Lyra was dreaming again, this time it wasn't about that dragon and wolf. She was in that void with nothing but blackness surrounding her. There was light in the distance, one she felt she had to follow. Her legs carried her through the dark, her eyes focused on the light. As she got closer, she saw it was a lit campfire, but what surprised her was what laid in the middle of the flames. It was a dragon egg. She never saw one before, but she could tell because of the scale-like textures on its surface. She did not know why she was drawn to this egg, but she felt the need to protect it. She knelt before the fire, mesmerized by how the fire's light reflected off the egg's surface. Her hand reached out and rested its palm against the scales. She expected her hand to burn from the fire, but instead, there was a pleasant warmth coming from the egg. All of a sudden, a crack appeared. She was so startled by the sound that she quickly withdrew her hand. More cracks appeared, and a sound came from inside. An eggshell fell away, and her eyes widened when she saw what appeared between the gaps. It was a human baby's hand, and the cries coming from inside grew louder. Lyra wasted no time as she hurriedly peeled off more of the egg. Once the last shell fell away, she scooped the baby into her arms and away from the fire. She looked down at the squirming infant and began to soothe it until it quieted down. It made small sounds as she cradled it in her arms before it looked up at her with violet eyes. She smiled as she let the child grab her finger with its little hand. She did not know why, but she felt instant love for the beautiful child who gave her a gummy smile.
Lyra's eyes opened as she suddenly awakened from sleep. Her heart ached when she no longer felt or saw the child she held in her arms, but that ache faded rather quickly when she registered a familiar warmth against her skin and around her bare back. Memories of the passionate love making she experienced with Aegon came back and she felt herself blush quite heavily. She took quiet steady breaths as she tried to calm herself down, her mind working out what happened before she went to sleep. Her having confusing dreams, Aegon knocking on her door, his kiss, their skins touching, riding the Dragon King, and then sleep. She gulped down her saliva as she recalled those scorching sweet kisses they gifted to each other's bodies. She felt her core become hot when she remembered a particular kiss below her waist that made her reach towards heaven. Yes, she truly felt as though she was flying.
She sighed softly as she nuzzled into his warmth, her arms resting over his chest and her fingertips touching one of the scars close to his shoulder. With feather-like touches, she traced the pattern to the mark, remembering the many scars she found on his body. Her scar tingled when she remembered how he kissed it so tenderly, as though he was trying to make it disappear from her body. That thought made her smile against his chest where she can clearly hear his heartbeat, its steady thumps soothed her and made her feel at peace. She ignored the ache in her lower region as she drifted off to sleep again. She gave a part of herself, yet at the same time, felt truly whole.
As the sun peaked over the sea's horizon, the Dragon King's violet eyes opened to the most beautiful sight in the known world. Curled up against him with her leg draped over one of his, her arm across his chest and her head nestled on his shoulder was Lyra sleeping peacefully without a care in the world. Her eyes were closed, and her breath was even as she slept on top of him. Aegon smiled as he observed her content expression as memories of last night surged forward. What he experienced last night, and what he feels now, was something beyond what he ever hoped for... Love. Not lust...Maybe a little...Okay fine a lot. But the pure unconditional love he feels is far more superior than lust alone.
Lyra shifted in her sleep, her arm across his chest curled itself closer to her chest, revealing just the edge of her scar. Curiosity and anger welled up inside him at the sight of that scar, if they still live, he'll make them pay personally.
Lyra's groan alerted him to the scrunched-up eye lids before they fluttered open to reveal her clouded eyes. She blinked for a few seconds before her hand smoothed over his chest where his heart resides.
"Egg." Lyra whispered with a sigh of contentment, not finding the strength or will power to move her body. It was too tired and satisfied for her to care.
Aegon smiled as he drew patterns on her shoulder blade where more of her battle scars were located. "Lyra."
Lyra rolled her shoulders to rid the aches and sores from last night's activities. "It's morning, isn't it?"
"It is." Aegon confirmed as he glanced out the window where the suns light shone through the clouds and hit the water.
"Do you have to go soon?" Lyra asked, unsure how to proceed in this kind of situation. If he has to leave, she won't stop him. But personally, she wasn't ready for him to leave just yet.
"Do you want me to?" Aegon asked, catching a hint of sadness in her eyes.
Lyra shook her head and held him tighter, "MmMm."
Aegon smiled at her child-like response. "Then I won't."
Lyra smiled in relief as she breathed in his masculine scent. They laid there enjoying each other's warmth and caresses, not a single word passed between them until Lyra spoke, "Hey Egg, what does this mean for us?"
"What do you mean?" Aegon asked confused by the sudden question.
"Is this a one-time only thing?" Lyra asked in wonder. "This is the first time I've done this and I'm not sure where to go from here."
Aegon caressed her cheekbone with a soft smile on his face. "What do you feel right now?"
Lyra swallowed as she searched for the right words to describe what she's feeling. She took a deep shuddering breath then exhaled; tears of joy swam in her eyes. "Alive." She breathed out a small laugh, "For the first time since...forever, I feel alive again." She gulped down her saliva, "I've been fighting to survive for so long... I forgot how it truly felt. "
Aegon's smiled tenderly as he held her closely. "I understand how you're feeling. All these battles, we hardly take time to remember that we are still living beings."
Lyra hummed in agreement as she basked in his warmth. "You're so warm, so full of life."
"That's because you're with me." Aegon said, drawing circles on her back. He watched the gentle rise and fall of her body as she breathed steadily against him, her very essence filled him with pure happiness and belonging.
"Lyra, will you marry me?"
Lyra picked her head up to stare at him with surprise. "What?"
"Once we're done with the dead, will you be my wife?" Aegon asked again, cupping her cheek as he stared into her clouded gaze.
"But Cersei-"
"Hear me out." Aegon began, "You said you will keep your Northern forces out of our conflict after the dead are defeated as long as Cersei sends her troops to lend us aide. You can still hold to that agreement even as my wife. You don't have to fight my war for the Iron Throne."
Lyra let out an incredulous laugh, "Where did this come from?"
Aegon took her hand and placed on his chest right where his heartbeat. "Here." Lyra was silent as she was memorized by the steady thumps beneath her palms, such a feeling gave her a sense of peace.
"I don't know why, but something changed the moment you set foot on Dragonstone." Aegon began as he stroked the back of her knuckles with his thumb. "I haven't felt like this since I lost my wife. I thought I'd never feel love again, but then you came, and you changed everything."
Lyra's eyes widened, "'Love?'" The word sounded foreign to her, the four letters that created such an idea. "You love me?"
Aegon smiled, "Yes, I love you Lyra Snow. From the moment you stepped into the throne room, I knew I'd love you." He unashamedly admitted, finally free from the denial he kept telling himself.
Lyra's clouded gaze shone with tears then spilled forth as newfound joy filled her entire. "I love you too." She said as a tearful smile lit up her face. "I never hoped for such a thing...I didn't believe myself worthy of it." She sniffled, "You're right, something has changed in us. I was ready to die in battle never knowing or feeling love. But now...now I want keep living."
Aegon tucked her head under his chin as she cried happy tears. "I love you." He whispered over and over again, giving her kisses until her tears were gone.
"Marry me?" Aegon asked again, wanting more than ever to have her as his wife.
Lyra, after a moment of contemplation, finally answered. "Yes."
Joy filled him at her answer before he pulled her into a loving kiss which melted straight into a passionate one. What followed soon after was a series of sensual touches, whispered words of love, and seductive moans.
Lyra panted after yet another round of love making. "We should...really...get up." She said with a tired smile as sweat coated their skins.
"Why?" Aegon asked, giving her shoulder a kiss.
"If we don't, we'll never be able to leave this room." Lyra said, smiling at where she knew her lover to be.
"I'm okay with that." Aegon said with a mischievous smile she knew he had as she giggled at him. This was a side of the Dragon King no one knew about. Turns out he's quite insatiable, but recently, they both discovered, so was she.
Lyra sighed contently as he trailed kisses from her shoulder to her neck, then paused above where her scar was located. She smiled sadly as he traced the edges with his fingers. He was curious about how she got this horrific scar, and while the memories brought her sadness, she knew she can't avoid the truth forever.
"It's okay to ask." Lyra said as she combed her fingers through his silken tresses.
Aegon raised his head to look her directly in the eyes. "Are you sure? You don't have to tell me if you're not ready."
Lyra smiled at his consideration as she cupped his face in her hands. "But I have to. You deserve to know the truth about me."
Aegon was silent as he stared at the horrendous scar that marred her pale flesh. "Who did this to you?" If they live, he will see to it that they pay personally.
Lyra frowned, though she was hesitant, she summoned all her courage to tell the truth. "I did this to me."
She felt her lover's heart quicken under her hand. She knew his face was filled with shock at what she just told him. "What? I don't understand. Why would-? How could-?" Aegon couldn't form the right words to form the question.
Lyra gently pushed him off her to sit up, which prompted him to do the same. She held the blanket to her chest, just below where her scar peeked out. Her fingers traced the edges of her mark as she stared at where Aegon sat cross legged.
"You know I masqueraded as a man to join the Night's Watch, right?" She began as she stared off into the distance, lost in a memory of who she once was.
"Yes."
"When I allowed the Wildlings to pass through the Wall, my brothers in the Night's Watch weren't happy." She sighed sadly, "A young boy, Olly, knew about my secret. I trusted him with it because I hoped to train him to be the next Lord Commander one day. But he harbored a hatred toward the Wildlings for killing his parents, so he never forgave me for letting them in." She paused as she remembered the day that ended her life. "He led me outside, he told me there was a Wildling who knew about my Uncle Benjen, the First Ranger being alive. But there was no Wildling, only a sign the read 'Traitor'." She swallowed her saliva. "When I turned around, all of them had that look in their eyes. I knew what they were going to do to me. I knew Olly told them my secret. But I wasn't going to let that happen." She shook her head. "I took the dragon glass dagger I had with me, and I plunged it into my heart." She heard Aegon gasp softly. "I didn't feel pain, when I hit the ground. I no longer felt the cold. All I remember at that moment was peace as I closed my eyes."
Aegon absorbed everything she said as shock filled his face. "How did you survive?"
Lyra closed her eyes and shook her head. "I didn't." She let out a shuddering breath. "Ser Davos asked the Red Woman to bring me back. And she did."
Aegon's eyes widened, "The Red Priestess Melisandre." At Lyra's surprised face, he explained, "She came to Dragonstone, she told me to summon you. You're telling she brought you back to life?"
Lyra bit her lip, "I don't know how. But from what Ser Davos could explain, the God she worships, this Lord of Light, she asked him to send me back." She shut her eyes as her hand left her scar to cover one of her eyes, "But it had an unintended side effect. A condition was made when he sent me back. The Lord of Light gave me something...I don't know how to explain, but the resurrection did something to my eyes."
Aegon held her face in his hands and look directly into her clouded gaze. "He blinded you."
Lyra swallowed, "Yes...and no."
Aegon shook his head in disbelief, "I don't understand. You can't see, yet...you took back Winterfell, you tracked and fought the dead, and you saved Viserion. How is any of that possible?"
Lyra knew now was the moment where she shared the most frightening secret about her. "When the Lord of Light sent me back, he took my sight and gave me something else." She took his hands from her face and held them in between hers. "It is easier if I show you." She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and tilted her head back. She breathed out long and slow then carefully opened her eyes again to reveal glowing silver-violet gaze. The world she saw revealed the majestic silver dragon whose form surrounded her.
Aegon's eyes widened at the sight before him. "Lyra, your eyes."
Lyra nodded slowly, "Yes, they're completely different. I can't see the world like you do. These eyes see the souls of everyone around me. Yours especially." Lyra breathed out a laugh, "It's a mighty silver dragon with violet eyes. I remember seeing it in the throne room when you got close to me, and again when we were in that cave."
"You can see my soul?" Aegon asked in amazement, never could he imagine such an ability could exist.
"Yes, it truly the most beautiful sight I ever had the privilege of seeing." Lyra said as her hands came up to caress the dragon's face. "One I am grateful to see every day."
"Then, this sight of yours has helped you win these battles? Is that also how you knew about Cersei's pregnancy?" He asked, remembering the chocked look on Cersei's face when Lyra announced the woman's unborn child.
Lyra gave him a sad smile, "That's right. I also caught sight of Cersei's soul. A golden lion bathed in the sickly green flames of madness. The only light I saw within her abdomen was her unborn child. It was truly terrifying. I used this sight to fight House Bolton, to find the Army of the Dead, and to save Viserion." She sighed through her nose. "There's so much to tell you about this gift."
"I'm listening." Aegon said as he held her hand in his, stroking the battle-hardened skin with his thumb.
Lyra told him the entire story of her inner sight, the good, the bad, the beautiful and the horrifying things she saw with them. From the moment it activated to right now. Aegon listened with undivided attention as she described the souls of her enemies, allies, undead, and his dragons. His heart almost broke when she recounted what happened when she fell into the frozen lake to rescue Viserion from the Night King, how very close to death they were. She even described her other abilities as a Greenseer, someone who can see the future, have prophetic dreams, and how she can warg into Ghost to have an extra set of eyes. She had a soft smile when she told him about the legends behind her powers, how her ancestors, the First Men, harnessed these powers long before there were Houses to guide and protect their people.
Aegon was entranced by her stories and the history of her people, how vaguely similar they were to his Valyrian ancestors, how they too had prophetic dreamers who foretold the Doom that would befall their city. He always loved learning about the history of Westeros, the Houses, and the First Men, even the legends and myths. He in turn told her about his time in Essos, from the fighting pits, to freeing slaves. She listened, entranced by his voice as he described each city he visited.
A knock on the door pulled them out of their little world. "Your Grace, it is morning so it's time to break our fast." Ser Davos' voice informed them from the other side of the door.
"Okay, I'll be right there." Lyra said as she threw the covers off to search for her clothes, but thankfully Aegon found them as he methodically dressed her.
"Good. Oh, before I forget, King Aegon, Tyrion wants to talk to you about something important." Ser Davos added then walked away.
Lyra paused as her eyes widened, "How did he know?"
Aegon chuckled through his nose and grinned, "Well, we weren't exactly subtle last night, or this morning." Lyra blushed a bit, remembering how vocal she was.
Aegon took her hand and helped her out of bed, catching her when she stumbled from the aches in her muscles. "Are you okay?" Aegon asked, worried that he may have been too rough on her.
Lyra laughed as she tried to stand, wincing slightly, but was able to tolerate the pain. "I'm okay. It was my first time, so I expected to be sore." She said, reassuring him as he led her to the door, keeping his arms around her slightly as she held her hand out to find the doorknob.
"Will you be joining us after you talk to Tyrion?" She asked when they stepped out into the hallway.
"Wouldn't miss it. Are you sure you can find your way to the dining hall?" Aegon couldn't help but ask.
"I'll find it, I'll just follow my nose." Lyra said with a light smirk, one Aegon returned before he gave her a chaste kiss. "I'll see you there."
Lyra walked away with her hand on the walls as she followed the smell of breakfast while Aegon walked away to find his Hand. He found the dwarf in his quarters where he was drinking wine, which was hardly surprising.
"Your Grace, how wonderful to see you, did you have a pleasant night?" Tyrion asked, giving him a look.
"Don't start." Aegon said as he closed the door behind him then sat down in the chair across from Tyrion.
"I'm not judging, she is a lovely woman after all. Figured it was only a matter of time before you made your move." Tyrion said, remembered how he saw Aegon come to Lyra's door in the middle of the night.
Aegon smirked, "If you're gonna lecture me about bedding an unmarried woman, you have no room to talk."
Tyrion gulped down a swig of wine. "It's not about that. And I'm the last person to ever lecture you about promiscuity. I'm quite famous for it." He set down his goblet on the table.
"Then why did you call me here?" Aegon asked, not in the mood for games after having the best night in his existence.
Tyrion sighed, feeling he has to broach this subject if he wants to keep the Dragon King alive. "Your Grace, we are in the middle of war, and we're about to fight thousands of dead men to save the Seven Kingdoms and the world. We all look to you for leadership because we believe in you for the impossible things you can make happen. But in order for us to have the best outcome, you need to have a clear head to think things through."
"I'm well aware of that Tyrion." Aegon stated as he leaned his head in his hand.
"Are you?" Tyrion raised an eyebrow, "Tell me Your Grace, do you know why Robb Stark lost the War of the Five Kings?"
"He was betrayed by the Freys at the Red Wedding." Aegon answered, knowing the story of the previous King of the North.
Tyrion shook his head, "No. He fell in love with a Volantene healer and married her. But he was already promised to marry one of Walder Frey's daughters. By breaking an oath for love, he cost the North their justice and victory against my family. Not only that, but Sansa suffered greatly because of his failure to keep his promise. He followed his heart rather than his head." He sighed as he remembered all the pain and heartache his wife endured from that loss. "I know you love Lyra Snow, you're not very good at hiding it."
"Was it really that obvious?" Aegon asked, though honestly, he didn't care if the whole world knew.
"I'm just saying, you need to be more careful with your feelings towards her." Tyrion warned, "Love does not win wars, Robert Baratheon, Robb Stark, Rhaegar Targaryan and my father who has proven that many times."
Aegon clenched his teeth at the mention of his older brother. "I'm not gonna end up like any of them, Rhaegar especially."
Tyrion stated, "He himself fell for a Stark maiden which led to a war. One decision was all it took to drag Seven Kingdoms into war. Now look where we are."
"Why are we even talking about this? Lyra is the perfect choice, you said it yourself." Aegon stated, remembering all those conversations they had regarding the White Wolf and how beneficial their marriage would be.
"As a political union, yes. There are no feelings attached, only mutual understanding." Tyrion leaned forward, "But if you marry her for love, any decision you make involving her will affect the country and its people."
"Enough, this conversation is over." Aegon said as he stood up. "While I do appreciate your concern, it is not your place to tell me not to love my betrothed."
Tyrion's eyes widened, "But I thought she-"
"I proposed again this morning, we worked it out, and she said yes. Once the dead are destroyed, she will be my wife. She'll remain in the North as promised while I dethrone Cersei." Aegon said as he turned to leave.
"What if you have to make a choice between love and duty? Which would you choose should that moment come, the Iron Throne, or Lyra Snow?" Tyrion's words made Aegon pause for a long time. He didn't know how to answer that, so he let that question hang in the air as he left the room.
