Robert got a notification on his phone, it was a text from Rosamund: You remember that woman you were admiring at brunch on Sunday? I know who she is, she is the daughter of Isidore Levinson, you know from that dry goods company?
He dialed her number because he needed to know more. "Ros" he started the moment she picked up her phone, " How do you know this?"
"Well, I went back into the hotel on Sunday, and I asked the receptionist about her"
"You did what? You went back in, to get your purse?"
"My dear brother, I needed an excuse to go back in without you. I know mama, would want to see you together with Susan, but I saw your face on Sunday, and I think you need to meet this woman, who by the way is Cora, Cora Levinson. Good luck and keep me posted"
Robert opened the search bar on his laptop and typed in: Cora Levinson. The first link was directly to her father's company, he found out Cora was the secretary of Harold Levinson, according to the information on the website, Harold took over the company after Isidore's dead. There was a phone number, and without thinking he dialed the number. After a few rings the phone was answered.
"Levinson and son, this is Cora speaking how can I help you." Her voice was calm and professional, Robert took a deep breath and said: "Hello, this is Robert Crawley from Abbey Advertisements, is this the office of Harold Levinson?" He didn't know what else to say, his brain was working on full speed to make up a reason why he was calling.
"Good afternoon Mr. Crawley, you are connected to his office, do you want to make an appointment?" Cora replied.
Robert was so glad Cora suggested that so he could pretend that, that was the reason he phoned: "Indeed, I hoped we could make a business arrangement, and would like to talk with Mr. Levinson about it."
"You can come in around 16.00 o'clock today, there is still room in his agenda, do you want me to book that time for you sir?"
Robert agreed about the time, and hung up the phone, his breath was shaking, and he was sweating all over, he had to go over there in just three hours, he needed to speak with Rosamund as soon as possible, he couldn't arrive there without a plan, he would look like a fool.
He hurried down to the floor she was working on, and rushed into her office. "Ros, you need to help me, I have a meeting at 16.00 o'clock with Harold Levinson and we need to come up with something"
Violet's voice came out of nowhere: "Why are you suddenly going to 'Levinson and Son', we aren't representing that company?"
"No, mama that's correct, we are not representing them yet, but Rosamund and I had a talk about that last Sunday, and maybe we can work with them" Robert looked at Rosamund and hoped she would back him up.
Violet looked at Rosamund and back to Robert. She had a disapproving look on her face. "Robert don't forget about the dinner tonight, I invited Susan over and you must be there! She will be at my place at 18.00 o'clock. Rosamund you and Marmaduke can come too, I will let the staff know you will dine with us." and she walked out of Rosamund's office.
"Thank you Robert, now I have to tell Marmaduke we have to go to mama's, why didn't you look before you started speaking. But ok, I understand you need something to present to Mr. Levinson? What did you have in mind?"
Robert and Rosamund took about an hour to arrange their material, so Robert could go prepared to the meeting. Robert wanted to leave the office, but Rosamund stopped him: "Change your clothes, you can't go in and impress Cora with that jumper, and my dear brother good luck, I will see you tonight"
Cora was preparing the meeting room for Harold and Mr. Crawley. Harold had been annoyed she filled the opening in his agenda, he had other plans, but now he had to rearrange. Cora had argued that he needed to put that in the agenda too, an open slot meant, he was available.
She was still setting up when there was a light knock on the door. Cora turned around and almost lost her balance, that man she saw during Sunday brunch was standing in the doorway. He was dressed in a blue suit, with a light blue shirt, which made his blue eyes even more blue.
She cleared her throat: "Good afternoon, you must be Mr. Crawley, I am Cora." She put out her hand to shake his, his hand was strong and soft at the same time "Welcome, I will tell Mr. Levinson you arrived, please take a seat. She turned around and walked over to Harold's office. "Your four o'clock arrived"
She went back to the front office and tried to focus on her work, but she kept trying to look in the meeting room. About an hour later she went in to check if they needed something, but Mr. Crawley was already getting up and started to leave, he shook Harold's hand and said: "We will see each other next week to discuss how we are going to do this", on his way out he took Cora's hand, she felt he left something in it.
Harold returned to his office and Cora had the time to look at the little note. There was written: Would love to get to know you, are you in for a drink? Robert. He had left his phone number. Cora felt like she was dreaming, had he really just invited her on a date?
Robert arrived just in time for the dinner with his mother, Rosamund, Marmaduke and Susan. He was talking to Susan, but his mind was somewhere else, would Cora call him? Later that evening, Susan finally left and he got in a taxi to go home, as soon as he was around the corner, he opened his phone, and there was a text from an unknown number: When and where would you like to go? Cora.
