I spent about two months experimenting before learning that the wolf pack wanted to meet with me. There was apparently an issue due to me being a vampire that lived nearby and not being a part of the treaty. Bella had met with Jacob due to him confronting Edward over Bella being with him and Bella ended up telling Jacob about me and explained about how I was still normal even after turning and how she would still be her after the change as well. That didn't go over well at all.
I just snorted at Edward over the phone and told him that if the wolves wanted to meet me they should come and ask to meet me themselves like civilized people. I then hung up and went back to my experiments. I ignored the ringing for the rest of the day.
A week later a couple of wolves showed up outside my house and the one in front shifted into a tall and well muscled guy.
"Hello Alex Hale. My name is Sam Uley, this is Jacob Black and Leah Clearwater. We are here to discuss the treaty with you since you have been avoiding meeting with us."
"I see." I said with a bored look that caused Jacob to let out low growls.
"Can I read this treaty of yours, I won't sign anything that I haven't read beforehand and hashed out the details so that they are beneficial to both parties. It wouldn't be right to sign this treaty only for it to turn out that I sold myself into eternal slavery or some crap like that."
Sam grimaced and brought forth a copy of the treaty from his bag. He was still naked, but I figured it was because he felt he might need to shift at a seconds notice.
Jacob took that moment to change back into a human and glared at me. "Why should we even add you into the treaty, as far as I'm concerned we should just kill you and be done with it. One less leech in the world."
"Because Jacob, if I wanted to I could very easily slaughter everyone in your tribe including the wolves in a second and there isn't a thing you could do to stop me. The only reason I am even considering a treaty with your bigoted tribe is because I respect Carlisle and don't want to make Bella Swan cry when she finds out I slaughtered all of her shape shifter friends. I'm also surprised to learn that it isn't that a certain part of you doesn't transform when you shift but that it actually did grow with the transformation. Rather underwhelming wouldn't you say?" I said with a smirk while looking at his rather unimpressive size.
"What?" Jacob all but barked out before shifting and pouncing at me.
I paused time and went inside to get my clippers and a razor. I shaved Jacob completely hairless and then used a permanent marker to write I love penis all over him. I then used a metal chain to tie him up to a tree before going back to my chair and resuming time.
I opened the document as Jacob let out a choking sound as the chain pulled tight. Both Sam and Leah had their mouths drop open at the sight of Jacob as he lay on the ground in pain from the whiplash.
"So I don't see a single benefit to this treaty." I said as I set the paper down on the table next to me after giving it a quick read.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked angrily.
"So the basics of this treaty is that the Cullens can't drink from or transform any humans, they can't come onto your lands, and they can't tell people about you. Meanwhile your people won't attack the Cullens or go on their land and you won't tell people about them. That about sum it up?" I said with a raised brow.
"Uh, yeah." Sam said with a nod.
"So this treaty is basically stupid." I sighed out. "If you told about the Cullens being vampires you would somehow need to prove it and also prove how you know, which would only out yourselves as shape shifters. So that is basically avoiding mutual destruction. That can be kept since nobody wants to be outed, though Jacob over there already outed the Cullens by telling Bella about them which broke the treaty. Then there is even books of your tribes legends that talk about the cold ones which all but describe the Cullens which is also borderline breaking the treaty."
Jacob let out a whimper and ducked his head down in shame while Sam also looked a little uncomfortable.
"The second point is that Carlisle has only ever changed people if they were on the verge of death, which while your tribe may view this as the same as death, pretty much everyone else in the world sees it as a second chance at life. Not to mention that when a vampire is on the hunt it is almost impossible for them to stop themselves. They would feed from humans or animals all the same and it would be an unconscious act. After they were done they might be horrified, but by then it would be to late. However it would be an accident no different than with your shifting when any of you get too angry. Or will you try to tell me that none of your pack has hurt anyone on accident because of shifting in a bout of anger."
Sam once again looked very uncomfortable while both Leah and Jacob looked at Sam with a look of pity.
"The last point of staying out of the others lands is beyond stupid. If your pack was hunting down a vampire who went on a murder spree in La Push would you just stop at the border because of the treaty? Of course not, your pack would go after that murdering SOB to the gates of hell. However that would once again break the treaty."
"While Carlisle is so kind as to forgive every transgression and slight your tribe throws at him such as calling him and his family blood suckers and leeches I am not so nice as to let people continue to break their word and spit in my face. If I were to do the things that you all do to the Cullens to your tribe instead it would very quickly reach the point of war."
"Your tribe likes to think that they are always in the right, but you shifters are meant to protect your tribe against all threats both internal and external and does not include people outside of your tribe. The shifters in your tribe is focused completely on the Cullens when they aren't even doing anything and you lot aren't even questioning whether or not it is wrong to do so. How can you be protectors when you don't know the difference between right and wrong and who is ally and enemy."
"This treaty was made in such a way that it didn't cover emergency situations or extenuating circumstances and most certainly didn't take into account the effects of changes over time. It also favors your tribe to an absurd degree. The Cullens have to move every decade or so to avoid drawing suspicion from people and can only return after almost a century, during this time your tribe can have free range of the whole area since the Cullens wouldn't be able to claim you broke the treaty if they aren't there to find you doing so. The only part of this treaty I agree with is the part where both groups don't tell outsiders about each other."
"I see no reason to sign or even agree to something so ridiculous as this treaty. If you want me to sign a treaty you would need to at least make it reasonable."
I then walked over to Sam and handed it back to him while all of them had sheepish looks on their faces as if they were kids who had just been scolded for sneaking cookies.
"Well we'll get going then." Sam said after rubbing the back of his head and putting the paper back in his bag.
"Jacob, you can get out of that chain by shifting back to human." I told him. He nodded before shifting back into a human and moving out of the chain before shifting back into a wolf.
Sam nodded to me before shifting and the three of them all left quickly.
I went back inside and went back to my experiments. I had almost reached the point where I could make flavored blood. Just imagining it made my thirst kick in and I had to go hunt a zebra. Why a zebra, because I never had one before and it seemed interesting.
A week later Sam returned to my house with Leah and a new wolf.
"Hello Alex." Sam called out to me as I sat on my deck whittling a stick. I find it to be pretty calming.
"Hello Sam." I greeted back without looking up. There was a soft growl from the new wolf which quickly stopped when I said. "If you keep growling at me I'll give you the same haircut I gave Jacob." I got a whine in return. Apparently Jacobs new haircut wasn't very popular.
"The elders have decided to call for a meeting with the Cullens and you to discuss rewriting the treaty." Sam said awkwardly. "The elders agreed with you that the treaty is outdated and should be rewritten to be more specific."
"Where would they like to meet and when?" I asked while carving another piece off of the stick.
"They would like to meet in an hour at the border of our lands and the Cullens."
"That is a rather large area, can you be more specific?" I asked as I continued carving.
"It will be at the point between La Push and Forks where the road crosses the river."
"Sure. I'll be there. Also here's a present." I said tossing my finished carving to Sam. It was a stick with pictures carved into it of realistic looking wolves running around it under a moon in a meadow. it was very detailed and was made perfectly. It would easily sell for a couple of grand if sold online.
Sam simply thanked me before leaving.
After I took care of everything that needed my immediate attention for that hour I then went to the meeting point and stood behind the Cullens without making a noise.
Carlisle was greeting the tribe elders and it took a bit before anyone noticed me.
"Holy crap Alex." Emmet jumped when he noticed me. "When the hell did you get behind me?"
"About three minutes ago." I said with a smile. " Though with my ability to freeze time I might simply always be there"
"That's a terrifying thought." Emmet shivered.
"Wait a second, your eyes are golden, not red. How long have you been in frozen time." Edward asked once he noticed.
"A decade. I went around the world and read all of the books in existence, I can also speak every language in the world." I chuckled.
"Really, anything interesting?" Emmet asked curiously.
"Ever wondered why George Washington had to get wooden teeth?" I grinned.
"Oh that sounds good." Emmet grinned back.
"Okay you two, lets focus on the treaty here." Carlisle scolded us.
"Sorry." We both said.
"Alex, can you come over here and help to make the treaty to be as equal and acceptable as possible?" Carlisle called out. "Since you pointed out the flaws in the original treaty I assumed you would have an idea for a new treaty."
"Sure, I can do that." I nodded to him before walking over to where the tribe elders and Carlisle were standing.
"I already figured we might need a new one and wrote one up in my free time." This caused the elders to frown.
"Read it before you judge, also please try to reign in the open bigotry." I said before handing each of them a copy of the treaty I had made while they scowled at me.
1. The Cullen coven and the Quileute tribe will not speak to outsiders concerning one another in a negative or slanderous way unless necessary. This includes trying to convince other people to dislike or ostracize any individual of the opposite group. Nor will either group say anything that might lead others to find out about the supernatural origins of either group.
2. The Cullen coven and the Quileute tribe will not hinder any individuals businesses, or any other forms of income. Nor will either group hinder any member from either group of anything else ( i.e. healthcare, schooling, visitation, etc.) based on the reason of distrust or dislike between the two groups. Should a dispute occur because of hindering by either side it must be shown to have been because of proven reasons, such as if an individual has shown a recent history of violence or drug abuse. This does not count towards individuals hunting, protecting others, or accidents unless the accidents are a repeat occurrence. Hindering does not include competition done faithfully between one another. (i.e. if there are two mechanic shops run between the two groups and one group has a better mechanic it is not hindering if the better mechanic takes the business.)
3. The Cullen coven and the Quileute tribe will not pass down false or bigoted beliefs to others without having been a witness of what they are saying concerning the individual or group in question. Any individual doing so will have their tongue removed and burned in order to stop anyone from spreading lies and hatred against one another and causing unnecessary conflict. This also includes lumping a species together. (i.e. saying that all canines lick their junk and have short attention spans or saying that all vampires lose control around blood and sleep in coffins.)
4. The Cullen coven and the Quileute tribe will set out specific area borders that will denote the area to be used by the Cullen coven during their time living in this area and will allow the Quileute tribe to enter onto those lands to patrol when the Cullen coven are not in the area. The border may be crossed upon invitation or in the event of an emergency situation. This includes saving lives, escape, or hunting down enemies. In the event that a member of either group is found on the other groups land they may be questioned and observed but will not be attacked unless it becomes necessary. Should it be found that they are hunting an enemy or in need of assistance, help must be provided if requested. The city of Forks is considered a neutral area and can not be claimed by either group.
5. The Cullen coven will not knowingly/willingly feed from any member of the Quileute tribe nor of the townsfolk within the city of Forks. They will not knowingly put themselves in a situation where they become incapable of coherent thought, such as self starvation, where they will feed upon either aforementioned group. They will not change any individual without that individuals consent, or if that individual can not give consent, has made it known they are willing previously. This does not count in the event of an emergency situation such as a person in a life or death situation where the change is the only choice to save someone from certain death. In the event that an individual states that they did not wish to be changed after having been changed and they wish to be dead then the creator of that vampire will need to kill that individual immediately.
6. The Quileute tribe will not knowingly attack any vampires unless they kill, feed on, or change innocent humans or tribe members against their will. This does not include criminals such as rapists and murderers.
7. Both groups will do their best to make sure that any supernatural individuals or induvial in the know of the supernatural that enter into their territory will follow the treaty between the two groups to the best of their abilities within the bounds of the treaty. Should those individuals ignore or avoid learning of the treaty on purpose and they break the treaty they will no longer be protected by the treaty or by either group.
8. Both groups may defend themselves from the other in the event that a member of either group attacks the other. Should there be a death from either side it will be investigated by both groups. If it is found that the deceased was killed wrongfully then those involved in the death will be executed. If it is found that they were killed in self defense then no action will be taken.
9. Both groups will keep at minimum one copy of this treaty.
10. If there is any breaking of the treaty or claims of breaking the treaty a case will be called and overseen by a mixed group with equal numbers of vampires and shifters/elders with an appropriate punishment handed down if the individual is found guilty. Death is not an appropriate punishment for trespassing. If an individual is found to be innocent then the individual who accused them will receive the punishment for the crime they accused the other of.
11. In the event that any new rules need to be added or removed to the treaty a council can be called so that a new rule may be discussed and added or removed as needed. No rules may be added to the treaty if the rule is blatantly in favor of one group or another and must serve a specific purpose in keeping the harmony between both groups involved with the treaty.
The elders and Sam all looked at me in shock while Carlisle looked at me with pride.
"I wrote this as equally and as impartially as I could while thinking of most situations that may potentially come up." I told them with a grin.
"It is wonderfully done Alex." Carlisle said while grabbing my shoulder.
"I do admit that it is much better written and more detailed than the previous treaty. It is also nowhere near as unbalanced as I thought it would be." Billy said grudgingly with the other elders and Sam nodding.
"So I believe that it is safe to say that this works for a treaty and can be signed as is. Or is there anything that anyone has for a disagreement?" I asked while looking around.
"I do have some questions." Billy said while eyeing me. "This part about passing down beliefs. Does this include the our tribes folk stories, and what constitutes as being bigoted."
"It doesn't include your folk stories so long as they are kept as stories and not as an actual historical telling and as for what constitutes being bigoted. That would be things such as saying that all vampires are blood sucking monsters without human feeling or saying that all shifters are a bunch of hot headed lunatics who can't control themselves. Things like that. Basically lumping an entire group or species together as being the same. Everyone has their differences and judging a person based on another person is bigoted."
"I see, and this part about hindering?
"It means that the Cullens can't tell people not to use your businesses such as if your kid works as a mechanic or if they work at a bookstore in Port Angeles. It also goes for you as well, you can't tell people that they can't go to the hospital in Forks because Carlisle works there or force your kids to be home schooled so they don't attend school with the Cullens."
"I believe that was the only questions I had for now." Billy said with a nod.
"I have a question." Jacob said angrily. "What if someone is being tricked into thinking they want to be changed when they really don't?"
"I believe I know who you are referring to Jacob. While Edward might be willing to spare you the details I would very much like to explain what is going on here."
"Alex." Edward said with a pained voice.
"Edward, all you are doing is causing conflict where there should be none and dragging this out by trying to spare his feelings. It isn't right and he deserves to know." I told Edward while giving him a light glare.
I turned to Jacob who had a confused and relieved look and the others and explained. "Edward has done the vampire equivalent of imprinting on Bella." I heard everyone on the shifters side suck in a breath of air in shock. "While it is possible for you to be her friend and confidant Jacob, I am sure you already know what it is like when someone imprints. Even if one side fights it they will eventually succumb to it since they are a perfect match for each other. So please let Bella have her love in peace and be the friend she needs you to be. I'm sure we both know exactly how fragile Bella truly is after what happened."
"She also doesn't have a choice about getting changed since the vampire equivalent of the world government has ordered for her to either be changed or executed since she knows too much about vampires. I also was given the same ultimatum, though I had chosen to be changed a while before that all happened. Bella also has chosen what she wants, even if you don't necessarily agree with her choice Jacob."
Jacob looked crushed. He turned around and ran off into the woods before phasing mid jump and disappearing.
"I'm sorry about Jacob." Sam apologized.
"It is fine. Even I have had loves that ended up leaving me feeling crushed, some more literally than others, I understand that he needs time to think and grieve."
"Thank you." Billy said in a quiet voice. "Jacob will hopefully get past this and become a better and stronger man for it." I just nodded silently.
We all signed two copies of the treaty and went our separate ways after deciding on a map where the Cullen coven lands would be. I went back home to continue my experiments and whatever else took my fancy. I would receive a signed copy of the treaty after Carlisle made a few copies. Bella would also need to sign the treaties after her change, that would sure be something to see.
