As much as Bella and Edward love each other, they can't possibly understand what the other's life is like.
On Bella's 18th birthday, instead of a paper cut, a switch is about to make Forks even weirder.
How will Bella cope with suddenly being a 104-year-old mind-reading vampire in love with her singer? And how will Edward cope with being a human in love with a vampire?

Chapter 13

"Are your memories of this life coming to you slowly as well?" Edward asked as he, with visible discomfort, settled into the passenger seat while Bella slid in behind the wheel of the Volvo he still recognized as his own.

"The first five minutes were confusing, but I remember it all now," she said and quickly pulled out of the driveway and drove toward school. Edward felt a weightless surge shoot through his stomach with the sudden movement.

"Whoa!" he exclaimed involuntarily and reached up to grab the handle on the ceiling.

Bella snickered. "Am I going too fast for you?" she asked and eased her foot off the gas. "How about I slow down to eighty? What was it you said to me when you drove me home from Port Angeles? You hated something. What was it?"

Edward gritted his teeth in annoyance. "Wow, you are hilarious," he said, but he knew she was just making him eat up his own words, so it wasn't as if he didn't deserve it. "A real comedian."

"Thank you," she said, grinning. "I'm considering a career in standup."

He changed the subject. "Did you meet anyone at the house before you came to me?"

"I briefly met Alice."

"And how was she? Did she seem … normal to you?"

Bella nodded. "Yeah, she seemed like herself." She pursed her lips as she thought of something.

"What is it?" he asked, still able to read her even though she was the mind-reader in this universe.

"I'm just going through my memories of everyone else. It's mostly the same, except Rosalie doesn't seem as hostile toward you as she is with me. I wonder why that is. It should be the same situation, after all."

Edward grimaced because he had promised Rosalie he wouldn't tell anyone about her most vain of thoughts, but he didn't want to lie to Bella either. Not this time. "It's because you wanting human me doesn't reflect back on her," he said quietly.

"What?"

What, indeed!

I've realized, as I write this, that there are so many details in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn that I can't use (in the context of their memories) because it hasn't happened yet. Might try to find a way to include them anyway. Perhaps a little Victoria moment while Bella is the vamp? I don't know yet, I'm just speculating :P

I know it's an evil place to end for the weekend, but you'll have to survive until Monday! :-* xx
