On Bella's 18th birthday, instead of a paper cut, a switch is about to make Forks even weirder.
How will Bella cope with suddenly being a 104-year-old mind-reading vampire in love with her singer? And how will Edward cope with being a human in love with a vampire?

Chapter 11

"I really wish we could take this day and just talk to figure all of this out, but we're expected at school," Bella said, and Edward couldn't hold in his groan.

"Damn, I'm actually gonna have to listen to the teachers today, aren't I?"

Bella failed at holding in her smile. "Unfortunately, yes. It's the downside of being a non-mind-reading human."

He narrowed his eyes at her, knowing she was having fun at his expense. "You're loving this."

She held up her hand and pinched her index finger and thumb together, leaving a tiny amount of air between them. "Just a little bit."

Edward clicked his tongue in annoyance and rolled his eyes, but he couldn't deny her the amusement. It was an absurd situation they were in, and it was only natural she'd revel in all of the new experiences as a vampire without the burden of being a newborn, but he would keep a close eye and wait for the other shoe to drop.

He was certain the glory of immortality would quickly fade in her eyes. She had yet to truly dig through the hole filled with a century-worth of memories that had made him the cynic he was.

"Do you feel more in control now?" he asked to change the subject.

"I do, actually," she said and tested walking closer again. "That little slip was me, but this body, in this life, knows what it has to do." She slowly reached out until her hand could settle on his chest, over his beating heart. "Wow," she breathed. "That's something I never thought I'd get to feel. You're so warm and soft."

Bella was awed, but his brows knitted together as the iciness of her hand seeped through his thin t-shirt.

"If this is what you feel whenever I touch you … when I kiss you … how aren't you repulsed by it?" he asked, and her expression fell, but she didn't remove her hand.

"Are you repulsed by my touch right now?"

He shook his head. "No. I love your touch. No matter what it feels like."

"Then why is it so hard for you to accept that I might feel the exact same thing? Even when you get to experience it for yourself?"

A/N:

Don't worry, Edward's self-loathing will dissipate over time!
