Lord Waters was a seasoned seaman and he was impressed by Desmond's knowledge of the seas. Together they chartered a ship called the Silver Wind and sailed off to Meereen to see the great city. They spent days traveling up the coast before they reached the Dothraki Sea. The journey was long and arduous, but they finally reached the bay where Meereen sat.
Meereen was unlike anything Desmond had ever seen before. The massive pyramids were taller than any building in King's Landing, and covered in gold. The streets were thronged with people and the smells of spices and incense hung thick in the air. The city was as bustling as Westeros itself, with no end to its buildings or markets or wonders.
They were greeted by a host of warriors dressed in black silk and golden armor led by an . As a sign of good faith, Lord Desmond gave a gift of ivory and gold. When asked what it was, Lord Desmond replied that it was a gift from the Ironsmith Company and Lord Davos Seaworth, a token of their friendship. The warriors bowed low and then escorted them to a magnificent palace.
Lord Desmond was taken to meet the queen.
"Your Grace," said Lord Waters, "the Ironsmith Company sends greetings."
"We will drink to your health," Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons and Queen of Meereen declared. "It is a great pleasure to meet you, Lord Waters."
She wore a dress of sapphire blue velvet, lined with white silk, and embroidered with pearls and moonstones. Her fingers were ringed with rubies, and she wore a necklace of gold and jewels worth as much as Lord Waters's whole fleet.
"Lord Stannis, rightful heir to Westeros, sends his regards." says Lord Desmond.
"I am the rightful heir to Westeros, Lord Ironsmith." said Daenerys. "This is my claim. This is my city. You will treat me with respect, if you wish to keep your heads."
Lord Waters looked at Desmond with concern. "Your grace, he means no disrespect. He's here to offer an alliance with Lord Stannis. We have plans in place to take the North and If we combine our strength..."
"Oh, I know what he wants," said Daenerys. "And no doubt you think you can make use of my dragons against the Lannisters. But I'm afraid that's impossible. My dragons are mine, and I'm taking them back to Westeros."
"You're the queen of Meereen. You could be queen of all of Easteros. We can help with that." Lord Desmond protested. "There's no need to..."
"No need? There is every need! I want to take Westeros for myself!"
"But, Your Grace," Lord Waters began, "we-"
"My dragons are not yours to command. They belong to me. Now leave me. I must prepare for the wars to come."
Lord Desmond looked at Lord Waters. He seemed angry. "We are not finished yet," he said.
Lord Waters looked at Desmond. "The queen means to show us the true meaning of hospitality." he said. "If you don't depart this instant, she'll be insulted."
"Very well," said Lord Desmond. He signaled his captains and they stormed out of the palace.
"Lord Minister Daemon," says Daenerys "I do not forget my debt to you, but it seems you'll have to make a choice soon. Which will it be, Lord Waters? The North or the East?"
