I saw Edward standing outside with Jacob having just finished talking to him. Edward looked absolutely miserable and Jacob looked like he was a second away from punching him.
"So what's the prognosis doc?" I asked with a smile that caused both of them to turn to me in shock.
"Alex, did you know that Bella would become pregnant?" Edward asked angrily.
"Well what did you expect would happen if you had unprotected sex. With how many times you've gone through high school you must have taken health class at least once right?" I asked him with a smile.
Edward just covered his face with his hands and started moaning in frustration.
"He's a damn vampire while Bella's a human. They're two completely different species. That sort of thing shouldn't even be possible." Jacob growled out.
"So says a shape shifter whose whole pack is born from non humans having kids with humans." I mocked him. "Not to mention all of the other species out there who have been born from two different species mating. Have you never heard of a Liger or the countless mixed species of dogs out there."
"That is different, those are all just animals and shape shifters don't count since they are just humans with an ability to shift." Jacob argued.
"Shifters have 25 chromosomes while humans only have 24. You are most definitely not human Jacob. Vampires by the way have 26 chromosomes. However all of these groups are capable of mating with one another and having children. Unfortunately female vampires can't have children since their bodies are not able to produce nutrients to sustain a growing embryo nor are capable of the physical change necessary to have a child inside of them." Tanya had a sad look when I explained this to her.
"Don't worry honey, I love you just the way you are and I'll be happy so long as I have you by my side." I told Tanya while hugging her to me.
I turned back to Jacob and Edward who were listening to me and continued. "It is completely possible for a male vampire to have children with both human or shifter women. Though it is rather rare to have any hybrid children since most vampire men would kill the human woman during the process and it is unheard of for a shifter woman and a vampire man to have a child together."
"Of course, Leah is the first female shifter to have ever existed in our tribe's history. She wouldn't ever consider a vampire for a partner." Jacob said as if it was a ridiculous idea.
"I wouldn't be so sure Jacob, it is possible after all for a shifter to imprint on vampires as much as it is humans and vice versa."
"Oh god, that would be terrible." He said in shock which caused everyone else to chuckle.
"I just wanted to say to you both that hybrid vampires are a thing and that while the pregnancy and child birth are difficult it will be alright."
"So how many hybrid children do you know about." Edward asked me while Jacob looked interested.
"I know of at least three that I have met and one that I haven't. However they have all been born from a vampire who is an absolute monster. He would trick women into thinking he loved them and get them pregnant before abandoning them. He wouldn't tell them that he was a vampire and because of how hybrid births work the women would not receive any medical treatment or have any of the help needed to have a safe child birth. All of the mothers would die because this evil bastard would abandon them. I personally hate the bastard. I of course have already sent a very nice message to Aro about this vampires misdeeds and about what I have learned so far of hybrids. Hopefully I hear back from him soon."
"So, the thing inside of Bella isn't some unspeakable monstrosity that is going to kill her?" Edward asked with a look that begged me to give him an answer to his prayers.
"No it isn't a monstrosity, at least no more than most babies are." I chuckled while Tanya lightly smacked my arm. "It won't kill Bella so long as it's needs are properly met since it does draw it's needs from her and it does need to be birthed through a special process. I'll need to discuss the details with Carlisle here later. Just know that the baby growing inside of Bella isn't some monster or demon and is just an innocent child." I told them while giving Edwards shoulder a squeeze to comfort him.
"Thanks for all the information Alex, I need to go give the pack an update on what's going on." Jacob said before rushing off.
"I also need to thank you Alex. I haven't exactly been in a great state of mind ever since finding out Bella was pregnant and your words have helped to clear up a lot of my worries. Though I am a bit pissed that you would keep something like this from me."
"No problem Edward, but shouldn't you be inside pampering your wife?" I asked with a smirk. "She is probably quite lonely right now without her hubby there to do things like rub her feet and get her snacks. Maybe feed her grapes while she sits on a sofa and fanning her with a big leaf."
Tanya smacked me before whispering that maybe I should do that for her some time.
"You're right Alex, I need to go support my wife like a proper husband should instead of being out here moping around and stressing her out." Edward said with a smile before rushing inside.
You know, I wouldn't mind doing all that for you, but we would have to stop having sex and touching long enough to do that. I told Tanya while tightening my grip around her waist.
"You're right." Tanya said in fake shock. "Never mind then, I prefer sex over a leaf fan any day, and you certainly manage to make feeding me a rather great experience." She reached up with her hand and drew her fingers down my chest and rubbed her ass on my crotch which caused me to instantly become hard as she gazed at me with a smirk.
I returned fire by having my hands vibrate while holding them on her hips which caused her to let out a moan from the pleasure.
"Do not have sex in front of the house you two." Esme scolded from the front door with a smile.
"Sorry Esme." I called out after stopping my hands. Tanya let out a sound of discontent, but she turned back around and went off to talk with Esme after giving me a quick kiss.
I heard them start talking about clothes and tuned them out before heading inside myself to go find Carlisle.
"Alex." Carlisle greeted me while he moved around Bella who was currently sitting on the couch with a blanket and a book. Edward was sitting on a chair next to her brushing her hair while Carlisle did his examination. "I'm glad you joined us and I must apologize about interrupting your sexcapades with Tanya."
"Where in the world did you even learn that word Carlisle?" I asked with a smile at his use of the word sexcapades.
"Bella used the term earlier when she asked me if I could get you and Tanya to part long enough to ask what you knew about the situation." Carlisle said with a smirk. "I thought the term was rather apt seeing as you have been having sex pretty much all over the mountain range."
"Yeah, sorry about that." I said while rubbing the back of my head sheepishly.
"It's fine." Carlisle waved it off. "I already heard what you said to Edward, but could you give an explanation to Bella and answer her questions? I might have some of my own afterwards concerning the more medical related aspects."
"Sure." I agreed before pulling up a chair in front of Bella.
"Okay so to start with what is going on with you." I began before explaining everything I knew about hybrid pregnancies. Bella was happy to learn that the baby was going to be normal and was surprised to learn that it would have the same number of chromosomes as the shifters. She was a little sad that her child wouldn't be able to shift, but she was surprised to learn that the baby would be very intelligent even while inside of her and that it would understand words and basic concepts even before birth.
I explained how Bella would need to start drinking blood here shortly so that the baby could grow properly and nearly had to smack Edward when he started to get upset about it. Bella however was very adamant that she would eat dung if it meant her baby got what it needed. Bella and Edward were surprised to learn that there was a good chance that the child would have an ability due to them both having abilities as well. Carlisle was interested in the topic and we decided to spend some time studying abilities later.
I told Bella about how until the baby was capable of understanding properly that it shouldn't move it would probably kick out like a normal baby would, however because of it having vampire strength it would end up causing her some internal damage and could even cause her ribs to break. Edward did not like that in the least, but once I handed him a medical book I had written concerning human pregnancy he shut up for a while to read the book. He was traumatized after reading it.
I then explained to Carlisle and Bella that when her water broke the baby would probably panic since it would it wouldn't understand what was happening unless someone explained it to the baby beforehand. If the baby did panic it would probably end up lashing out and would probably cause internal damage ranging from breaking Bella's spine to destroying her organs. Everyone there had pale expressions on their faces, but Bella had a steely look in her eyes and everyone relaxed a bit when I explained that Bella probably wouldn't feel the damage to her organs since her spine would be broken and would thus cut off her sense of feeling for that area. Not much of a good news but better then nothing.
I explained to Carlisle that when Bella's water broke she would need to have a C section immediately or the baby would become increasingly violent. The C section will need a vampire capable of control to bite through the amniotic sac since the sac is going to be as durable as vampire skin. Bella will also need to be able to withstand the pain since there won't be enough time for her to receive pain killers beforehand. Everyone there had grim looks as they understood what it would be like. Bella would be in immense pain while the baby would be in a panic and lashing out. The only vampires that would be able to perform the procedure would be Carlisle, Edward, or myself since anyone else would go into a feeding frenzy from the taste of Bella's blood.
"Do you think that you could possibly perform the C section Alex?" Carlisle asked while everyone else looked at him in confusion.
"I can. I said slowly. But if I do it I will need someone there to help move Bella to the room since if I use my speed like you are hoping I will it would cause wherever I touch on her to disintegrate. Human flesh is not capable of withstanding those kinds of speeds and with how frail she will get by then it won't be pretty. I also won't be able to keep from rushing when Bella's life is in danger like that. I would also need to have someone around who isn't affected by her blood since they will need to handle the baby and clean it off so that everyone else doesn't enter into a frenzy."
"The best case scenario is that I will have one to two people helping me while everyone else leaves the area while I am in the middle of the procedure. Maybe have them patrol for any dangers or something until I'm finished."
"By the way." I said after pausing and looking at Bella and Edward. "You do realize that you will need to change Bella immediately after the procedure or she will bleed out and die."
"What?" Edward, Bella, and Carlisle said in shock.
"You didn't think that a human could survive for very long after being cut open and having their organs kicked around by a hybrid in a panic did you. Bella will have fatal levels of damage done to her insides and will have already low amounts of blood in her system due to the baby feeding on her to grow. So you will have very little time to inject Bella with venom to start the change before her heart stops beating and things get much more difficult for everyone."
"I'm okay with that." Bella said in a weak voice. "I already came to terms with turning into a vampire a long time ago, and now that I have a child on the way I definitely want to be there to see them grow up."
"That's the spirit Bella." I cheered her on. "Have you guys decided how the change will go. Is it going to be with a bite or with an injection. Whose venom will be used and are they going to do it themselves or have me do it for them after the procedure."
"It will be injected with a syringe and it will be my venom. I will be there to inject her myself." Edward said while gripping Bella's hand.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Bella said with a smile.
"Okay, so it is time for a very serious decision." I told them with a very serious tone of voice and face.
"What, what's wrong?" Edward asked with some slight irritation and worry.
"I think that the names Alexander and Alexis is good names for a baby."
"Alex, don't scare us like that." Bella scolded me with a laugh.
"What, just think of Alexander the great or the other greats out there. It has history." I continued trying to sell them on my naming choice.
Edward and Carlisle shared a look before going behind me and picking me up off the chair.
"Wait, what are you guys doing?" I said in pretend shock while Bella just covered her mouth to try and hide the smile she had.
They took me to an open window and threw me outside while laughter rang out around the house.
"You guys just don't know how awesome it would be to be named after me." I yelled at the house which caused even more laughter. I also chuckled before going to find Tanya.
I found her with Rose, Alice, and Esme. They seemed to be neck deep in pictures of baby rooms and baby clothing. I just turned back around and left to go find out what Emmet was up to. He always had something fun going on.
