Tales Not

The boy's hand reaches for the book on the top shelf, catches on the top of the leathery old spine, but the book swings like a hinge instead of coming free from its brethren. There's the sudden, loud grinding of creaky gears in the need of an oiling- and it's coming from the bookcase! He peers down at it in a state of near-fear and he just about topples off the top of the stepladder he perches on at the sight that his eyes behold.

The bookcase is opening, pulling back into the wall and sliding into the hollow back of the bookshelves beside it, like one of those doors in sci-fi movies that his older brother always watched- almost like the doors to the labyrinth in The Maze Runner.

With an excited vigor, he scrambles back down the stepladder, skipping the last couple of footholds without missing a beat. He lets his sneakers hit the dark wooden floor with a smack as he scampers to stand before what he expects to be a passageway- Why are there trees?

Beyond the hidden door is not a dark room or hall, but a glistening white forest, one that he's only seen in dreams, one that he only has a name for from the tallest of tales.

This isn't a secret tunnel, it's a secret world!

It's Narnia.
