthly rent for an average Apartment prices around 80'000 to 150'000 Jewel a month."
"I see." Madara simply answered, placing his right hand on his chin as he sunk into thought once more before he went with his next question. "Since this is a Guild, I assume we take jobs of various nature which are our income. Since I am new here, I will need to take on some with a higher reward to establish an immediate capital. Where and how do I aquire these quests?"
Mirajane just pointed to her left, signing at a clearly visible wooden board which had many different pieces of paper pinned on it. "There are the requests. Difficulties rank from D to SSS. Thought S rank quests and above can only be taken by S rank guild members, so the highest difficulty you may choose is A rank quests."
Madara understood and got up from his seat, turning towards everyone for a moment before he bee-lined it to the board, taking a look at the quests there. He spotted 3 A-rank quests that paid around 400'000 Jewel each, as all 3 were of the same nature. Bandits harassing a town and the town mayor sending a request for those bandits to be dealt with. Once he took the three quest papers, he approached Mirajane again. "The last thing I will need is a functional map. Preferably one that has every city, town and village in it so I can get as used to this new land as I can."
Mirajane was happy to help, reaching under the barcounter to take out a scrolled up A-3 sized piece of paper which had the map of all of Fiore on it down to the smallest detail.
"I will be back soon" Madara said before he walked out of the damaged guildhouse without another word, embarking on to take 3 quests at the same time.
After Madara was gone, Mirajane's happy expression dropped as Erza joined her at the barcounter. "Erza... he is seriously powerful."
The redheaded Titania nodded in response. "Indeed... I've never before met a man so strong, and I have witnessed Master Makarov at full power."
Makarov, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere while sitting on the barcounter right next to the two girls, just chuckled slightly. "It would appear that things are about to get really interesting with our new member. Someone as strong as him is bound to invite challenge" He began, but then his face turned serious. "But I can only hope that these challenges will not seek to harm my beloved children."
Erza's eyes went for the exit of the guild-home and she stared after Madara. "I should watch out for him... something about him tells me to be wary."
